Ranks 30-21

We begin the top 30 with another villain, as Strut slots into 30th place with 8 minutes and 44 seconds of screen time in Great Valley Adventure.  Strut was the lesser of the two Egg Stealers in the 2nd movie, though.  He didn't seem all too excited about the Egg Stealer lifestyle as Ozzy was, preferring to instead eat grass.  That didn't make Strut any better, though.  He was still evil, and he developed a hatred for the Gang at about the same level as Ozzy, and was willing to go to great lengths to eliminate them.  In fact, it was Strut who came up with the idea of throwing Littlefoot off the edge of the Great Wall and send him falling to his death, and Ozzy readily agreed to the idea.  However, Ozzy made the mistake of squeezing Chomper into a chokehold, and this drew the ire of the Sharptooth's angry parents, who promptly went after them and left their fates uncertain.  Strut was much like Rinkus in that he was not the most evil one in the group but still did not harbor good feelings.

At #29, we have the last of the many characters who were exclusive to Great Longneck Migration, as Pat had 8 minutes and 47 seconds of screen time.  An elderly Longneck who accompanied the Gang on their journey to track down the whereabouts of Littlefoot and his grandparents, he was a very humble and modest Longneck, as shown when he wasn't fazed in the least by Cera's grouchy attitude, knowing full well that she would inevitably change her mind, and when she indeed did, he was more than happy to be their traveling companion, telling them the stories and legends of the Longneck creation myth.  However, his leg is then burned by lava, and despite his pleas for the Gang to continue on without him so that he doesn't slow them down, they instead chose to stay and keep him in their group, much to his surprise and happiness.  Unfortunately, his burned foot does prove to be a disadvantage when it comes to battling Sharpteeth, as shown when he takes several massive blows, but in the end, thanks to Bron and all the others, he was able to survive the encounter and took part in "supposedly saving the world" with the other Longnecks.  The Gang even invited him to come live with them in the Great Valley, but despite this, he was never seen again, and I sometimes wonder what happened to him after he moved into the Great Valley.

From one Longneck to another, we have Doc in 28th place with 8 minutes and 51 seconds of screen time in Secret of Saurus Rock, including Grandpa's stories and the Lone Dinosaur musical number.  Doc, as I mentioned much earlier, is implied to be the legendary Lone Dinosaur who famously defeated the "Meanest Sharptooth of all," many years before the events of the series take place, during which his right eye was permanently scarred, and when Littlefoot discovers the scar running down his right eye, he is convinced that Doc is the famous Lone Dinosaur and grows to idolize him.  However, after Saurus Rock is broken, the other dinosaurs in the Great Valley mistakenly believe that Doc's presence is causing bad luck everywhere, and he chooses to leave despite Littlefoot's protests.  He does perform one final heroic act before departing, though, as he steps in at the nick of time to help Grandpa Longneck deal with two Sharpteeth who seemed to have gained the upper hand on him while he was trying to defend Littlefoot.  His timely arrival ended up ensuring the defeat of the two Sharpteeth, and he parted ways with Littlefoot by telling him that he didn't need him as a hero because he already had one: his grandfather.  This inspired the young Longneck to portray his grandfather as the Great Dinosaur who protected the Great Valley with his many years of experience and effectiveness in combat.  I never really thought highly of Doc, though.  I think the last thing the series needed was a western-like vibe.

At #27, we have the other villain from Journey Through the Mists.  Dil, the blind Belly Dragger, had 8 minutes and 53 seconds on screen.  I mentioned earlier that hers and Ichy's partnership did not work out well, as their bickering prevented them from becoming an effective duo.  Sure, Dil was blind and needed Ichy to guide her, but honestly, did they really need each other?  They did come very close to eating the Gang a few times, though.  They ended up having near-misses with Cera, then Petrie, and finally Ducky.  In the end, though, they accomplished nothing and ultimately went their separate ways, only for Dil to be chased and possibly killed by a Swimming Sharptooth.  Not the best way for a blind Belly Dragger to go out.

At #26, we take a considerable jump from almost nine minutes to more than ten minutes, as Hyp becomes our first ten-minute character with 10 minutes and 16 seconds on screen during Time of the Great Giving, where he was the secondary antagonist (behind Topps).  He was a character you may have loved to hate when you first saw the third film.  He was the leader of a small group of bullies who picked on the Gang on a regular basis, and he even succeeded in getting the Gang disbanded by Topps by using Nod to frame Littlefoot for a wrongdoing he didn't commit.  He was definitely a hateful character for most of his time on screen.  He even showed minimal gratefulness towards the Gang when they rescued him from the Sinking Sand after his own two friends stood there and did nothing, instead choosing to argue with each other over who should save him.  However, after Topps saw the cruel way in which Hyp's father treated him, he saw the error of his own ways and convinced everyone, including Hyp, that they should treat each other with kindness.  Ultimately, Hyp redeemed himself when he assisted the Gang in defeating the Fast Biters who subsequently attacked the group, and restored the water flow into the Great Valley, and it seemed his bullying ways were finally gone as he began to treat Littlefoot and the Gang with respect and kindness.  I am aware he sorta went back to his bullying ways in the TV series, but that, too, was short-lived.  Despite his redemption, I still have little sympathy for Hyp.

We begin the top 25 with another one of the nastier characters.  Ozzy, the worse of the two Egg Stealers from Great Valley Adventure, had 10 minutes and 38 seconds of screen time.  This villain, like Sierra, had no remorse, and he took pleasure in eating eggs containing unborn fetuses of baby dinosaurs, much like an unhealthy drug addiction.  We can all be very happy that we never saw any of that on screen, otherwise Great Valley Adventure would surely have ended up with a PG rating, even if kids were interested in dinosaurs, including ones who may have eaten other dinosaurs' eggs.  Also, like Sierra, he, too, wanted to kill Littlefoot in cold blood.  However, when Chomper tried to stop Strut from throwing Littlefoot off the Great Wall to his death, Ozzy made his fatal mistake by grabbing the baby Sharptooth and attempting to choke him.  This was witnessed by his parents, who proceeded to snap at him and Strut, and pursue them out of the Great Valley, unwittingly saving Littlefoot in the process.  Ozzy was definitely a psychopath, but not on the same level as Sierra was.  I still think the Flyer was a lot worse than this Egg Stealer.

We have a complete change of mood for the next character, going from one of the most evil villains in the series to one of the most favorite characters outside the Gang.  Mo comes in at #24 with 12 minutes and 16 seconds of screen time.  This only counts Journey to Big Water, as I did not count his cameos in Great Longneck Migration or Great Day of the Flyers, as those cameos each lasted less than two seconds (hence why Ducky's siblings DID count in Invasion of the Tinysauruses).  Mo was such a lovable character in Journey to Big Water.  In fact, director Charles Grosvenor's son loved him so much that Grosvenor insisted he have cameos in later films, hence his brief appearances in "Adventuring" in the 10th film and "Flip, Flap and Fly" in the 12th film.  This fun-loving Swimmer ended up being swept from the Big Water and into the Great Valley by a massive rainstorm that caused flooding in the valley, and after befriending a curious Littlefoot, he enlisted the Gang in helping him return home ... against their families' wishes with their "Don't Talk to Strangers" attitude.  A subsequent earth shake effectively left them with no choice but to go on with their mission in bringing Mo home, and throughout the adventure, he won the hearts of many viewers, and even the Gang (minus Cera because of her initial jealousy, though she did come to like him much later, only after Mo seemingly gave himself up to save the Gang from a Sharptooth Swimmer whom had been stalking them).  Mo even gave us a glimpse into the beautiful underwater world of prehistoric times, and young audiences, I'm sure, were just as mesmerized as Littlefoot was.  He is a character who was easy for young ones to fall in love with, and I think it's nice that he made the top 25 on this list. :Mo

And now we have the characters who inspired several of my LBT fanfiction stories, and those would be Petrie's siblings.  They end up in 23rd place with a combined total of 12 minutes and 16 seconds of screen time, equal with Mo, but they appeared in five films to Mo's one, so they placed higher.  Right up until Great Day of the Flyers, they had placed last in screen time in EVERY movie they had appeared in.  Then, in the 12th movie, they finally came out of their shadow.  Their 10 minutes and 55 seconds of screen time in this film moved them all the way up from #64 to #18, but the Yellow Bellies from the following film knocked them right back out of the top 20 for good.  Nevertheless, these young Flyers had a shining moment that placed them in the top 25.  Sure, I didn't like how they treated their brother at times.  It made me cringe watching poor Petrie get belittled by his siblings whilst his loving mother tried to put a stop to it.  As I stated in my review for this film, though, they showed that they have big hearts when it counts, as shown when they watch Petrie abandon their flying test to rescue the newborn Tricia after Guido's feeble attempt at saving her from a waterfall.  It soon becomes clear that Tricia's weight would be too much for Petrie to take, so they have their big moment when they swoop down to help their brother save the day, and in the end they not only earn big praise from their mother, but also become some of the few to earn the admiration of Topps, who was so grateful to them all for saving the life of his newborn daughter.  Petrie was a hero that day for sure, but his siblings definitely played a part in his heroic act, and had it not been for Great Day of the Flyers, they would be nowhere near this high on the list for screen time.

We're gonna have back-to-back slots with Flyers in them, as Etta places 22nd with 12 minutes and 28 seconds of screen time in Journey of the Brave.  I said before that she was one of the best of the series' one-off guest characters, as she played a pivotal role in the latter half of the 14th film, showing Littlefoot how to see the light at the end of the tunnel when all seems grave, and even being the one to bring the Gang back together after their earlier falling out.  She ultimately accompanied the children on the last leg of their journey to find Bron and assisted in his rescue.  Her voice actress Reba McEntire was also a big part of her character, bringing a great presence to lighten the chilly mood of that particular segment of the movie.  I loathe country music, but McEntire was outstanding in the role of Etta, and she was, indeed, the light in the darkness.

We unfortunately have to wrap up the 30-21 section with one of the horrendous Yellow Bellies from the equally-horrendous Wisdom of Friends.  Foobie comes in 21st place with 13 minutes and 27 seconds of screen time.  He was the most tolerable of the three Yellow Belly characters, but only because unlike Loofah and Doofah, he showed rare signs of small intelligence despite not having any dialogue, whilst Loofah and Doofah had no intelligence whatsoever.  I'm sure that being mute was what allowed him to become fast friends with Spike (another mute character), but he still has many of the insufferable tendencies the other Yellow Bellies have.  Because of that, his relative intelligence does nothing to change my views on this character.  He is still just as bad as the others of his herd. :petrienotamused

Coming up on my next post, we go into the top 20 with ranks 20th through 11th!

