Silver Screen / The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread

In all honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed by this episode. For one side, after many episodes of trying and failing a lot, the CMC finally get their cutie marks, and with good reason, helping other ponies understand their talents like they helped Troubleshoes. Their designs are decent, but could have been better. And while it's nice to see they decided to reform Diamond Tiara, it all felt rather rushed and quite cliche. We've all seen awful parents like that in media. I know Pacifica Northwest's redemption uses the same trope, but Gravity Falls handled it better and with more depth. Not to mention she got rather easily forgiven for being such a nasty bitch in the past seasons, but the show's had lots of Karma Houdinis in the past, so this hardly fazes me. Truth be told, the Crusaders getting their marks could have waited a bit more, but let's see if they manage to handle it decently. After all, the CMC are willing to aid more ponies get their own marks.
Overall, the whole thing kinda felt somewhat like a rehash of "Magical Mystery Cure", but with more improvements and better paced-songs and the long-awaited goal of our dear fillies, albeit it's got quite some weak spots.
Well, AJ's parents are officially in pony heaven... Or maybe something like Celestia's country?

Poor Big Mac... He just wants to be more special. Anyway, what I liked the most about this episode was the sweet interaction between Mac and AB, as well as the lengths he's willing to go to show her he can be a hero on his own... Even if it means cross dressing in a truly hilarious manner, heh heh heh... Anyway, the episode had a heartwarming ending, and added more depth for Big Mac's character.

That was a neat episode! Much needed interaction between Rarity and Rainbow Dash, and a rather positive one at that! The two ponies may be different but are great pals nonetheless. Rares proved herself to be an awesome detective. After all, those who work with fashion have a great eye for details. Oh, and Sassy's back real soon. Dat continuity. And she's doing a great job as a business partner.
I really liked how they handled the film noir elements, even going deliberately monochrome in certain scenes. Needless to say, Wind Rider totally got what he deserved. I'm specially fond of how Soarin' was like. Even if Spitfire's not around, he's a competent authority on his own. And more Wonderbolt members!
Mmm, Rarity is a fan of detective Shadow Spade's novels, huh? Could she be as popular as Daring Do?
Also, those ponified Sherlock, Wadson and Moriarty... sweet. And that jazz version of the end credits was amazing.

Made in Manehattan was adorable. Nice to see Coco returning, And when we thought she couldn't get any cuter, we get glimpses of her filly life! Hnnnghh...
So, Twilight is bored of her skull with reading huh? Don't worry Twi, pretty sure you'll get a mission soon. And it's great to see all the Manehattan ponies coming to see the Midsummer Festival an having a good time while getting along. The moral was handled decently. Oh, and that Peanuts reference sure was a neat touch. Rarity and AJ are always amusing when together and they certainly did not disappoint. I shall post my thoughts on the movie later on.

Well, another righteous reward for surviving this lesser pony drought. That was a pretty decent episode. It's nice to see Rarity getting quite some episodes for herself after being negated the first whole half of the season. And it was great to see achieving her dream of a boutique, even if it was just for a while. But the dresses she made are gorgeous nonetheless (even if the business didn't turn out as she had hoped). Yeah, the twist in Sassy Saddles' character feels a bit forced, but was an alright addition. Kinda adds more perspective to her, but it was truly sweet from Rares to not fire Sassy despite having full reason to (And Sassy sure deserved getting sent back to Trottingham) She truly is the element of generosity after all. She may not have a boutique in Canterlot anymore, but she's got an employee, so that's just alright.
Fatty pony FTW

Silver Screen / Sad DreamWorks moments
« on: August 20, 2015, 08:02:52 PM »
DreamWorks animation has given us plenty of films,  and a good deal of them contain very emotional moments, happy or sad, nightmarish of hilarious to name a few. So, which moments from DreamWorks animated films do you consider the most tragic? Here are some examples:
*How to Train Your Dragon: Stoic's demise and funeral in the sequel. Likewise, Hiccup losing his leg and the aftermath of it in the first movie
*The Prince of Egypt: Moses' nightmare, while mostly scary, is rather tragic too. Likewise, the song "Deliver Us" and Moses' reaction to the impact the plagues cause on Egypt, and his breakdown after Rameses mourns his deceased first-born son.
*Shrek: The montage in the first movie with Rufus Waltwright's version of Hallelujah, and the "I Need some Sleep" scene in the sequel, as well as Shrek being fooled by the Fairy Godmother in the castle.
*Kung Fu Panda: The way Po feels when Shifu and the Furious five at first act bitter towards him and consider him unworthy of being the Dragon Warrior, Master Oogway's ascension, and from the sequel, Po's flashback to the day Shen and his wolves raid his village to murder innocent pandas, with him losing his mother and being separated from his dad in the progress.

