Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: pokeplayer984 on January 01, 2006, 09:57:50 AM
Okay, the rules of this game are simple.

I will put in a little statement about something and you try to guess whether that statement is Fact (True) or Crap! (False)

If you guess it right, it's your turn to give a Fact or Crap! statement.

Now, here's the catch, you have to explain why it's Fact or Crap!  Otherwise, your answer won't count.

There's also another thing, you must wait for confirmination of your answer before you can post a Fact or Crap! statement.  If this rule is broken, the statement you posted won't count.  However, you will be given 24 hours to put in a new statement to redeem yourself.  If you do not post a new one within 24 hours, it becomes a free-for-all (meaning anyone can give one.), with the exception that the one who broke this rule can't post one.

If you post a Fact or Crap! statement when it's not your turn, it won't count.

Here's a little example I'll start with:

In the original LBT movie, Ducky is refered as a Duckbill.

Answer: Crap!  In the original movie, Ducky was refered as a swimmer by Littlefoot's mother and as a bigmouth by the narrorator.

-------

Now, time for the real one...

Fact or Crap!

Because of all his hard work, Charles Dickens, the author of A Christmas Carol, was actually quite rich through his life.

---------

Okay, go for it guys! :)

Post by: Malte279 on January 01, 2006, 11:02:00 AM
I think that would be a fact if you are refering to the end of his life and crap if you refer to the beginning. He started out very poor having to work in a factory as a child and being unable to attend school regularly because of his families' poverty. He worked his way up though and two years before his death he was rich enough to buy a mansion. I respect Dickens for his not forgetting about the poor when becoming successful. To this day the rich and well off often blame the poor for their poverty rather than seriously trying to help and respect them.

Having this 50:50 chance for the answer I will say Crap interpreting your "through his life" to include the early life of Dickens during which he was really very poor.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: pokeplayer984 on January 01, 2006, 03:42:14 PM
You are correct, Malte.  I was indeed also referring to the early parts of his life.

However, I suspect not many people taking his work seriously, based on the fact of how poorly written they were.  They did get the main storyline, plot and message out nicely, I'll give him that.  Sadly though, they had multiple spelling and grammer mistakes. (Heck, I'm making a little story based on Charles Dickens most famous of all stories and am having a hard time making it as accurate as possible.) :o

I highly doubt some readers felt that they needed 4 long paragraphs reffering of how important death was to a story.  I highly doubt anyone needed that at all really.

His books often show the rewards we get from the good deeds we do in life.  For instance, as I saw with a South Park retelling of "Great Exceptations," it showed how a single good deed of helpping a stranger at his lowest point in life can reward you quite greatly in your later life.

I can indeed understand his work quite greatly.  I feel that, despite Charles Dickens actually being dead, he is one author that will never truly die.

Well, since you caught me there, Malte, it's your turn.

And don't forget, your statement can be ANYTHING!

EDIT:  Junior Post!!  I'm now a Petrie. :)

Not quite anything  ;)  If one came up with statements to which one would have to answer by giving opinions rather than facts it wouldn't work out.

Fact or Crap, "Benjamin Franklin's inventions include a music instrument".

Fact.  I believe it was called the armonica.  I was going to post a picture of it but I forgot how to post images.  Can someone remind me, please?  Speaking of crap, that is what the weather has been doind sinse thursday.  We have had a tornado outbreak and everything.  Not uncommon for this time of year.  See Strange Weather that I posted in th fridge.

Quite right F-14. For some reason the armonica has almost been forgotten. I'm wondering what it sounds like. For all I know it is based on the same kind of sound production that creates sounds if you rub over the edge of a wine glas with a wet finger. Your turn F-14.

Fact or crap:
The worst tornado in US history was the tri-state tornado in 1925 that tore across three states.  By the way, whoever responds to this, please tell me how to post pictures.  Please.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 02, 2006, 02:32:32 PM
If the term "tornado" excludes "hurricane" Katrina and if the number of deads is to be the measure on what tornado is the worst the tri-state tornado of 1925 would be the worst in US history leaving 695 people dead and more than 2000 injured.

