Title: Who knows you watch LBT? Do you watch it alone?
Post by: landbeforetimelover on April 19, 2007, 09:24:03 PM
There seems to be a certain age at which you are "supposed" to stop watching these things.  My parents do not think it's normal that I still watch LBT.  They think that at the age of 15, you should be over stuff like that.  Not even one of my friends know that I like it.  It seems that society has made a certain age limit to a movie and if you do not fall into that age limit but you still watch it, you are considered to be wierd or immature.  I find that it is normal to like LBT at any age.  I usually watch it whenever I get the chance.  I have all of the lbt movies on my ipod and I sometimes watch them on the bus when no one is paying attention.  I would be horribly embarrassed if a kid at school got a hold of my ipod and found LBT videos on it.  I don't know why I would be embarresed.  I only watch LBT on the computer at home because I can encrypt the videos so no one knows I have them.  I bought all of the dvd's and ripped them onto the computer.  Then I threw the origional dvd's away.  Why are we so ashamed to like these video's?  Why are we so concerned with others opinion?  Why do people like to degrade others who still like LBT when they are past the age of 11?  My actions and reactions are illogical when my life involves LBT and others.  Where is the logic in embarressment and why do these movies make us embarressed?  It seems to me from all of the previous responses that we typically watch LBT when we are alone.  Is it truly because we can't find anyone to watch it with or is it because we are so afraid of becoming embarressed and what other people think?

My parents and brother know I watch The Land Before Time series, but no one else - I don't have any friends, see. As for watching it alone, yep, unless I force my dad to watch a movie, which hasn't happened in...a few years. I remember trying to watch all of the movies in one day - I only got up to #5 before I wanted to do something else.

No friends?  That's sad.  Well you have or will soon have friends here.  How old are you?  When did you first begin to like LBT?  Do you have all of the movies?

I am 17 years old. I began to like LBT around 1997 or so - I don't quite remember, but I was really young, young enough to be able to crawl through a cat door. As for all the movies, no. I only bought the movies up until number seven - everything after that didn't interest me much, sad to say.

I never really hid the fact i watch them. I got em all on ither dvd or vhs that i put on dvd. I watch the series every time its new some times in the reruns as well. Now the same is also true of me and all animation. Ive watched arious land before times then poped in my reviewers cut (and yes its legally mine a friend gave me it when he was done with it ) of finale fantasy spirits with in or blood the little vampire or vampire hunter d.

So for me while lbt is my fave animated film its not the only animation film im a fan of nor the only style of animation. I like those triaminic thing strips comercials. A very simple style of animation but very cool it its simplistic nature. In a way telling a tory with that style of simple animation is more difficult than movies like lbt.

I think its up to us when we hae kids to teach them theres no shame what o ever about enjoying animated films and shows. If the story is good and is a deeply involing one whats not to like"

I totaly agree with you there.  When I was browsing through the postings, I found that a lot of people hid the fact that they watched them.  I just don't think that many people are open to LBT.  I don't know why.  I love it.  I must admit though that the last song on LBT 12 was pretty odd.  I didn't like it so much.  I thought that the song had no real purpose.  If you notice, there is always three songs in the sequals.  I think they wanted to uphold that pattern so they put an unessessary song in there to fill the gap.  Other than that LBT 12 was excellent!  What do you think?

I think people shouldn't be very superficial. I'm 22 and I don't care if someone knows that I love LBT. Even my brother, who likely dislikes LBT, watches them; well, not as often as I do, but anyway, no one has the right to criticize LBT as childish, lame and boring, 'cause we LBT fans don't care if someone knows we watch the movies and/or series. So, what if the social rules makes us geeks? Social rules are also made to be broken. (Well, just in my case) So I think we LBT lovers should be treated the same way as other people in the world, and not like geeks. Well, I made up my point. That's all.

If only that were true.  It's not so in order to feel okay about yourself, you have to disregard the critics and like what you like - LBT

No one knows that I like The Land Before Time ('cept you guys, of course). I don't really care what people would think about it, so embarrassment isn't a problem. The problem is that when my little brother finds out, I guarantee you, he will never shut up about it. Ever. He still won't let go of some 8 months ago when I saw The Lion King again, and he might even be going slightly easy on me, because he really respects Jeremy Irons (Scar). I can only imagine how bad it would be if he knew I enjoyed not just the first LBT, but the whole series...

My family knows I have watched most of the sequels at least once, and the original many times over.  Friends?  Its not something you just bring up out of the blue.  I don't have many that watch animated stuff anyway so I try to find something we have in common rather than only discussing things I like. ^^

I'm repeating myself as the topic has frequently come up of lately, but I don't really make a secret of my LBT enthusiasm, least of all towards my family. At university you won't see me walking around telling people: "Hey do you already know that I'm a diehard land before time fan?" expecting a "Wow that's cool!" in response. But I wrote the land before time as my favorite movie on my public university profile page. Everyone who cares to take a look at what I'm drawing and scribbling all the time will see LBT characters however and I don't keep them out of sight for anybody while not waving them over my head for anyone to see who doesn't care to look at it. ;)
I've been faring well that way so I'm not going to change it. If I was concealing it all the time I might risk being overseen by some other land before time fan who makes a secret of his enthusiasm some day (though I have yet to meet one living closer than several hundred miles to me). People are more likely to harass you with something you try to conceal from them. Being open about it takes quite some of the edge of their immature conduct.

