I don't have it yet and plus I don't think I'm going too. Thats just me personally since I don't see a use for it. Plus with the software also draining the batteries on the phones. It really sucks and for me since I do a lot of work on my phone it wouldn't be good.

However I have seen it in action a lot and I can say its cool for the most part. So for the people who want to play it all I can is "More Power To Ya".

Team Instinct, yeah!
And I might be a little addicted, too :lol I went on a run the other day just to hatch eggs :p
It actually isn't too hard on my phone battery, as long as I keep my screen brightness down. Plus I have unlimited data on my phone plan, so might as well put it to use :D

What's the coolest pokemon you've caught or evolved so far?

Thanks to all of you amerifa*s, the servers are overloaded and no one else can play it. :p  Guess us germans, europeans in general, will have to wait a couple more weeks until it's at least available here.

However, to everyone playing the game, be careful, will ya? I've already read about some teenage lowlifes using the app to lure people into a trap and perform an armed robbery. Hurray to guns in America, but despite the country and jokes aside, don't get too distracted by it. ;)

Update:
I have managed to get the android APK through a quick google search, so I can enjoy the game as well now. Really is addicting as all hell, though the battery drain certainly is ridiculous. Tested it out on my HTC One M7, and my battery basically went from 80 to 70% in a matter of minutes. But apart from that, I can understand where the hype comes from.

Ha, not completely surprised... the servers were terrible for us, too!  :lol I could only get on a couple of times over the past few days. They seem to be leveling out now though- they're only offline 20% of the time rather than 80%  :smile

I know, right? It's probably the most anticipated phone game in the history of phone games! If it were me, I would look at the number of people who own a smartphone... and just plan for that amount of volume during opening week. Especially since the app is free  :lol

As far as pictures go, I think we can post them. It would probably be smart not to post anything that gives away the location of your home or work or that sort of thing, though :yes

In my honest opinion, it is nothing but over hyped BS. why travel around just to catch monsters you can get in a video game for mush less effort and no micro transactions.

I tried it, and it is glitchy, and unreliable. The Idea of physically going somewhere in the real world just to catch an AR monster on a app that only works some times, is preposterous.

To be honest, I blame my phone on me not being able to play the game. :(

You see, I don't have some of the best plans available (and probably not that great of a company to work with) to be constantly connected to the network unless I'm at a wifi hotspot.  I know that if I had a better plan, I'd be able to work with this.

I know this is a good game.  I can see that.  My phone just doesn't have what I need to get the best experience.

Maybe one day I can go with my own phone plan and get something good with it.  Until then, I can't play this game while I'm on my parents' plan.  Sorry, everyone! :(petrie

Sorry you feel that way! For me the exploration, random nature of encounters, and team play aspect are big positive points of the game :smile True it's been super glitchy and the servers are unreliable, but it's already improved a lot in those areas since opening day.

Another thing I love is that if you do go out and walk around, the microtransactions become completely unnecessary. The only reason you would need to use them is if you want to play the game from home, or if you want to level faster than everyone else.

Sorry to hear it! I'm lucky enough to have a small-time provider here that offers unlimited data at very low rates, otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to play, either.

I use Cricket Wireless. They just got bought by AT&T, though, and I'm really hoping they don't jack up the rates tremendously :bang

I just want to say a warning for everyone. While Pokemon Go is getting people fresh air I will say it can get creepy at night. There were a ton of people at my apartment compex walking around looking for pokemon. However it was 2:00am and I have to say thats a little creepy.

So please everyone be careful when you are playing Pokemon Go and try not to go into areas you are not supposed to be in.

I've never been into Pokemon at all so it was clear from the minute I heard about this game that I wouldn't be playing it... ever. While the general idea is good (getting people to go outside for a change), it simply has way too much potential to become too addicting. I've literally just turned my back on an online game I've been playing everyday since two years because it really prevented me from doing other things. I fear it would be the same with Pokemon GO because if I do something, I wanna be good at it :p

It's a neat social game but I'm heartbroken that you can't level up PokÈmon by battling wild ones like you do in the Nintendo games. It also feels pretty pointless to have a PokÈmon game where you can't battle any PokÈmon in a traditional sense. Why can't I battle my friend's PokÈmon Gameboy style? Why did they reduce the battle mechanics to simply swiping to dodge