You know how to post pictures. You already did so in the favorite computer game thread. You attach the pictures to the message using the bar you will find below the post icons.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: F-14 Ace on January 02, 2006, 03:40:38 PM
You are correct.  But tornados and hurricanes are two different things.  A hurricane covers a large area and can last weeks.  Tornados on the other hand usually spawn from thunderstorms (although thet can form at any time) and rarely last more than a few minutes and are usually pretty weak.  THe tir-state tornato was one unusual exception.  It lasted for houres and now some people believe it might have been several tornados.  This has yet to be proven though.   :yes
Alright, I know what to do now.  Earlier, the "File attachment" bar was not showing up.  It is now, though.  It won't give me that option when I am editing a post thoigh.  Why is this?

Fact or Crap: By remaining in office for more than two terms US president Franklin D. Roosevelt broke the 22nd amendment of the constitution which was forgiven though because nobody wanted to change Presidents during WW2 anyway.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: F-14 Ace on January 02, 2006, 05:44:09 PM
Crap!  I do believe the 22nd amendment was made after WWII, 1951 to be exact.  Before that, presidents could run as mant times as they wanted as far as I know.  I could be wrong so please correct me if I am.  Actually, I just looked it up.  I am not sure if that is cheating but anyway, the following text came from Wikipedia on the 22nd amendment:  Prior to the adoption of the amendment, the constitution set no limit on the number of presidential terms. The United States Congress proposed the amendment on March 21, 1947. It was ratified by the requisite number of states on February 27, 1951.  The link is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22nd_amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22nd_amendment)
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Nick22 on January 02, 2006, 06:48:46 PM
it is indeed crap Malte as the amendment wasn't added until after FDRs death. The Amendment was passed to prevent another FDR, although Truman as the president in office when the amendment went into effect , was exempt(he could have served as many terms as he wanted). The "2 term limit' was really an tradition, rather than law.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 02, 2006, 07:37:22 PM
The statement was as craby as a statement can get ;)
I even provided an excuse why a break of constitution might have been tolerated. Till then indeed there had been only the example Washington had set by resigning after two terms and nobody had ever considered (or at least not attempted) to go for a third term. The 22nd Amendment was passed in 1951. Your turn F-14.

Fact or crap...
Here is an interesting one.  Okey, someone wrote a story about a ship callet the Titan.  It was to be the largest ship ever built and was said to be unsinkible.  While on its first voyage, in the month of April in the North Atlantic, the ship struck an ice burg and sank.  Hundreds of people died as there were not enough lifeboats for everyone.  This was in a novel written 14 years before the Titanic sank so basically, someone predicted the Titanic disaster.  Fact or crap?
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 04, 2006, 05:40:56 AM
I think it's a fact. I'm not a hundred percent certain, but I'm quite sure I read something like this when Titanic came to the cinemas.

Sorry pokeplayer, next time then, or if you answer this fact or crap correctly.
Fact or Crap:
Most of the hundreds of American civilians killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor were killed by Japanese fighter planes strafing them.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: F-14 Ace on January 05, 2006, 08:23:07 AM
Crap!  Only 60 civilians died at Pearl Harbor and most of them died from falling debris.  I've heard this countless times on the History Channel.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 05, 2006, 09:54:35 AM
Double Crap indeed. There were 68 civilians killed at Pearl Harbor and 35 wounded. Many of the civilian casualties were in fact killed by American anti-aircraft shells that fell back onto Honolulu. I confess this Fact or Crap question of mine was partly motivated by the movie Pearl Harbor. I reckon I should add a post about that particular movie in the war in movies thread.
Your turn F-14.

Ok, fact or crap
The Lusitania was carrying weapons when it was torpedoed just as the crew of the u-boat suspected.

