Weirdly people are rarely addressed as "mein Freund" (my friend) in Germany. Sort of sad

Usually with "Du" or by name. The "Sie" in German is for more official occasions. There is not such a differentiation in English ever since the though (wich was simmilar to the German "Du") passed away, is there?
