Hey all!
After talking to RR, who has shown me a few of his Super Smash Bros:Melee videos he has made while playing, I have decided to start a topic dedicated to posting such videos.
Here's a short Smash Bros: Melee video. I'm playing as Samus, Almost getting killed by a level 8 bowser :p No one said I was good at this game, but I somehow survived in the end. It's close, but you'll see what I mean :lol
I don't have very good technology for making videos (I just used my digital camera in Movie Mode on my TV to make this. Not very good results because the refresh rate of my TV (60 Hz) is almost double (about 30 fps) the framerate of my camera's movie mode. That's why the big black streak runs across the TV most of the time; I can't figure out a way to fix that, as I cannot change the framerate on my camera.

Hehe that would be pretty cool :P: (Though I don't have any kind of digital recording device :/) If I ever did get one though I would love to record a session of me playing it. Actually haven't played it in a while now. I don't know how good I was, but I was very addicted to it :lol:

Action9000: Dude! You had me on the edge of my seat watching you fight Bowser! PMSL! :o :lol I was routin' for ya all the way especially in the dying seconds of that match. I know Bowser can be a real pain in the backside to smash off coz he's got the heaviest frame. I loved the Charge Shot finish though in the sudden death. Priceless! :D
Is Samus your fav character? Mine has to be Link. I haven't played SSBM for yonks but it's probably my fav versus beat em up ever! Have you seen the teaser trailer for the new Smash Bros for the Wii?! Super Smash Bros BRAWL! It was demonsrated at this year's E3 which just finished a few days ago. It looks killer! Samus is my favorite character in SSB:M. :wow I've just had the most success with her. I tried playing a team battle with a few friends, 3 vs. 1 (all against me). The only character I could survive with, was Samus. I was beaten senseless with any other character I tried, but I actually managed to win using Samus (on Samus' home level, too! :lol)
Out of all of the characters, I'm the best with Samus, Pikachu, and Yoshi. Pikachu is so much fun to play as. He's so fast! :D He was better in the N64 version of SSB though. His air-based attacks did more damage in that version.
SSB: Brawl is the main reason I would Love to get the Wii system! I've always loved the Smash Bros games. Too bad we couldn't get an Gang of Five tournament or something going online. That would be fun :lol SSB would make for a wicked online game! Does anyone know whether the Wii version will have (free with an existing internet connection) online play?
Anyways, now I feel like going to play Smash Bros: Melee again :lol

It will have online play. They said it at the E3 convention. But I have MY sights set on Halo 3. Damn, I have to wait a half a year for Halo 2 to come out on the PC, and even longer for Halo 3. :mad :mad

Tim, if they don't modify the gameplay on some of the characters, my Jiggs can take down your Samus without much trouble. Heh, heh, heh. Unfortunately for both of us, I have no intentions of getting a Wii, so I doubt we'll see that challenge surface anytime soon. :cry No, no, better yet...battle of the Pikachus!! Pika is usually my main (or when I had access to a GC...don't anymore). I'll get a Pika video up in a bit...

And that means: turn off the items and try that again. :P: Actually that wasn't too bad at all, but items make the game more based on luck than actual skill with the character. I sure don't want to sound like I'm dissing your playing much, but the only time I'll go and use items is when I want to have fun...and that's largely because I'm not too good with them. So by my train of thought when playing Melee is
items=fun, party time
no items=show of skill
Best part: when that bomb started chasing you. :lol :lol

Just that it's probably easier to upload data to a computer from a digicam than from a tape cam (depending onyour camera, of course) but the real old tape cams don't have a nice way to upload to a computer without fancy video-input adaptors and whatnot.