My views on how I feel about The Land Before Time and if anyone knows I like it can be pretty much summed up on the topic Honesty. But the whole "Do You Watch it Alone?" thing, well, that wasn't exactly asked in Honesty so I can answer that one here. About three or so people watched it with me once or twice in my entire life, but the last time was many years ago, and that was it. So yeah, I watch it alone. Have been for a long time. My dad has told me for years that people my age don't like The Land Before Time except for "childish" me. (Sigh) These last years, if I ask my family to watch something on television with me, they'll usually say, "As long as it isn't The Land Before Time." (Sigh again) After coming here, I saw how many other people who aren't "kids" like it besides me. That knowledge is comforting, but I still have yet to meet someone face to face who will watch it with me since I was a teenager. So to keep me from being alone when I watch it, I simply- wait, nevermind. There is NOTHING I can do to keep from being alone when watching it because I have tried EVERYTHING and I am STILL ALONE when I place one of the DVD's in a player. How utterly annoying. My family acts like it's a forbidden topic and often cuts me off when I try to talk about it. I don't have any friends I can hang out with. A lot of people have closed their minds because of that cursed stereotype: "The Land Before Time is just for little kids." Rattles are for little kids because they can fully enjoy them because they understand them. I shake it, then it makes noise. That actually sums it up. But I doubt a seven year old could grasp half the things discussed here. Kids watch simply to enjoy, but our kind also tries to understand concepts. A child listens to "Friends for Dinner" from V and thinks it's fun to hear. We listen to it and think it's fun to hear yet notice things like since France has yet be established, the song has no reason to contain the phrase "a la mode." Every age can enjoy The Land Before Time, which the current 270 members of teenagers and above has proven. We can enjoy it because we are old enough to grasp its many concepts, yet we are despised frequently for being "too old." No one has a reason to judge us. We chose to keep liking The Land Before Time but we have no control over our age. Age doesn't automatically make people stop liking things, but many think it should for some reason. Blaiming others for reasons beyong their control is like making fun of a person who has freckles, is short, or has a crooked smile. These things make us who we are, and we can't help it that these attributes don't fit into others' list of "cool things." If there is something proven that is evil about The Land Before Time that corrupts people into commiting heinious crimes, fine then. You have an excuse to condemn us because we still stick with it. But our age cannot be controlled with will power, pills, or torture, so we WILL get older everyday. Is treating us differently because we are victims of time like everyone else but chose to hold on to what is dear to us the best that these people can come up with to talk down to us? Next time someone wants to call us immature for liking The Land Before Time or says that there is no way that they would ever watch that, please explain the VALID reason to us for saying so. After all the these years, I am still waiting for one.

I've mainly watched it alone.  The first few times I had my friend who was my roommate at the time watched some of the movies with me.  I think 5 and maybe 2.  I think those were the first ones I saw, or it may have been 4.

I was recently given permission to post this email that was sent to me on a public LBT forum:

Quote
Hello.  My name is Sharon and I love your website!  My children watch the tv episodes every day but I cant seem to get them off my computer and I cant get any work done.  All my children want to do is watch the land before time on your website, but it’s a little difficult for our three children (and my husband and I) to crowd around our small computer screen.  We all love the land before time and I’m glad you made this wonderful website.  Can you please tell me where to buy the episodes so I can get my computer back and so we can watch the movies on the much larger television screen?  If not for the childrens sake then for mine.  I really do love those movies and so does my husband.  Yesterday was our anniversary and we made a day of watching the land before time while the children was away.  It was wonderful.  Any advice on where to buy the tv episodes would be of great help.
Thank you,
Sharon

It seems that many people like LBT, regardless of their age.  I agree with The Friendly Sharptooth's statement that LBT isn't just for kids and that judging someone for liking something because they're not in the typical "age group" is wrong.  I'm sure many people get introduced to LBT through their children or another person who likes it.  There's nothing wrong with that.

My immediate family knows that I watch it. My parents actually haven't expressed any problems with me watching it. Still I do watch it by myself since I'm the only one that's actually interested in it, my siblings making several offensive comments on the occasions that they happen to be in the room. I don't bother talking to any of them about it since I know they aren't interested in it.

Something may be aimed at a certain age group but those outside it may like it as well.  Though humans will always find a way to try to demean others so they can feel better them themselves, put the person a rung down then themselves, and other reasons.

I usually watch alone - besides, it only airs at those hours - but parents and friends know it. I've even got a few friends helping me out on this. ;)
But even if someone did say anything about me watching it, I think its their problem, 'cause the only ones giving show was them since there isn't any problem with your own interests if its what you really like.

My parents know that I like (love) LBT. They've never seen me watching it though, neither do they speak of it. But it's impossible to enter my room without seeing LBT stuff, so...

My sis knows, she doesn't mind. My big sis probably knows, she's not here often but neither could she've missed my LBT stuff.

One of my best friends knows it, we acctually had a pleasant discussion when I told him about it for the first time. He has accepted it to 110% :)
He acctually has equal issues himself, with the japanese AnimÈ Naruto. Which I, ofcourse, have nothing against. :)

One of my... more oddball friends knows about it, or atleast I think so.

No one at school knows. And they don't have to anyway.

I mainly watch it alone. Now it was some time since I last watched one of the movies, but sometimes I pop one of the series DVD into my laptop. Alone.

If I'd like someone to watch it with? Ofcourse! But I can't.
Sad, but it's the unclouded truth.

In addition, the only person I've watched LBT together with, is Patrick. (Nimrod)
I can't thank him enough for that.
On that note, I can add: It's way better to watch LBT with a friend. :)

Wow, I could have sworn I replied to a topic like this.

I do watch it alone. More then once, my mom watched it with me. I know my dad is a bit annoyed with my extreme liking for LBT. Because it's a "children's series". He doesn't have me against watching it. (It would be strange don't you think?) Still, he's seems a bit annoyed with it.