22
Ranks 40-31

Moving into the top 40, we have Littlefoot's mother ranked at #40 with 7 minutes and 24 seconds of screen time.  This actually includes 15 seconds in Bron's flashbacks in Great Longneck Migration.  She was one of the more famous characters in the LBT series.  She played a very important role in the first half of the first movie that can NEVER be forgotten.  She taught Littlefoot so much as the young Longneck grew up, and in the end, she ultimately gave her life to save not only her son, but Cera as well.  This is why I was so pissed off at Cera for calling her a stupid Flathead, showing that she had no gratefulness towards her for saving her life probably until her redemption at the end.  Littlefoot's mother's death was a huge blow, but in the end, it set the entire story up for her son as he set off to find the Great Valley.  She even appeared before him in spiritual form on several occasions, eventually leading him and his new friends right to their new dream home.  Once the Sharptooth whom had killed her was finally gone for good, and the newly-formed Gang of Five arrived in the Great Valley, Littlefoot was assured her soul could finally rest in peace.  She is seen by many as the saint and unsung hero of the first movie, and her sacrifice ensured that Littlefoot would have a home with his grandparents (her own parents, for that matter), along with new companions whose friendships were very hard-earned.  She is in the elite of Land Before Time characters.

Going from one protecting mother to another, we have Chomper's mother at #39 with 7 minutes and 26 seconds of screen time.  She ended up with a lot more screen time than her mate did, appearing in more scenes in both movies they were in.  Like Littlefoot's mother in the previous slot, this one is also a doting mother to her one and only son, and would go to great lengths to protect him.  Like her mate, she, too, was admired by Littlefoot's willingness to rescue Chomper, and when she came to realize just how much Chomper's friends meant to him, she actually shared a smile with Cera (the only time in the entire seires we saw an adult Sharptooth smile).  They then proceeded to do something which no other Sharpteeth would ever have done; they offered the Gang protection, which they politely refused because they had families worried about them and had a home to go back to.  Accepting this, they saw their son's friends off and even waved goodbye to them, a nice final gesture out of gratefulness for saving their son's life.  Unfortunately, neither of Chomper's parents have been seen since then, but it would be interesting to delve more into their backstory and how their son ended up living in the Great Valley with Ruby as his caretaker.

We've finally reached our first named antagonist.  Well, Shorty was sort of an antagonist in the 10th movie, but this is our first TRUE named antagonist.  This would be Nod, one of Hyp's two cronies in Time of the Great Giving, with 7 minutes and 28 seconds of screen time, putting him in 38th place.  Of Hyp's two sidekicks, I often have a hard time pondering who is worse: Mutt or Nod?  Mutt is the stupid one, while Nod just likes to agree with Hyp like a mindless slave serving his master without question.  Nod, however, was the one who splashed water in Topps' face (although this was actually caused by Hyp) and left Littlefoot to be wrongfully blamed for it.  Topps, in retaliation, forced the Gang to be split apart and disbanded, but this didn't last long.  Nod proved to be even more of an incapable friend when he and Mutt argued over who should rescue Hyp from the sinking sand, leaving Littlefoot and his friends to save him instead.  He and Mutt did eventually lighten up and make friends with the Gang, though, and even played a role in helping them restore the water supply to the Great Valley at the end.

Now we have one of the most evil characters in the whole series.  Rinkus ranks in 37th with 7 minutes and 39 seconds of screen time in Stone of Cold Fire.  Of Pterano's henchmen, Rinkus was the lesser of the two.  He wasn't as bad as Sierra, but he did not secretly have a heart of gold like Pterano did.  He was actually more calculating when it came to betraying Pterano in the finale, unlike his impatient fellow crony.  He also displayed more cowardly and hesitant tendencies than Sierra.  He was, however, just as hungry for power, and in the end, they both got what they deserved when the Stone exploded in their faces and sent them soaring into their earlier resting spot, singed and possibly severely injured.

At #36, we have Skitter, another one of the Tiny Longnecks from Invasion of the Tinysauruses, with 7 minutes and 51 seconds on screen.  Unlike his superior, Big Daddy, he was a very friendly one who readily accepted Littlefoot without a second thought.  That may have changed after his confession, but even then he and Lizzie were unwilling to leave the valley behind when Big Daddy forced them to leave.  During the Fast Biter attack, Skitter and Lizzie were the first Tiny Longnecks on the scene, biting into the Fast Biters' skin, showing that they had such a big heart towards the Gang and the valley as a whole.  This would explain why they got more screen time than Big Daddy did, as he didn't arrive on the battlefield until later.

Moving on to Hyp's other crony, we have Mutt ranked at #35 with 7 minutes and 51 seconds of screen time in Time of the Great Giving. This ties him with Skitter, but I placed Mutt higher.  Mutt was the stupid one of the trio of bullies who mercilessly picked on Littlefoot and his friends constantly throughout the third film.  Mutt was unintelligent and dimwitted compared to Nod, but he was very loyal to Hyp.  As I mentioned when going over Nod, he, too, had a redemption arc when he, along with Hyp and Nod, helped the Gang defeat the Fast Biters and bring the water supply back to the Great Valley, and he also warmed up to the Gang as they made their way back home to a replenished Great Valley.

Moving back to Invasion of the Tinysauruses one more time.  Of the Tiny Longnecks, Lizzie ended up with the most screen time with 7 minutes and 57 seconds, placing her in 34th.  She may have only had six seconds more screen time than Skitter, but what really established her as the most prominent Tinysaur was the musical number she shared with Cera.  She could easily relate to her as they both had issues regarding their fathers which they eventually sorted out by the end of the movie.

At #33, we have, in my opinion, the most evil character in the entire series; Sierra.  His screen time on Stone of Cold Fire was 8 minutes and 23 seconds, meaning there is a gap of more than half a minute between him and Lizzie.  Sierra was a new breed of messed up.  He was a deranged psychopath who would stop at nothing to get his way.  He continuously grew ever more impatient with Pterano's more thought-out calculations and Rinkus' hesitancy.  Kidnapping Ducky was just absolutely wrong, but what really made him worse than anyone else in this universe was this very line ...

"Once we take over, first thing I'm gonna do is feed them overgrown eggs to the Sharpteeth!"

That, in my opinion, solidified his status as the worst character in the entire series in terms of evilness.  He would have happily murdered five innocent children in cold blood without a second thought and without any shred of remorse.  He was a vile, twisted lunatic who would have gladly committed murder in the first degree, and Pterano actually tried to stop him from doing this!  For that reason, I was screaming with joy the first time I watched the movie and saw the Stone of Cold Fire blow up right in the Flyers' faces.  This maniac got what he deserved in the end, and even though it's unknown whether or not Rinkus and Sierra survived, it was satisfying to see Sierra get blasted off by the very thing he sought to take unimaginable power from.  Karma's a bitch.

At #32, we have a character who actually ended up with four credited movie appearances: Mr. Clubtail, with a total of 8 minutes and 36 seconds of screen time.  He was somewhat of a grumpy character at times, and he even had a heated rivalry with Topps occasionally.  Unlike Topps, though, he tried his best not to show his gruff side when the children were present, meaning that he at least knew where the line of morality was when it came to the Gang, though he did get frustrated with them at times.  Most notably, there was that one time he called Petrie a racial slur right in his face after he had just screwed up a practice session for the upcoming Day of the Flyers.  I guess it's up for debate who's worse: Topps or Mr. Clubtail?

Moving on to one of the more terrifying villains of the series, we have Ichy in 31st place with 8 minutes and 39 seconds of screen time in Journey Through the Mists.  Ichy is definitely an evil character, but he's not as bad as Sierra, and that's because he is a Sharptooth Flyer who is driven by instinct to feed as part of his nature.  He did display somewhat psychopathic tendencies, as he, too, was willing to kill the Gang in cold blood, but only to satisfy his and Dil's need to feed.  Another reason I say Ichy is not as evil as Sierra is because he and Dil do not make a great team.  The two argue with each other constantly, and in the end we see them accomplish nothing together.  That said, though, the encounters Ichy and Dil had with the Gang (plus Ali) were actually considered to be so frightening that movie critics thought they would scare younger viewers.

Now we're really beginning to see a few favorites show up here and there.  Get ready to see some more as we get into the top 30 with ranks 30th through 21st!

Okay.  We've now reached the top 50!  Time to get into the upper half of the list! :)petrie

Ranks 50-41

Kicking off the top 50, we ironically have our first character to reach five minutes, as the Browridge Sharptooth from Secret of Saurus Rock comes in at #50 with exactly five minutes on the dot.  The Gang ended up running into this Sharptooth three times over the course of the 6th movie.  Most notably, Littlefoot, thinking he was dead, tried to yank a tooth out of his jaw, but this proved to be foolish, as the Sharptooth turned out to be very much alive, and to make matters worse, another Sharptooth was lurking around the corner, and Littlefoot was left in all-out panic.  It was so bad he couldn't even think about running anymore until his grandfather showed up to defend him.  Even then, though, although Grandpa Longneck briefly got the upper hand over the second Sharptooth (which I mentioned earlier at #86 on this list), the Browridge arrived to turn the tables, distracting Grandpa long enough for the other Sharptooth to kick him right in the underbelly.  It seemed the Longneck was finished, but, of course, Doc showed up at just the right time, and the two Longnecks ended up crushing the two Sharpteeth to death with rocks in the end.  Littlefoot was even able to get that tooth he wanted so he could repair Saurus Rock and end the bad luck in the Great Valley.  Five minutes of screen time definitely ensured this was one of the more questionably impactful Sharpteeth in the films. :petrie

In 49th place, we have the first of the Longneck characters from Great Longneck Migration, as Sue had 5 minutes and 15 seconds of screen time.  She made her mark the moment she first appeared by nearly crushing the Belly Dragger who was about to eat Littlefoot, and her size was so great that even his grandparents were initially startled by her appearance until she showed herself to be a Longneck just like them.  According to Bron, she can be quite a formidable combatant due to her huge size compared to almost all other Longnecks.  No wonder she fell in love with one that was even taller than her!