The Fridge / Ever had a catchphrase?
« on: August 18, 2015, 11:12:02 PM »
So, has there been a moment where you ever attempted to fashion a catchphrase for yourself? You know, the kind of quote that is repeated constantly. If you ever coined a catchphrase for you, how did it went? Was it successful or in the end you just decided not to go with it? And what kind of catchphrase did you create?

Gamers Zone / If you were to make a movie of your favorite game
« on: July 29, 2015, 12:22:16 AM »
Well, if you were a movie maker, and were given the opportunity to direct a film adaptation of your most favorite video game, how would you handle things? Which actors would you hire? If it were to have special effects, which company would you pick up? Would it be animated of live-action? Which writers do you believe would be the most appropriate? And what kind of changes would you make to the story to better fit the movie format while staying as faithful as possible to the source material? You can discuss these and other questions in this topic.

So, what have been some of your most weird food or drink cravings you've ever had? Have you made weird combinations? For example, making a pizza with very unusual toppings, or even making an unholy hybrid between a burger and a hot-dog.

General Land Before Time / Littlefoot's identity
« on: July 16, 2015, 12:13:39 AM »
Well, Ever since the creation of the first movie, Bluth himself looked at Apatosaurus skeletons for reference, and the names of most Apatosaurus characters usually begin with A, so it's safe to assume Littlefoot himself and his family are apatosauruses. On the other hand, things get confusing with Bron. He was named still under the assumption Brontosaurus was a synonym of Apatosaurus, but things are now different, so... could this make LittleFoot an Apato/Bronto hybrid?

My, that sure was amazing! Quite an improvement over Sonneborn's previous chapters. There are lots of good things to talk about this episode. It seems like a thousand years of imprisonment in the moon wasn't enough for Luna to bear, which led to the creation of the Tantabus, so she could punish herself for all the evil she committed as Nightmare Moon. This makes her one of the most complex characters in the show. And each time she felt down and guilty, we all wanted to reach throughout the screen and give her a great hug. No doubt about it.
The dream sequences are very brilliant too and some are quite hilarious, even if they become nightmares (like RD's, a truly funny take that against overly cute child's programming) But the best sequence is indeed the climatic dream battle against the Tantabus involving ALL of Ponyville. Lots of awesome stuff! (Princess Big Mac, Flutterbat, Giant Derpy...)
The Tantabus itself is a very threatening and effective villain, and has a cool design to booth. Specially when it becomes a giant monstrous, pony-shaped creature. It's like an alicorn version of the Forest Spirit of Princess Mononoke. Quite Lovecraftian, and a formidable mid season boss. Totally loved this episode.
It's quite a shame we have to go through another hiatus, but it'll hopefully be less tedious this time.

I love FiM! Honestly when I first heard about it I shrugged it off as a "girly kids show". Sure I watched MLP when I was five but now...? Then someone introduced me to the character Discord and that sparked my interest. I watched "Return of Harmony", got hooked and the rest is history. It's safe to say I'm a brony now. :p I've really enjoyed (most of) season five so far and the newest episode sounds interesting. It'll be fun to revisit those ponies from Twilight's past.
Well, welcome to the herd pal! It's always great to see new faces in the fandom. Indeed, Discord is epic. And your All Dogs go to Heaven avatar is awesome too. Hope you enjoy being part of the bronydom. :)

Oh man, that's got to be one of the cutests and bestest episodes in the season. Shows how much Twilight has changed as a character, and gives some more deep to the Canterlot unicorns she avoided in the first episode. Three more beloved background ponies now become perhaps part of the supporting cast and they were very adorable in the episode. What I specially liked the most were all those nods and references to the first episode, after all, FIM is know for its strong continuity and this does not disappoint, specially since it ties loose ends connected to Twi's past.

The character of Moondancer is rather interesting too. I know many criticize her design for being mostly a palette swap of unicorn Twilight wearing a messy sweater and glasses, but that further drives the point of what Twilight might have become had she never encountered the other Mane five. Plus, she's kinda cute too. Her breakdown at the climatic party was very emotional, and showcases how truly good is Larson at writing this kind of scenes. There are other equally tear jerking moments too. The flashback to Moondancer's party, seeing how much has Twilight and Spike's original home fallen into disrepair after they left for Ponyville is very depressing too, and even Spike's gift to Moondancer, while cute in itself, also serves as a reminder how antisocial Twilight used to be.
Good to see our princess successfully making amends. Too bad Lyra never showed up, but I'm sure she was at Ponyville at the moment and already forgave Twilight as easily as Minuette, Lemon Hearts and Twinkleshine. And Twilight's spell that allows her to enter books is gonna be lots of Fanfic fuel for the herd.
Yup, totally enjoyed this chapter. Oh, and we got a ponified Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6. And a Starlight Glimmer cameo! Villains need to have lunch too.
Anyway, have some insanely cute Minuette a.k.a Colgate

Hmmm... let's see... the yaks are a bunch of condescending perfectionists who want everything to be exactly the way it is at their home, and while the Mane Six do their best to keep them comfortable, every single time something fails to meet their expectations, even in the slightest way... YAKS SMASH!!! Why does that sound familiar?