It's a gross simplification and it's lack of features that made the Nintendo PokÈmon games so engaging makes it little more than an excuse to go for a walk. That on its own is cool but it feels like such an epic dropping of the ball on what could have been a fricking AMAZING PokÈmon game. Instead it suffers from the same over Simplicity and pure grindynsss that we see all the time in mobile games these days. Sad times.  :(

A game for idiots who don't realzie they are being controlled by this game.   Why would a normal person go several km somewhere he wouldn't even go otherwise just to "catch a Pokemon" aka do few taps on his phone?  Stupid is not even a word to describe it.
Title: Pokemon GO
Post by: RockingScorpion on August 18, 2016, 09:24:23 AM
Guess I'm an idiot that is controlled by his phone then. Wow, didn't know that.

Aside from that aspect, I do play from time to time. Not going out just to play it, but when I'm outside I check if something is nearby every now and then.
The coolest experience I had so far was on a friday, the day before GalaCon Ludwigsburg happened. A lot of guys I knew were there, so we walked around a bit catching and discovering stuff together.

What's kind of a bummer is that I live in a somewhat small town, there are no gyms, just a few pokestops and you barely find new Pokemon. Still happens from time to time though.

Kinda rude there otter I also play every once in a while. I don't play much because I'm to darn lazy to go outside these days. And for what it is it's actually quite fun to play. Just to see if anything is available.

Post by: Ducky123 on August 18, 2016, 10:39:32 AM
Wouldn't call people who play it stupid but Jelly Otter does have a point. A good point. It's time that's wasted, kind of. Like I said in my original statement, its potential to become an addiction is simply too high and the game can control you easily. I know what that's like to be controlled by a game, forced to log in several times a day to be successful at it... just believe me  :yes

Post by: ADFan185 on August 18, 2016, 01:36:56 PM
No jelly doesn't have a good point Pokemon Go is getting a ton of people outside and they're getting lots of exercise with this game. And it's developing friendships a lot of friendships I've seen online. So it's a very good fun game that helps make friends on real life.

Post by: Ducky123 on August 18, 2016, 06:18:04 PM
Well, can't stop people from playing, everybody has to decide for themselves how much they let the game control them. ^^ If you do it like RS, no harm's done but hearing about people walking around in the middle of the night seeking pokemon just makes me facepalm, I can't help that :)

I've been loving Pokemon Go! I even wrote an article on it,  (http://spuf.org/2016/08/14/pokemon-go/) though I had to qualify that the game's a little unfair to higher-level players at the moment. Still, it's definitely worth trying out for the camera and GPS-integration, it's a big step forward in social gaming.

Still, anyone playing this game, even out of boredom, looks stupid from outside, put themselves in danger & provoke other people.   You're outside & walking - that's good, but you're still looking at the screen, missing a lot of stuff around & wasting your time doing something that's absolutely pointless - going somewhere just to tap on your phone & get a pride of "now I have it".  Laying on a sofa watching TV or playing a normal video game is same time wasting, but you're either enjoying it or chilling or getting new infos.   With Pokemon GO someone is forcing you to go somewhere without any valid reason.
How about this?   Imagine a new trendy thing in the world: would you go some random place shown on the map just to fart there & be proud you did it?  You must hurry cause the point will disappear & your fart won't be recorded if you didn't make on the spot in time.  Each time the mark on the map tells you need to appear there & fart louder than previously.  Your phone recorder would show if you succeeded your task.  I think it's same effect.   And you will also meet same autistic farters there too to become friends with & then say how this sort of game "changed your life for the better".   I laugh at all of you who became slaves of their phones.

I think I dislocated my eyeballs with how far back my eyes rolled at this.
Psh, moving on...

I haven't been able to play because I used all my Poke Balls and the nearest Pokestop is a 15 minute drive away. I can't drive because anxiety; I get mini panic attacks just driving passenger side. Plus, the latest updates have made it dang near impossible to catch low level Pokes. I had a Staryu slap my last 3 Poke Balls, the little bugger. I'm going to stockpile Poke Balls from the Pokestop until they can iron out the bugs. If I can get over my anxiety while driving, I can get my driver's license so I can drive my "stupid" butt to town and walk around becau-ALL GLORY TO THE POKEMON GO APP!!