I mostly watch LBT to get ideas for my fan-fiction to try to make it have that LBT feel, yet I tweak it with my own ideas or other influences from other things (i.e.. Avatar, Orwell, spirituality, etc.)
Also I sometimes pause the screen at some parts to draw the image that is there, just to practice on the LBT style.

I remember telling a few of my friends that I did like it, but because we haven't spoken each other for such a long time, (they live in a separate part of the country) I think they forgot all about it.

Besides, I'm trying to get people to see my strong interest in animation. They don't say anything about it, they just shrug and talk about other things.

The way I see it there's some similarities between LBT and Gulliver's Travels. For the children there's a story. For the older people there's a subtext (political satire for Travels and "Fridge Logic" for LBT <by Fridge Logic I mean things like, why is there a mention of Ala Mode?> )

What? We're supposed to give up childhood stuff like LBT? That's like stop believing in Santa Claus or magic.   I'm a baby boomer, probably the oldest amongst this group, but I still watch LBT (and Disney and Peanuts and Looney Tunes et.al.).  I make no apologies. My mom knows I watch LBT and so do my siblings and friends. Some of my peers think it's sweet I still find joy in a "kids movie." The themes and messages are timeless, and they're (the movies) are so much better than what passes for "kids entertainment." I'll surely introduce my 2-year old niece to the wonders of LBT.   :DD

I envy the people here who have been able to share time with another fan in front of a Land Before Time movie or episode. I don't and probably never will understand that pleasure. Those who have read my previous post in this are probably thinking, "Uh, you just contradicted yourself The Friendly sharptooth. You recently said a couple people did watch it with you before." No, this is no contradiction. Previously I talked about watching it with someone in general. Now I'm talking about watching it with someone that actually likes it too. Everyone that has sat with me while watching this, did so to be polite to me. None of them ever expressed any liking for it. Merely, "I guess I'll watch it with you. I'm bored anyway." They couldn't pay attention through a single movie and never said a word about it afterwards. While I appreciated the company somewhat, I only wish there had been different attentions, like, oh I don't know, maybe something simple like, THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO WATCH IT! So in body, I have watched it with company. But in spirit, I have been alone in front of that screen when those dinosaurs showed up my entire life and will most likely continue to be so. If anyone has watched in with another fan one time, you are more fortunate that I could ever be in such a thing. And those who share my loneliness will continue to have my sympathy until the day they meet someone face to face that will end their solitude. In that case I will rejoice for I'd know that one more person doesn't have to suffer as I have. Stay strong. Unlike me who lives far away from other people, the rest of you have a chance to meet the one to strip you of your loneliness. Good luck.

As I've said before, I don't give a crap what folks think of my love of LBT.  If they know I watch it, big whoop.  If they don't like LBT, they're missing out on a beautiful series that can help shape their lives in a positive fashion.

BTW, why would ya be so embarrassed about something ya embrace and adore?  If ya don't make a stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

This is a VERY old topic and my views and actions have changed considerably since then.  I've matured by almost 2 years and a lot of people have gotten to know the truth about my liking of LBT.  Heck, my mom loves the series and watches the movies even by herself.  Nowadays, I make no attempt whatsoever to hide the LBT material that's on my school laptop even though tons of people use it besides me.  I've got tons of LBT images, the movies, my projects, the songs, and even the code to my LBT website on my laptop and all of this material is openly displayed.  I don't have an LBT background on my laptop mainly because I really don't want one while I'm on the go.  LBT is something that I like and enjoy on my time off when I'm at home, not something that I just have all the time when I work and are around several dozen people.

Everyone at my old school knew I liked LBT and I was casually teased a bit, but nothing too harsh came out of it.  Lots of questions and such and a couple of jokes but overall nothing bad happened.  At my new school, I haven't revealed my liking for LBT or said anything about it yet, but I still have all my LBT stuff in plain view and out in the open so I'm sure the fact that I like LBT will soon be known by everyone in the school.  I don't much care anymore.  Why would I give a crap what anyone else thinks or says about me?  I am the way I am.  God made me this way.  If I'm weird or crazy, so be it.  So long as it doesn't hurt anyone, I don't see it as anything bad.

Over time my views have changed a lot.  When a year or so passes, unlike most people my maturity increases dramatically.  Almost exponentially.  I look back at some of the posts I've made a few years ago and I always ask my self "Did I really think that way?".  I'm sure when I look at this post I'm making right now in a year or so I'll wonder why my grammar and language skills were so bad and why I thought the way I did.  My views, morals, values, and religion change very frequently.  I feel as nothing is beyond my abilities.....

Man you're lucky. Everyone I know has said since I was a teenager that I have the maturity of a ten year old. Helpful in seeing things innocently but isn't ideal for a twenty one year old in this society. Sorry, but I couldn't resist responding to that.

Anyway, it comes down to what you value most, your interests or reputation. Do you care more about the things you like or more about others liking you? Some people like myself, have no emotion about being teased unless it's true. If someone says to me, "You're very unattractive," yeah, that saddens me because I know it's true every time I see myself. But if someone says, "The Land Before Time is stupid," I almost want to laugh because I always find it funny when people say things that they know nothing about. It's obvious when someone knows nothing about something, because when they insult it, they can't give a valid reason why they did it.

