100,000 posts?

I agree with your statement, Austin. I personally would have less posts, but they were all meaningful, than a lot of posts for something completely miscellaneous. However, I love Word Connection and Word Association. They are fun.

I decided to do a little math. In this case, I'll assume that we are at 100,000 posts and there are 200 members. This means that the average number of posts any member on GOF makes is 500.

Now I'll compare that to another forum I'm familiar with, bzpower (the bionicle fansite). They recently hit 5,000,000 posts, and there are nearly 40,000 members. This means that the average number of posts for any member there is only 125.

Considering this, I believe that what makes GOF so great is not the number of members, but the activity of those members. We probably have a large percentage of members here who join and become active rather than join, stay for a bit, and then leave.

Actually of the more than 200 members of the GOF only a bit more than 60 have more than 100 posts. There is a considerable number of members with more than 50 but less than 100 posts, but that number was smaller than that of the ones with more than 100 posts last time I checked. There are quite a few who never posted or posted less than 10 times.
These numbers need not be interpreted as a bad message though. They go to show that it doesn't take 200 people to get a community as active as the GOF is.

Yes but presumably that other forum will have non-active members too, so it should balance out... sort of...

It is quite amazing that so few people could have made so many posts in only a few years.  You'd think we're all obsessive compulsive people who don't get out much.

I will probably not notice when we reach 100,000 unless i look at the number or someone says something about it.
