Post by: Petrie. on December 26, 2006, 07:55:25 PM
Don't know why I didn't think of this before...why not just upload the list I had made and online for years on this board???  (Remember this...its old..I haven't made revisions since LBT 10 came out so if some would like to suggest/make changes, post in this forum.)

Here you are...they're in alphabetical order too. ;)

Diplodocus' hind legs were longer than its front legs, this tells us that it probably ate plants that were low to the ground. It was so big, however, that it could push trees over in order to get the leaves at the top down to the ground! Diplodocus means "double bar" and the name was given to Diplodocus because of the shape of its tail-vertebras.

The bottom front part of its beak was shaped like a shovel. It had large eyes positioned on opposite sites of its head, ruling out binocular vision (depth perception). This oviraptorosaur had short arms with three clawed fingers on each hand, and long legs with three clawed toes on each. A long tail acted as a counterbalance and as a stabilizer during fast turns. Its bones were hollow.  Gallimimus was a theropod, whose intelligence was high among the dinosaurs.

Why ask me?  You're the webmaster aren't you?  So you have a couple of options...pick one. :)  I'm not going to bite your head off if you make updates or changes or things like that.  Its in your creative focus now...you could throw everything out I did and start from scratch and it wouldn't bother me a bit.

Then what are they?  You'd be the first in over three years to correct me. :P:
Title: LBT Character List
Post by: DarkHououmon on July 11, 2007, 09:18:41 PM
:p   The reasons I don't think they are troodons are:

1. Troodons don't have beaks. The rainbow face's snouts end in a point, therefore a beak.

2. The feet of troodon both contain a single small sickle-claw. Both rainbow faces lack these sickle-shaped claws.

3. The rainbow faces don't have any teeth visible, not even sharp teeth. A troodon would have a mouth lined in small serrated teeth, as they are carnivores.

4. A troodon only grew to be about 3 ft high and 6 ft long. The rainbow faces are far too large to be troodons. (despite what the back of the LBT3 box says, I don't believe any raptors we've seen were velociraptors, most likely utahraptors or deinonychuses)

The rainbow faces were more likely to be gallimimus. Gallimimus did not have a sickle claw. They had beaks. They were generally toothless. And they were quite larger, larger than an ostrich, up to 20 ft long.

Title: LBT Character List
Post by: Ratiasu on July 11, 2007, 09:27:40 PM
Since the Rainbowfaces are aliens, it is plausible to believe that they aren't any specific type of dinosaur and merely chose a form, or even created one, to fit their needs. :\ They probably visited Earth one time and looked at the dinosaurs and said 'hey, for this mission occuring in a few years we're going to need a form that's fast and can push thing, preferably with hands. Oi, look a' that long-necked running thing, let's base our form off of that!'

Okay. Since there are other Rainbowfaces in the movies that aren't alien, I guess they picked that species out due to bright colors. :p
Yay inspiration for clichÈ flashing lights on UFOs.

EDIT:
But yeah, the Rainbowfaces are probably Gallimimus, or something close to it.

I honestly don't think they're either of those.

[snipped out the picture]
That's the pelvic boot, I believe. Most dinosaurs had those. They're most pronounced in the dromaeosaurs, so they could actually sit upright like a person, I believe.

Well, the rainbowfaces never had anything like that so I don't think they're that species.

LBT has warped dinosaur anatomy before, such as greatly enlarging T. Rex's arms.

Animations involving dinosaurs often don't have the pelvic bone.

True, true.  I guess there's no way to know for sure. :(

Gallimimus is more likely than troodon.

But if you don't think they are gallimimus, then what do you think they are, landbeforetimelover?

Also to point out, the pelvic bulge you see in the gallimimus picture is common among many species of dinosaurs.

I have no idea at all.  I've never even been to a site or read a book that said anything about dinosaurs lifestyle before.  To be honest, I find reading about them to be....uninteresting.  I'd much rather watch a movie about them than read about them.

Maybe you could watch a documentary on dinosaurs. Dinosaur Planet is a good one.

Oh come on, reading's half the fun. :p  I can't imagine people saying they enjoy Dinotopia and never have picked up the books.

Since you're very convincing and more a dinosaur expert than I am, I'll change it to gallimimus.  (I don't know if you've got the character pages working, Austin, but I'd recommend the change on there too.)

I have the character page fully functional.  I'll change it as well.  I've also added Tria, but I haven't had much free time lately, so I haven't been working on it recently.

For anyone who doesn't like the pelvic bone there are plenty of Gallimimus images without it (it goes to show that our dinosaur reconstructions are still far from being unanimous or totally relieable):

I think Kacie has a very good point. Apart from those already mentioned Gallimimus would probably be considered less of a threat by the Great Valley inhabitants than a Troodon would. I think Kacie's guess is more likely.

Okay.  That makes sense.  I'll change it ASAP.  Now that does look a lot like a rainbowface.

I personally think Elsie is an Elasmosaurus. Her name seems to lead me to that conclusion.

Why wasn't REd claw ,his lackeys and chomper's parents included.

The list was created before the TV episodes were even announced. You won't find Ruby on their either. As for Chomper's parents, I don't think they were thought of. The same goes for other characters (e.g. Old One).