The Land Before Time, I hate to admit, is one of those topics that someone will always give you a hard time about. But that doesn't have to a be a problem, unless you value others' views over your own. It is easy for those that don't value others' opinions about their likes and dislikes, but I haven't met too many people like that. It isn't that you're embarrased that you like The Land Before Time, otherwise you would stop coming here. When people give someone a hard time, sometimes that person feels bad that their taste is being rejected, because then the person feels rejected, and the person feels that now he or she doesn't look quite so good in front of other people. So to protect your social standing, it may seem easier to hide that you like it, but then people won't see you for who you really are, but as someone that fits in with them, but however comfortable you may be, you know that you really don't connect with them. It is hard for people to be happy when they value others' approval so much that they can't be themselves. Being who you want to be and expressing yourself will always make you feel better and can be pretty fun. This is an idea. When someone gives you a hard time saying that show is for kids and that people are supposed to stop watching that kind of stuff early on, you could always show them the current 271 members here who are teenagers and up. Even if they think all of us here are crazy, they'll at least know that your not some one of a kind fanatic that thinks differently than everyone else your age. But I believe the song called "The Lesson" from The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze really sums up what I'm trying to say here.

Wanting respect is a good thing, but only if you let people respect who you really are. If you love something with all your heart, you need to give that thing what it deserves and stand up for it. Who knows? Maybe when people try to talk down to you, you could go on and on about what's so great it about until those guys get so fed up they leave you alone about it so they won't have to hear about it anymore. But I suppose it is a bit difficult to understand exactly what your going through. See, I like myself, but love The Land Before Time, so I talk about and praise it wholeheartedly regardless of what happens to me. As long as it's being loved and I can show others enough about it so they might love it too, well, I will continue to be happy, so persecution isn't an issue for me. Without any real evils of The Land Before Time, what could anyone possibly say to make me feel bad about it? How can someone go through life content wanting to believe in something but not being able to admit it? Once you decide if The Land Before Time is more important than how it makes people see you, you can also be one who respects others' opinions while being unaffected by them.

I think there's a bit of prejudice in the heart of this topic.
I'm completely opened about it, all my friends know I love it, I don't have any problems with going to a store and buying the DVD's. You shouldn't let what others think get to you, and be opened about it, you might find out that people are able to surprise you in a good away every now and again ;)

Thats Good for you. you don't have retarded people living by you.

However, where I live if I tell somebody my business that will spread I would be called or be known a Sissy.  Yes that's how it goes.  Its best to ignore them but it can get annoying when they continuously call you a sissy or gay.

I used to watch my LBT videos on my own late at night. On the odd occasion my younger bro or sis might watch it with me too but I guess that was at the age when you had to be careful about what you tell your peers in the fearful event it might be spread around and you're mocked for your interest. Now, I don't give a monkey's who knows I watch it. My friends have all seen my DVD collection and they know I'm an avid fan of the series. People can say what they want but they're just words at the end of the day. And no amount of words will deter me from doing what I like doing. Who are they to judge? ;)

I was very lucky in that I used to have a couple of friends who I watched LBT with. I still remember one of them saying "Erika, you'll never guess what happens in this one! Littlefoot finds his father!" right when the tenth one came out :p
Nowadays we've drifted apart, and most of them have moved away from LBT. The group of people I run with now is well aware of my love for LBT, I make sure of that :lol Most of them really hate the sequels, but I have enough of a reputation as a girl that you don't want to mess with to keep them from bugging me about it. They're generally pretty cool in regards to it, though. A couple of them actually watched LBT 7 with me over break. Now that was ridiculously fun. I'll agree, LBT is better when you watch it with friends.

Well to be honest only my mom,you guys and the members of Fanfiction.net are the only people who know I like LBT. after I turned 12 I got over it for years I hadn't even known it existed anymore but once you watched LBT once you can't keep it out of your life, 2008 Land Before Time returned and really I think it was the one thing that made my childhood not every day could you pop in a DVD watch it at one point say "hey I remember that" but apperently there are alot of people who say your immature or retarded if you haven't gotten over it by 10 or 11 now I just turned 15 on Aug.2 and yet I remain a big LBT fan and still I see no reason why people should be calling us retarded or immature etc. all because we're trying to hold what's precious to us when I'm on a LBT site and someone walks in,sure I'll quickly bring the the page down but still I see no reason to why people should insult us all because we're LBT fans trust me,I know someone who's like 30 who's still fond of The Land Before Time and sure it may not be my favorite movie but it sure is ONE of my favorite films and therefore its fair and yes I watch it alone.

i usually watch the sequels in my room, but i'll watch the original one in the living room. my mom knows i watch it (since she's the one who gets them for me). my  15 yr old brother knows, he doesn't watch them, we had  conversation about it today while watching Jurassic Park 3, so i guess he likes it alittle, but obviously not as much as much me! :)

my friends like it alittle, i think.  i remember watching #7 with them a few years ago, they weren't as interested as me, but it was nice having company. but nowadays it's just me, myself, and I. One of my friends is borrowing my 4th movie right now, she says it's her favorite because of a scene she likes, and she likes If We Hold On Together, but she doesn't watch the 1st movie cause she doesn't like sad scenes (same goes for Lion King, Bambi, etc.), sucks for her though, she don't know what she's missing

I remember this one time in middle school someone sitting next to me asked if i watched LBT, I nodded, she said she watched it, then we went back to work.

Soooo....i have no one to watch it with, though it be nice if i did. *sigh* i'm in college, so my chances of finding another LBT fan are probably slim (though i could be wrong, i've seen people wearing Dora the Explorer backpacks in high school, so...idk)

Oh well, right now i'll just watch them by myself, i still enjoy them.
wow, i wrote a lot.  o.o;

My friend still has yet to watch the movie i let her borrow...i think i reawakened her interest in it though, because we did a crossover role-play w/ LBT not too long ago. It was fun.  =3

*My first post in a English Forum*

I decided one week ago to watch all the 13 Land Before Time movies and the cartoon series... and I watched them alone. I'm 16 years old and normally I watch horror and splatter movies, but "Land Before Time" is an exception because I grew up with these movies and I simply wanted to watch them again... and I really like all of the sequels.