As far as the game being boring, I'm just hoping it's getting some people interested in pokemon, and then they go on and play one of the main rpg games or something.

It looks like that's what's going on too, with the 3DS, and different Pokemon game's sales shot up last month, with really no new games or anything coming out. Don't see anything else those sales could have come from other than Pokemon Go.

I Have no interest in this app myself. I'll just go enjoy the rpg's, but I'm happy some people are getting into Pokemon through this at least.

I know... Raticate is pretty ugly, and the dichotomy only gets worse when you look at their Alola forms (http://www.pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-au/pokemon/alolan-rattata/). I'm definitely keeping my perfect Rattata unevolved, it's not like it would become a battle powerhouse or anything if I evolved it. Still can't believe my first perfect Pokemon happens to be my favorite species to boot!

I've only found one ditto, on the first day they became available. I've kind of "quit" playing right now though until school starts back up, as there isn't anything around where I live. I did find a 100% perfect Seadra in virginia, though! Building up some Horsea candies so I can evolve it when they release full Gen 2. I have a Venomoth (was a Venonat when first caught) that has at least 1 perfect IV; the only PokÈmon I found so far with good stats. The ones around here are usually in the middle-to-low stats wise. Unfortunately, I've run out of Poke balls and there isn't a Pokestop close enough to walk to. My only option is to buy coins for them, and that isn't happening. I guess I'll just be walking around to get candy for some of my PokÈmon.

Living in a huge city has its advantages, I suppose. I have about a dozen pokÈstops and three gyms all less than 10 minutes away from my house. :D

Reviving this topic because the Celebi quest part 2 requires me to add 3 new friends and I basically already added everyone I know who plays! So if you're still playing and want to add me, here's my friend code:
0890 8130 4666

See you there!

So... anybody been playing yet? If so, what team?
TEAM INSTINCT for me!  :lol
Just noticed this haha. Same goes for me. :smile

You have to add 3 friends, as in not have a total of 3 friends? (I haven't bothered to do a raid to complete part 1 since none have spawned that are convenient)

I'll put my friend code up later as well once I get to that part.

Also, looks like getting 3rd tier friendship gives 50,000 exp. Nice.

Added you Mumbling! I've been trying to find friends who don't live in the US because they send me eggs from other countries :D

Yeah Flathead, specifically 3 new friends. Couldve easily done this before when they introduced friends but now I'm kinda stuck.

You'll get that Dutch egg in no time LB&T ;)

Edit: ohh your buddy's name is adorable!

Haha thanks, I'm grinding out candies for Littleroot (https://imgur.com/a/CRkWD1M) so I can finish the "Evolve an Evolved grass type" research quest. Is that really a 98% Bagon? That thing's gonna be a beast

Ahhh I was wondering why you were walking with him while community day is coming up! Good idea. I decided to go for hoppips evolution as those are more common here.

And yeah it is! Got really lucky on an egg hatch and even though I had previously evolved a 80% or so bagon I figured it was more worth to try and evolve this one... so on to the candy grind now :P

Have you caught any 100%s yet? I've only got two, my pride and joy Rattata (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15116.msg442996#msg442996) I caught years ago, and the more useful one was a Slakoth (https://imgur.com/i36kIqm) that's now my highest-level Pokemon. Shame he's not actually very relevant in modern meta thanks to that useless fast attack...

I also have 2 100% Pokemon! A Stantler (https://i.imgur.com/EA1GCFO.jpg) from an egg, which is about as useful as your ratatta, and a Swinub (https://i.imgur.com/ORN4OrS.jpg) in the wild. I've leveled him up quite a bit and am hoping he will be meta relevant once mamoswine gets released with gen 4 :D

Edit: added links to images. Man that's a pain in the ass on mobile.

I’m positive that Mamoswine is gonna rock come Gen4. I really hope they grant free backpack space like they did for Gen III. There are so many Pokémon variants now D:

Yeah I hope so too! No kidding, not sure how they will handle it when they've added all 800+ Pokemon, especially for those with a living dex who also want to collect all the different forms.

Well that poses a problem. I only have 1 friend irl that plays the game still and I already added him haha.

