Elsie's crush on Grandpa?!

Elsie has 1 very vague line in movie 1 that I didn't even think about, let alone think meant anything, when I first watched it, but then I did and couldn't help thinking it meant something apparently other people did too cause it said so on the freakin' wiki!  (I removed that bit, I should add)

I feel soooo ashamed about it. I know, I'm a Ducky/Petrie shipper and a Littlefoot/Ali shipper but come on! Grandpa is married! It couldn't possibly work out, any more then Littlefoot and the gang being able to live with Mo. And these direct-to-videos are meant for younger kids; I doubt they would insert some subliminal, vague signs of a schoolgirl crush in it, espicially not with a kindly character like Elsie.

What line are you talking about?

I don't even remember anything like this, and I saw that film just recently.

Littlefoot: "Look, Chomper. You're uncle is dead, and it's just right for your friends to be there for you. You'd be there if someone we know died, right?"

Chomper: "Well, sure I would!"

Come give my LBT TV Series fanfiction, PAST-O-RAMA, a read!

Pretty much my point.

It's better left forgotten and not made into something it's not.

Elsie made a comment in LBT5 about how she wished Littlefoot's grandpa had flippers because she and him would make quite a pair swimming about in the sea. It wasn't a necessary line in the movie and didn't really add anything to it for me other than thoughts of plesiosaur/apatosaur hybrid children.

Then why bring it up ?

Elsie mentioned Grandpa Longneck is where Littlefoot gets his looks from, and that if Grandpa Longneck had flippers the two would make quite a pair swimming around in the sea.  Then, Cera expressed her hatred of the sea while becoming visibly seasick :p.

Because we never saw the scene in which Elsie met Grandpa Longneck, how do we know he wasn't by himself searching along the beach for the kids while the adults either slept or looked for food?  She only mentioned seeing Grandpa Longneck and nobody else.  I never got the impression Elsie was lusting for a married guy, or even that she had a crush on him.  I think she meant that she would've liked to have found a mate like him ;).

And if you think the nonexistent subliminal messages in LBT are bad, check out some of the Disney subliminal messages and then judge for yourself if this is really as bad as you're making it out to be.

[/I]Yeah, yeah, I know, there's the word "sex" in The Lion King, but it was really supposed to be SFX, and the priest supposedly getting a boner in "The Little Mermaid" when it's actually his knee we're seeing. As for the cover of the film, I'm not sure I would have even noticed the tower looks like---well, if it hadn't been pointed out.

In "Aladdin" though from Jasmine's reaction I think he actually might be saying "Good teenagers take off their clothes"

Oh, and in "The Rescuers" the shot of the topless woman was actually inserted into a re-release of the film, long after it's sequel had been released.

But back onto this topic, I don't see why they would make an apparent schoolgirl crush so subliminal that it takes ya a few times watching the movie till ya catch it, or that it would be towards someone who's already married

Yeah I didn't notice it till I watched it much later. I think Grandpa was just teasing tho :)

Grandpa never even really said anything to (or about) her that we saw besides "Goodbye and thank u so much!!" So he was never really teasing, at least.

Interesting food for thought. But I agree with Cancerian Tiger; it really sounds like Elsie was just expressing her wish that she'd found a mate like Grandpa. It WAS worded a little weirdly, though.

I think I'd have to agree with everything you just said. I kinda don't think Elsie was necessarily implying that she had a crush on Grandpa Longneck, but more that she would love to meet and marry a fellow elasmosaurus who's like him, and perhaps that she would have a crush on him if he was an elasmosaurus instead of an apatosaurus. Although I do also agree that the wording does suggest that maybe she did have a little bit of a crush on Grandpa Longneck, and that he'd be perfect if he was an elasmosaurus. It seems to be kind of a fine line.

I kind took Elsie’s line to mean “Ooh, a hot guy! No way I’m getting together with him but no harm in looking, right?” She’s just at the age where she feels little shame for having a crush on another species or bring it up. It’s probably a light attraction, and since her escorting the gang back to shore indicates she’s a friendly sort, she probably won’t bring it up so as not to make anyone uncomfortable (Well…maybe one teasing comment where she gives a thumbs up equivalent to Grandma for snagging herself quite a catch in Grandpa).

Watch out, Elsie is a home wrecker. :p

In all seriousness, it was a harmless statement. It testifies Grandpa Longneck is still a silver fox. :lol