My friends don't know anything about it, but I don't think that they would bother me only because I watch cartoon films. My brother and my father also don't know anything, only my mother knows that I'm watching them.

I'm not sure how I missed this thread but in any case here it goes.

Most of my family members know I watch LBT so that doesn't really bother me although my brother gives me a hard time when I even mention the franchise, but I just tell to be quiet and let it be.

Now on to the rather touchy subject of my friends. Having a substantial group of friends when one of them learned I watched the movies the others eventually picked up on it, and for about a month and a half they would bring it up when they could, and for a while I hated it but then one day I came to a rather unique realization...the LBT was an embodiment of my childhood and I wasn't going to let that go. So I asked my friends the last time we were all together if they had any cartoons or movies from their childhood that they just couldn't go without and they mentioned several that are classics...however one of my buddies however said he didn't have a favorite movie or cartoon and that prompted the rest of us to laugh as we joked about him not having a childhood and the rest of the night we just traded barbs back and forth about movies, cartoons and what we believed to be the best of the best in both categories.

So I suppose on the fact that they know isn't a problem for me, I simply ignore the jeers they make and usually have a comeback to counter, so it's for me it's okay. :yes

What's wrong with Flip Flap and Fly???
Definitely one of the best songs of LBT, and about purpose - I think this song was soo bright, colorful, it was entertaining  and it's morale is being yourself wherever you are, no matter in what situation you are and also it shows Mo once again!
But 3-d song of LBT 13 was really odd, "trust your tummy" who made this up???If the dinosaurs of LBT can't use word Heart then the song writers shouldn't have used the other silly term!

There are a couple of LBT songs which turn my stomach.  The three bad one's are Flip Flap & Fly, Oops Eeps, and a part of How do you Know.  How do you Know was a really nice song, but Petrie goes and slaughters it with that tummy part.  If you look at the gang as he says it, they look like they're thinking "Gee Petrie....OMG that was lame". :lol

Oh, but I guess that duet between Petrie and Guido in the TV episode The Hermit of Blackrock was pretty bad too.  I dunno.  I've only watched that episode once. :p

Yeah, it kinda ruined the song because of Petrie's tummy...  :p

...

Anyway, I watch movies alone in general. Whether it's LBT or a different movie.
My family always talk while watching and that gets really on my nerves.  <_<

Nobody knows that I watch LBT, because everyone that I know here in my country (Indonesia) doesn't even know about that movie. But if I tell my friends what LBT is and let them know that I watch it, they'll probably only make fun of me, considering how ret***ed their behaviour is in school, and the fact they always like to call me as "not cool" and a "goodie-goodie"... <_<

My family would be okay with me watching LBT, though they already know that I mostly like watching cartoons, so, what the heck. They don't like to watch cartoons anyway. :p

First I watched The Land Before Time when I was about 4 or 5 and it was sooo awesome!!The next time was about 8 years old. Then when I was about 10 I wanted to watch it when it was shown on TV but my mother said" You watched it 3 times already, and it is for little kids" something like that. When I was 12 I got a chance to remember long forgotten(I don't remember why) LBT, but the seconds movie, I waited until mother gone, and took a VHS from my little friend, he is 4 years younger than me, and watched it.Can't say I was impressed, I was expecting something better, but it was good anyway. The next day I re-watched it and gave the VHS back to friend.I thought  LBT isn't as good as it was the first one.
The I didn't see LBT for 5 years, until I finally got a chance to download all the movies of LBT (THANK YOU INTERNET :lol  ) and did it I started watching all movies one by one every night, sometimes even 2 per evening, it made very good dreams. I was watching it on my laptop, that's why I bought it in the first place for not letting others see what I'm watching. Now I watch my favorite sequels of LBT every night before sleep, it makes forgetting about troubles  :angel
And I forgot to say, that when I was about 11 or 12 I sworn that I will never forget Dinosaurs and Dragons, who always were my favorite. and I didn't and really happy about it because this oath made me happier , than I would be without it. I always find a sanctuary in watching Sequels, because, they are so light hearted, so peaceful, they make forget about evil around.
My mother now even shames me for watching cartoons like The Mask and Men in Black, what do you think she would say about LBT? :lol
I only told my cousin about watching it, after several days of begging me to tell what I'm hiding. At first he didn't look so surprised, but more I was showing him of LBT, more he... so to say was turning away from me I wanted him to watch LBT 12 cause I find it the most family-like of all movies, but he refused. The only thing he liked was Song "Me no want new home" in TV series which is my favorite song in the series by the way.
Sooo I just wish I could watch LBT with someone, but can't find such a person, I found one 11 years boy who loves LBT, but I only prefer watching in in English, because translation to Russian is awful, so I told him" Learn English at school, and in the next year I come back(He lives far away from me) We'll watch Land before Time together in English  ;)  " so now he's learning it very well  :goodluck
I don't like translation of LBT from eng to rus mainly because of songs, they sound so childish! about 2 times more than original, I don't know why but Russians care about many cartoons, but not this one, I never saw any sequel shown on our TV, maybe they think LBT is for babies
 :cry

I know your feeling on the translated versions Petrie-manynumbers. They don't show tv episodes in our country either and the translations are really quite terrible usually.

As for who I watch with... With anyone I like really. I watch it alone, with my family, friends or online friends, nobody cares, most people actually like my land before time and lion king addiction :D

I did not fancy LBT XIII. I have three other members here who can testify for that.  :lol

I watch LBT alone, from time to time when I feel for it.
The only company I've had watching them are with other members of this baord.
Those moments are something I value highly!  :yes

Though nobody in my family has "caught" me watching it, I'm pretty sure they know I do. I rarely talk about it, but it's not like I'm keeping it a secret either.