I've spent the past 3 years at uni working on computers, cameras and editting packages! Uploading to comps are no problem! ;) Anyway, got a cam of my own with an integrated mic...might have to turn that off. I tend to get a bit verbal when playing games :P: Not abusive but just tend to have say a bit more than I should to the screen... LOL My flatmate's worse, he has full blown arguments with the characters on screen when he messes up! Quite humorous to watch really! LOL :lol

^ I'd rather hear you speak. The only reson I put song-overs on mine is because I had some really really bad synch issues, so I had to take out the original audio. >.<

I'm using a video capture program called Fraps 1.9. It doesn't capture sound at all unless you have it recorded on a voice recording program. But still, the newer version of Fraps only gives you 30 seconds of video to capture. Sorry Cyber, missed yours the last time around...wouldn't be the first time its happened and certainly won't be the last. I was actually surprised you didn't add sound to this one, but nobody seemed to be in a hurry this time. You must have had a silencer on your gun or something because it was almost like those things had no idea you were there. Interesting stuff.

Actually, the sniper Rifle isn't silenced. I don't know why Bungie made the Covenant so deaf in this one part of the level. Because in real life that gun could be heard for miles. But this was an old version of Fraps, which doesn't capture any sound at all. And I guess I forgot to ass music to it. :lol

Just checked up on my videos to see if anyone's even looking at them (I made them public on youtube so anyone can find them, not just you guys) and someone must've been on crack to rate my Jiggs video a 5 out of 5. :o :lol: :lol: It wasn't THAT impressive. :DD
I also keep the bad comments at bay; the ones about how its nothing and I should go against three computers is correct--for the pros its a cakewalk. I'm not a pro. :nyah

Hooray for youtube. Actually got into disussion with someone about Melee tonight and decided to show him some stuff I've done. I had these videos up once, but now with youtube out there, they're up as long as I want them to be.
Do remember, I only had been playing for about a month, every other day or so...not much playing time at all...and yet I was able to work with five characters decently. ^^ At least in casual combat anyway.

Okay, this is a computer game called "Stepmania (http://www.stepmania.com)". It is basically Konami's "Dance Dance Revolution" converted to an open-source, fully customizable PC game. By that, I mean users are able to add their own songs to the game by creating simple yet powerful scripts, either by hand in Notepad, or using Stepmania's built in editor (which is a Very, Very nice tool).
This video is of me playing Stepmania, using my computer keyboard as a controller. I used to have some really good Dance controllers, like the ones in the arcade versions, but ever since I moved in with my grandparents, I haven't had any room to set them up. I sold the controllers as a result. I have just one picture of me with my old controllers still around. The other pics and videos were lost to a long-dead hard drive. :(
Anyways, I created the script for this song, "Karma" by Kamelot. It's well-suited to the since due to its high speed and complex rhythms. It makes for a tricky song to those that don't know it. :lol
Anyways, onto the video! Unfotunately, I forgot to zoom in my camera, but I show my score at the end so you can get an idea of how the game went. B) I consider this game the game I'm best at, overall. I cam get a score similar to this on my feet as well, but unfortunately I have no way of making a video to prove this, so you'll have to take my word for it! LOL :P:

That is I went and did a team battle and pitted 3 lvl 9 computer players against me...and beat them...that's hard when they all go for you at once. I couldn't do the same with any other character on my list.
Also, I'm not that good....there are many that are waaay better than me. Search youtube for a video called "Taj Mewtwo" or "Ken and Isai finals". That's what you can accomplish if you play the game like 24/7..... :rolleyes:

Taj is incredible! He's able to pull off the suicide survival tatic VERY well. (A trick I have yet to master.) He made those Lvl 9 comps look like novices with his M2. :blink:
And the team of Ken and Isai are even more amazing! I can't believe how good they are. :o
However, whoever beat them... those guys were like gods. Hardly losing a life to a team of master players says alot. :unsure:
If I ever run into them, it'll be a dark day for me. -_-
But an honor to play against nonetheless. :^.^:

Anyhow, the Wii supposedly will be net compatable so there's always a possibility somewhere we could match up...provided all the movesets haven't changed in the latest game. ^^
I don't know. I took a look at the Wii remote in a magazine and didn't see the B button on it. :(
I'd say there's going to be completely different commands for moves. Who knows, we just might have to act like we're punching to make us punch our opponent. :P:

One question though: Why did you play it in the dark? If the lights were on the camera probably wouldn't have picked up the screen so badly. It just seems like more of a hassle to record it in the dark, can't see why you wanted it that way :p

Heh, I actually made one of these with a regular vhs camcorder (I was going to transfer the tape onto a dvd, and then take the video file off the dvd) and the same thing happened with the tv. You couldn't read any of the text, it was just a white blur. I never actually got it onto my computer since there were alot of problems with it, mainly the fact that the tv was overpowering my voice, so you couldn't hear anything I was sayin :lol Maybe next time I'll try putting the camcorder as close to me as possible, and turn the volume on the tv down alot :p

^ Yep, for most people that makes sense...those that want to get things such as their wedding to dvd...just use the highest settings possible to avoid compression artifacts.

