1988 Theatrical Release / This should be released on Blu-ray
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:39:04 AM »
You know what other animated franchise should have a Blu-ray/DVD re-release? An American Tail and Fievel Goes West! In 2011, it will be AAT's 25th anniversary, and FGW's 20th! Here's what the features could be:

An American Tail
Features:
-Full Screen (1.33:1) (Yep, no widescreen for this one, neither!)
-5.1 surround sound
-Isolated James Horner score
-"Somewhere Out There" music video featuring Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram
-Trailers
-Publicity gallery (for posters, merchandise, etc.)
-storyboards, art galleries, etc
-Games
(I don't believe there was a making of featurette or deleted scenes... If so, they should be included too)

Fievel Goes West
Features:
-Widescreen (1.85:1) (Yes, this one was actually filmed in widescreen! And it has yet to be released on DVD here in the U.S. I read it was in Australia)
-5.1 Surround Sound
-isolated James Horner score
-"Dreams To Dream" music video featuring Linda Ronstadt
-Trailers
-Publicity gallery
-Art and storboard gallery
-Games
-And if there was a making of featurette and deleted scenes, they should be included

Silver Screen / The Pebble and the Penguin
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:38:49 PM »
I, too, liked PATP as a kid. Checked it out the other day, and it was kind of annoying; Animation was pretty good. Hubie seemed a little light in the "flippers", if you know what I mean; (I don't know... He had girly eye-lashes and Martin Short's voice; is that guy really gay?) Well, he did love Marina pretty much, but still... The best part of the movie was the tough-as-nails rockhopper Rocko, voiced by Jim Belushi. He toughened Hubie up, and he kicked bad guy Drakes AAA... ahem... tailfeathers. I did like the little buddy comedy bit him and Hubie had going on.

Happy Feet is to Pebble and the Penguin as what Disney's Dinosaur is to Land Before Time; a realistically computer animated, more adult version of the previous movie.

LBT Fanfiction / Insane Crossover Concept Thread

I had a crazy idea... TLBT meets The Nightmare Before Christmas... The Nightmare Before Time! Plot: Littlefoot and the gang discover the holiday trees while playing in the great valley. They choose the Halloween door, because it has a "smiley face" (a jack-o-lantern) on it. Boy, are they in for a surprise... This is prehistoric Halloween Town, so it's all dinosaur skeleton, ghosts, and various creatures. The leader is Jack Skelleto-saurus. He is a living T-Rex skeleton! That's all I have so far. Feel free to add on!

General Land Before Time / Let's discuss the sequels...
« on: August 24, 2010, 12:08:06 AM »
Let's see... I stopped after the tenth one. I own 1 through 6 on vhs, I rented 7, bought 8 (I liked how they started enhancing the animation in this one.), rented 9 and 10... I vaguely remember seeing 7, 9, and 10. I like how the tenth one introduced Littlefoot's dad. Now, they just sound retarded. "Invasion of the Tinysauruses"? "The Wisdom of Friends"? What kind of titles are those?!? I read an article about the 12th one, "Great Day of the Flyers". Sounds interesting. It's got a Spinosaur in it! Anyways, I've been showing the movies to my nephew who stays with us on weekends. I like that they introduced the character Chomber in the second one. I like that they included raptors in the third one, instead of just reusing T-Rex. I lost the fourth one, but I like that they gave littlefoot a girlfriend, Ali, and there was the alligator and the bird... They were funny. And Spike spoke! LOL... Gotta love Spike! I think he's my fav! (He is my rank on TGOF, btw!) The fifth one cracked me up... The dialogue between Chomper and his parents, his mom giving Cera a goofy smile after she hugs her leg, and they even wave good bye when the Plesiosaur takes the gang back to the Great Valley! lol... Oh, and I liked the sixth one. The Lone Dinosaur, Doc, voiced by Kris Kristopherson, was a good character. He was like a cowboy dinosaur! And I like that it snowed in the eighth one, and Spike got to spend some time with the other spike-tails. The only problems I have with them are the irritating songs. I liked them as a kid, but now... ugh! And none of them could match the magic of the original.

What was the making-of featurette on the laserdisc like? What else was on it? Details, please! (Oh, and I edited my first post; I took out the widescreen feature, since it was apparently originally full screen; I geuss those of us with widescreen TVs have to watch the stretchy version, or watch it with the black bars on the side, which is just weird looking. And I added more people for the "Back To The Land Before Time" featurette.)

