Hello together,

I've noticed that some of you had problems to find the links for the available galleries of some artists (e.g. Malte's and Littlefoot's) like pictures, drawings, cumputerart and so on. I've made four possible proposals:

01: http://home.arcor.de/balticda/lbt/gallerie.../pictures01.htm
02: http://home.arcor.de/balticda/lbt/gallerie.../pictures02.htm
03: http://home.arcor.de/balticda/lbt/gallerie.../pictures03.htm
04: http://home.arcor.de/balticda/lbt/gallerie.../pictures04.htm

please choose your favorite one and post your decision here.

Bye
Christian

Hi Christian!
I'd go for number 01. The tiny difference of making the links appear bigger than the script in the profile already makes it much easier to recognize the links as such.  :)

Hi Malte,

I like number 01, too. But I'm also thinking about number 04, because the links in the pull-down menu (e.g. fanart, storypics and filmpics) have the same stile.

Right you are. I have to admit that I didn't take this agreement of the links' style in when I made my first choice. Number 4 is definitely a good variant too. Number 2 however is the variant I would definitely not choose, because it robs the links of the effect of becoming underlined when the cursor is on them.

What does everyone else here think? Feel free to speak your mind.  :)

I'm going to choose #2 because you can tell there are links there, and most people associate an underlined word with being a link to click on. ;)  None of the other three have that.

Hi Arvens,

thanks for your opinion. #2 has e good optical look, but in this point Malte is right: links don't become underlined, when the corsur is over them... what about #4?

I use Firefox and no links are underlined except in #2.  -_-   When you "hover" over the links in #4 they underline, but on first glance I would never know they were links. ;)

It's a nice effect, but what good is the effect if the people viewing the page have no idea they're there?

but the links in the pull down menu (e.g. Galleries, Fanart, Storypics) are also links which aren't underlined. Although you know, that these are links. The underline-effect is  for a better optical navigation, so that you can realize more easier, when the cursor is over a link. On the whole site, there are no underlined links. That was my intent, because underlined links are always the same... you can find this so often all over the net.
I also use Firefox, additionally Netscape and Internet Explorer to optimize the website for the browsers, which are used most frequently.
Thanks again for the screenshots of LBT 9!!! I'll try to put them online as fast as possible!

No, your intentions are fine...I know the "it doesn't look like a link" option but I would've never known those were links.

Maybe if the text itself before you hover over it is of a different color might draw attention to it....

I've tryed out other colors, but only white or black can be read good enough.
I always design my sites after the principle "less is more". It would not look very well to use a completely new color only because of these links. Believe me, I'm learning digital media designer since over 2 years. Normally it would suffice to let the links like they are at the moment, at least because of the design. There is not very much text on the separate artist sites, so everybody, who would read a little bit, would see the words: "avaiable galleries" and would know, that the following words "pictures, drawings, computerart and artwork" have a function, if you click on it.
But other opinions are also important for me, because of that I started this posting.

I guess if #4 is the other choice, I'll put my vote in for #4 as well.  I suppose most would figure out in due time if there are links there or not. ;)

Hi Arvens,

sorry, I think my last argumentation because of the links was a bit to rouh...

I've taken #4 now. I also asked a friend about the different layouts, and she also decided for #4. And she had a good additional proposal: the active link should be in white color, the rest in bright grey. So it becomes more clearer, in wich category you are at the monent and I hope that it also becomes clearer, that these are links.

I like the new banner of this forum!!! Did you made it? Which prgramm has been used to create this banner?
And I like the new background very much! I think, postings are better to read now!!

Yes the banner is mine, and I used Microsoft's Digital Image Pro 9.0 to make it.  It's very similar to Adobe Photoshop Elements, except it's not as power hungry as PS is.

I had figured while I was changing images around I'd try some new backgrounds as some were complaining that picture made it hard to read the text. ;)