Here is a second one.
Fact or crap
The Lusitania was actually sunk by a second explosion and may have survived the torpedo hit.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 05, 2006, 07:52:26 PM
The first claim is a fact. Not that it would cast a better light on anyone, but the Louisitania did carry ammunition.
As for that second explosion claim I admit that I don't know it myself and according to what the internet provides the matter is still controversial. John Light claims there must've been such an explosion, Robert Ballart claims there can't have been. Either of them will know more about the Louisitania as I do (and so will you F-14). So I reckon I'm going to learn something here :)
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 05, 2006, 07:58:42 PM
Having read a little more it seems that there was a second explosion (so it would be fact) but they don't know for sure if it was the ammunition exploding, or if coal dust whirled up by the torpedo hit caused it, or if it was a steam explosion created by sea-water pouring onto the hot machinery.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: F-14 Ace on January 05, 2006, 08:08:16 PM
According to a book I have, Ballard claimed that the ammunition was intact and the torpedo apparently tore open a coal bunker.  He thought it was the coal dust but I heard on the History Channel that coal dust was watered down to prevent it from being ignited by sparks from machinery.  It is unlikely that the dust could have ignited.  I think the explosion was caused by the boilers exploding.  However, we may never know because the ship was depth charged by the Irish Navy for target practice and any trace of the cause of the second explosion has probably been lost.

Okay, here we go!

Fact or Crap: (Note: Due to this one being about religon, and some of you wanting nothing to do with that sort of thing, I will accept a wild guess.)

Wilford Wooddruff was the first Latter-Day Saint Prophet to record his own voice.

Oh, and Threehorn, I have posted the personality a few hours ago.  I hope you can understand it enough to work with as she is a tough one just to work with in the end.

Okay, I don't understand it, but why isn't anyone guessing the Fact or Crap! statement?

Maybe you just didn't see it.

Here it is again...

Fact or Crap!:

Wilford Wooddruff was the first Latter-Day Saint Prophet to record his own voice.

Look at that, nicely bolded this time! :^.^:

Hope you can see it better now. -_-
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on January 08, 2006, 07:38:36 PM
No problem with being unable to see or read as far as I am concerned.
I checked for it the day you posted it. I found no mention of any voice recordings while due to the ambiguity of the English word "record" I got heaps of religious material which I admit I was not particularly keen to read all through. Searching for the keyword "voice" in the texts also got me only information on what the "voice of the Lord" is supposed to be saying rather than anything about the voice of that Mr. Woodruff.
Only thing that would make the whole statement definitely Crap is the spelling. The guys name was Wilford Woodruff, not Wilford Wooddruff (cut out a d); but I expect that to be a typo rather than the point of making it fact or crap.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: F-14 Ace on January 08, 2006, 08:55:06 PM
I'd say it is crap since I could find no information about him recording his own voice.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: pokeplayer984 on January 10, 2006, 02:27:31 AM
Well, Malte, that was a typo indeed.

Okay, here's the actual truth guys.

The answer is... FACT!

I know what you're saying.  I too searched endlessly for a webpage that had such information, and found none.  Also, as far as I know, there is NO book that exists that proves this information.  The ONLY thing that has this proff is a little 2 minute video showing multiple pictures of him, with his own voice rerecorded right into it.  Which was his own testimony on Joseph Smith and the Latter-Day Saint Church.

He used, what he called, "a talking machine."

:lol Such simplicity.  He didn't even know the name for it, and yet, he figured out some way, quite quickly, to make us understand what he was using.

Trust me, I didn't even plan this one.  I just knew the answer without having to look up all the information.  Let's just say I'm as surprised as you guys are. :^.^:

If you must know the WHEN, it was the last year of his life, age 91.  Before the illness that killed him took over.  I don't have an exact date of when it was recorded, but it was indeed within the last year of his life.

He was indeed the first Latter-Day Saint Prophet to record his own voice.  Though there is only one piece of information that proves this, it is enough in the end.

Since no one could guess it right.  The next one is a free for all.

ANYONE can post a Fact or Crap! statement.

Though remember, only the FIRST one posted will count.

They cut away several meters of the pictures as it didn't fit into the building where it was supposed to hang. About three figures from the painting where completely removed. ^^Just because you can't find it on the net, doesn't nessacarily mean it's Crap!, though it is most likely.

You should've learned that from my last Fact or Crap! statement.  I really got everyone good with that, yet I didn't even plan it. (Still don't understand how come it's never been told about until now.)

Now, since you posted a Fact or Crap! statement without being confirmed whether or not it was Fact or Crap!, I'm afraid that statement has to be dismissed entirely.  In other words, it doesn't count.

I'm terribly sorry to do this, F-14, but I believe in fairness.  It was not fair of you to put in a statement without being confirmed whether you were right or not.