That was awesome! I've never really played the first couple of Metroid games. I didn't really get into Metriod until Metroid Prime came out for GC. Then my brother got Metroid Fusion for Gameboy Advance/SP and that rocked too. I heard Metroid games have a certain status for being kinda hard. But hey, all adds to the challenge!

The only reason it can be done with 1% is because only the pickup items count towards you percent in this game (Items/suits/beams gained by downloads/ absorbing core Xs don't count). There is one missile pack however that is unavoidable, otherwise I would've been able to get 0%!

Once you beat the game, hard mode is unlocked, and if you get 100% items a secret video will be shown which ties in with the sequel.
PS: Omega Pirate is really hard on hard, by far the toughest boss!

Yes I do use cheat codes for this game (invincibility and, occasionally, extra fire power), but I've a good reason. As a human, it's very hard to recover health, as recovers are scarce, and when you are on fire because of the dragons, sometimes water is just too far away to reach on time. And it's worse as the dragon. Far as I can tell, there is no way to recover health as the dragon.

So i finally got the commitment to beat Mario Bros the Lost Levels and with this weekend, after several hours i was able to beat it without using savestates, this is including the 9th world and the harder quest (world A, B, C, and D). i guess i forgot to mention i was playing Smash bros Melee :lol . i've never played bloody roar so i couldn't really tell you. Smash Bros is a bit different then the standard fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Soul Caliber. First of all, its 4 players, second its more free roaming and open, intsead of being confined to a cricular, or square shaped arena. Thirdly, its still a 2D fightning game, a lot of the fightning games, you can move your character in 8 directions. Lastly, instead of having health, you character has a precentage, the more you dealt damage, you precentage increases and ultimatley increases how far you travel when your hit (though you can change the mode so you have hit points instead). So even though Smash Bros. does have some of simularities, overall its a really different game then other fighters out there. I hope this actually answers you question Kor.

Okay, heres a video of me playing the last level of Ikaruga. Now before you watch the video, a bit of explaining of the game will probably make the game easier to understand. First of all its a shooter game, my favortie shooter actually. The game consists of 2 polarities: black and white. This includes all enemies and bullets that are fired. Now, your ship has a shield that can be switched from black to white at will and if the bullet is the same polarity as your shield, it will be absorbed, if its not, well, you die. Also, the bullets you fire also consist of being black or white, depending on the shield's polarity (black shields, black bullets are shot, same goes for white). When it comes to shooting the enemies, your white bullets do increased damage to black enemies, and vice versa (if you've played Metroid Prime 2, its the same basic idea as that). Now the biggest mistake you can make in this game is thinking that its easier because your immune to half of the shots fired. I think it makes it harder because you have to be constantly thinking about which bullets you can absorb (it may not seem hard, but when the screen is covered in them, it can get a bit overwhelming! You will see what i mean when im fighting the last boss). Now that you've got a bit of knowledge on the game, it'll be easier to understand whats happening, if you have any question, feel free to ask.

Looks like you are a master video game player. Also likely showing my stupidity, but it looks like a y wing making the run on the death star from episode 4 of star wars(an old movie before your time) and I guess they added in those other giant ships that keep appearing, I don't recall them from episode 4, I guess Lucas added them in, like he did Greedo shooting first.