At #48, we have arguably one of the most adorable characters in the entire series, and that is Cera's baby sister, Tricia, with 5 minutes and 47 seconds of screen time from the moment she hatches in Great Day of the Flyers.  She is at the center of the subplot of the 12th film, as she was the reason Cera had become fed up with her father and stepmother seemingly ignoring her while giving all their attention to Tricia.  In the end, she ended up playing a pivotal role in the movie's finale, as she inadvertently interfered with the Day of the Flyers by falling into a fast-flowing river that led to a huge waterfall which certainly would have led to her early demise if not for Petrie's quick thinking and newfound bravery (having rescued Guido from a Sailback Sharptooth mere hours earlier).  On top of that, wrapping up her arc with her saying her first word (Cera's name) was the icing on the cake.

#47 is the first of the two Rainbow Faces from Stone of Cold Fire.  In this case, the female one had 6 minutes and 6 seconds of screen time, making her our first 6-minute character.  I've made it known on this forum before that I'm not too fond of the Rainbow Faces because of them supposedly being aliens disguised as dinosaurs.  For screen time, the female one was the lesser of the two, being more strict than her male companion, not willing to share secrets as he was.

#46 is Tippy, the Spiketail whom Spike befriended in Big Freeze, with 6 minutes and 11 seconds of screen time.  This is a character that I don't have much to say about, although it was good to see Spike finally meet somebody of his own kind.  The two not only became fast friends, but over the course of the 8th film, we see them do so many fun things together, up to the point where Ducky begins to feel guilty over mistreating her adopted brother.  It was almost as if Tippy was on the verge of essentially replacing Ducky as Spike's best friend, but in the end, Spike, of course, chose to go back to his foster Swimmer family where he rightfully belonged.

This next one will be absolutely insane.  Just ahead of Tippy, at #45, we have his own mother!  She had 6 minutes and 13 seconds on screen, beating her own son by just two seconds!  This was the only time in the entire series where a child character had LESS screen time than his or her own parent!  That's just wild!  You wouldn't think this would be possible, but Tippy's mother did play quite a large role in Big Freeze.  She was essentially the number two of the Spiketail herd, often speaking alongside her herd leader (whom I mentioned earlier at #63), and serving as the occasional voice of reason for the Spiketail herd.  She seemed happy to have Spike become a member of their herd, but after seeing just how well Spike was around Ducky and the Gang at the end of the movie, she realized that this Swimmer family was where he truly belonged.

Tippy and his mother both end up being sandwiched by the two Rainbow Faces from the movie previous to theirs, as the male Rainbow Face from Stone of Cold Fire comes in at #44 with 6 minutes and 22 seconds on screen, 16 seconds more than his female companion.  As I mentioned, he was much more open to sharing their secrets, unlike his female companion, and constantly had to be kept in line by her.  Definitely a strange character, one of the few things I would agree with Topps on.

Going back to Great Longneck Migration again, with Littlefoot's adopted brother Shorty ranking in 43rd place with 6 minutes and 39 seconds of screen time.  Right off the bat, this kid was a bully who took an immediate dislike to Littlefoot at first glance, but once it became clear that Littlefoot was Bron's biological son, this only made things worse for Shorty, whom until now had grown to depend on Bron and was now jealous of Littlefoot, considering his own terrible past.  It got to the point where he considered running away from the Longneck herd, but was caught by Littlefoot, who managed to knock some sense into him, and eventually the Longnecks made amends.  Littlefoot even asked Bron to adopt Shorty as his own, which he happily accepted, and thus Littlefoot, like Ducky, ended up with a new adopted brother whom he could call family.  Shockingly, Shorty was never even mentioned in Journey of the Brave, not even by Littlefoot nor Bron, and I wish I knew why this was the case.  No wonder he ended up at #43.

Well, well, speaking of Bron, and speaking of Journey of the Brave, we have Wild Arms in 42nd place with 6 minutes and 43 seconds of screen time, just four seconds more than Shorty.  This character came off as annoying to many other characters and film critics, but he was nowhere near as bad as the Yellow Bellies from the previous movie.  Comparatively, Wild Arms was much more tolerable.  That said, though, he was a coward who made up lies to exaggerate his supposed bravery, and Etta even offhandedly called him out on this.  His reputation probably didn't get any better as he was the one who was indirectly responsible for Bron's peril, resulting in Littlefoot and the Gang taking off to rescue him from the Fire Mountain where he ended up trapped at.  The looks on the faces of Grandpa Longneck and Topps during their time together says all you need to know about what they thought of this cowardly weirdo.

At #41, we have the leader of the Tiny Longnecks from Invasion of the Tinysauruses, Big Daddy, at 7 minutes and 22 seconds of screen time.  Voiced by the late Michael Clarke Duncan (most famous for his role in Green Mile opposite Tom Hanks), many compared him to Topps in that he was an overprotective father who tried extra hard to protect his herd of Tiny Longnecks from the much bigger dinosaurs of the Great Valley right above them.  After Littlefoot's confession and the rockslide that caved their home in, he felt no choice but to leave the Great Valley behind for good, only to run into a duo of Fast Biters.  In the process, he inadvertently led them right into the Great Valley, endangering the lives of all the peaceful plant-eating dinosaurs who lived within.  However, he soon had a change of heart regarding the dinosaurs of the valley, and minutes later, he had his redemption.  With a great battle cry, he personally led his herd right into the battlefield and launched an assault on the Fast Biters, which bought just enough time for the rest of the valley adults to arrive and drive the Fast Biters into retreat.  After making amends with Topps, the Tiny Longnecks were welcomed back into the Great Valley with open arms, and were even invited to take part in the festivities on the following Nibbling Day.  Big Daddy may have been harsh at times, but in the end, he proved his heart was in the right place.

With the list just over halfway done, we're about to get into the top 40!  Stay tuned for ranks 40th through 31st!

24
Ranks 60-51

Ranked at #60 is the leader of the Sharptooth pack from Wisdom of Friends, with 3 minutes and 3 seconds of screen time, making him our first character on this list to breach 3 minutes.  This is the Sharptooth that everyone on this forum likes to call "Best Sharptooth" for some reason. :petrienotamused It's actually crazy that this Sharptooth got roughly double the amount of screen time as his three pack mates, and he has the same weakness that they all have: being vulnerable to the Yellow Bellies' crazy bouncing that is capable of causing tremors and bringing rocks down, and this very weakness proved to be their downfall, as they were lured to a cliff which the Yellow Bellies and the Gang brought down with their bouncing and sent all four Sharpteeth falling to their deaths.  What a stupid way to die.  God, I hate Wisdom of Friends so much.

#59 is the last of the three Sharpteeth from Great Longneck Migration, as the gray one in the pack had the most screen time of the trio, at 3 minutes and 13 seconds.  This is because he appeared more than once, unlike the other two.  He first encountered the Gang after they slept next to him, thinking he was just a big boulder, but they were proven wrong when Cera accidentally woke him up, culminating in a short chase that didn't last long as they quickly found a hiding place.  He was later one of the two Sharpteeth who joined the battle with the Gang and the Longnecks midway through the conflict, and he engaged in a seemingly one-sided battle with Pat, only to be tripped by Cera and Shorty, sending him careening right into his red pack mate who was battling Bron, finishing off this Sharptooth trio once and for all, as they were soon scared away by the eclipse.

#58 is the Plated Sharptooth from Mysterious Island, with 3 minutes and 23 seconds of screen time.  He was living on the island whilst Chomper and his parents were apparently oblivious to him being there.  He found the Gang by tracking down their scent right to their hiding place, and he chased them all over the island until he seemingly had them cornered.  Chomper tried to distract him for a while, but as soon as the beast gave him quite a blow, this drew the ire of his angry parents, resulting in the only Sharptooth vs. Sharptooth battle in the whole series.  The Gang watched the 2-on-1 battle in awe as the Plated Sharptooth, despite being outnumbered, was able to gain the upper hand on both his opponents, and it looked as though he was on his way to victory and set to doom the whole Gang, if not for a well-timed tail swipe by Papa Sharptooth that sent him falling into the Big Water where he eventually drowned, almost taking Chomper with him.  Of all the Sharpteeth in the series, this one was definitely one of the fiercest when it came to combat.

57th place ends up going to Archie, an Archelon whom Littlefoot befriends while trapped in the cave he calls home, with 3 minutes and 35 seconds of screen time in Journey Through the Mists.  Despite his old age, he still had some tricks up his sleeve as he briefly engaged Ichy and Dil, but in the end it was Cera who finished off this particular conflict.  Even though he was initially hostile towards Littlefoot, his inability to scare him due to his lack of teeth made the Longneck see right through him, and he turned out to be a kind old turtle who was happy to give the kids a helping hand on their way to the Land of Mists to find the Night Flowers.

Sticking to Journey Through the Mists, here's a surprise that gave Mumbling a good laugh.  Tickles had more screen time than Archie, at 3 minutes and 52 seconds, and thus takes the #56 spot.  This adorable little guy quickly made friends with Spike, and I really love that cute little moment where he shares a hug with Ducky.  Despite his lack of dialogue, Tickles is so likeable, and he proved to be a helpful companion, especially seen when he saved Petrie from being fed to Dil by Ichy.  I thought it was sad we never saw him again after the 4th film, but he certainly left on a very positive note.

I'm sure many of you are not going to believe this, but the infamous Sharptooth from the original Land Before Time, at 4 minutes and 7 seconds of screen time, ranked all the way back at #55!  Yeah, you probably weren't expecting him to be this low, but since a lot of scenes were cut from the original movie, his screen time definitely suffered because of this.  He may have only been on screen for just over four minutes, but everything we saw him do was utterly terrifying.  Watching him do seemingly supernatural things while engaging in ferocious combat with Littlefoot's mother (ultimately killing her in the process) and viciously go after the Gang in his desperate quest for revenge is so amazing despite his natural evilness.  Just look at all the things he did!  He murdered Littlefoot's mother, destroyed Littlefoot's first tree star to wipe out one of the few living memories of her, and he was all but ready to kill the entire Gang in cold blood to satisfy his need for flesh, blood and vengeance for having one of his eyes slashed!  This makes him, in my opinion, one of the greatest villains in the history of theatrical dinosaur movies, and he deserves praise for leaving such a mark on prehistoric cinema.

#54 is even wilder, though, as Ruby, the Fast Runner who joined the Gang alongside Chomper and became a major character in the TV series, ended up all the way back at #54 with just 4 minutes and 14 seconds of screen time, just edging ahead of the original Sharptooth!  This is because Journey of the Brave was the only movie she appeared in (being the only movie set AFTER the events of the TV series), and even then, she and Chomper had a very small role in the movie.  It really pains me to have to rank Ruby this low, but I said at the beginning of the project that I was NOT including the TV series, only the movies.  As such, Ruby is the only member of the Gang of Seven to end up in the bottom half of the list.