It was also most likely you were not right, based on the fact that Malte didn't post to confirm, though he had plenty of oppurtunities to do so.  I can see that Malte went at the same angle as me.  Put up a little something he knew would be hard to find.  I knew mine would be hard to find, based on the fact that religon is highly overlooked, but let's not get into that discussion.  We'll save that for After Midnight.

Anyways, as I was saying, because of what you did, your statement will not count.

Now, I'll be fair and give you 24 hours to post a new one.  If you do not post something within those 24 hours, I'll put one up myself.

Now, to ensure this will never happen again, I'll update the rules.

So, from this moment on, it is a rule that you need to be confirmed of your answer before you can post a new statement.

I'm rather disappointed at you, F-14.  I really thought you had enough common sense to realize that you were indeed wrong.  Do not always assume that something is Crap!, just because you couldn't find it.  Remember, the net doesn't contain ALL information, just NEARLY ALL.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to update the rules.

See ya later. ^_^

I think you are quite rude here about F-14. I am annoyed by the carelessness in answering the questions or about questions in other threads being answered incompletely as sometimes there seems to be not enough "enthusiasm" to post more than a sentence in a message. However, this is something I have grown used to from many people. As for myself I admit that I'm not overenthusiastic about anything that requires more than 10 minutes of research either (which is often the case if it comes to questions about barely known events or numbers).
Anyway, I do think it is really unfair if you act like F-14 was to blame for all this. This sounds really like a bad joke to me:

Is F-14 supposed to be thankful about anything? He posted a new question and who is willing to research about it can answer it. I sort of gave my "blessing" already telling F-14 and everyone to "go on". There is no point in changing the question until people show really distinct reluctance to answer it.
I don't know if there is any kind of quarrel between you that triggered this sudden reaction. If so, this definitely doesn't belong here!
I consider deleting this and your previous message pokeplayer.

Yes. It is still amazing, incredible almost, how several middle american people came up with inventions beyond anything Europe or China had seen by that time while in other fields they were lagging far behind (e.g. no use of metal harder than bronze, no realization of the wheel being more than a toy). If only those people hadn't been so horribly overthrown. I wonder what the world would look like today had it not been for them considering the new arrivers gods and had it not been for so many of them dying of the illnesses the Europeans brought along (many, many more native Americans died from these illnesses rather than from first degree murder).

Fact or Crap!: (Note: You just need your brilliant math mind to figure out this one.)

I am traveling from point A to point B and back.  If I travel from point A to point B at 30 mph, I have to go 90 mph from B to A to make the round trip average out at 60 mph.

Make's me wonder which it is. :)

Fact:

I'll just leave the equation (if I'm wrong then sorry I just came from a math olympics):

(30 + X)/2=60 <=> 15 + x/2 = 60 <=> x/2 = 45 <=> x= 90

If it's not like this I apologise (=

Okay, I'll give NewOrder credit for at least trying to prove it's fact, but seriously guys, the statement is 100% Crap!

This is a problem that has tricked even the greatest math experts for years, and ended up seriously questioning their skills in math.

The true answer is that this is impossible to do, NO MATTER WHAT!

How, you ask?

Here's the way it should be thought:

Let's pretend that the distance between A and B is 1 mile.  60 mph is a mile a minute.  In simple calculating, that makes the full distance to travel 2 miles and at 60 mph, would take 2 minutes.  Now, I traveled from A to B at 30 mph.  I went at half the required speed, so it took twice as long.  Meaning, it took me 2 minutes just to travel from A to B.  Since I just used up all of the required time to make it possible, there is no time left for the return trip.

I got this little problem from the book "Bet You Can't!  Science Impossiblities to Fool You!" It holds 82 tricks in it, all of which are impossible. (Some of which have possible pitfalls, though they are very few.)

Trust me, guys.  Do the math like I showed you, and it will prove to be 100% impossible.

Now, I'll be nice and give NewOrder a chance to put up a statement.

So, you're turn, NewOrder. ^_^

Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: pokeplayer984 on June 23, 2006, 01:44:27 AM
Okay, I'm sorry, but I got a little impatient of waiting for someone to guess it right, so please forgive me.

It is actually a fact.

