Title: jassy’s other art!
Post by: jassy on October 18, 2018, 10:49:47 PM
/gasp it’s another art thread! Been meaning to start one of these for my non-LBT art, and I finally got around to it :p anyway, I’ve been rewatching the How To Train Your Dragon series to prepare myself for the third and unfortunately final movie :cry after studying some of the concept art for canon dragons like the Skrill and the Scauldron, I came up with this! A very rough and messy concept of a dragon that hunts at night using bioluminescent lures to draw it’s prey towards them  :SmugSpike I don’t really have a name yet, so feel free to drop suggestions (by which i mean pls give me suggestions) and I’ll be adding more art of this mystery dragon as I add more to the species!  :DD also, pls forgive the poor quality, I’m working through a bit of an art block,,,

Yesssss! How to Train Your Dragon art! I like this design! And dang! Those lures! So... shiny... *shakes his head* No! NO way! XD But still... well done! we definitely need more art like this! I'm sure you have other designs. :)

Thank you so much, Pterano! I’ll definitely be posting more of this dragon and giving more info as I go along. Who knows, I might even come up with more species :DD And I know, those lures are hard to resist :P

You are very welcome! My wife and I love how HTTYD! Looking forward to the 3rd movie!  :DD I look forward to seeing more, and the info you come up with. :) And I don't doubt you will come up with more species! I'm sure they'll all be "extremely dangerous; kill on sight" dragons. XD And I know! They're quite hard to resist! XD

I really like the look of this, especially the appendages and the black color. HTTYD is a great series!

Thank you, friend! Tbh the glowy effect on the appendages was totally last minute, but I’m glad I decided to go through with it :P

Here’s more of the mystery dragon, whom I’ve decided to name the Sparkling Death (I don’t think I need to explain why)   :lol they’re mostly nocturnal and hunt only at night, lying dormant during the daytime. They live in mated pairs usually, and can be found inhabiting dark caves. And I mean dark dark. Due to their dark coloring, they blend very effectively against the darkness, and their scales are covered in color changing photophores which mimic the appearance of stars against the night sky. They use their bright flashy lures to draw prey near mouths, the lure on their tail doubling as a stinger when not flashing. Unfortunately, they are hunted for these things and as a result, are very hard to domesticate, especially since your best bet at finding one is when it’s pitch dark,,, but once you earn their trust, there’s nothing a Sparkling Death won’t do for you :DD

The glowy blue shade in contrast with the blackness inky black is really nice. Plus, the species description reminds me of an angler fish, except with DRAGONS.

Also, I'm not sure if getting mauled by something called the Sparkling Death is considered amazing or a fail. (in today's society, it just reminds me of sparkling fizzy drinks and now I'm imagining choking on one of those, oh dear :p)

Replying to this several weeks late, but thank you so much Zero!! :DD

Thanks! The design for it was actually heavily based off of deep sea creatures, including the angler :p and yeah, I’d feel bad for anyone who gets maimed by one of those, considering it has sparkling in it’s name which would make you think of a fairy or something of the like  :lol

anyway, I’m back with some more art that’s not of a reptile for once. Surprising, I know. This is a very, very revamped version of a character I made back in the dark year of 2013 from a story I was working on back then as well. Hopefully I’ll have the motivation to work on the other characters as well because trust me, there’s a lot lol. Also, I know I messed up a little bit on the leg but I unfortunately didn’t notice it until after I shaded and colored  :cry

Hey great to see you posting some more artwork! I don't have too much to say other then it looks really nice! Though I'm not sure if it's me or if she's supposed to be perking up her left ear, but it seems a bit too much higher then the other. I'm also curious how you did the background. All those lines remind me of those old screen savers :p

Anyways, great job and looking forward to seeing more! :DD

Thanks man! Now that I look at it the ear placement is a tad bit off, whoops  :oops and for the background I just used a wispy glowy tool and sorta just scribbled all over the place. It was a lot of fun lol :DD

Aw, thank you so much Sneak!! :DD

Here’s character number two, aka Zonta’a big bro. He has half a tail and a torn ear so he’s seen some stuff. In his younger years he didn’t eat as much so as not to let his sister starve so he’s not as slender and lean as she is :p

Another great drawing! The pupils are better defined in this drawing over your last and I think it looks better this way personally. I did want to point out that his left hind foot is pointing towards the background while the right points to the foreground (or at the very least straight) so it makes it look a little off to me. Canines can't twist their legs like cats can afterall (that I'm aware of :p )

Very minor detail though and all around is very good! :smile

Thank you!! Woops, I guess you have a point there,,, tbh I was just sorta winging that one :p

Very fluffy indeed! Fur is so fun to draw tbh, and this is great practice  :smile and thank you so much! I’ve been a little obsessed with the wireframe effect as you can tell :P

So I was experiencing a bit of an art block the past few days, mainly because the lineart did this one was literall hell to do. Anyway, meet Kai. She’s the alpha of the pack the two main characters come across! She’s blind in one eye and she’s seen a lot (through her one good eye that is-)

I agree with the background. The mix of orange yellow and green look cool. Kai also looks really good as well! Let's see here, ears look good, feet look good, everything else looks good. I guess I don't really have any criticism this time around :p

Awesome job! :DD

this is sort of a vent piece that i drew to help calm down since I’ve been feeling so overwhelmed lately and painting backgrounds helps me to relax a little. Might do another piece just like this one in the near future, it was really satisfying to do  :^^spike

Oh wow that looks cool! I really enjoy the silhouette as it keeps the painting simple and creates a sorta frame around it with the sunset as the focus.

