"Be careful out there!" Allister Mackenzie, a college student, called to his pet cat Devil. It was a fine summer's day, and his pet was responsible enough to avoid dangerous situations.
Devil dashed his way across Allister's yard over to the next house over where his best friend, another young cat named Nana lived. "Nana! You out here?!" Devil called out, though to humans it just sounded like mews.
Across the street, an older cat named Addy watched from his owner's porch, resting a porch. "Youngsters.." she smiled to herself, feeling full after eating a mouse.

Nana was basking lazily on her back porch of her owner's house. It was such a lovely day, and being outside was better than being tormented by Max, the dog she lived with. Just as she was going to back to her nap, she heard a voice, "Nana! You out here!?" It was her best friend, Devil.
"Yep! I'm here!" Nana called out. She glanced back towards the door, then bounded across the yard to meet Devil.

"Hi!" Devil smiled, happy to see his friend. He gave Nana a little pat.
"That dumb Max still asleep?" he asked with a smirk, "If so, we could finally play together in peace..."

"Yep, he's asleep. Finally Maggie let me outside. With all my purring, it was hard for her to resist." Nana purred, "Anything new?"

"Not much," Devil replied, "Except Allister moved the Double Chocolate Chip to the top shelf, now I have even less of a chance of getting at it."
Addy then walked by, holding two mice by the tails. "Wanna snack?" she asked the kittens, knowing them since they've been around in the neighborhood.

"Hi Addy." Nana mewed. She then Looked at Devil, "You want any?"

"Of course," Devil grinned, licking his lips.
Well the cats of the neighborhood were not bad guys at all, they, because of instinct, loved the taste of mice!

"Cool," Nana said, grabbing a mouse. "Thank you Addy." She said through a mouthful of fur.

"Don't mention it kids," Addy replied to the younger cats. "Mice show up in my owner's house all the time. You think word would spread among them than the city's best mouser lives there..."
"For real," Devil agreed, happily chewing on the mouse.

"Your the best mouse catcher? Well, you know, mice are always so annoying. But they taste really good!" Nana mewed, licking the last peices of mouse off her lips.

"You know what I say," Addy smirked, "What mice like in taste they make up for in flavor."
Devil chuckled at that joke.

Nana chuckled too. "So, Addy, anything new happen?" She asked the old cat.

"Not much to me, but Sheila's concerned about what she saw on the news. Apparently there's some thefts going on not too far from here." Addy replied.

"Really?" Nana gasped, her mouth wide with excitment, "like what kind of thefts?"

"Whatever they can get their hands on, it seems," Addy replied, "Jewelry, software."
Devil gulped, the thought creeped him out.

"That sounds creepy." Nana shivered. "Where did you say it was happening again?"

"Not too far off," Addy replied to the kittens, "The news said the most recent case happened about 5 miles away."
"Could we talk about something else?" Devil asked.

"Yeah, it gives me the creeps too. So, your still trying to get that ice cream are you Devil?" Nana sighed, looking at him with wide eyes.

"yeah," Devil nodded with a grin. "Though I'm not sure if Allister's onto me."
"I have to get going, take care kids," Addy said, walking off.

"Bye Addy!" She called, watching the old cat walk away. Then she turned back to Devil, "I don't get how you like that stuff. It's too sweet. And why would he be onto you? Maggie lets me eat her fruit all I want. That is, if I get to it before Max does." Nana said.

"He sometimes finds my fur near the freezer," Devil said with a laugh. "I hate to see Max get what you like," he said to his friend.

Yeah, that dumb dog is alway's getting the good stuff. But sometimes Maggie gives me extra good watermelon, without the seeds too. Mmmm..." She sighed licking her lips when the thought of the sweet fruit in her mouth.

"Watermelon..." Devil grinned, being a fan of that fruit as well. "What yould you like to play, Nana?"

"I dunno. What do you wanna do? I'm up for anything." Nana smiled, hopping around eagerly.

"Tag?" Devil smirked, quickly tagging Nana with his paw and running off.

"Hey! No fair!" Nana laughed chasing after her friend.

"Can't catch me!" Devil smirked, running alongside the fence. Devil was good at accelerating on straight pathways.

"Don't bet on it!" Nana called back, since she was a little bit smaller than Devil, she was more agile and sped up to try to catch him, her efforts proved successfeul as she placed a paw on his shoulder and ran off laughing, "Told ya I'd catch you! Now try to catch me!" She cried playfully.

"You can count on that!" Devil snickered in reply, dashing back after his friend.

Nana yelped in suprise then took off again, dashing along the side of the fence.

"Ya sure Max isn't around?" Devil called as he caught up to the girl kitten.

"I'm pretty sure, the door was closed when I left-" suddenly she heard a sound, like a distant cracking. Maybe someone stepped on a twig or something? "What was that?"

"Ah crud," Devil frowned, not wanting to turn and see what made that noise.

"What, are you scared or something?" Nana mocked, but in truth, she was scared too. She hoped whatever made that noise wasn't dangerous.

"Is it Max?" Devil whispered.

"I don't know...could be." Nana whispered back "..do you wanna go see?"

"Sure," Devil replied with a gulp, the kitten beginning to slowly creep.

Nana began to follow, but she got the feeling she knew what made the sound. Just then she heard the sound again, and this time it sounded closer.

"What is it?" Devil whispered to Nana, not wanting to look.

"It's-" She was cut off by a large head that made her jump back a few feet. When she looked back, she saw a large dog rolling around laughing. "Max..." She muttered. She was right. (Thought this was a good time to bring Max into this.)

"Oh great," Devil frowned, hissing a bit.

"That was just too good! Seeing you jump like that! HAHAHA!!!!" Max said, rolling around, laughing his head off.
"That wasn't funny!" Nana hissed. "What are you doing here anyway? I thought the door was closed!" She questioned, arching her back.
"Well, Maggie let me outside, that's that." Max explained flatly, getting up and staring at the two kittens. "What are you doing anyway?"
"Nothing you'd be interested in. Come on Devil, let's go." She then turned around, leaving the dog behind.

"Yeah, let's," Devil nodded, following his friend off.
"Dogs...." Addy said to herself, watching from across the street.

Max shrugged and started walking back to his oqner's house. "Cats..." He grumbled to himself. "So annoying, but so fun to mess with." And with that, he dissapeared from sight.
Nana was grumbling to herself, when she noticed Devil had caught up with her. "I hate him. He's so annoying. And I thought he was asleep."

"Dogs are most fun when they're in food form," Devil joked.

"Yeah, that would make everything much easier." Nana laughed. "So, anything you wanna do?"

"Go take a walk," Devil suggested.

"Yeah, I need to cool down. But the question is, where should we walk to?" Nana asked.

"Just along the sidewalk," Devil suggested.

"Sounds good to me." Nana smiled, turning to the sidewalk.

"So, you hear anything from any of the other cats?" Devil asked his friend.

"Other cats? No, not really, but Maggie's been all...panicky for some reason. Something she heard on the television or something? What about you?" Nana answered, keeping a steady pace with Devil.

"well, I hear Mace has gotten into his owner's obsession with sci-fi stuff," Devil chuckled.

Nana laughed too, "Yeah, he sure is weird." She said, walking on.

"Tell me about it," Devil chuckled

As Nana walked alongside her chuckling friend, she heard a call. "What was that?" she asked.