Here's the lowdown of the whole final battle.  Sonic and Shadow (a black hedgehog that is Sonic's rival.) had transformed into their super forms to face the evil Dark Oak's ultimate form.  He had transformed into a black dwarf star.  What was different about this black dwarf star was that it was about to implode with a force so powerful, it would destroy the whole universe. :o

What was worse, he had created a forcefeild that stops all animal based life forms from attacking him. Despite this, both Sonic and Shadow tried to attack Dark Oak, but upon touching the forcefeild, they were paralyzed.

That's when Cosmo, a plant based life form that looks more human than plant on the outside, activated her ultimate power.  A power she could only use once.  With her amazing power, she cut right through the forcefield and attached herself to Dark Oak, immobilizing him and deactivating his forcefield and freeing Sonic and Shadow. :wow

Now, it would still require a very powerful attack to finish Dark Oak for good.  However, Cosmo knew that once Dark Oak was destroyed, she would be gone too.  Yet, she was willing to give her life to save everyone from the evil.

She then told the one she loved, Miles "Tails" Prower, to use the Power Cannon on Dark Oak.  Tails couldn't do it, for he knew that the blast would destroy Cosmo as well, and he loved her too much to do that to her.

Cosmo explained to him how it was the only way to defeat Dark Oak.  After that, there was a very tearful goodbye between the two lovers.  Sonic and Shadow entered the Power Cannon while still in their super forms to ensure the blast would finish Dark Oak, for it required someone who could use the Chaos Emeralds, which is what gave them their power.

Then, with one last goodbye, Tails pushed the red button that would activate the Power Cannon, launching the final attack, thus finishing both Dark Oak, and sadly, Cosmo as well. :(

Sonic searched in vain for anything left of her.  Hoping for a miracle of some sort that she was still alive.  Yet, all that remained of poor Cosmo was a small white seed, which he gave to Tails, knowing how much he loved her. :cry2

Here is a picture of the one who sacrificed herself to save the universe.

And here is the love of her life, who had to kill her to save the universe.

And yet, it still qualified for Y7. (7 and older for those who don't know.)

Also, after all this, there are those who belive Cosmo will return.  Most likely from the seed.  I do see that as a possiblity.  After all, she is a plant. ;)

-------

Well, with that explained, it is now a free for all.  The turn goes to whoever can come up with a Fact or Crap! statement first. :^.^:

Actually Wyclif was not burned at the stake while he was alife. The church would have liked to do so, but Wyclif had very important friends (from the house of Lancaster) who protected him. The very same council that convicted Hus who had been greatly inspired by Wyclif's writings (unlike Wyclif Hus was burned on the stake) did the same for Wyclif. Wyclif was dead for almost 30 years by that time! another 15 years later they actually dug up Wyclif's remains and burned him posthumously about 45 years after his dead.

Malte has it right!  It is crap!

The one that actually got a crush on a villian was Buttercup, the green eyed black-haired member of the team.

There was an episode where a gang who called themselves the Gangreene Gang, (They were basically a gang where all 5 members had green skin.) was causing havoc in Townsville. (Mainly bully related stuff, but rather harsh ways of doing it.) Buttercup had ended up getting a crush on the leader of the Gang, Ace.  Ace knew that Buttercup had gained a crush on him and used that to his advantage.  He invited Buttercup over and had some alone time with her.

Meanwhile, the other members of the Gangreene Gang make a phony phonecall that Buttercup is in danger to her sisters.  Her sisters, Blossom and Bubbles, take the bait and end up trapped under a bunch of car-related junk.  Soon, they are trapped inside the same stuff, this time compacted into a cube, and are about to be dropped into a lava pit.

At this moment, Ace and Buttercup are dancing to some rock music.  In the whole dancing thing, Buttercup punches a wall hard enough to knock it down and sees her sisters about to be dropped into a lava pit by the other members of the Gangreene Gang.

Buttercup figures out what's going on and is both heartbroken and angry at the same time.  She then saves her sisters and beats up the members of the gang that made the phony phone call.  She then beats up Ace for breaking her heart.  Poor guy ended up with a bloody nose for breaking her heart.

The episode ends with Buttercup apologizing to her sisters.