At #53, we have a pair of characters which I had a very hard time tracking down in Invasion of the Tinysauruses, and those are the Tiny Longneck twins, Rocky and Dusty.  I was only able to confirm up to 4 minutes and 33 seconds of screen time for these twins, because many of the scenes with the Tiny Longnecks left them very difficult to properly spot.  Thus, they landed at #53.

In 52nd place, we finally have not only the first immediate family member of the Gang of Seven, but also the first character on the list to appear in more than one film, and this was none other than Chomper's father, who, like Rocky and Dusty, also had 4 minutes and 33 seconds of screen time.  However, I placed him ahead of the Tinysaurus twins because he appeared in two movies while Rocky and Dusty were only in one.  He may be a Sharptooth, but above all else, he's also a father.  In fact, he's so much of a protective father that he will go at great lengths to ensure Chomper's safety, as we saw in both movies he and his mate appeared in.  I can only wonder whatever happened to Ozzy and Strut after they tried to kill Chomper at the end of the second movie, but hopefully Mama and Papa Sharptooth gave them what they deserved.  His moment of unintentional good, however, came in the fifth movie, as it was he who unwittingly saved the Gang by tossing the Plated Sharptooth into the sea, but Chomper ended up going down with him.  He was then met with an extraordinary sight, as Littlefoot jumped his way down to rescue his Sharptooth friend, and this act earned the Gang the admiration of Chomper's grateful parents.  This may have questioned film critics, but it showed that despite the vicious nature of Sharpteeth, there are some who have a good heart because they care about family above everything else.

Just missing the top 50, we have Ducky's siblings in 51st place.  All of Ducky's siblings combined throughout the 14 films ended up with a grand total of 4 minutes and 40 seconds of screen time.  Surprisingly, the most screen time they got in a single film was 1 minute and 4 seconds, which was actually achieved by the newborn Swimmer siblings at the beginning of Journey of the Brave, just one second more than the siblings from Big Freeze.  It's honestly quite sad that they never really became supporting characters at any point during the series, unlike Petrie's siblings in Great Day of the Flyers, and I'm sure this is what drove The Lone Dragon to expand upon Ducky's family in his Swimmer Trials fanfiction, a story I highly recommend to anyone interested in LBT fanfiction.

Up next, we begin delving into the top 50 with ranks 50th through 41st!

25
Ranks 70-61

#70 is the second of the three Sharpteeth from Great Longneck Migration, this one being the red one in the pack, with 2 minutes and 14 seconds of screen time.  This Sharptooth was the first to arrive at the crater where the Longnecks were staying, having been drawn in by the arrival of the Gang.  He could have easily defeated Pat if not for the timely arrival of Bron, but even that didn't stop him just yet.  He and Bron clashed in combat for a few minutes before he was knocked down by his gray pack mate, whom had just been tripped by the combined efforts of Cera and Shorty, essentially killing two birds with one stone.

We have another group of characters from Journey of the Brave coming up, as 69th place ended up going to the Diggers who briefly made Petrie their leader after he was blown into their home by the Sand Cloud.  The Diggers had a combined 2 minutes and 16 seconds of screen time, and I must say they were rather strange characters who somehow managed to make me laugh with their antics during their scenes with Petrie and later with the rest of the Gang (except Littlefoot).  Honestly, to think that they were going to feed Cera to Petrie was just ridiculous.

#68 is another one of Littlefoot's possible relatives, the Old One, with 2 minutes and 18 seconds of screen time in Journey Through the Mists.  The leader of a herd of Longnecks who formerly lived in what became known as the Land of Mists, this Longneck was said to be the wisest of them all, but Littlefoot had his doubts, especially after his grandfather became ill.  We did see for a few seconds that she does have a sympathetic side, as she gives Littlefoot a sad look after telling him that going to the Land of Mists was too dangerous and thus saving his grandfather could prove futile, even if the young Longneck was determined to save him at all costs.  She was definitely harsh on the outside, like many other elderly characters whom have gone through years of experience and hardships, but deep in her heart, she does care.

#67 is this lone Longneck from Journey to Big Water (who went by the name of Diplodocus Mom in the end credits) with 2 minutes and 31 seconds of screen time.  This Longneck (voiced by Grandma Longneck's voice actress, Miriam Flynn) was encountered by accident after Ducky fell into her nest, and she initially greeted them coldly, thinking they were going to harm her eggs, but after seeing how these travelers were just children who got lost after an Earth Shake (as if that sounded so original), she gradually warmed up to them and allowed them to spend the night in her nest, during which she became a happy mother of several freshly-hatched children.  To see her slowly warm up to the Gang so much that she even went as far as to extend guest right to them plus Mo was definitely one of the most heartwarming parts of the 9th movie.

#66 is one of the harshest parents in the entire Great Valley; Hyp's father.  He had 2 minutes and 33 seconds on screen during Time of the Great Giving, which I only counted beginning right after the Gang saved Hyp from a pool of sinking sand.  Seeing him treat his son so coldly made Topps see the error of his ways, and when he finally learned sense, he began his redemption when he stepped in to protect the Gang from a pack of Fast Biters whom had arrived to hunt them all down.  Afterward, he sought to become a better father to Hyp, and in turn Hyp and his two comrades made amends with the Gang, one of the few great moments of the third film.

Speaking of the Fast Biters whom I just mentioned, they rank directly ahead of Hyp's father at #65, with 2 minutes and 35 seconds on screen for the combined pack of four, just two seconds more than him.  Given their nature as fast-running, highly-active meat-eating dinosaurs much like Deinonychus and Velociraptor, these predators were relentless on their assault against a group of at least 13 dinosaurs (including 5 children and 3 teenagers), but it was ultimately the young ones who delivered the final blow when they restored the water supply to the Great Valley.  In the chaos, the Fast Biters were washed away and never seen again.

#64 is the Sailback Sharptooth that ultimately triggered Petrie's bravest act ever in Great Day of the Flyers.  During his standoff against Petrie and Guido (and later, the rest of the Gang), he was on screen for 2 minutes and 41 seconds.  I even measured how long the scene lasted, and between the moment Petrie swoops in to grab Guido and the moment Littlefoot lures him into a trap by having his sail wedged in between two large rocks, this encounter lasted more than three minutes, making it quite a lengthy Sharptooth encounter.  I said before on my review of the 12th film that Petrie's uncharacteristic bravery was on full swing as he faced this very Sharptooth, but it's true.  This long-jawed monster did not go down without a fight, even though he, like many Sharpteeth, didn't have many smart tricks up his sleeve, even having a ticklish jaw as proven by Guido.  That is why this is actually one of my favorite Sharptooth encounters in the whole series.

At #63, we have the Spiketail herd leader from Big Freeze, with 2 minutes and 42 seconds of screen time, having just one second more than the Sailback Sharptooth from the 12th movie.  We didn't see too much of this Spiketail compared to Tippy and his mother, but I can say he really tried his best to lead his herd during the hardships of the Cold Time.  Other than that, I don't really have much of an opinion on this character.

In 62nd place, just three places ahead of the Fast Biters from the 3rd film, we have the Fast Biters from the 11th film, Invasion of the Tinysauruses, with 2 minutes and 44 seconds on screen during the closing stages of the film.  These Fast Biters were inadvertently drawn into the Great Valley by the Tiny Longnecks led by Big Daddy, making this the third and final occasion in the series where Sharpteeth successfully penetrated their way into the Great Valley, and once they were in, they launched an all-out assault on the vulnerable Gang.  Although the combined efforts of Topps, Tria, and even the Tiny Longnecks who marched into the battlefield, led by a reformed Big Daddy, were able to keep them busy for a while, it seemed Topps would be left to fend for his own.  However, these Fast Biters were only stopped once a big group of the strongest dinosaurs in the valley, led by Littlefoot's grandparents, left them vastly outnumbered and forced them into retreat.  Much like the Fast Biters from the third movie, they were utterly relentless in their lust for blood, but as we've seen many times, strength comes in numbers, which these Fast Biters certainly did not have.

#61 is the only named character in the 61-70 range; Elsie.  In Mysterious Island, she was on screen for 2 minutes and 46 seconds, only appearing towards the end of the film when she helped save Chomper and later helped the Gang finally escape the island and took them to a beautiful oasis where their families had temporarily taken residence while the Great Valley was left a barren wasteland.  A good character to get acquainted with once one got to know her, as proven even with the Great Valley adults.  Judging from their dialogue, it would seem she came by to chat with them quite often during the events of Mysterious Island.

We're getting close to the halfway point! :)petrie Stay tuned for ranks 60th through 51st!

26
Ranks 80-71

#80 is the Mountain Sharptooth from Big Freeze, with 1 minute and 26 seconds of screen time.  This is the first Sharptooth on this list who encountered the Gang more than once.  He pursued a lonely Ducky while she was looking for Spike, drawing his attention to Littlefoot, Cera, Petrie and Mr. Thicknose, and on their first encounter it was the kids who knocked him out using a giant snowball.  However, he later returned, and this time it was Mr. Thicknose who delivered the blow by using a fallen tree branch to send him tumbling down the mountain, presumably to his death.

#79 is the first of the hideous-looking Sharpteeth from the absolutely garbage Wisdom of Friends.  The yellow one in the pack had the least screen time of the four at 1 minute and 31 seconds.  I don't really have much to say about these Sharpteeth other than the fact that they looked so ugly that they made the Sharpteeth from the other movies look amazing.

#78 is the so-called Meanest Sharptooth of all, with 1 minute and 33 seconds of screen time in Secret of Saurus Rock, only appearing in flashback stories and dream sequences.  This is the Sharptooth who famously lost to the so-called Lone Dinosaur (implied to be Doc) in a legendary duel that was said to have went on for hours before he scarred Doc's right eye, only for him to be tossed off the cliff by a whip from Doc's tail after he got back up.  I also counted his appearance in Littlefoot's dream where he imagines himself as a hero, and at the end of the movie when Littlefoot portrays his grandfather as the Great Dinosaur.

#77 is our fourth predator in a row, this one being the swamp-dwelling Belly Dragger from the tenth movie, with 1 minute and 37 seconds on screen.  He was first encountered when Littlefoot so nearly got eaten by him, only for the stalker to be stomped on hard by Sue.  He later attacked the Gang after getting so frustrated with waiting, and he came so close to enjoying Petrie as his meal, only for Cera to allow a tree to fall on him, saving the Flyer's life.  I can only imagine what Ducky must have been thinking with that line right at the end ...

