the starship Voyager-intrepid class, registry NCC 74656. was launched in the year 2371, on stardate 48308.
it was one of the first starship designs to feature a new type of engine with the liftable nacelles. the new design made traveling at warp speed very "environmentally friendly", and as a result, Voyager was able to exceed the warp 5 speed limit that was currently in effect due to the minimal damage it did to subspace.
the intrepid class also introduced the "bio-neural gel packs". something that would replace all isolinear circuitry in future starships. the purpose of the gel packs was to allow the ship to have more of a seamless communication with itself, and the crew, resulting in much more efficient, and faster operations and commands.
the intrepid class starship was primarily designed for exploration purposes. but if faced with a tactical situation, was more than capable of defending itself. being highly manoeuvrable, employing powerful phaser arrays, 5 photon torpedo bays, with a compliment of 32 torpedoes. the intrepid class was capable of going up against the majority of starships that other races could throw at it at the time.
in 2378, the USS Voyager was retrofitted with an advanced armor plating from the future designed to withstand extreme attack from the Borg. the ship could not go to warp while using the armor, but during the time the armor plating was in effect, the ship was nigh-invulnerable.
also at the same time, the ship employed a series of "transphasic torpedoes", from the future, which could cut through borg shields and destroy cubes with only a few volleys.
this technology was desgined by Captain Janeway and her crew by necessity from frequent Borg attacks on Voyager.
shortly after the launch of the USS Voyager, it was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by an alienn called the caretaker. stranded 75.000 lightyears from home.
Voyager was declared by Starfleet officially lost in 2374. however, Voyager was able to make brief contact with Starfleet and the Federation in 2375. around the end of 2378, Voyager returned home to Earth after assistance from a future Captain Janeway, and a borg transwarp hub.
shortly after returning home, the ship was placed in permanent dock at Earth and turned into a museum. while Captain Janeway was promoted to Admiral, for her courage, perseverance, and the promise she made to her crew, that she would get Voyager home, no matter what...
