Nagasaki- A prefecture in Southern Japan home to the town of Nagasaki, known for being a westernized port city and the second atomic bombing when Kokura was passed up due to weather.  Also home to Nagasaki Prefecture is Sasebo, a US naval city, and Shimabara which was partially destroyed when Mt. Unzen erupted in 1991.

Finally!  I got some actual art done!  It's been one hell of a semester I tell ya.

Worked on this picture for my new furaffinity account, which I should be moving to in the next couple of days.  xD

The angles and the facial anatomy are a little off, but I wanted to give off an exaggerated, silly yet somewhat creepy vibe to it.  :p

Holy crap, the first ones especially made me laugh playing it through in my head.  The concept is just so awesomely hilarious in that regard.  Especially the idea of sharptooth as a laser-shooting terminator thing.  Entertaining concept if I do say so myself.  :p

Silver Screen / Kaiba
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:37:41 PM »
Hey everybody.  I don't know how many would be interested, but I thought I'd share one of my favorite animes out there, maybe see if anybody on this site has also seen it too.

Note, this is not to be confused with the Yu-Gi-Oh character of the same name.  The series, Kaiba, was released in Japan in 2008 and still has yet to see a western release or even an English dub.

The cute and kiddy artstyle can be misleading at first glance, but the story of Kaiba is actually really dark, deep and blatantly adult.  As an anime fan who prefers shows that are more obscure and character-driven, this gem was definitely a great find.

The basic premise of the show revolves around how the wealthy are able to store their consciousness in a chip that they can transfer from body to body.  However, memories of the people below them are often stolen and sold on the black market.  One day a young man awakens with a hole in his chest and no memory of who he is.  For his own safety he is sent into space, where on each world he encounters how this specific technology has affected and even destroyed the lives of other people.  As the series of 12 episodes continues forward, his own memories and dark intentions before his amnesia are slowly revealed to him.

Because there has never been an english dub, let alone a worldwide release, all that exists are English fansubs across the internet on several streaming sites, sans youtube where there are only Spanish subs from what I can find.  If one has a chance, I definitely recommend checking out this hidden gem in anime.

Thanks everybody!  I appreciate the compliment, Pterano.  I drew inspiration for my shadow/highlight technique from Ken Sugimori, I drew inspiration for the toony style from Don Bluth, while trying to add a little of my own twist to it.  :p

Thank you!  The t-shirt was an intentional easter egg I've recently started using.  Instead of a plain white t-shirt, I decided to use it as a canvas to put my sona's thoughts on.   :p

Thank you very much, Kor and Ducky!  About time I finally got out my tablet again.  These pictures were originally colored pencil, but after I realized how clean digital looked, I fixed them up.  xP

Here's a little preview image for a cooking show I've been working on this summer.

And here is one of the graphics for the pilot episode.  Never plug Japanese appliances into an American outlet.  xP

Silver Screen / Judith Barsi
« on: June 16, 2013, 11:26:41 PM »
Many topics about poor Judith have shown up on this site before.  I've even posted one myself, a long long time ago.  It's one of the reasons why I hold the first Land Before Time close to my heart while all of the sequels have faded from my memory.  The last of this wonderful girl's words, immortalized in two of Bluth's most famous movies.  The emotions that are invoked when hearing her voice in LBT and All Dogs Go To Heaven are even stronger, and at the same time more depressing when thinking that after both of these movies she would never star in another film again.  To think that no character would ever be graced with such a sweet and innocent voice again.

Judith Barsi, I will always remember you for who you were and who you could have become.  You were a bright star who shined in the minds of many of us in our childhoods.  As for Mr. Jozsef Barsi?  May your pathetic, intoxicated, inhuman waste of tissue and neurons shamefully stain the ground you were dumped in.

Silver Screen / Cloud Atlas
« on: June 09, 2013, 12:56:40 PM »
Heyall.  I was just wondering if anybody else has heard of a film called Cloud Atlas.  It is a fairly obscure title that wasn't around in theaters for very long, but I can't think of any other film that has had such a polarizing effect on critics.  People either really, really love it or really, really hate it.  I happen to lean more towards the love it side overall, though I do have some complaints.

Based on a novel written in 2004, the story, or stories, take place over the course of hundreds of years.  Showing how the actions of a single person can carry down the centuries to affect the lives of others.  An amazing set up that could have been done a lot worse.  It is a hard film to follow, really hard to follow.  But the alternation between these six different eras were surprisingly well put together.  Clocking in at 3 hours, I'd say the way this film was put together grabbed my attention more than Avatar or Les Mis ever could.

Another amazing feature is how in each story line they reuse the same actors, and one thing this film is praised for is it's amazing make-up jobs for the six or seven different characters they have to play as.

My big complaint about it though, is with my favorite story arc.  Set in a 22nd century Korea, I did enjoy the futuristic sci fi dystopian setting.  There is just one problem.  Remember the amazing make-up job this film has?  It's at this point where it turns against them.  The main protagonist, Sonmi 451 was played by a native Korean.  But most of the other cast members were white people with eye makeup to make them look Asian.  Jim Sturgess, James D'Arcy, and probably the most ridiculous of them all, Hugo Weaving, all had what would be considered "yellowface" done to make their eyes altered to look Asian, but nothing else was done to remove the white features of their faces.

