Chapter 1: Birth
It was a warm summer’s eve when the child was born. In his birthplace, the old ways were very much alive, and it was to be half a year before he was named. On the night before the Naming ceremony, though, the village was engulfed in flames. Bandits had come, raiding and killing every man, woman, and child in the village. Just before his family’s demise, they attempted to hide him, but it was in vain. The bandits found him, and brought him before their leader. Fate still smiled on the boy, however. He was saved at the last minute before the leader struck the fatal blow thanks to a thrown dagger from an unseen figure…
Amidst the chaos, and unbeknownst to all, a group of the Knights of the Dark Glyphs had been passing by the village when it was attacked, and had come to save its inhabitants. They were too late. Everyone except the boy was dead. Unbeknownst to the boy, they began to converse amongst themselves…
“Let’s head back. The village is completely gone.” Said the future Grandmaster of the Order, Lucian Warheit.
“Wait a moment. There may be survivors. The least we can do is look.” Replied Jeanne D’Luce, the mother of Siela.
“Fine. Victor! Siela! Go look for survivors. Bring any you find back here.” Barked Lucian at the two younglings behind him.
“O-Of course, Sir!” Victor Delacroix replied, snapping a sharp salute at his Knight that he was squiring.
“As you wish, Sir Warheit.” Siela commented, curtsying delicately before running off…
The pair had searched nearly the entire village, finding nothing but death, until the sound of a crying infant reached their ears. They ran to find the source of it, soon finding the boy sitting near the dead Bandit leader. Gently, Siela picked up the infant, and the two youths walked back to Lucian and Jeanne. Lucian decided to give the boy a name, and decided that it would be “Sieg.” With the newly-christened Sieg, the Knights rode back to the Citadel, where Sieg was to begin his new life. The life that would eventually touch so many others…