And now, after four straight antagonists, we move on to a trio of neutral characters; the Flyer Judges from Great Day of the Flyers ranked at #76.  The trio had a combined 1 minute and 47 seconds of screen time.  Some fans often have negative views on these characters because of how pointless they seemed to be in the long run, and I must say that I didn't really think their singing voices were all that good in "Flip, Flap and Fly."  They were just there, watching Petrie and were astonished when he started having fun being himself.  I often wonder how they would have reacted to witnessing Petrie rescuing Tricia, but that was unfortunately never explored.

Well, back to more Sharpteeth.  At #75, the Red Sharptooth from Wisdom of Friends, with 1 minute and 48 seconds of screen time.  We didn't see this Sharptooth do much aside from briefly chase Ducky and Petrie.  Just another dull filler antagonist for an already-terrible movie.

Oh, wait!  It gets even worse!  We're going from one WoF Sharptooth to another, as the green one in the pack ranks in 74th with just one second more than his red pack mate at 1 minute and 49 seconds.  Just another antagonist who really did next to nothing because they all can't endure the bouncing of Yellow Bellies.

In 73rd is our first character to reach two minutes, as the Spokes Dinosaur who led the herd of Far Walkers in Stone of Cold Fire had exactly two minutes on screen, no more, no less.  He played a prominent role in the meeting at the beginning of the movie when Littlefoot brings up the meteor that landed in Threehorn Peak the night before, but this Far Walker was buying none of it, and even lashed out at the valley leaders at times during the conversation before the Rainbow Faces joined in on all the crazy talk.  He even confides in Topps, saying that the Rainbow Faces are a couple of strange weirdos.

At #72 is the one and only antagonist from Journey to Big Water.  This Sharptooth Swimmer had 2 minutes and 1 second on screen, just barely getting ahead of the Spokes Dinosaur from two movies prior.  We first see him very briefly breach his way into the Great Valley because of the floods and make one attempt and snapping the Gang in his jaws, but Mo quickly drives him away.  He doesn't reappear until much later, when, hungry for revenge, he goes all-in on his lust to have the Gang for lunch, but Mo again stops him and seemingly sacrifices himself to save his friends, only for us to learn that he lured the monster into a trap, and thus we don't see him again afterward.  This Sharptooth was definitely one of the more terrifying ones and was one of the more effective antagonists who really made an impact, but like many other Sharpteeth, he was a one-movie-only character.

#71 is another small group of characters, these being the two Featherhead Sharpteeth from the first half of Journey of the Brave.  I must say that the land in which they live in has some incredible backdrops, particularly that rock arch, which I think was one of the more fascinating hotspot locations in the Land Before Time universe.  Before I get off topic, though, let's go over this duo.  We know these two have an incredible sense of smell, and the Gang using stinkweed to draw them off worked for a while, but once that was gone, these Sharpteeth wasted NO time tracking them down, and it culminated in a rather unoriginal defeat for them in the kids' hands.  We'd already seen them using vines to trip a Sharptooth, and we'd already seen them using various tricks to make them slip and fall down steep hills.  I think the Featherheads deserved better than that.

Coming up on my next post, ranks 70th through 61st!

27
Ranks 90-81

In 90th place, we have the shark-like Swimming Sharptooth from the 5th movie, who had 38 seconds of screen time.  We've now reached our first Sharptooth character, and the first of many.  This Sharptooth appeared in one scene in the 5th film, where he attacked the Gang during their attempted escape from the Mysterious Island and successfully prevented them from leaving the island.  I wouldn't necessarily call him an antagonist because most Sharpteeth are driven by instinct and thus should maybe be considered neutral, but he is considered an antagonist because he DID attempt to eat the Gang while they were extremely vulnerable, so yeah, I guess this is our first antagonist on this list.

At #89, we have another character that I almost didn't include but was added at the last minute, and that was Petrie's Imaginary Friend from Journey to Big Water.  He had 42 seconds of screen time, and really was just there as a cute form of imagination in Petrie's head.  I'll be honest, I thought the scene with just Petrie and his imaginary friend was somewhat adorable, but I guess that's really because Petrie is adorable at times in the sequels.

Going from one Journey to Big Water character to another, we have Mo's Water Kin ranked at #88 with 43 seconds of screen time, only appearing towards the end of the movie when the Gang successfully bring Mo back home in the Big Water.  As I said before, this counts as a group of characters because they're all related to Mo yet NONE of them are named.  Just there to greet Mo and welcome him home, and also help the Gang find a quick way back home to the Great Valley.

#87 is Ali's mother, who was on screen for 48 seconds during Journey Through the Mists.  This is the first character on the list who actually has a credited voice (in this case, Tress MacNeille).  She had a few lines during the movie but only appeared in two scenes (just those that I could confirm she was in).  Again, though, just a minor character, but given that Grandma Longneck mentioned that their herd was related to her, this means she has the least amount of screen time among Littlefoot's relatives.

"HELP!!! I don't wanna be a lone dinosaur anymore!"

#86 is the Sharptooth who only appeared during the climactic final battle in Secret of Saurus Rock with 51 seconds of screen time.  I do apologize for this picture's terrible quality.  I mentioned earlier in the project that the sixth movie had terrible picture quality.  He may look similar to the Meanest Sharptooth who also appears in this movie, but I still had to split them because I'm certain they are different characters.  This Sharptooth teamed up with the Browridge Sharptooth (which I'll get to later) to fight Grandpa Longneck as they tried to get to Littlefoot.  This particular Sharptooth even delivered a nasty, painful blow to Grandpa's underbelly, but Doc stepped in to turn the tables and the Longnecks ultimately prevailed.

Yeah, we're gonna see a lot of Sharpteeth in the bottom half of the list, so you're gonna have to get used to them until we get to the top 50.

At #85 is the Green Sharptooth from Great Longneck Migration.  He had only 54 seconds of screen time, as he, along with his gray pack mate, only joined the battle midway through just when it looked as though all was well.  This Sharptooth ended up briefly engaged in combat with Grandpa Longneck, but Grandma stepped in to knock him down the hill, and he was out for the count after that, whilst the other two lasted longer in the battle than he did.

#84 is another one of Cera's relatives who only appeared in the first movie, and that was her biological mother, who had 57 seconds of screen time.  She appeared in three scenes, and was last seen in the immediate aftermath of the Earth Shake.  There has been a lot of debate as to what happened to her and her children sans Cera, although I personally believe they were led astray by Petrie's uncle Pterano, although that is just speculation.

At #83, we have another character group from Journey to Big Water; the so-called Bumphead Babies.  They had 1 minute and 1 second of screen time, so this is the first character slot to break the one-minute mark.  We see them hatch during the "No One Has to Be Alone" musical number in the second half of the ninth film, and we get a few adorable moments with them immediately warming up to the Gang while they and Mo spent the night at their mother's nesting site.

#82 is the final character to be introduced in the entire Land Before Time film series; the Horned Sharptooth from the latter half of Journey of the Brave.  He had 1 minute and 8 seconds on screen.  His pursuit of the Gang upon their encounter only lasted 30 seconds before they took cover and were later rescued from the situation by Etta.  He later showed up while the search party led by Chomper were nearby, and Wild Arms so nearly got his attention with his cowardly whimpering, only for him to be distracted by a small group of Ornithomimus.  That was the last we saw of the last antagonist in the whole series.

#81 is going to be wild one.  Rooter, the character who comforted Littlefoot in the aftermath of his mother's death in the first movie, had just 1 minute and 13 seconds of screen time, and thus he landed all the way back at #81!  Just 73 seconds of visible screen time was all it took for him to deliver his powerful message about the great Circle of Life to both Littlefoot and the audience in general.  I'm sure many of you must be shocked to see this character this far down on the list, but here sits Rooter in 81st place. :opetrie

We've reached another multiple of ten.  I'll have to step away for a while because I need to go to the store.  Stay tuned this afternoon for my next post on ranks 80th through 71st!

Okay, everyone!  I've made the pics for the final ranking posts!  Now, since there are so many characters and I'm not sure how many pics I can put in one post because I don't fully understand the possible limitations of Imgur, I am going to limit myself to ten per post, so every time we hit a multiple of ten, I'll stop the post and divide them by tens, so ranks 51-60 or 61-70 and so on.

Throughout the 14 films, I ended up ranking a grand total of 93 different characters! :petrieooohh  Most of them are single characters, but there are a few that are groups, such as unnamed siblings of the main characters, predator duos, a whole unnamed family belonging to Mo, and much more.

As such the posts will be structured like this ...

Ranks 93-91
Ranks 90-81
Ranks 80-71
Ranks 70-61
Ranks 60-51
Ranks 50-41
Ranks 40-31
Ranks 30-21

Ranks 10-4
The Top 3

I know.  This may sound like it could take a long time to post, but bear with me.  I can say that I'm glad that I kept track of the character count after each movie so that I knew what I'd be getting myself into once the project's conclusion approached.  I will probably do one post per hour due to the large number of characters.

Many of you have told me you're so curious to see where a number of these characters ended up, and I can't wait to see your reactions to where you saw your potential favorite character!

Now, let's look at these 93 Land Before Time characters and see where they all ranked for screen time! :)petrie

Ranks 93-91

At #93, the character, or should I say "characters" with the least amount of screen time in the entire Land Before Time film series, we have Cera's siblings from the original movie with fourteen seconds.  Yeah, they only appeared during Cera's hatching scene at the beginning of the first film.  Even more shockingly, we only ever see them as infant hatchlings.  Believe me, I looked deeper into some later scenes, namely the scene where Topps has his infamous "Threehorns never play with Longnecks!" line, and even the Earth Shake.  The siblings NEVER appeared again after we saw Cera hatch, and honestly I was sure they'd probably appear in more scenes, but that was it.  Thus, they sit in 93rd and last among LBT movie characters for screen time.

#92 is Mrs. Maia, who only made a small appearance in Secret of Saurus Rock, in which she was visibly on screen for 24 seconds.  All we saw her do was fling Ducky out of her nest for disturbing her while all she was really trying to do was search for the missing Threehorn twins.  Yeah, I don't really have anything good to say about this character.  She was just ... there, and showed that she doesn't like being disturbed; the complete opposite of a certain Longneck whom we meet in the 9th film.