If I had a chance I would cover all walls in my room with LBT posters,( but not which are from DVD-s :oops , these pictures look too baby-like, awful)   :confused , but I can't because
1 My mother and all people who come in room will say, "you are such a kid!"
and  people won't ever get me seriously
2 My printer is broken and somehow I just have no time\money to fix it or buy the new one...., so silly
But when I get a good job and my own flat I'll cover my walls with all my favorite cartoon characters like Stanley Ipkis from "The Mask" series did  :lol
I'll make a sound isolation and huge sound system watching my favorite shows without always using headphones to hide my secret  :lol

Well, since I just got an email urging me to post before my account here gets deleted, might as well reply to this one. I make it no secret I watch cartoons. Most people know this. LBT is just one of many animated movies and series I like, own, watch and talk about.

On a side note, I'm currently in the Philippines for an internship (I'm from the Netherlands) and the DVD's you buy here here are all illegal. You will really have to look hard to find a legal DVD. If you buy one, you get about 5 - 10 movies. I saw LBT, and I hadn't seen it in a while, so I bought it. Thing is, you can't see on the front which movies are on there. In this case a total of 4 LBT movies (+ various others). Could have done worse :p.

Wow, you joined as early as 2004! In all the years a lot has happened in the GOF by now we have quite a few other fans from the Netherlands in our community.
Please don't misunderstand the mail you (and everyone else with no or few posts got) as a challenge but as an invitation. It would be a pleasure to have you with us in our discussions or in threads which you might create yourself. The GOF covers a very large spectrum rather than LBT only after all. Welcome back :)

I watch LBT. And my parents know too. And my mom likes it but much less than me. I'll probably NEVER reveal that I love LBT in public. I'm just too afraid. If I had the choice I would watch it in the dead of night when everybody's asleep and can't hear or see a thing I'm doing. A few of my friends know I like it. But I'm not going to tell them just how much. It's actually scary to me to reveal my secret. To just come out and announce that I like it. No way. Theres not a snowballs chance in heck you would ever catch me doing THAT.  And when I do watch it, I alway's look behind my shoulder and if anyone's watching I immediatly pause it, turn the tv off, and say, "why are you staring at me?" Then, I would make sure their not looking and get back to enjoying it.

Who knows that I watch the Land Before Time?  Well, it is general knowledge amongst my family that I own the original Land Before Time film, as it was a gift to me from when I was a relatively young child.  That is the only film from the series that I watch on a regular basis and I fell no embarrassment if people know that fact.  However, none of my family or friends know that I occasionally watch the sequels and I plan on keeping it that way.

I believe it's against the forum rules to post links to websites that host the LBT movies. Jjackknife, they are there, but I'm afraid we can't help you much without causing copyright infringement and putting the forum at risk.

As for me, just about everyone knows I watch LBT, and they really don't care. I like what I like, and if my two top interests are dinosaurs and aeroplanes, then so be it! I tend to watch it alone, though. They know, but they're not interested, which is perfectly fine with me. We're all different. :yes

Given that I have LBT charms and stickers on my water bottles and that I'm rather outspoken about my love of LBT, I think pretty much everyone knows I like LBT, and I actually have some friends who are fellow LBT fans. Most people seem to be cool with it, with the exception of my mother and my grandmother. Despite generally being cool with--and in fact liking--that I love children's movies, they really don't like how into LBT I am for some reason, likely because of how much I love it, the fact that they don't remember me seeing it as a kid and it's a lot like some movies I was steered away from as a kid (*cough*BAMBI*cough*), and in the case of my grandmother, I think she also doesn't like me being into LBT because it's caused a good bit of friction between my mother and me. For a little bit there, they were even kinda tepid about the fact that I love dinosaurs independent of LBT. :rolleyes

As for watching LBT alone, I obviously don't watch it with my family, but when I'm away at college and have some free time, I sometimes watch LBT in the lounge of my residence hall with one or two of my LBT loving friends, and sometimes I do watch it alone.

Well, ever since I started watching LBT again last year, the only people whom have since found out are you guys, of course, my followers on FanFiction.Net and DeviantArt, and my youngest brother (who is 17), who knows nothing about LBT. Oh, and the professor and students in the video post-production class I took last semester, just before graduating from community college. Apparently, many of them, too, have old memories of watching LBT as kids.

I would prefer to watch them alone, which I can easily do since I have the movies and the TV series on my laptop. In fact, for a long time, I've been secretive about my love for most of the kids shows I loved as a kid, notably Thomas the Tank Engine (at least until I finally met someone on DeviantArt who also was a longtime Thomas fan, and we've since become close friends on DA). I think my Asperger Syndrome is part of the reason why I'm not up for openly revealing my love for LBT to my family or any of my friends, since I'm not one who likes being teased in public and I'd much rather be spared of that.

Personally, I would think that it would be a crime to not recognize the original Land Before Time as one of those ever-so-important movies that all ages can watch because of the message it brings, not just for being a lovable "children's" movie. It is recognized as one of the greatest dinosaur movies ever, and it was in the midst of the late 80's boom of animated films, along with "The Brave Little Toaster" and "All Dogs Go to Heaven," so why do people make fun of those who love LBT? Why are we living in a world where we're having to try to keep it secret from the public eye just because such others would look down on us for still loving our most beloved kids' movies and believing us to be, ... well, ... no, I'm not gonna say it. My point is that these are the movies that taught us so much in our childhoods, and to not be able to keep watching them because we're presumably meant to grow out of them is just ... wrong. I love LBT, I'll always love LBT, and no stupid opinions from anyone in my family or my friends who may think otherwise can take that love away from me. I grew up watching them, and my mind has grown to never stop loving them even long after I've matured.

