How do you think funerals work in The Land Before Time Universe?

Everyone dies eventually.  It is a fact of life.  Whether it be from old age, illness, injury, etc, we will all one day leave this world.  Given this, let's say someone in the Great Valley dies.  How would the funeral go for that dinosaur?  More so, what would they do with the body?  How would everything be handled?

On top of that, how would it go for those in The Mysterious Beyond?  How do they handle their dead?

Let's see what theories all of you hold.

Mysterious Beyond seems an obvious response in my opinion, given the amount of skeletal remains we see. I suspect a brief prayer for their fallen comrade before they move on, hesitant to be the next meal.

Great Valley would be a lot trickier. In my opinion, I say they'd maybe dedicate a mass burial ground like area, considering skeletons will definitely remain and it would be unsightly? What do I know?

I think that if a death occurred in the Great Valley, then there would be a massive burial ground.  Maybe they could even place a rock over one's grave to mark where the fallen ones are buried; big rocks for adults, and small rocks if a child happened to become an unlucky victim of death way too soon. Overtime, one could visit that rock and remember the one whom is buried underneath.

I can't say the same about the Mysterious Beyond, because Sharpteeth could be lurking at any corner and would be eager to eat decaying carcasses.  A herd would probably just say a brief prayer and say a few words before they move on.

That is true. I highly doubt that Universal will ever show anyone die in the Great Valley (although I’m sure at least a few “extras” have died off camera), so we will almost definitely never know for sure.

I definitely would agree with everyone else that in the Mysterious Beyond, they probably just quickly give their regards to their fallen ones and move on so that THEY don’t become fallen ones themselves, especially given the fact that many types of theropods are believed to have both scavenged AND hunted (so who’s to say that a sharptooth who comes to snack on the dead flattooth won’t also pick off any live ones around?)

As for in the Great Valley, where there are no sharpteeth—scavengers or otherwise, that’s a bit trickier. My best guess is that maybe they’d bury their dead under a pile of rocks like Doc and Grandpa Longneck did with that sharptooth in LBT 6; I have a hard time picturing the Great Valley dinosaurs digging a giant grave, which is what has me thinking they’d more likely use rocks instead.

Sharpteeth are burned on a molten lava pyre like their ancestors the Leviathan.

Leaf Eaters are ceremonially wrapped in Tree Stars and buried in the ground near Saurus Rock.

Omnivores like Ruby are placed in giant egg shaped rock that is rolled into waters to sink at the bottom of the Big Big Water.

Since we're talking about dinosaurs here, they obviously do not posses the same level of intellect when it comes to arranging funerals as we humans do. And since we haven't seen a single one in all of these years (I don't think the producers would go for something like that. Might be a little too dark for children), I don't expect we'll get one in the future either. That said, our imagination works well in predicting what could occur in the valley, when a resident perishes, for example. There's no one clear answer to this theory, as we all have our own predictions, but it would be rather practical to think the entire valley would likely mourn the passing of their fellow resident.

I agree that it is highly improbable that we shall get a requiem in any LBT sequels, unless Don Bluth makes a reboot series of darker sequels.

I wouldn't exactly be against the idea of rebooting the series to make the sequels a tad bit darker than we have now, but there would be numerous problems to go along with that plan. As much as I like that idea, I see it very unlikely to happen. And how could they make the Wisdom of Friends darker? By throwing yellowbellies off a cliff or into scorching lava? Now that sounds like a solid plan. Let's do it!