At #91, we have Sue's Boyfriend, who appeared in two different scenes during The Great Longneck Migration.  He had a total of 35 seconds of screen time throughout those two scenes.  Funnily enough, I almost didn't include this character because of the fact that his voice actor was uncredited, but in the end I chose to add him to the GLM list, and thus he sits at #91.

So now, we've already reached a multiple of ten.  Stay tuned for my next post, where we look at ranks 81st through 90th.

29
This is it!  All 14 films completed!  I'm sure many of you are excited to see where all the characters stacked up for screen time throughout the 14 films! :)petrie

Before I can do that, though, we must first take a look at the results for the final movie!

The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave

Mama Flyer continues her trend of being among the least important characters, taking last place for the second time in a row, not beating a single character for the rest of the series after Great Day of the Flyers where she had her most prominent appearance.  This is just a low blow for her. :(petrie

We were certainly expecting some mixed results in this movie, and honestly, I couldn't predict where ANYONE was going to end up (except the top two, of course).  It is often said that the Sharpteeth in this movie deserved more screen time because there should have been room for more action, and these numbers show just that, but I guess the filmmakers wanted to keep the flow of the film going and not slow it down.  It was a good decision, but one that really cast a shadow on what could have been, much like what happened to the first movie.

Chomper made it into the top ten, but Ruby did not.  They both just barely edged out Bron, but certain characters were more prominent than the two kids who joined the Gang in the TV series.  Honestly, it's very sad the Sharptooth and Fast Runner duo ended up this low.  They deserved a lot more, considering fans were anticipating more to their backstory, but instead we only saw them accompany Grandpa Longneck and Topps' search party, and they really played next to no purpose in the film other than being the ones to indicate that their friends had left the Great Valley.  If there is ever a 15th film, Chomper and Ruby should really be put in the spotlight a lot more.  These numbers, I must confess, have left me very disappointed. :areyouserious :RubyAngry

Etta's numbers were much bigger than I anticipated.  Her role in the second half of the movie really brightened up the otherwise gloomy mood that had resulted from Littlefoot's breakup with the Gang and the subsequent sandstorm.  As much as I despise country music, her voice actress Reba McEntire did an incredible job bringing life into this Flyer, and she is probably one of the best one-off guest characters in the series.  She also delivered a double whammy with the series' final musical number, as McEntire not only sings the version sung by Etta, but also the version in the ending credits.  She just dominated the latter half of the film and definitely deserves my praise.

Surprise, surprise!  Ducky does not win any medals following Great Longneck Migration. :duckysad To think that the lovable Swimmer only scored ONE top 3 result AFTER her win in Big Freeze is just baffling.  It would appear that a certain Flyer was on such a massive lust for screen time that he simply couldn't be stopped anymore. :petrieLOL

And now, here are the top 3 for the final movie ...

You would think that Petrie would settle down after winning big time in Great Day of the Flyers, but OH NO!  He just had to keep going and going! :)petrie He was helped in this film by his scenes with the Diggers, earning him precious seconds worth of screen time that allowed him to keep ahead of Ducky and Spike.  This effort was enough to reward him his fourth medal in a row (his third Bronze in the last four movies)!  I never would have thought that Petrie would have such a fantastic run late in the series, but honestly we must give him credit.  This shows how much he's changed throughout the franchise.  For most of the first half, he was just there, barely doing anything and just allowing others to take bundles of screen time away from him, but after the 10th film he had had enough and took matters into his own wings.  He proceeded to beat Ducky and stand on the podium in EVERY single film that followed, including a much-deserved Gold for his heroic deeds in Great Day of the Flyers!  I think Petrie deserves a round of applause for his mind-blowing late series run!

Cera successfully ranked in the top three in all 14 films.  Yet despite this, she did not win a single Gold medal, losing to Littlefoot in all but one movie, and in the one film where she did beat him, she was bested by Petrie. She was only ever in either 2nd place or 3rd place. :ceramad The Threehorn ended up with her eighth Silver medal in this installment, and it's pretty obvious why she easily beat everyone who wasn't Littlefoot.  We see the two clash from time to time, culminating in a heated argument that results in Littlefoot leaving the group in anger.  It was a lot tamer compared to the first movie where they got into a physical altercation in which Cera won and got Littlefoot banished from the group, but even so, this breakup in the last movie was still a nasty one.  Cera was simply a character who was never meant to compete for most screen time in a movie, and she will have to accept the fact that she will forever be in Littlefoot's shadow. :littlefoot:) :ceramad

And, of course, Littlefoot decimates the competition to win his twelfth Gold medal, but not only did he make it 12 Golds out of 14, he set a NEW RECORD!!!  For the first and only time in the entire series, a character breached the 35-minute barrier, smashing his own record of 34:36 from the first movie, meaning it took more than 27 years for that record to be broken!  The original five main characters got so much screen time in this movie that I knew they would all surpass 20 minutes, making this the third film in the series where that has happened, but Littlefoot was just on a whole new level, reaching previously uncharted territory with his screen time in this movie as he sets out to rescue his father from a volcano. The little Longneck was just everywhere it seemed, and thus he left everyone in the dust on his way to his twelfth and final Gold medal. :littlefoot:)

With all 14 films done, I will now get to work on preparing for the posts regarding the final overall results for every character in the series!  I must ask that you relax, though, as there were so many characters that it may take a while for me to get them all ready for the final posts.  Tune in this weekend to see the final results of the project! :)petrie

My God!  This was just pure insanity!  The number of animation errors and the absolute stupidity of the Yellow Bellies!  I so nearly lost my sanity doing this one!  I could bash on this all day if I could!

But no, seriously I hate this film so much!

But guess what?  I survived!  I survived the worst film in the LBT series without losing my mind!  Having to watch some scenes up to 12 times was just unbearable, but the nightmare is finally over!

The Land Before Time XIII: The Wisdom of Friends

Mama Flyer went from being one of the more prominent adults in Great Day of the Flyers to being the least prominent character in Wisdom of Friends, being the only character who didn't even make it to 30 seconds. :(petrie

Voice actors were leaving left and right, including Kenneth Mars and Tress MacNeille, and thus the screen time for the valley adults suffered tremendously.  Kenneth Mars had been forced to retire after being diagnosed with what would ultimately be terminal cancer.  All the lines that could have been given to him were handed over to Miriam Flynn (Grandma Longneck) instead.  As a result, Grandma Longneck smashed everyone who wasn't a Gang member or Yellow Belly, but still failed to reach the five-minute mark.

It regrets me to say this, but one of the Yellow Bellies actually defeated one of the Gang members, as Loofah (the leader of the Yellow Bellies) just managed to beat Spike to take a place in the top five.  Thank the Bright Circle none of them made the top three, though ...

My goodness!  Petrie is on a roll!  Whoever would have thought that the Flyer would win three medals in a row!? :)petrie He surprised me big-time by surpassing the 20-minute mark to secure his second Bronze!  He's probably gotten very confident after his Great Day of the Flyers victory!

Cera's Gold medal drought continues, as she is forced to settle for her seventh Silver.  I knew from the start that she'd be in the top three, and honestly, I also knew that she'd have no chance at going for Gold. :cerasus

After shockingly failing to place in the top three in Great Day of the Flyers, Littlefoot performs another monstrous comeback, beating Cera by nearly eight and a half minutes to win his eleventh Gold medal. :)littlefoot This was yet another pathetically predictable Gold by Littlefoot, to be honest.

So now that the worst LBT movie is out of the way, we've got just one more to go!  Get ready for the grand finale of this project (aside from the eventual reveal of the full series' screen time results), coming up probably this weekend.  For the first and only time in this project, we will have the full Gang of Seven in the fold in The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave!

Character Showcase / Re: The Land Before Time 12 Showcase - February 2023
« on: February 05, 2023, 09:27:07 PM »
I often try to refrain from saying this is one of my favorite sequels because of me being a biased Petrie fan, and I know some on the forum will disagree with me on this, but this film really showed us a side to Petrie we had never seen before, and this inspired an abundance of my LBT fanfics regarding the Flyer's family.

When we first met Petrie, he was a cowardly, flightless nobody whose attempt at being the comic relief of the first movie miserably annoyed film critics, becoming one of the most hated characters of the original movie.  He was afraid of everything, even flying, and it took a big breath from Sharptooth to finally get him in the air for the first time in his life.  The sequels slowly improved his character over the years, turning him into a cute, occasionally hilarious Flyer who could finally make children laugh at his antics.  All the while, he remained in the shadow of his friends, being the smallest one in the group and incapable of being an effective leader or being the one to think the situation through like Littlefoot (or occasionally Cera) could.  Sure, one of the sequels gave him an "evil" uncle who became a big favorite and earned Petrie more fans and doubters, but he just didn't seem like a character who could truly shine.

However, Great Day of the Flyers finally brought Petrie out of his friends' shadows and showed us what he is truly capable of.

First off, we finally get our first true glimpse into his family life (aside from his uncle), and like Stone of Cold Fire, it is not pretty.  The relationship he has with his siblings has become so strained that the family has almost reached its second breaking point (after what happened to Pterano), but his mother loves him just the way he is despite his many flaws because he is her flesh and blood and would do anything to cheer him up.

As soon as Guido begins to bring out the best in Petrie, he is finally beginning to show the potential we've been waiting to see from him for years.  Then, that very night, when Guido started sleep-walking and the Gang followed him out of the valley whilst discovering that he is a sleep flyer, Petrie did something he would NEVER have done when we first met this young Flyer.  When Littlefoot suggested that he stay in the Great Valley and rest up for the Day of the Flyers, Petrie (in an act previously uncharacteristic of him) overruled him and took off after Guido.

In my opinion, this screenshot tells everything you need to know about Petrie's change of character in comparison to his earlier years.  The Petrie from the original movie and the early sequels would have been nothing like this.  He was about to put himself in harm's way just to save his newest friend whom had coached him during his practice sessions.  He had just taken over the lead on this rescue mission from Littlefoot.  He knew what he was about to get himself into.  He knew what the repercussions were.  He knew his friends were miles behind him and wouldn't be able to step in to help until much later.  And yet, when he got right in the face of that Sailback Sharptooth, he didn't have a characteristic flinch nor show even the slightest hint of fear.  He didn't care about anything in that moment besides saving Guido.  This was pure bravery.  This was the kind of bravery we usually only saw from Littlefoot, and sometimes Cera.

Then, once the Day of the Flyers was underway, he finally gathered the courage to stand up to his siblings and be himself (perhaps one of the biggest lessons of the film), and his siblings finally accept his uniqueness and flying style, impressing everyone in the Great Valley.