Well I have the research quest for getting more friends now so here's my friend code: 1915 0732 8613 if anyone wants to add me and see my amazing mediocrity :p

So far the only Pokemon that I have with perfect IVs is a Hitmonlee. I have a few others that are close though.

Sure am! Get ready to see the same plaque monument thing over and over for your gifts (since it's the closest stop to my house) :lol

Just letting you guys know that I'm not being stingy on my gifts. I haven't played too much recently so I have no gifts to send. :lol

Can anyone explain this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/9d4o3v/what_happen_when_you_reach_100_rewards_stack/) to me? What’s a rewards stack? Why are people losing hundreds of Pokémon?
Title: Re: Pokemon GO
Post by: Mumbling on September 06, 2018, 03:53:22 PM
Hmmm. I think this comment explains it well:
Quote
When you complete a field research that rewards you a Pokémon encounter you can flee the encounter. The Pokémon from that reward will still be “stacked” in a tab above the other field research you are working on. You just tap it and start catch whatever mons you haven’t caught in the order you claimed the tasks. There used to be no limit but now you can only have 100 there.

So basically, you get a reward pokemon catch from a quest, but instead of catching it you run away.

Now I've had that happen only accidentally, and I always went back into the battle to catch the Pokemon, so I wasn't aware you could have multiple uncaught Pokemon there. Now I guess that limit got changed and people lost those Pokemon that they couldve caught otherwise.

Ah that makes sense. That comment hadn't been posted at the time I made that post, but that definitely clears it up. Thanks!

Just had a fun run-in with a kid playing Pokemon GO. When he found out  I'd been playing since July 2016 he asked me to trade him some of my older Pokemon since they'd automatically become Lucky. Well I certainly wasn't using them, so I gave him Blastoise, my starter, in exchange for a Magmar. Hopefully he puts it to more use than I ever did. Traded him a couple others as well. It's crazy how high-level these kids are, he was level 40 and had like two dozen of every Pokemon in the current meta.

Nice! And yeah, it's pretty clear most kids have too much time on their hands haha!

I just did the old Pokemon trades with my mom as well. She was really happy to receive some lucky Pokemon and I got some nice ones of her as well that I want to level up all the way. Sadly I'm at my limit of 10 guaranteed ones now, boo! :D

Ha! One of the 7k eggs I got from your gift, aabicus, finally resulted in a Tauros! I am so happy. This finally completes my Kanto dex! And I only had to encounter 3 Mr. Mime taunts before this finally happened :P yay!

I'm finally gonna hit Level 38! (https://i.imgur.com/rJHPqSl.png) This has been the dream literally from day 1, because it's where Pokemon cap out. As soon as this French dude sends me another gift and we pop Ultra Friends for 50K xp, I can finally have the world's greatest Rattata. (https://i.imgur.com/o8sfl9H.png) I'm legit not sure what I'm gonna do after this, it's been my driving force in this game.

Also, apologies to anyone who's noticed I haven't bee reciprocating gifts recently. Just moved to a new city and there's like nothing out here. It's super tough to get gifts now.

Sweet! I'm getting scary close to level 40, which is insane. Anyway, you could go for that? Pokedex completion maybe?

Love your Rattata's name :D

And no problem - I've noticed gifts have been a low priority for pretty much everyone on my friend list. Guess people play less in winter and they also don't care much for the contents of the gift anymore.

Congrats aabicus! I think I'm up to around level 32 now which is way higher then I'd ever thought I would get up to.
And Iris we're going to need to throw a celebration once you hit 40! Must be pretty exciting!

And no worries about the gifts, I've been in hibernation mode for the game for a while now. Can't be bothered to walk to the nearest stop when it's cold out so I mostly just log in inside my house to catch a couple pokemon every day haha.

Yeah, I'm glad the current event Is PvP-oriented, I can just fight my alt account 5 times and get a bunch of rare candy/dust every day. I don't want to leave the house until it warms up :P

Nice! :p I'm certainly not into it enough to have another account, but yeah it's been -20C to -30C over here for what feels like all of February so yeah. Getting a bit warmer this coming weekend though! Up to 0C by monday! Maybe you guys will start seeing gifts from me again  :PAli
