Title: Why "Littlefoot"?
Post by: Truttle on May 02, 2017, 08:24:11 PM
I've sort of wondered. Why "Littlefoot"? Sure the other's names aren't particularly creative but they Littlefoot's name always made me wonder. What about you?  :p

He was originally going to be called Thunderfoot, but a blue triceratops had that name. I guess littlefoot was made to be more suitable for children. I had thought that Thunderfoot would be something as in he is not scared of thunder. I wonder to like you, turtle

Maybe it was a polite way of saying he was a klutz as a youngster :p

Well in some of the early scripts they were calling on Littlefoot to be named "Thunderfoot" but copyright constraints made them decide to name him something else.

I guess Littlefoot was a simple change in their plans on account of him being little at time.

I like this name.
It's the same like "why Ducky? Why Cera?"

Just the name alone is perfect and fits him well

Thunderfoot is cool good name too. :D

Also, I like "Ovie" MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH more than "Ruby" for some reason.

I always thought that Ruby is a cool name. Ovie sounds a bit too lazy for me.  :p Also, I prefer Littlefoot to Thunderfoot.

for me, "Ovie" it sounds more sweet, cute and fitting.

I think Littlefoot and Ducky names are epitome of cuteness, so I like them very much. Thunderfoot are more... mean. (Крожки-Ножки... YEs. Great!)
Cera and Petrie sound normal.
Spike and Bambo sound strong.
Chomper (Зубастик! ^^) sounds... cute and little weird at the same time. XD

I don't think there's a canon character named Bambo. Are you referring to Dalekdino's LBT fancharacter? He has a threehorn character named that.

That was Cera's name during the production of the first film.

ThunderFoot sounds like a Indian type name witch is fine if they allowed that

I see that others have covered the spiel about how they were going to call him Thunderfoot and then found out there was another dinosaur character with that name and then were like "Oh s***!! We need to think of a different name for him!!". I don't know why they picked Littlefoot, but I do like it. I think it just has a better ring to it than Thunderfoot.

I can't imagine Littlefoot being known by any other name; not even when he becomes a grown up.

Honestly, neither could I. I know that his feet definitely won't be little when he grows up, but I've known him as Littlefoot since I was a young child, so that's the name for him that's ingrained in me. Maybe that's part of why I think Littlefoot has such a better ring to it than Thunderfoot, although I think if it was reverse (i.e. they were going to call him Littlefoot but had to change it to Thunderfoot), I'd probably still say that Littlefoot is a better name for him.

Makes me wonder what our LBT experience would've been like if they stuck with the names Thunderfoot, Bambo, Ovie, etc.

Wanna see a reality with Thunderfoot and lovely Ovie name. :D

Littlefoot would not hear name jokes about how he is little.

Ruby would... Well, I don't see there will be difference.

The most imortant change: finally, there would not be huge army of shippers, because Cera is male in this reality! *fireworks*

Kroshki-Nozhki (yes I can read Cyrillic letters) has a nice ring to it. However, I died laughing when I translated that into English!! :lol  :lol

Have you encountered slash? Shipping rivals who are either both male or female is often the one of the most popular ship within any one fandom.

Building from what other people mentioned, I believe I read that they dubbed "Littlefoot" in late enough in production that the lip flaps still make out Thunderfoot? I'm unsure if it's late enough that they already recorded lines with Thunderfoot said that then had to be redubbed or not. I also agree with others I can't imagine Littlefoot or any other characters with any other names but they are the default now. If they used Thunderfoot or Ovie after all, and we later heard they were considering changing it to Littlefoot and Ruby, maybe we would have found the latter unnatural too.

Slight tangent: It was kind of obvious within hindsight that Shorty would become Littlefoot's brother since they both have size-challenged names that'd become quite ironic if they grow up to be big (Especially true for Shorty, whose kind grow larger than Littlefoot and Bron's kind. Oh, I can already tell Shorty would tease Littlefoot and probably Bron about this!)

Luckily there isn't such a phenomenon in this franchise but it's actually surprising that no one has gotten the idea of genderbenbing either Littlefoot or Cera and then writing a steamy romance between them.  :idea  :x

Like in the Seven Hunters? I've seen your reviews on Fanfiction and it seems you like the story quite a bit. :p As for the overall issue, the names are probably just a matter of getting used to but I certainly wouldn't want to see as lazy names as Ovie (how would Cera sound with a name like Tricie? :lol ) However, I'm not too fond of Shorty's name. Most of the other characters' names seem to be at least neutral to the character whereas Shorty is basically just a childish slur. His and Littlefoot's names' similarities were a good observation but that still doesn't make the green longneck's name too appealing, imo.

I put the slash comment just to demonstrate how stupid it is and I'm not really into romantic stories so yeah... :p As for Ovie, I don't have anything against "her" now but I could have if Ruby actually had such a name. :lol Just not the most creative or interesting name there is for an official character. ;)

I wouldn't know about lucky, since I love me some queer stories and seen many done well (Though I can understand a lack of interest in romance. Even in some future fics I have in mind, there are characters many of whom I fav I keep unmated and childless), but anyway...

I've already seen some shipping of Littlefoot and Cera as their current gender identities, so no gender-shifting needed. Formula: rivalry+characters of near age to one another=shipping fuel regardless of the gender identities or sexual orientations involved.

I still mentally default to their birth names when identifying them. Even when they used their sharptooth names, it can still throw me off. It's how I began to know them and it's how I still know them. It's kind of like hearing their kid voices have imprinted in my mind. Even when I read fanfics where they are adults or even elders, they still speak with prepubescent voices in my mind.

You could always name OCs those original names as a kinda shout out if they interest you enough.