And finally, to cap it all off for Petrie, he again showed his newfound bravery when, while in the midst of the Day of the Flyers, he willingly abandons the flying test, ignoring the cries of his siblings to finish the test lest everything fall apart, and he steps in to help Guido rescue the infant Tricia from falling down a dangerous waterfall that would have certainly killed her, knowing that the precious, innocent life of a cute, newborn hatchling was much more important than a flying test, a sentiment which his mother later agreed with.  Only now do Petrie's siblings see for themselves just how brave he has become, and seeing him struggle with Tricia's heavier weight, they soar in to help their brother save the day.  Petrie proved himself a hero that day and even earned the admiration of Topps for saving his daughter's life, which as we all know, is very rare.

Petrie was, without a doubt, a changed character in this movie.  He finally stepped out of his comfort zone and became not just an admirable Flyer, but he ultimately became a hero.  Even if we wouldn't see this level of bravery from him again, this was a new side to him that I immensely enjoyed seeing the first time I watched this installment. :)petrie

And let me just say that Tricia is such an adorable character.  Every time she was on screen, she was the cutest sight in the valley.  It was really heartwarming to see the normally gruff Cera slowly warm up to her new baby sister after feeling as though she was being ignored by her father and stepmother because of Tricia.  The added touch of ending this story arc with Tricia speaking her first word (Cera's name) was the icing on the cake for the Threehorn subplot of this film. :cerasmug

The main plot and subplot even came full circle, as Tricia, of course, inadvertently interfered in the Day of the Flyers by falling into the fast-flowing river that led straight to a huge waterfall.  Her inability to swim (due to her being a baby), cries for help and Guido's feeble attempts at saving her caught Petrie's attention right in the middle of the Great Valley's flying spectacle, and the young Flyer sprang right into action to save the day.

Many don't consider this to be one of the best sequels, but personally I love this film because it really gives great insights into Petrie's character, and you all know how I feel about that.  Simply the fact that Petrie is my favorite character brought this movie high up for me. :)petrie

This one I managed to nail quickly because a few of these were done weeks ago during the early stages of the project.  This was one of the big ones for me, and the rest of you made it clear that this would be the one to keep an eye on.

BTW, before I bring the results up for the 12th film, I want to thank you all for your kind words regarding this project. :)petrie This has been a massive undertaking, and I'm happy to see so many of you interested in this!  I know this was conceived as an idea just for fun, but given how time-consuming it can be, it's no easy task.  I'm even ecstatic to see that this project made the front page for the forum this month!  It shows that I've succeeded in my intended goal of building a productive start to 2023 after the Stone of Cold Fire voiceover project faded into obscurity.

Fittingly, the showcase for Great Day of the Flyers popped up just as I started working on this one!  Thank you all for your support, and keep it going!  I'll especially need the good luck considering what the next film is ...

Now, here are the results for the 12th movie!

The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers

If there's one thing we can notice immediately, from this point on, the movies will be in widescreen, as the series had just made the transition from fullscreen to HD widescreen.

I was honestly surprised that neither Mama Swimmer nor Grandma Longneck ended up in last place, even though neither of them had dialogue while Mr. Clubtail did (in TWO scenes).  They just did a better job at looming in the background than he did.

Big shocker: Mama Flyer did NOT make the top ten.  I thought for sure she'd get into the top ten, but she ended up with much smaller numbers than I anticipated, and thus Tricia exceeding five minutes effectively ruined any chance she had of getting into the top ten.  Nevertheless, Mama Flyer did score a personal best in both screen time and rank, as she previously ranked no better than 13th (which she did in Journey to Big Water).

Topps and Tria ended up in a tie (quite fittingly).  I placed Topps above Tria, though, because he was in more scenes (even if a few of them only lasted a few seconds or so).

As we expected, Petrie's siblings do indeed finally avoid last place.  Even better, they broke the ten-minute mark and ranked at #7.

Ducky and Spike were mysteriously absent from the final scene of the movie.  The last time we see them is when the Gang start running after Tricia after hearing her cries for help.  As such, their screen time numbers suffered in comparison to the rest of the Gang, and Ducky ended up with her new personal worst film rank at #5, her first time outside the top 4.

EXTRA big shocker: Littlefoot did NOT make the top three!  :littlefootscared  We have just seen something which I think none of us saw coming.  Not only does Littlefoot fail to reach the 20-minute mark, he ends up a personal worst #4, and to make matters even worse for him, he even lost to Cera! :cerasmug :littlefootscared

Oh, how the mighty have fallen ...

Yet another big shocker: although Cera finally defeated Littlefoot, she has suffered her second loss to a one-off guest character.  The Threehorn could only settle for her sixth Bronze medal, whilst Guido achieved what Ali pulled off in the 4th film.  He built up a 43-second margin over Cera right at the end to win the Silver in his one-and-only movie appearance!  :feelsgoodman :ceramad

Even though Cera was a secondary focus character due to her getting a newly-born sister, her defeat by Guido was really due to the slow-paced scenes of the Gang following a sleep-walking Guido during the third quarter of the movie.  His time on screen during his sleep-flying and his run-in with the Sailback Sharptooth also boosted his numbers so much so that Cera could not keep ahead of him.

And, of course, the moment that EVERYONE saw coming; Petrie is a Gold medal winner! :)petrie  But wait, it gets even better!  He not only won the Gold, but he pulled off something that even Ducky wasn't able to do while beating Littlefoot in the 8th movie.  He ended up winning by a margin of more than five minutes!  He practically delved into Littlefoot territory with his screen time and showed us why this was truly a Petrie film.  I now have proof why Great Day of the Flyers deserves its name.

We even saw Petrie do something he NEVER would have done at the beginning of the series, which only further boosted his screen time.  He showed true bravery (previously uncharacteristic of him) by rescuing Guido from the Sailback Sharptooth, initially unaided as he led the rescue effort before his friends followed him in.  He did it again when he willingly abandoned his flying test to help Guido rescue the newborn Tricia from certain death.  He did both of these heroic acts despite knowing full well what the potential repercussions were, shown when he overruled Littlefoot's suggestion of staying in the Great Valley and resting up for the Day of the Flyers, and he even ignored his siblings' frantic worries that they had to finish their flying test or else everything could fall apart, knowing that the precious life of a newborn hatchling was far more important.  Honestly, that is just so original for him.  Petrie is a BIG winner in this one with superstar screen time numbers! :)petrie

We now have three different characters whom have won a Gold medal, as Petrie joins ten-time winner Littlefoot and Big Freeze winner Ducky.  I'm fairly certain, though, that chances of that list growing are probably next to nothing.  Meanwhile, Cera is the ONLY remaining character to have placed in the top three in EVERY film thus far.  She now takes over the lead in total medals won, winning 12 medals in a row whilst Littlefoot stays at 11.  Despite this, Cera still has NO Gold medals, and you can imagine this is beginning to drive her insane. :ceramad

Up next, I shall spend the next few days torturing myself with the worst film in the entire series; The Land Before Time XIII: The Wisdom of Friends.  Uh, ... wish me luck. :opetrie

33
Are Rocky and Dusty listed as the same character because there was not a single frame where they were separated? :D

I couldn't really make up my mind on those, but knowing that they were twins, I decided to give them the same treatment as Dinah and Dana from the sixth movie.

34
This one was just pure awful.  I had such a hard time tracking down certain Tiny Longneck characters, especially the twins Rocky and Dusty.  Mama Swimmer was also very difficult to track down during the Creepy Crawlies musical number.  Those numbers are thus composed just from frames in which I can CONFIRM they were in.

The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses

We have a new record for lowest screen time for any character in any film, as Ducky's siblings were on screen for just two seconds, only appearing in two shots where an exhausted Ducky and Spike return home after visiting the Tiny Longnecks.

Quite bizarrely, a number of characters ended up with surprisingly lower numbers than I expected.  I wasn't very surprised to see the Threehorns pretty high up.

Topps, for the first and possibly only time in the series, has the most screen time outside the Gang, coming in at a personal best #6.  We can definitely see how the film put a big spotlight on the Threehorn family, and as we know, they will do it again in the next movie.

For once, we have a film where #5 isn't Petrie!  Having placed at #5 in five of the previous six movies, it's very refreshing to see the Flyer in a different position!  In this case, Ducky and Spike were the two who fell by the wayside.

And now, the top three!

Well, well, Petrie ended up taking his second medal! :)petrie The Flyer ended up stealing a couple scenes during the first half of the movie, particularly from Ducky and Spike, and this allowed him to take the Bronze.  As I mentioned, this is the first time since Stone of Cold Fire that Petrie isn't #5, and I'm sure you all know he is poised to post BIG numbers in the next movie. :)petrie

Cera was without question the one destined for Silver.  She was the main focus of the subplot, as we see her become jealous of Tria "stealing" a lot of time away from her father.  Cera now has six Silver medals (and her second in a row), and she is still the only character to win the Silver more than once.

Littlefoot built up yet another considerable margin, having seven minutes more screen time than Cera.  The Longneck takes his third Gold in a row, performing his third hat trick, and he now has a total of ten Gold medals. :)littlefoot

Up next, Petrie searches for his BIG moment in the Bright Circle, whilst his siblings look to finally avoid last place in The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers!

35
Well, here we are in the final five films!  I can definitely feel that finish line coming up in a few more weeks!

The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration

Sue's Boyfriend and Bron's flashbacks with his deceased mate from the first movie were both added at the last minute after I initially considered not including them.  This was because the voice for Sue's boyfriend was not credited, and Littlefoot's mother played no part in any of the sequels due to her death in the original film.  However, I decided to include them because I thought it would be too cold to exclude them.

We actually have a movie where Topps is on screen for less than a minute (not counting the 4th film, where he was completely absent)!  He only appeared in one scene, and the only thing we see him do is sleep (and cheer for Littlefoot in Cera's dream).

The Sharptooth Pack was split into three because combining them like the Fandom did would have been utterly ridiculous, so they are divided into three slots.

Bron amazingly got JUST enough screen time to breach the ten-minute mark.  This slotted him in between Littlefoot's grandparents at a respectable #7.

Petrie has unfortunately been gaining a habit of ranking #5, which he has now done in FIVE of the last six films.  Also, he has now lost to Spike five times (this time, by only ten seconds).  Their battle for fourth place on the overall series rankings is nowhere near over, even though we still have Great Day of the Flyers eventually coming up.

And now, the top three!