Thanks for the compliment, i try to be but, to tell you the truth, that was only on easy! :lol Hard is nearly impossible, for me at least. I need to practice waaay more to get good enough to take on hard. The good part is though, that after you play the game enough, you unlock infinite continues :DD so you can play without worries of getting any Game Overs :D .

ahhh yes, i completely fogot about this. ya, sometimes when he does his tail bounce move i get stuck in the acid (not sure if thats how it happened in the movie, since i haven't seen it in a long time). Im not sure if im gonna be getting back into that anytime soon...reminds me too much of mzm and doing the hard <=15% run (made it to those pesky black space pirates at the end and died, then my game broke :cry ). I dunno though, one of these days, if im in the mood, i might get back into it, i might even record another beating for your entertainment as well :lol .

I tried hard to push that games night but no one was interested. I'm up for doing it again but I'm gonna want a more solid commitment from people rather than hanging on 'til stupid o'clock waiting for people and they can't be bothered. If I can get people's loyalty to the cause then I'm up for trying again.
I'd love to shoot more videos of GOF members going head to head. Hopefully, we can get more Brawl vids up so watch this space.
Note to all: I appreciate the posting of videos here but it would be a little closer to the cause if posters put up videos of YOUR OWN performances rather than video game trailers. Save those for individual game discussions.

Well, the matches i usually have are not as dramatic as you might think. All the one-on-ones i have usually consist of: 3 lives, no items, and on final destination (though the stage can vary). I usually do this because there is no beneficial or harmful interference (items, stage hazards like lava etc.) so you can best determine the more skilled fighter. BUT, i do have some videos of some crazy stuff. I won't spoil it though, it will have to wait for when i upload it. I'll be gone for the weekend, so i'll probably upload them on monday, if i can remember.

well, the first one WAS a suicide, but thx. I'm quite surprised myself on how well i did, seeing as i don't play as olimar that much. I'm planning on getting good as him though, kinda difficult though when your trying to get good as 5 or 6 characters, and have to play as them all to stay good with them.

Also, i've been meaning to show my drum skills at rock band for a long time and seeing as i got rock band 2 for christmas, i guess now is a pretty good time. I finally was able to pass Panic Attack on expert today. Unfortunately though, i didn't record it (didn't think i was gonna pass in the first place). The main reason why i got into drums so much was that, as soon as i could start handling medium, i would always be the one playing drums when my friends came and played because they couldn't play it. So i slowly got better at it, and it becomes more waay more fun when you get to expert.

lol i could barely even do easy when i first started playing drums on RB1. If you just keep playing it, eventually it just starts coming natural to you. I know that i couldn't hit the bass drum on the off beats for a really long time, then all of a sudden i could just do it.

Ya, im ok at guitar as well, can't pass every song on expert (green grass and high tides (ungh), visions, to name a couple) I pretty much get murdered on the guitar solos on the harder songs and pretty much rely on overdrive/ SP to get me through.

First off, thanks. took a lot of practice, i played it a couple of times on practice mode just for fun, but then i really tried practicing on the really hard parts (like the intro). I practiced the song for about 2 hours straight before i finally attempted to pass it. I dunno if you've checked what i've said on the rock band 2 topic Tim, but i broke my foot pedal shortly after this recording, and i think this song is to blame :cry. It was worth it though.

I actually found it by accident myself. And ya, thats her down B that im using for her meteor smash, its by far the easiest meteor smash to get off, and it can also be used as another jump for recovering.

Wow...um...thanks! :DD I have know idea why i did so good, usually i have to use 1 or 2 subtanks when fighting the 2nd form. Also the gamecube controllers are horrible for playing megaman x games, as you have to use 2 fingers to be able to charge, jump, and dash at the same time. To show you how hard it is, Heres the button layout of the controller (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa86/mrmeat770/blah.jpg) and Heres how im able to press down the 3 buttons at once. (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa86/mrmeat770/bblah.jpg). I got really good at playing this way, despite being very uncomfortable. This is also the method that i was using during the video.
Also, i would prefer paypal, as its the safest way to send very large amounts of money :lol. But seriously, i don't need any money for this, it was my pleasure. I just hope that you might be able to get some tips from this video and be able to beat him.
On a side note, i will upload that last Smash Bros video of Falco vs. Fox vs. Wolf, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

well i guess another Rock Band 2 video because i was bored one day. I've gotten like 5 times better since the last video i posted. Panic Attack is a piece of cake now, so i thought i would do a song a little bit harder, one that gives every RB drummer nightmares. What song you ask? I'm not going to say, but anyone who's played quite a bit of rock band will probably know what song i'm talking about.
*Note* Since i've gotten my new foot pedal, the floor shakes a bit when i stomp down on it, so the camera shakes every time theres a foot pedal note. I'll hopefully have found a better method of filming if i ever make more drums videos. Just be glad i'm not doing Battery...