1988 Theatrical Release / What happened to Cera's mother and sisters?
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:43:46 PM »
I did see her mother and father on the other side of the gorge after the earth-quake happened. I only saw Cera meet up with her dad at the end. The sequels completely ignore her mother and sisters. So, what happened?

1988 Theatrical Release / A remake... what the heck?

This has got to be fake:

This sounds like just a big fan fiction/fantasy. Whoever posted this is feeding us a load of dino dung. Would be cool, though. Sounds like TLBT meets Disney's Dinosaur meets The Lord of the Rings. That would be epic! And they could make the gang teenagers. And make the movie PG, so there could be some edgier material in it. That would be awesome!

LBT Fanfiction / The Land Before Time characters All Grown Up

Here is a fan-made picture of TLBT characters as adults:

Now, if they made a movie like this, that might actually be good!

Maybe they could include the pictures of the deleted scenes. I've seen them on this website. The scene where Spike is lured out by Ducky with the berries seemed to be fully animated, and I read that it aired on T.V. in Finland. If the full scenes could not be put on the Blu-ray, at least put the still-frame pictures of them on there!

Well, Spielberg doesn't do commentaries. He wouldn't do them for the movies he directed, much less an animated movie he produced. Lucas does do commentaries, but I doubt he'd do one for TLBT. The best bet is that Don Bluth himself would do one. Now, what other features could be on the Blu-ray?

Well, maybe they could include a DVD in a combo pack or something.

Like The Land Before Time and The Pebble and the Penguin? Or The Land Before Time and The Rats of Nimh? Those or any other of Don's films that resemble animation wise?

No, I meant they could include a DVD of TLBT with the Blu-ray packaging for TLBT!

-First time in hi-def widescreen (1.85:1)

While possible, the OAR of the film is 1:37 or the Academy Ratio of 4:3. To make it widescreen you actually will lose some of the picture. It can be done but its kind of like the ol' crop the widescreen picture so it could fully fit in a 4:3 tv. I'm one of those purists...if it was made in 1:37 then it needs to stay that way because that was the director's intention. Home video was definitely on the minds of Bluth and Speilberg.

But... I thought it was originally widescreen!

If you read one of my stickies in this section, Don was actually not very happy with how this production turned out because of Speilberg's decisions to delete some footage. I'm not sure you would get them to sit in the same room to talk about a film they had very different opinions on. Maybe Don alone, but certainly not with Speilberg.

Hmm... You've got a point there... Bummer!

Never-Before-Seen Footage with intro from Don Bluth (Just to let us know why the footage was cut, and to warn parents about how "phsycologically damaging" it could be to their children, lol...

I think its been brought up...this footage is gone for good. Extras and special features were also not thought of at this time for a video market so the footage is gone.

Well... That stinks!

Blu-ray is nice, but I won't adopt the format and have to double dip on films. I see no value in it for me while my dvd copies work just fine on a 29-inch tv.

Well, maybe they could include a DVD in a combo pack or something.

My name is Doug Jenkins. I am 18 years old, and I live in a small town in Texas. I am a very big fan of movies. I loved TLBT ever since I was a kid. The first one is the best. I think it should be put on Blu-ray. Read my topic about what I'd like to see on the Blu-ray in the "1988 Theatrical Release" forum.

You know, the 25th anniversary is coming up in three years. What better way to commemorate this grand event than with a Hi-Def Blu-ray release? Here are some special features I would like to see on it:

-5.1 Surround Sound
-Isolated score by James Horner

-"Back To The Land Before Time" - Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, John Pomeroy, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, James Horner and maybe some of the writers and actors reunite to reflect on the making of and the legacy of the movie.
-Never-Before-Seen Footage with intro from Don Bluth (Just to let us know why the footage was cut, and to warn parents about how "phsycologically damaging" it could be to their children, lol... Though in today's generation, it probably wouldn't bother them!) (Yeah, I know it's either collecting dust in an archive, and even some of it non-existent. But there are clips of them (for example, the trailers and commercials, like Ducky making a funny face at the T-rex.) and I read that an "uncut" version was on television in Finland. That's kind of weird...)
-Commentary by Don Bluth
-"If We Hold On Together" music video by Leona Lewis (she united with James Horner to perform the song "I See You (Through My Eyes)" for the Avatar soundtrack; she did pretty good with that; she could work; or maybe American Idol contestant Jordin Sparks could do it; she sang it on the show, and she did great! Made me proud that she gave props to TLBT!)
-maybe some games and trailers for the 13 TLBT sequels for the kids