Overall, that's the only complaint I have for this movie and the only big setback from making it perfect for me.  In general, I think this film was definitely an amazing thrill ride that blends genres of historical fiction, period drama, mystery, comedy, and dystopian sci fi.  For a collab between the directors of The Matrix and Run Lola Run, I think this is probably the best way they could have put together a book that was considered unfilmable.

The Fridge / Differences between English and Russian
« on: May 30, 2013, 12:33:05 AM »
Since this regards other languages, not just Russian, I think I'll make a few comparisons regarding English and Japanese.

Japanese is often a very difficult language for English speakers, or Westerners in general to grasp.  Funny thing is most Japanese people would say the same about learning English.  The Japanese alphabets, in some respects, are much easier and are less arbitrary than the English alphabet.  For the most part, the characters in the phonetic alphabets Hiragana and Katakana are much more straight forward.  Almost every character sounds the same when forming a word or a sentence, and I stress almost.  Because there are three, maybe four exceptions.  One is the hiragana particle "は" which is often pronounced as "ha" but as a subject particle it is pronounced "wa."  The particle を or "wo" in romaji, which is a particle defining the use of an object is often pronounced as "o."  Regarding non-particle characters, there is "す" or "su."  When put at the end of a conjugation of a verb in polite form, or pronouncing the word "desu" at normal speed, the u is silent, so it would sound like "des".  し or "shi" is sometimes subject to a silent vowel.  When using a past tense conjugation with a verb such as "arimashita" the i is silent, so at normal speed it would sound like "arimashta".  Other then that, much of their phonetic alphabets are pretty straight-forward.

Kanji, or the 2000 or so Chinese characters most commonly used in Japanese are subject to many different forms of pronunciation. Often, the pronunciations change depending on whether the kanji is a stand-alone word, a compound word of multiple kanji, or if it's a transitive or intransitive verb.  Much of this differentiating is solid memorization so it can be head-explodingly difficult and often turns off most people learning Japanese by the time they reach intermediate level.

Another turn-off for most is 敬語, "Keigo" or honorific speech.  This is another part of the language with no secret work-around.  Pretty much the equivalent of repeatedly bashing your head against a brick wall.  You literally have to tear down everything you learned about the Japanese language to learn Keigo.  Basically, there is the honorific form when talking about a superior, and humble form when you are talking about yourself, in which you refer to yourself of a lower status.  It is confusing as hell, and if you want to get a job in Japan you better learn Keigo pretty darn quick.

How does Japanese compare to English?  Well, it's both really easy and really difficult in some regards.  English and Japanese have about the same amount of exceptions, though with English, the exceptions are more alphabetical.  While the exceptions in Japanese tend to be more grammatical.  Japanese has more straight-forward conjugations, but the amount of situation-specific particles that make up grammar and sentence structure can really make one's head spin.

Another quick comparison to make is the basic sentence structure of both languages.  English: Subject-Verb-Object  Japanese: Subject-Object-Verb.

I would go in to how there are also gender specific words, but I don't have a lot of time.  I'm not gender as it is known in languages like German either.  I'm talking about literal gender specific words that only boys or girls can say.

Whew...  I could go on and on talking about the workings of the Japanese language and how it differs from most Western languages, but if I did that it would take about six months.  xD

Figured I'd start posting some of my art up here.  I've been working on a style that's less anime/manga-like in favor of a more stylized appearance.  I'm drawing mostly from Don Bluth, given how if it weren't for his movies I wouldn't be a furry in the first place. xD

Here is my most recent refsheet of my fursona.  I'm still trying to get a few things down, and I've improved on my new style a bit since I started.  I'm especially enjoying drawing humans in this new style of mine.  But for now, here is my fursona's refsheet.

Gamers Zone / Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:25:18 AM »
Okay, I will admit.  I have never played an official Far Cry game in my life.  Though I really, really want to.  So far this is the only Far Cry game I've played to date and apparently it has a few similarities to how the first Far Cry works.  But with a crazy setup similar to the cheesy and stupid B movies of the 1980s.  And that is what I really freaking love about this game!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZUueizrR0A

It affectionately parodies and references many things that make the 80s great.  If there is one thing I love more than anything, it's the sci fi and action films of the 80s.  The gusto is all there, right down the VHS tracking, scan lines, cheesy one-liners and Michael Beihn.  It's like Ubisoft Montreal knew the kind of game I wanted!  Granted, there are some people out there who might not take to it as fondly as I have, but for children of the 80s, and people who wish they were children of the 80s like myself, this is an awesome piece of stand alone DLC and for about 15 dollars, there is a lot of content to be found.

They should probably do a film version of the Jurassic Park: Trespasser PC game. Then it would no doubt be a hit.
I'd totally go see that, because there's no doubt we have the technology to give people rubbery ten-foot-long right arms.  :lol