I would love to see more of this style in the future!  :Mo

I like the muted flow of the sunset background! The soft brushes makes it look like an oil painting, and it really gives it this... countryside-like vibe.

Indeed, the atmosphere and colors are quite neat! :) The person's silhouette is quite solidly drawn and I especially like how you've done the clouds in this picture. Yes, there are few details in this drawing but in what you were going to do, namely a scene of a peaceful evening, you did a great job! :^^spike

Well... there aren't too many details here but the colors create a nice feeling to this picture. It's interesting that first you did some more traditional art and now you have moved into these more impressionist drawings. That's not a bad thing at all, though. :)

I love that purplish color scheme (love purple in general, actually)! The contrasting shades are really neat, a bright violet to somber mauve to dark indigo, and really gives the piece an otherworldly, crystalline look. :)

Even though I have no idea from where this drawing is from, I like the detail in it and even if I have expressed this like a hundred times by now, everything from top to bottom work out perfectly and therefore I have no big critiques to point out this time. The colors work particularly nice this time by creating a nice feeling to the picture overall. I do have one question that kind of bugs me, from where is this picture from?

Thanks Anagnos! The character is from the show Aggretsuko on Netflix! 10/10 would recommend!

I watched Bambi the other day and I was especially inspired, mostly because i really love the art and general feeling of that movie  :smile  so I decided to redraw a scene from it! Really like how this turned out, and drawing the water droplets was pretty fun  :Mo

Oh, that's a nice surprise! Bambi's animation indeed is spectacular and this shot from Little April Shower is very cute. I really like how you've made this drawing look like the film as it makes this drawing even better. The background looks great as well and it'll be interesting to see if you'll decided to make more Bambi art in the future.

Now this is quite an alluring piece of art this time. I can’t say I remember much about Bambi as it’s been years since I saw that movie, and I am definitely not known for my exceptional memory, so this was kind of a letdown due to that very reason. I am by no means saying that the drawing made me feel disappointed – just the opposite factor, honestly speaking. Even so, I must second Sovereign by how amazing the overall quality of the picture is, even if I cannot remember the actual scene myself. The background works superbly once more and I share Sovereign’s enthusiasm in possibly seeing more Bambi art from you in the future. It will not be a hinder even if I can’t remember from where they are originally from.

Like Anagnos, I also have no idea what that character you drew is. What I can tell though, is that you created another amazing piece of artwork. There are some obvious issues present as I can tell, but considering that you only drew this as a warmup and practice session, I can be much more forgiving and lenient with them. That being said, I would still like to point out the flaws anyway. For starters, there are some black outlines that overlap with each other, creating the weird sloppiness of multiple lines being drawn. This issue is more glaring in the tail region. I also notice the opposite with a few portions, where two lines don't really meet, leaving a tiny opening in the area that is supposed to be closed. Plus, the hands and the phone the cat is holding could be drawn a bit better, as it does look weird to me. And lastly, the legs could be drawn straighter, as the black outline is irregular at many times. This is all the constructive criticism that I can provide for this drawing, but overall the quality and dedication is still present. Keep up the good work, jassy! :smile

...

It doesn't matter what you draw jassy, because every time a superb piece of work is produced by you. Considering that you only spend an average of 5 hours to complete each drawing with sophisticated shading, background, color palette, and theme is an achievement in itself. I have only heard of Bambi, but never really watched the movie in its entirety. But even then, I think you recreated one of its scenes wonderfully. Once again, the background is splendid, and the mice itself is pretty adorable too. Nothing much else to say, really. :)

I don't remember this scene in Bambi, but the striking pastel colors that Bambi is known for makes it very alluring to look at this piece. The muted colors give me the sense that I'm really in a rainstorm, and I love rain settings in films.

Not familiar with either of them (haven't seen Bambi in years). Both look pretty good!

Ok I lied I actually do know that show as I watched a chunk of season 1 with my roommate. Quite interesting to say the least.

While I do really like the mouse and water droplets I feel like the surrounding area and the leaf the water droplet is on should be more in focus as it's at the same depth as the subject. It can make it look a little strange in my opinion.  Good job though!

I must say that the background is absolutely breathtaking this time, and one can see you might have spent a considerable amount of time doing it. What I guess are the fireflies in the picture create more ambiance and are a welcome addition all in all. I also like how you drew the wolf in the drawing, but for future emphasis, you might want to actually make the character in another color, as the wolf is fractionally blending into the background and I had trouble initially spotting it. While the setting works very well, I’d also point out that the wolf comes across perhaps a bit out of place, as it makes the rest of the drawing look a bit strange. With a little adjustment it could perchance be made to fit the picture, but that is not an excessively bad thing, just something that caught my eye as it makes the drawing a bit harder to look at. Other than that, I am glad we are seeing more art from you as it has been too long in my opinion. Please take your time with your drawings so that they can be just as, if not even better as your previous ones. Thank you for sharing your art with us, Jassy! :^^spike

Thanks Anagnos! I’m really glad you like it Honestly the wolf sorta blending in with the background was kinda intentional, since she is all black  :PAli I’ve been so busy with work that i haven’t had as much time to draw as I’d like, but I’m still trying to squeeze some stuff in. Thanks again!

These gals have attitude! Which is always a plus. I love how these two pieces contrast each other, the first (a fav of mine) with its soothing greens and calm show of defiance with the sticking out of her tongue compared with firery oranges of second girl who bears teeth with sharp canines (dental ref lol). The hair also captured their personalities, the calm green gal has long flowing and calm hair, while tom cat, yeah I said it has heir hair in almost cat ear dhaoes. Both art pieces are imcredible Jazzy, and honestly I can’t wait to see more. :)
