I found this while looking through Mod DB. It's a remake of Dino Crisis using the Source engine, which powers the Half-Life 2 games.

For those who might not know, Dino Crisis is a Resident Evil-style game, a survival horror (marketed as a panic horror) in which you take the role of Regina, exploring an island where much of the inhabitants have been mysteriously slaughtered. Complicating it all, hordes of dinosaurs appear to try to kill you. Pretty much think of Resident Evil, but replace the zombies with dinosaurs, and keep in all the puzzle solving, fixed camera angles, and you have Dino Crisis.

There is a chance I'll be on the team. I had contacted the guy about possibly doing models for him, although he needs to make sure the test file I sent him works before I can move on.

Oh curious. Since this game will be created using the Source engine, does anyone know the polygon count limit for Half-Life 2: Episode 2?

I remember Dino Crisis! I mean, old school Resi Evil styled gameplay... but with dinosaurs?! Sounds like a win-win situation to me!  :DD That being said, I never completely finished the 1st one. I cleared the 2nd one but that was a little more action oriented than #1. Interesting to hear it's getting a Source mod. Is it going to be a true-to-roots remake (i.e locations, screenplay, events occurrence?) like the GC version of the first Resi? Also, what have Capcom said about it? They have been a bit iffy with fan recreations in the past and have since shut down projects. I hope they'll give this one a chance. If any Capcom franchise could do with a reboot, Dino Crisis would be it! If they are looking for testers DH, I'd be help to put my name forward for it! ;)

I don't know what Capcom says about it. No word. I haven't asked the guy yet and he's pretty busy lately. And he does plan on trying to make it as faithful to the original as possible, although some changes may be made. For instance, therizinosaurus might be replaced with monolophosaurus due to the inaccurate portrayal of therizinosaurus to start with (suggested by me and he said he'll consider it).

This sounds really interesting, I loved the first Dino Crisis game but never played the second one. Do you know if they'd be able to program in the fixed camera angles with third person, or would it be first person like the other Half Life 2 mods?

From what I've seen, it'll be first person.

Although I have not yet been accepted into the team (and I dunno if I will), I got to work on a model anyway. Here's what I have so far on the T-Rex model:

Current progress with the tyrannosaurus model:

Now if I can just figure out how to skin properly. I'm still having trouble with that.

Looks good DH! How much time have you invested in this model? I've tried 3D modelling myself and I know how time consuming it can be and that was for making some pretty basic models. Is everything there from one initial shape? Just saying as for parts like the tongue and eyes would probably be easier to animate and adjust is they were objects of their own. Maybe that's what you've done already but from that model, it looks like it is all part of the same thing. If you want some ideas on where to go for skinning, I've got a contact I can talk to if that'll help. Lemme know (PM me or just reply here) and I'll see what I can do.

Good work!  :D

I honestly don't know how long it took me to make that. Many hours I would say. It does take a long time. The most difficult part is always the head. I probably spent the majority of my time just on that, getting the tongue and teeth looking right and what not.

And no, this is actually made out of more than one material. The body, tail, neck, head, and mouth are made out of one material. The fleshy corners are made out of planes instead of circles (like most of the model). The teeth are made out of cones and were cloned multiple times, sizes altered, and placed in the mouth. The tongue is made out of another material (hard to get it in the mouth properly). The fleshy top and bottom of the inside of the mouth is made out of a plane I think. I'm pretty sure that's how I did it. The eyes are made out of a small sphere, and the eyelids made out of two separate planes. The legs are separate, the toes are separate as well. And the arms are separate. I tried to attach them properly but as you can see, you can still see a line.

I used a modifier called Mirror, which makes things a lot easier as I only need to edit half the model. Unfortunately I don't know how to undo the mirror while keeping the second half; half the model ends up disappearing.

And sure I could use some help with skinning. I attempted earlier today, but the program runs so slowly because I have so many vertices.

Hello:
Oh wow, your progress in your models is admirably, specially because organic shapes are very difficult to make and always easy to make poly-counts to explode like an angry volcano.

I hope you'll be accepted in the team, even though that would make you have deadlines and stuff like that perhaps  . Anyways, good luck1 :smile .

Can you give us it's poly-count? and also good luck with texturing it.

Assuming polygons and faces are the same thing, that model has a polygon count of 21,252.