Well, as someone whose family doesn't like him being into LBT, I definitely will say that if, for any reason, you don't want to reveal your love of LBT to any particular person, don't. Letting my family find out that I'm into LBT was a BIG mistake.

The funny thing is that when I first got back into LBT, I didn't let a single soul know about it (in person or even online) for a little while, and my family was among the last to find out. I totally agree with what you said, DiddyKF1. LBT deserves much more love and recognition than it gets, even with it currently being regarded as one of the best dinosaur movies ever made (in fact, WatchMojo ranked it as the second best dinosaur movie behind Jurassic Park!).

I am 19 and in college, and I too will ALWAYS love LBT, regardless of what ANYONE thinks of LBT or those who like it as adults, and regardless of how much lip I get from my family. I honestly think I would still like LBT a real lot even if I hadn't grown up with it. I wholeheartedly think that LBT should be solidly cemented (err, fossilized) as a great classic like a lot of Disney movies are, and when I have kids, I will show them LBT, and I will not give them ANY lip if they still like it in their college years and beyond. The biggest slap in the face for me about my family not liking my love of LBT is that they're cool with me liking kids' movies in general, especially ones they remember me growing up with (for example, they're perfectly cool with my Lion King obsession and my super excitement to see the new Winnie the Pooh movie), and they also like dinosaurs to boot, yet they're in a big tizzy over the fact that I love "that ghastly movie with the dinosaur whose mother dies".

Although, having said that, I am happy to say that, as previously mentioned, most people outside of my family seem to be cool with me liking LBT, and some of my very best friends are fellow LBT fans, so I really don't think LBT fans are held in such low regards by society, but only by a few bad apples (and sadly for me, my mother and grandmother are.two such bad apples).

I'm lucky to say that I have a couple friends who have watched LBT with me and some more who know that I've watched all the movies. My family is a completely different matter. They all know that I've watched the movies in the past but have no idea that I'm still pretty big into them. None of my friends or family know that I'm part of an online LBT group or that I have gotten into drawing fanart and currently I don't have plans to let them know.

That being said, as some of you might already know from seeing my post in the 'Show us yourself' topic, I have a LBT T-shirt that I have on some occasions busted out and worn out in public. The first being during a trip down to a dinosaur museum in June and the second was during opening night of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Both times led to a couple of fun comments that people made, and I don't regret wearing it at all :lol

I would do the same as well. Actually, my friend has a son now and for his first birthday I gave him all of the LBT DVDs that I owned at the time (that being 1, 9, 11, 12, 14). I'm hoping that he gets into LBT in some degree (though it was also because I also bought the 14 box set :p )

But nowadays, I just prefer to watch them alone, and it’s probably gonna stay that way, lol. :p

I typically watch the LBT films alone. For me each film has a touch of melancholy. I can remember when I saw each installment of the LBT anthology. I remember I use to watch as many of the films as I could tell the wee hours in the morning. There was comfort in the adventures of the Gang of Five and oh so many memories. I still think the films can transport you to a imaginitive paradise where dinosaurs become like family members.

My family used to know that I watched a lot of LBT back in the day, but at the present time nobody. May have something to do with the fact that I was actually the only one in the entire family to watch. I don't think any of my friends really watch this kind of stuff. I was basically the singleton. Now I watch LBT at least once a day.  :lol

I remember back when I was in elementary school, my family owned the original LBT on VHS, so my parents probably watched it with me a couple times. And I can remember seeing some of the sequels at school, as the series was quite popular back then. Nowadays, with the 14-film DVD set I own, I watched that all by myself, as I don't hang out with anyone else who likes LBT as much as I do. But then again, I watch a lot of movies on my own anyway, as I live by myself.

My mother and brother know that I'm an LBT fan and they're both okay with it, and I don't think I'd have any problem telling people that the first film is my favourite animated movie (which I have done a few times). But beyond that, my enjoyment of the series isn't really something I want to openly show off (outside of this forum, of course). I try not to be embarassed, but it can be hard sometimes. Like with Flathead, I too have an LBT shirt, although I do not wear it often.

To elaborate on why I say this, Land Before Time is really not well-known here despite the fact that there is a Universal Studios theme park with Jurassic Park attractions.

The reason I bring this up is because I literally jusr remembered about this incident that took place about 3-4 years ago with a friend of mine, which was literally one of only two times Land Before Time has ever been brought up in conversation in my real life thus far.

Friend A: *approaches me* "Hey, do you know the Land Before Time?"
Me: *widened eyes, about to speak up*
Friend A: *continues without a beat, face completely serious* "Do you know that Judith Barsi was—"
Me: *realizes where conversation is going, hastily cuts friend off from fact-drop* "Yes, I do." Deadpan pause. "I already know what happened to her." :sducky

For context, the only other time was:
DVD Seller: I can give you 1 free for 2! What you want?
Me: *points to bargain bin DVD seller* So I want this... dinosaur movie. (actually LBT5)

So yeah, it's really not easy to talk to others in real life about this dinosaur movie. Most don't even know it exists. :(

I tend to watch it alone. When my nephew was a little paleontologist, he watched LBT incessantly and obsessively. My parents watched the I-III, after that they only caught glimpses of IV-X.

One of the reasons I joined this community, is I wanted to find LBT fans who love the franchise as much as I.  :)petrie

My family knows, that I watched it in my elementary school days, when they watched it too, but I do not bring it up on my own, since when I started watching it again, because I do not know many people, who openly admit to watch child cartoons, when they are adults, and there certainly are people, who would tell, that I am childish or another sort of thing. I would tell only, if I knew, that someone else is a fan. And this applies to many other movies, pc games, etc..

