Whiteclaw rolled her eyes and continued devouring the carcass, soon breaking off one of the ribs, which she dropped on Rutilas' foot.

Yes, this was Rutilas when he wasn't thinking. To his credit, he didn't ask her again... not verbally anyway, but it was clear what he wanted...

This time, Whiteclaw turned and walked away a few paces and sat down facing the way Slasher went off.

Rutilas got up and walked away himself... "I'm glad she didn't kick me there..." he thought to himself his rational mind began to reassert itself as her scent faded from the air around him. "Now to get some rest..." he added mentally.

He found a large, flat rock where he could see his mate and his son. Lying down on his side, he stretched out and yawned, then feel into a surprisingly deep sleep surprisingly quickly.

Whiteclaw glanced backwards, satisfied that Rutilas was unable to bother her. She stood up and went to observe Slasher and his friends.

Rutilas slept uneasily. Her pheremones no longer reached his snout in the same intensity, but every now and then the wind would pick up and blow some right into his nose. When this happened, the reaction was instantaneous; he thrashed about in his sleep, no doubt dreaming about his mate and him having some... intimate time. It wasn't a very good rest, as it kept being punctuated by a rise and fall in his hormones and heartbeat... still, he was out of his mate's business... so to speak...

Rutilas eventually woke after a few hours had passed. The sun was still out, though...

"I'll be fine. We should get some food. And thanks for not... taking advantage of the situation earlier..." he was grateful she didn't kick him in the... well... he was just glad.

Rutilas proceeded to find himself some food... a young Spiketail with orange skin... a juvenile, not a hatchling.

Later that night, Rutilas decided to have a talk with his mate...

"Whiteclaw... I think... well... I know we have this talk a lot but... we need to talk. I'm not going to ask for anything... I just think we should... see if we can come to some sort of arrangement in which we are both... satisfied..." And Rutilas only knew one meaning of the term "satisfaction."

"I was asleep much of the day... weren't you watching him?" Rutilas asked, a bit nervous himself.

Whiteclaw pondered what had happened. "Well, they split up to play hide and seek. I knew they would find Slasher quickly, and I can trust him to be home before sunset." She paused to think.

"We should go out and find him... immediately!" Rutilas replied. After an hour of searching, he caught Slasher's scent...

"He's over this way!"

An hour later, they found him already asleep, curled up in some grass...

"Oh. There he is. He must have gotten tired and decided to take a nap, but didn't wake up during the day." Yes...Slasher was already copying his father's ways...

Rutilas leaned over and nuzzled the child. He was just as grateful as his mate... although he had a harder time showing it...