Lucky, I always do bad as soon as there is a camera by my TV lol. Anyways, that was pretty Impressive. I can't keep my timing when those fast notes come and i'll always be losing my multiplier during those parts when I play guitar.
I actually have a video of me playing a song on guitar but it will probably be awhile before i upload it.

You can hear the timing pretty clearly in my video, if that will help you at all. It's simply just triplets at a high speed. As long as you can keep it steady and you know that about that notes, I find that part really quite easy. Easier than those bloody 8th note runs that have your fingers jumping all over the bloody place and just taunting you to miss a note! :p
Then again, I know many people have difficulty with that technique. Songs like Creep from RB 1 have very few high scores on them and somehow I managed 7th place on the PSN on Creep. Guess I kinda have a knack for those runs or something. :lol

yea, i don't really play the guitar much though. In fact, the only reason why i'm even as good as i am is because i had to wait 2-3 months until i could play my drums due to my broken foot pedal.

Yay, i managed to find my scores on that site. I've been checking the site every so often in hopes my name would randomly pop up and then i had an idea. By checking the Wii leaderboards on a song i new i placed very high on, i would be able to find my username. Turns out, my username on the site is "MR MEA" instead of "MR MEAT". I have no idea why, but whatever.

This site is actually very useful, as i never new i was so close to gold starring so many songs. I also never realized how low my score was on Cool for Cats :lol. Most of the scores should be up to date, but theres a couple there that ive gotten better scores on. Ive gotten 4 more gold stars then it says on there as well (Afterlife, All The Small Things, Cool for Cats, and DOA).
[EDIT] Also, i just 5 starred a bunch of songs that i only had 4 stars on, including Painkiller, with 296K as my score (i nearly got 100% on the opening drum solo as well :DD ). There should be only 8 songs now that have 4 stars on, which are:

Ripped the note chart from World Tour and exported it into GH3 (PC version). I find it more comfortable to play the game with my keyboard held upside down (basically you're treating the keyboard as if it's the guitar controller). :p

Nice vid there Littlefoot Fan! I think that vent start is probably one of the greatest level starts in gaming history. First kill is some poor guard doing his business on the bog and you just brain him from out of nowhere! At least in the movie, James Bond converses with the guy first before knocking him out! Nicely played sir! ;)

Yea I always thought the Facility was one of the funnest levels in that game. As you can see, I was just messing around in that level, as you're not supposed to be killing the civilians :lol:

Nicely done excalibur! I've never seen LBT Great Valley Racing Adventure in action. Even though I knew it would be a crappy effort in comparison to the big hitters, still nice to see it running (excuse the pun :p ). I'm assuming those perfect runs took some practice.

Not "some", but A LOT. :lol It actually took me about 20-30 minutes to finally get a perfect run on a course. It's really hard NOT to mess up without memorizing every section of the courses first. :p

Testing the BLOOM mod in halo, which makes light appear much more vivid and bright. Also forced a lot of anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering through Catalyst Control Center. Tried to get the quality as best I could, but youtube kills a lot of it through its encoding process.

My first VG video. CoD Black Ops. Playing capture the flag. Took on a few guys with a pretty heated firefight with one of them. Managed to dodge a crossbow bolt and a full SMG clip, emptied my backup pistol and got up close and personal rather than reloading! Title's a running gag me and my friend have.

I don't personally. Best thing to do it just whack it into Youtube and see what comes up. Plenty of crazy knife throw kills there. The beauty of Black Ops is that any made clips that are under 30s automatically get uploaded to Youtube.
