Hmm, ... it appears we may have a temporary change in the pecking order with this film ...
The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists

Um, yeah, this was quite shocking for me, but Spike ended up having more screen time than Petrie in this movie, and furthermore, Petrie has the unfortunate distinction of being the first Gang member to fall out of the top five for screen time in a movie.  :opetrie That said, though, in all fairness, Spike did have a big highlight right at the end where he spoke his first word and then proceeded to deliver the final blow to Ichy and Dil.  :spikeblush He really had a great moment here, but as we know he'll have to wait another four movies before his true spotlight comes.

Aside from Littlefoot's grandparents, the Gang's other families were absent from this film entirely, so this one felt relatively empty compared to the previous films.  Grandma Longneck gets more screen time than her mate this time around because of Grandpa being ill for most of the film.

And now, the top three, and I'm sure this may come as a BIG surprise ...

Cera only just barely got into the top three, beating Ducky by only seven seconds.  Cera thus wins her second Bronze while Ducky falls out of the top three for the first time. It seems the two girls are really going at each other in their battle for second place on the overall leaderboard.

However, the BIG one here is Ali.  She really had the potential to be an excellent guest character, and the filmmakers made sure to do just that, giving her so much screen time that even Cera and Ducky were not able to keep up with her.  As such, Ali wins the Silver in her first and only appearance.

Littlefoot seemed to be almost everywhere once again, and thus he takes his fourth Gold in a row by a margin of almost ten minutes.  It only seems fitting that we have two Longnecks in the top two positions for this film, but I'm sure things will go right back to normal in the next one.

Stay tuned as we await Chomper's return in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island!

Man, this one was an absolute nightmare, specifically for certain background characters that seemed to just be a bunch of carbon copies, which made Mama Swimmer, Mr. Clubtail and Hyp's father very difficult to track down, but I hope it was worth it in the end ...

The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving

Mama Flyer, having narrowly avoided last place on two previous occasions, ends up taking last place in this film.  It really shows how she was practically nonexistent early on in the series.  :(petrie

Topps was absolutely horrible in this film, and his selfish actions ultimately allowed him to steal a lot of screen time from the Gang during the middle portions of the movie.  :threehorn

Hyp didn't quite beat out Ozzy for most antagonist screen time here, so the Egg Stealer will keep that honor for now.

We're definitely seeing a pattern with Spike consistently at #5 and Petrie consistently staying at #4.  Then again, Topps ensured that the Gang didn't have that many scenes in this movie.

And now, the top three ...

Absolutely no change in the top three here.  Even though all five Gang members saw their numbers go down considerably in comparison to the previous movie (EVERYONE went down by about 5 minutes or more), Littlefoot has performed a hat trick with his third Gold in a row, whilst Cera is beginning to show signs that Ducky's shocking Silver in the first movie might have been a fluke.  Also, this is the first movie where NOBODY made it to 30 minutes.

Coming up next, The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists!  I'm sure many of you can't wait to see how Ali ends up doing!

My screen time results for the second movie are in!  Some of the main characters took hours each, but all that work has paid off.

The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure

Okay, I know you're gonna say why didn't I include all those babies that appeared at the end, but I only decided to include the baby Swimmers and count them as Ducky's siblings, as Spike has no known relatives and I don't believe Petrie had any additional siblings after the first movie.

Topps and Mama Swimmer ended up being tied at 1 minute, 35 seconds each, but I couldn't decide on the countback factor, although in the future event of a tie, I'll rank them based on how many lines of dialogue they have.  Granted, many of the shots with adult characters left me feeling rather uncertain, so I only counted shots including those who I KNEW for a FACT were the Gang's family members.

We ended up with a couple of very close ones.  Ozzy just barely edged out Chomper by six seconds to take the #6 spot, while Petrie took the #4 slot by only 14 seconds from Spike.

And now, let's take a look at the top three!

Well, well, after Ducky shockingly beat Cera for the silver in the original movie, Cera has bounced back to claim the silver over Ducky in the second movie by almost a minute.  :cerasmug  :duckyworried

And unsurprisingly, Littlefoot once again wins the Screen Time Gold by a long shot with a margin of just under ten minutes!   :littlefoot:) Of course, though, I'm sure a number of the sequels (but not all of them) will see him take the top spot by a mile because the series mostly tends to visualize the story through his perspective.  At the rate we're going right now, if I were to show the overall leaderboard (which I'm not going to do so as to avoid spoilers for the end of the project), Littlefoot would have a massive lead in overall screen time after just two movies, but we still have twelve more to go.