Well Malte, it's your turn. :)

Oh, and thanks for the latter info. :^.^:

You are correct that it is incorrect ;)
The legend exists however and was particularly popular among German immigrants to the United States. It is called the M¸hlenberg legend. The historical core of it is is a vote in the United States House of Representatives from 1794, where a group of German immigrants asked for the translation of some laws into German. This petition was rejected by a 42:41 vote and the German born Delegate of Pennsylvania, Frederick August Conrad M¸hlenberg decided the vote with his decision against the translation of the laws. He was later quoted as "the faster the Germans become Americans, the better it will be".
German immigrants even got their own translation of the American national anthem, but to many descendants of German immigrants these attempts to "cling to German roots" ended with the beginning of WW1, when sauerkraut was renamed into "liberty cabbage"

Indeed balloons were first used in the battle of Fleurus (1794), yet it was the French, not the Austrians, who used them.
Your turn pokeplayer.

Yes it is fact.  However, the company is rather frowned upon with such a thing.  There are many more Anime shows that the company dubs.  Ones which would give it a better reputation IMO.

Well, your turn f-22 "raptor" ace. :)

fact or crap nero fiddled while rome burned.

Popular myth has it that he played a lyre while Rome was burning. There were no fiddles in ancient Rome (I think the first instruments resembling a fiddle were brought up in the 11th century AD), so the statement is definitely crap. Historians are arguing about whether or not Nero's playing the lyre during the fire (and accusations of the fire being started on his order) is a piece of "post-Neroic" propaganda or if indeed there is some substance to it.

Sorry, I must admit I forgot about this game. Thanks to Pokeplayer for reminding me.
On the day of his assassination Abraham Lincoln predicted that something important was going to happen because he had had a dream which he had had prior to most major battles of the Civil War.

^ Good because I had no idea. :p  50/50 chance of getting it right.

Okey dokey.....

Fact or crap:  Humans, dolphins, chimpanzees, and elephants have all been reported to be able to recognize oneself in a mirror.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: Malte279 on November 20, 2006, 05:29:23 PM
Chimpanzees, definitely can. I certainly wouldn't put it beyond the intelligence of dolphins or elephants to do the same, but at least I never read about this as a fact. Combined with my doubts about the humans ability to recognize their own unfalsified self in a mirror I go for the 50:50 chance and say it is crap (having never read about elephants and dolphins being able to recognize themselves while I suppose it would not be unlikely for them to identify their reflection as such).

It was actually fact...however the elephant sample was limited to one elephant, so its plausable. ;)

You know, I've decided that I will continue the game since it's been so long since someone posted a Fact or Crap statement.

So...

Fact or Crap?

There are creautres within the animal kingdom that collect poisonous spiders.

Fact. Tarantula Hawk Wasps will attack tarantulas, paralyze them, and place them in nests to be food for the wasp's larva. There are also other species of wasps that do so. Humans also collect poisonous spiders to study and keep as pets.

Correct, Grievous55.  Though I had a feeling that the Trantcula Hawk Wasp was the one most would go after, I was kind of looking for the info on the ones that collect vast amounts of Funnel Web Spiders and Black Widows to feed their already hatched and quickly growing larvae.

But you got it right anyways, so it's your turn, Grievous55. :)

Fact or Crap: A "jiffy" is an actual unit of time. It is 1/100th of a second.
Title: Fact or Crap!
Post by: DarkHououmon on August 07, 2007, 01:06:12 AM
False. While a jiffy is indeed a unit of time, it is not limited to just 1/100th of a second. The most common is usually 1/60th of a second.

Actually it's a trick question :p

Depending on the context, you're both right.
In the electrical world, a "Jiffy" is the amount of time it takes for one cycle of AC current (1/50 or 1/60 seconds depending on your region).

In the physics world, a Jiffy is the amount of time it takes for light to travel 1 foot in a perfect vacuum.

I'd say Darkhououmon has a more accurate statement than the original question.  I'd give it to her if I wrote the question. :P:

Crap. The gecko has tiny ridges lining the bottoms of its toes. These ridges are comprised of millions of tiny hairs. The hairs are so thin that they interact with the molecular structure of the surface they are on, enabling the gecko to walk on even a smooth surface like glass, upside down.