It appears we have made a return to seeing our most common combination of characters make the top three.  Ducky was able to easily burst ahead of Petrie and Spike to win her fourth Bronze medal.

Cera had a slightly bigger abundance of screen time than Ducky as she took over leadership of the Gang in Littlefoot's absence, ensuring her fifth Silver medal (her first since Secret of Saurus Rock).

As for Littlefoot, he again had no competition.  It was known from the beginning that this film would be an easy Gold for Littlefoot because we once again have a prominent Longneck theme and plot.  This is the sixth time that Littlefoot surpassed the half-hour mark, and he now has nine Golds out of ten films.

Now we begin to delve into questionable territory with the remaining films, beginning with The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses.

36
Took me a couple days, but here are the results for the ninth movie!

The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water

Petrie's siblings continue their trend of being in last place for screen time in EVERY film they've appeared in thus far!  It appears we're not gonna see them come out of their shadow until the 12th movie.

I hesitated in adding Petrie's imaginary friend into the mix, but I decided to go for it after seeing that he'd clearly have more screen time than the sibling groups, so here he sits in 16th on this list.

We saw so little of the supporting characters in this movie that NOBODY made it to 5 minutes besides the Gang and Mo.  Once the kids were off to the Big Water, everyone else was essentially out of the picture after that (except for two scenes).

I'll be honest, I was expecting Petrie to have a shot at a medal for this one, considering he had a scene of nearly two minutes all to himself, but he wound up taking last place among the Gang once more (which greatly disappointed me), mainly because of a certain surprise I'm about to reveal ...

Here are the top three, and get ready for a MAJOR surprise ...

Yes! There was no way this should have happened, but Spike beat Cera and took the Silver!  :spikeblush :ceramad

I have no idea how this happened, but it seemed the Spiketail managed to just throw himself into as many frames as possible, and he ends up doing something I was NOT expecting him to do at ANY point during the film series!  This now means that all five Gang members have won at least one Silver medal!

As for Littlefoot, it seems that he couldn't stand a certain someone giving him hell over his defeat by Ducky in the previous film, so he decided he was going to get the best form of revenge possible.  He DESTROYED the entire field by miles to win his eighth Gold medal.

Oh, but wait!  That wasn't enough for Littlefoot!  He had to kick it up a notch!  He was so hellbent on reclaiming his pedestal that he did more than just obliterate the competition.  He went so far as to come within ONE SECOND of beating his own record of 34:36 from the original movie!  We so nearly ended up with a new series record for screen time right here!  His screen time almost tripled Mo's, for crying out loud!

So now that Littlefoot is back on top, we're about to get ready to see his long lost father come into the picture in The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration.

37
So, here we are, ready to kick off the second half of the film series!  I'm sure many of you were anticipating surprises in this film, and I ended up finding quite a number of them, but before we get to the top three, we have to look at everybody else first ...

The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze

Right away, shockers are out in the open.  For the second time in a row, the main focus family had a pair of siblings that ended up in LAST PLACE for screen time!  This seems to be becoming an unfortunate trend.

What's even more jarring is that Tippy actually got LESS screen time than his mother, but by just two seconds!  This might be the only time in the entire series where a child character has less screen time than his or her own parent.

Yes, even I went into this thinking that Spike might be a medal contender, but in the end he was NOT EVEN CLOSE!  This was because the Spiketails got very little screen time in the second half of the movie.  A majority of Spike's screen time was actually in the first half, but by the time he left the Great Valley, he only got about 5 minutes on screen for the rest of the movie, and thus he shockingly failed to even reach the top five.

Mr. Thicknose made a big impact during the second half of the film, and that included screen time, where he even managed to take down Petrie by just six seconds to take a stunning 4th place.

And now, the top three!

What's this? Oh! OH! OH MY GOODNESS ME!  Littlefoot is finally defeated! :littlefootscared

Then again, many of you came here anticipating that Ducky would be a serious contender, and now I can officially prove that Ducky did indeed get more screen time than anyone else in LBT 8, including Littlefoot!  Ducky has the honor of being the one to shatter Littlefoot's undefeated record!  The lovable Swimmer has her Gold medal, and she can now smile bigger than ever with her moment of glory! :duckyhappy

Meanwhile, as Littlefoot's streak of seven consecutive Golds comes to an end, Cera was the only other character to reach 20 minutes and easily wins her fourth Bronze.  Nobody else really came close to consideration for the 20-minute mark in this movie.

Now that we at long last have our second different character to clinch a Gold medal, we can have a little more fun with this project as we swim under the sea in The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water!

38
Ladies and gentlemen, we have officially reached the halfway point of the film series! :)petrie

So, let's see how everyone fared in this movie to wrap up the first half ...

The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire

Petrie's siblings are AGAIN in last place despite the fact that TWO of their relatives are prominent characters in this movie.  It honestly seems that they can just never avoid last place.

The Spokes Dinosaur counted because he was included in the end credits (voiced by Jeff Bennett) and was the most prominent Far Walker in the meeting at the beginning of the film.

For the first time since the first movie, Topps has come out on top over both of Littlefoot's grandparents.  His part in the meetings was apparently bigger than I remembered.

The big shock here?  Pterano actually beat one of the Gang members!  He topped Spike by just eight seconds to win a place in the top 5 for his only appearance in the series! :PteranoPlotting :spikenotamused

I'm sure some of you were thinking that Ducky was going to make the top 3.  It seemed reasonable to believe so, given that her kidnapping and subsequent escape from the Flyers boosted her screen time quite a bit, but not enough. :duckysad

And now, here are the top three!

Honestly, 2nd through 6th places all felt rather unpredictable for me, but in the end, some of my predictions ended up being correct.

Cera takes her third Bronze, again beating Ducky by less than a minute.  However, she ended up being no match for the top two ...

YES!  Petrie finally win medal! :)petrie It took seven films for him to pull it off, but thanks largely to his uncle Pterano coming into the picture, Petrie comes back from an 0-6 record to finally win his first medal!  Even better, he went even further by toppling the 20-minute mark to take the Silver!

Despite Petrie's valiant efforts, though, Littlefoot still tops everybody to win his seventh Gold in a row, sweeping all seven Golds for the first half of the film series.  His margin of victory was only four minutes, and it seemed that Petrie looked like a threat to challenge for the Gold, but Littlefoot was more prominent, being the one who saw the Stone of Cold Fire crash into Threehorn Peak.  That, along with the opening meeting and his conversation with the Rainbow Faces at the end ultimately ensured that he remained unchallenged for the top spot.  Thus, Littlefoot is perfect for the first half of the series.

With halftime now upon us, it's time to delve into the second half, beginning with The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze!

39
And so, we've reached the end of an era, as following Secret of Saurus Rock, the LBT film series will make the transition from traditional hand-drawn animation to digital ink and paint from Stone of Cold Fire onward.

The horrible picture quality of this film made it almost unbearable to watch, and it also wasn't helped that this is one of my least favorite LBT films, but I endured it and gathered up the numbers.

The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock

Yeah, Mama Flyer had 19 seconds of screen time ... without a single closeup shot of her.  Even small characters like her couldn't escape my eyes despite this movie's terrible video quality.

I was sorta stunned that Topps ranked lower than I thought he would, but then again this was kind of a Longneck-themed movie.  The Threehorns were pretty much the secondary focus in this case, and Topps' role ended up being smaller than I remembered.

Sure enough, the annoying twins got the most screen time outside the Gang, as they have a big focus during the second quarter of the film where they absent-mindedly run away to Saurus Rock.

Spike has beaten Petrie again! :SmugSpike :opetrie This is the third time in a row that the Spiketail has beaten the Flyer for screen time!  Again, this was not expected.

And now, here are the top three.

Ducky receives a warm welcome back into the top three with her third Bronze after missing out in both the fourth and fifth installments.  :duckyhappy  However, she almost didn't make it, as she only ended up beating Spike by just five seconds!  Spike was that close to what would have been his second straight Bronze.

I knew Cera was going to be the runner-up without question.  The film essentially made her the secondary focus by adding the twins into the fold.  That makes it 4 Silvers out of 6 films for the Threehorn.

However, Littlefoot remains untouchable.  He again smashes everyone so easily and topples the half hour mark for his sixth Gold in succession, making it a double hat trick.  There was no doubt he'd easily destroy the competition in this one, though.  I knew from the beginning that he'd take an easy Gold.

So now, there's just one problem left ...

Poor Petrie has now gone 0 for 6 in the medal count, and even worse, after Spike beat him three times in a row, the Flyer has now fallen to 5th place on the overall leaderboard behind Spike, meaning Petrie is the least relevant member of the Gang.  :(petrie

However, ... it appears the producers had taken notice of this, and may be looking to remedy this with a sinister plot for the next film ...

Coming up next, Petrie may finally have his first true chance to take a medal in The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire!

Okay, um, ... I was wrong to predict that things would go back to normal in this film ...

The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island

Petrie's siblings are finally back in the picture with their first appearance since the end of the first movie, but it didn't mean much as they ended up getting less screen time than even a Swimming Sharptooth!

As expected, Chomper did indeed end up having the most screen time outside the Gang with his triumphant return, and this may be as high as he's going to get.  We're not going to see him again until the 14th and last film, and chances are he may not get #6 for that installment.

Getting the Gang's numbers seemed to take an eternity because we spend almost the entire film focused on the five of them together as they get marooned on a dangerous island.

As we can see, all five members of the Gang exceeded 20 minutes of screen time for the first time.  However, 3rd, 4th and 5th may end up being quite jarring.  Even I did not see this coming at all ...

This was so unbelievable that I had to make sure I wasn't going insane, but Spike unexpectedly ended up taking the Bronze for this movie!  There were certain scenes that simply didn't include Ducky and Petrie because of them being so tiny that either the animators just didn't include them or they got obscured by their bigger friends.  This was ultimately their downfall for their shot at a top three place for this film.

Cera has reclaimed the Silver after missing out to Ali in the previous film, but Littlefoot ended up with over half an hour of screen time once more and takes his fifth Gold in a row, keeping his perfect record.

With Spike having won a Bronze, this leaves Petrie as the last remaining Gang member to have not yet won a single medal.  Poor Petrie.  Poor, poor Petrie.  It seems they found nothing for Petrie to do in these earlier sequels, and thus he ended up with less screen time than Spike for the second time in a row and is almost the least relevant of the main characters at this point.  As we know, though, he does have a focus film coming up pretty soon ...

Up next, one of the lesser films in the series, in my personal opinion; The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock.