Up next, we delve into The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving!

44
Interesting findings!  :)littlefoot

What were the "cringeworthy scenes" if you don't mind me asking?  :thinking

Mainly the infamous tar monster scene. I had to watch that FIVE times.

45
Okay, everyone.  After thoroughly analyzing the movie frame-by-frame multiple times and having to re-watch infamous, cringe-worthy scenes (some of them no less than five times), I have the results for each character's screen time for the original Land Before Time!

Fair warning: I ended up discovering a startling surprise that may make us all never look at this movie the same way again ...

No, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Even I thought for a moment that Vegas Pro had left me cross-eyed, but the editing system speaks nothing but the truth ...

Ducky has more screen time than Cera!  MORE THAN TWO MINUTES no less!  :littlefootscared

Even though Ducky was formally introduced to the audience much later than Cera, the Threehorn's absence from most of the final battle coupled with Ducky being the bait for Sharptooth essentially allowed the Swimmer to overtake the Threehorn for second place in screen time.

Rooter was on screen for only 73 seconds, but that was all he needed to deliver his powerful message about the great Circle of Life.

I was honestly expecting slightly bigger numbers for Sharptooth, but given that a big chunk of scenes ended up being cut from the movie, I guess it's no wonder his screen time was cut down to just over 4 minutes.

As for the siblings, those are credited as a combination of the siblings from each of the Gang's families.  The only reason I counted them was because they are related to the main characters, even though Cera's siblings will never be seen again (their shared combination of 14 seconds ALL during Cera's hatching scene, shockingly).  Ducky's siblings never really become supporting characters, either, but we know very well that Petrie's siblings eventually will.  :petrienotamused

Littlefoot's grandparents were just utterly confusing throughout the time I studied their scenes.  This is actually the only film in the series where they have the scientifically correct coloring (based on gender), as these were mysteriously swapped out from the second movie onward.  Their numbers were simply based on assumption after I decided to go with my gut.

Of course, though, Littlefoot is unsurprisingly far ahead of everyone, his screen time almost doubling that of the runner-up.  It should be noted, though, that most of the movie was essentially being seen through his perspective, so it should come as no surprise that Littlefoot the fearless Longneck leader of the Gang starts off the series seated on the throne as Screen Time King.  The question is, though, will he stay up there throughout the entire series given just how many sequels there are?

That's all for now, though.  I'll see you later with my next post, where we dissect the characters' screen time in The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure!  :)petrie

46
That sure sounds like an interesting project. I look forward to seeing the results.

If it's not too soon to ask, would you consider also doing all 26 episodes of the TV series? I'm just as curious about the characters screen time there as I am with the movies (especially since there's one episode where Cera, Spike, and Ruby make no appearances at all, so it does make me wonder if being completely absent from just one episode has any significant impact on such a statistic).

Just to be clear, I have no intention of including the TV series in this project.  I honestly feel it would throw the whole thing off, especially when it comes to the overall rankings at the end of the project.  This will focus ONLY on the 14 films.  I might try out the TV series in a separate future project someday.

47
Hey, everyone.  After such a disastrous 2022, I knew I had to do something to bring a productive start to 2023 with the Stone of Cold Fire VO project still pretty much in a state of limbo.  I recently watched a video by MovieFlame showing how much screen time each Harry Potter character got in the films versus how many times they were mentioned in the books, and this inspired me to start my own screen time experiment, only here I'll be giving it a shot with Land Before Time characters!

We all know how the original Gang of Five tend to be ranked (Littlefoot, of course, being their fearless leader, followed by Cera, then Ducky, Petrie, and finally Spike), but this had me wondering, how relevant is each character, and does their screen time match up with how they are generally ranked?  This would especially be questionable for at least a few of the sequels since Cera, whom is considered the #2 member of the Gang, has never been the central focus of ANY of the 14 films, and we have at least one film focused on Ducky and Spike, and two films focused on Petrie.