A little update since I got back into it. Well my mom and I were sharing a hotel room the other day and I was itching to draw some dinos. She of course noticed and was like, "Oh are you back into Land Before Time?" I was half expecting a jokey judgement from her but then she told me she saw a bunch of LBT toys in IKEA and asked if I wanted her to get them the next time she went. Uh, yes please!

So far my mom and my bestie know I'm back into the series but I'll always watch it alone.

This has been an interesting thred to read. It seems like it's almost universal that people don't really talk about their interest in LBT to real-life friends and/or family. Of course I assume that the majority of this forum's userbase is from the USA, but I wouldn't be surprised if this phenomenon reached other countries and continents as well.

As for me, personally, it's kinda 50/50. Now that I'm an adult I honestly don't care what other people think. Of course it's not the first thing I say about myself when I meet other people, but if it ever comes up, I won't shy away from the subject or deny anything. I unironically enjoy this film series and have grown past my shame of enjoying it.

As a child, maybe up until I was 7, I was open about it, because I think it was more acceptable to like them as I was part of the target audience. Older kids didn't watch them so once I became older, I didn't tell anyone I liked the movies anymore. I felt shame when I asked my mom if she could go and rent the 10th movie that just came out, but in all honesty... my mom was very understanding. She didn't judge me, but despite her kindness I felt awkward about it. I have two older siblings who are five and four years older than me, and sometimes they made snarky remarks about me liking LBT movies but it was never with ill intent.

Once I met my future husband at the age of 15, I was hyped to know that he, too, was an LBT fan and that we shared the same favorite characters and movies! Fast forward ten years and we've collected the movies (DVDs and VHS) and once binge watched them all in two days with my sister-in-law. It was good fun and while we didn't convert her to be a hard-core LBT fan, she was still glad about the experience.

Also my school-mates from the university of applied sciences knew about me being a fan, and once we watched the first movie together. It felt great, considering that every one of them is into animation (I mean, that was our line of study lol) and no-one judges each other for their preferences and interests. Also some of them hadn't seen the movie before, so it was interesting to hear their opinions on it, too.

But nowadays if I watch LBT movies, it's either with my husband or alone. Usually when he's out of town, I watch the seventh film or just put it on the background, as it is one of my go-to comfort films. But if I ever feel like watching those films with anyone, I'll just simply ask them.

My family knows I'm into LBT, yep yep yep :duckyhappy

As for watching it with others, I usually watch it by myself, but there was one exception. A long time ago in a Great Valley far far away, I watched the first LBT with my younger stepsister, who’s always liked the movies. At the time she was a bit of a cynic, and the only ones in the gang she liked were Littlefoot and Ducky…oof  :p
These days though she’s warmed to Spike considerably. Well she had a kid recently and she’s now grateful for his quietness :p
I think she’s better with Petrie now too. But Cera…nope, still badmouths the threehorn all the time. Though it probably doesn’t help she didn’t even realize movie 12 (one of the better ones for the Ceranator) existed.

My sister used to HATE when I would watch any of The Land Before Time movies, and would tell all her friends that I liked them in order to allow them to make fun of me, and would even tell some of my would-be friends, so they would think I was weird, and that I wouldn’t have any friends at school. It was so cruel. My mom was a bully and would make fun of me as well and would say stuff like “You’re such a baby!” just because I still liked cartoons. My dad, while not a bully, was old school and was just like “You’re too old to be watching those movies!”

As I got older, I realized I can watch whatever the heck I want. I can watch more mature TV shows like True Blood, 13 Reasons Why, Breaking Bad, and Euphoria just to name a few, all of which I love to death. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t slip a few Land Before Time movies under the radar as well. While the sequels aren’t exactly masterpieces (yet I still love and enjoy many of them), the first one IS a masterpiece and is one of my favorite films of all time.

I have struggled with some very real things in my life (anxiety, depression, mental health problems, and other things I can’t say on here) and watching The Land Before Time movies honestly kind of levels me out.

Watching these movies, even if you have to watch them alone, is not hurting anybody. If it makes you happy, then you should be able to watch them as much as you want.

When I was about 13 years old, I got into the fandom pretty hard. I would watch the movies and the episodes anywhere I could, including the family tv. During that time everyone knew I loved lbt.

Eventually, I started to get embarrassed when my sister (who is the same age as me) started to get into more mature content. This started when I was 15, and although, I was still in the fandom, but since I’m too anxious, I continue to do things in the community. Now days my family thinks I moved on, but my sister might be on to me since she saw me drawing dinosaurs lol.

This is something that’s always got me wondering, and I’m finally glad I got to put my thoughts in a post!

I think if people are honest, they love things from childhood. I mean I am feeling called back to Power Rangers, I even see gals of my age have the Mighty Morphin beep on their cell phones. I think the segregation of childhood is over, people seem to embrace attachment to favorite cartoons, creatures, art and etc.

these are all really interesting, I also forgot to mention that  I have the whole movie collection, but I haven't been able to watch anything because my computer is in the living room and my 17 year old self feels embarrassment if someone walks in. I stil do a lot of land before time related things, such as reading fanfiction, writing fanfiction, and drawing dinos.

Often, when I go on GOF, my brother will see me typing out posts and looking at threads. It's kinda funny becuase you know the browser symbol for GOF is a treestar? Well he jokingly thinks I do weed. It doesn't help my case when I tell him. "I'm on a thing called the gang of five."  And he'll say, "You're in a gang too?"  :DD

So I guess it's just my sister and my brother who know I'm still into this franchise. And honestly, I don't care if they judge me or not, It's my parents that I'm worried about.