Jokes aside, this was a very decent episode, with more insight on the world building of Equestria and the races inhabiting it (complete with a new monster for the bestiary!). Glad to see yaks appearing, and while their overreactions are hilarious, they do raise a few questions about their culture. A shame we never get to see Yakyakistan in all its glory, albeit the way Pinkie travels toward it and (accidentally) goes all the way back to Equestria sliding is both epic and amusing (Pony Beatles FTW!). There are lots of other funny moments too, like all those freaky faces the ponies keep making and Twilight's phobia of quesadillas. (Who'd believe Celestia's most powerful apprentice is deathly afraid of a harmless cheese-based food?)

I am aware this episode does have its divisive elements. Not only the yaks themselves, but Pinkie's secret basement too. It's a touching way to show how much she truly cares for her friends, but it can also come off as rather creepy and stalkeriffic too. But overall it's an episode you won't regret watching.
And for those wondering what's the name of the mistery monstrer, It's Snowbutt McTwinkles

Huh, I kinda have mixed feelings about this one. For one side, I do enjoy the whole summit concept, it's a good plot device for world building, as well as the utter cuteness of sleepy Twi. On the other hand, while the Aesop of the episode is important, I don't think they delivered it the right way. You see, none of the decisions Spike made when he got drunk with power and began misusing it were catastrophic. Sure, they were selfish, but did not have any lasting impact on the summit. Those which did cause things to go downhill, were made way before power got to his head, and at that moment he was more worried about Twilight sleeping peacefully, not to mention he didn't had experience to make decent choices.
Anyway, we'll stay tuned for Weird Al's return.

SWEET MONKEY JESUS! That episode sure was astonishing! It was insanely sweet to take a look at the crazy little adventures of all those pretty background equines. Bon Bon being a freaking Mare in Black (funnily enough, it's Lyra the most normal one in the relationship), The Doctor being, well, the Doctor, complete with his classic catchphrases and neat references, with some Doc Brown thrown in, Derpy gloriously speaking once again (with a voice similar to some fandom interpretations) and being Whooves' companion (with some Ship tease to boot), Octavia and DJ P0n3 being roomies and making awesome music, the Big Lebowski ponies behaving like their counterparts... the list is HUGE. It's safe to assume lots of bronies and pegasisters got happily satisfied with their headcanons. The Bugbear is one fine monster as well (with another hilarious pun behind it too), and the wedding between Cranky and Matilda was lovely, as well as the Mayor's speech. Twilight is indeed right about being lucky to live with her friends in Ponyville.

Also, hooray for random changeling. And Featherweight getting sprayed with ink.

The Fridge / Your worst memories from your time as a noob

So, back when you were a newbie at whatever social network you first showed up, what have been some of the lamest/worst memories you remember? When I was a noob myself I would often post whatever I wrote without respecting punctuation and would often suggest silly crossovers and nonsensical stories. Looking back, it makes me cringe like there's no tomorrow.

Yet another good one, season 5 has yet to disappoint. Gotta love all those griffins and their designs, I'm specially fond of Grampa Gruff, he's like a turkey vulture. I loved how the griffins were given traits and elements of Southern European and Asian cultures, given their mythical origins. They're somewhat like the Toydarians from Star Wars lore as well. Gilda's return and redemption is well handled too, and it's great to see she and Dash are friends once again, not to mention she'll hopefully help Griffonstone go back to its former glory showing friendship to everygriffin.
Fun Fact: Arimaspi are a race of cyclops-like monsters from Greek mythology who were at war with griffins and constantly attempted to raid their gold. That's the creature seen in the flashbacks.
Also, Pinkie X King Grover statue is now my OTP

The Fridge / Random ways you've bonded with your friends
« on: May 25, 2015, 10:51:46 PM »
So, the main topic is to name some random ways you've bonded with people you have met to begin your friendship with them. Most of the friends I've met and I bonded because of our shared liking for topics like dinosaurs, funny stuff, paranormal and enigmas, video games, anime and similar things. Plus, I met a girl at a school trip and we both became fast friends because of our shared love for Minecraft and nerdy stuff.

Finally got a chance to watch those two episodes. Appleloosa's most wanted is decent, it's got a lot of funny jokes and cute moments and Troubleshoes is a rather sweet character. He's got a neat design (Clydesdales FTW) and I can kinda relate to him, I can be quite a klutz for a good deal of time
As for Make New Friends But Keep Discord, it's got to be a really amusing chapter. Discord was totally spot-on and his references are epic too. Loved his failed comedy scene. Oh, and Tree Huger the hippie pony sure is hilarious, hope to see her come back, and we all loved Maud's return here too. Regarding this take on the Smooze, well, it kinda feels like a tiny-sized, cute and friendly Hedorah, as long as it doesn't get out of control.
Anyway. can't wait till Saturday to see what the Griffin Kingdom looks like!