The way I'm going to be doing this is that I am going to add up every single frame which a particular character is on screen and see how much it adds up on the editing system (that being Vegas Pro). I will then rank each character based on how much screen time they got.  I am likely going to split this project into 15 separate parts, in which I focus on each of the 14 films, and then wrap it all up by adding up all the films together and rank each character based on their total screen time throughout the entire film series.

There are a few certain criteria I'll be using here.  Unnamed background dinosaurs who have no dialogue will NOT count (unless it's a character who becomes notable in a later movie, such as most of the Gang's families in the first movie who become major supporting characters later in the series).  Certain sequel Sharpteeth may count if they come into conflict with the main cast of children on one or more notable occasions.

I'm honestly curious to see what results I get, and I'm sure there might be a few surprises here and there.  I can't wait to share whatever surprises I end up finding!  :)petrie

I'll follow this up with a post later this week with the results I get for character screen time for the original movie!  I seriously doubt the first movie will have any wild, shocking surprises, but you never know.

Anyways, have a nice day, and I'll see you later!  :)petrie

Thanks for the wishes, guys!  Even though it was my 30th, it wasn't very eventful.  I guess my highlight was simply reaching my 30s.  :petrieLOL

Hi, everyone! I have some good news!

We successfully installed Windows 11 on our new PC build, and this SSD raid was so outrageously fast that we got ALL our non-gaming stuff installed within the first day! That happened to include Vegas Pro 18 through my Steam account, and after a thorough check over, I can confirm that the VO project is 100% intact and ready to be greenlit again! :)petrie

Hey, everyone. I'm here to announce today that I am going to be temporarily stopping work on this project until maybe early August.

My youngest brother (the computer genius in the family) hasn't been very satisfied with some aspects of our PC setup lately, and after some recent projects blew up in our faces earlier this summer, he decided today that he is going to rebuild our PC from the ground up.  He intends to replace some parts with better performing, more reliable replacements, including the processor, CPU and GPU.  However, he also said that he wants to ditch Windows 10 and upgrade to Windows 11.  Unfortunately, however, because this is the PC I'm using for this project, I will be forced to halt work on this project until we have the PC rebuilt, the new Windows install running at 100% stability, and Vegas Pro back up and running.  I anticipate the downtime for this project to last until at least early August.  It will take a week for the new replacement parts to arrive, and even then it'll still take a while before everything is satisfactorily reinstalled.

Anyone who was wishing to send me voice clips in the near future; please do NOT attempt to send them to me until I give the green light to resume this project.  I hate having to put this on hold, especially for a reason that wasn't of my free will, but I'm sure that in the end everything will turn out great with my brother's new plans.  We should supposedly have an ultra-amazing setup that should see us through the next couple years, if not the end of this decade!  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause some of you whom have been trying so hard to find free time to record your lines.  Well, actually, this could give you even more time to relax since I'll be out of commission and you'll have plenty of time to record and get your lines ready!

And F.Y.I., I have backed up the project on my external hard drive so that it can be readily opened with no progress lost.

Thank you all for your understanding, and I hope to get this back up and running again soon! :)petrie

Hey, everyone. Since activity on this section has died down in recent months, I thought I'd share a little demo showcasing a few partially completed scenes with some of the completed roles just to amp up the interest again.  Littlefoot1616 and I had a nice chat and he thought this was a good idea to reignite the hype.  Here's two and a half minutes of Littlefoot1616 and I having some fun as Petrie and Pterano!  :)petrie :PteranoPlotting

Some roles are still open for anyone who wants to try out.  Click here to see which characters are still available. https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=17122.0

wow! I just went through all your work and it is so sweet to see Ducky and Pietrie together. You mastered the lbt style as well, and that custom car logo was pretty neat!

and nice to see that Peitrie and... I can't remember the name... donkie kong? Please correct me if i'm wrong, but nice to see they seem fond of eachother!

His name is Diddy Kong, by the way. He's Donkey Kong's sidekick (and supposedly his nephew).

And thanks! It's nice to have someone appreciate my gallery despite it being pretty small. :)petrie

It's been forever since I lasted posted some art here. This may have mostly been 3D model posing with an LBT character later painted in the foreground, but I'm counting it anyway because it's an LBT character!

So, here it is. My favorite LBT character meets my namesake and all-time favorite fictional character! Me hope you like it!  :)petrie
