Title: The Official Website of the RPG
Post by: Mumbling on August 11, 2009, 10:38:32 AM
Hey everyone!

Action and I have been working on a site to keep track of the game! Mainly to do some advertising next to my Youtube videos and answer general questions.

Please pay a visit and join the email list! I'd love to see some activity on that site.

http://lbtrpg.webs.com/ (http://lbtrpg.webs.com/)

I know it's a cheap site so far, but I guess it works :)

If you have any suggestions or notice any errors.. Please tell me. If you feel like commenting, use the guestbook! :D

I'd definitely choose another theme.  I've always disliked that theme no matter what I do with it.  The problem is most of Freewebs' themes aren't very good.  I'd recommend making a custom website using a pre-made template.  So long as you can code in HTML and CSS (I believe Action is capable of this) you can make just about anything.

Choosing a .co.cc domain name might help too.  Oh, and doesn't Freewebs allow you to add custom CSS to your template?  If so you might be able to make a better design without having to switch hosts.

You might be able to make this website work.  What you need is a unifying theme.  You've got blue, white, green, and brown.  Choose one and work with it.  They don't mix together very well.  Customize the CSS and change the background to something that fits better and you'll have a website that flows together.

I can do some HTML but I've never tried or seen CSS.

The only difference between them is everything is more organized and applies to everything on the page.  For example, if you say .h1{font-size:14px; color:blue;}, all Heading 1 tags will have a font size of 14 pixels and will be blue in color.  It's pretty easy to read and edit CSS.  The only thing you have to get used to is it's in a different file from the .html document and is linked to in the .html web page.  You'll figure it out really quick.  It's not hard to learn like HTML was.

I would love to make my own template lbtl but I never tried or know anything from CSS at all.. Webs does support it however. Maybe you could help us out ;)

It's really just trial and error if you don't know CSS.  Just go and change each element that has the color:###### attribute to say red and save it.  Then see what element it affected.  If it affected the element you wanted it to (say the side links) then just go back and change it to a color you'd actually like.  It's not like you're gonna have to move things around or anything.  Just simple color adjustments.  I'm sure you can handle it.

I fear that just changing the colours wont make the template any prettier... It's kind of limited. The only thing I can change is the colour of the background(where the grass image is now). I'd need more of a CSS code to actually change the menu and stuff like that...

Edit the CSS style sheet.  I think you do it by saying to "add" a custom style sheet.  I'm not sure.  It's been awhile.

Tried, failed. The only thing I was able to change was the colour of the font in the navbar.

Yay! I'm also on the list. I might come up with something for the "about me", but it will have to wait, cause its late and i'll be going to bed. Anyways, loving the site so far! Hopefully with this site and the youtube videos, we will get a strong support base going for the game.

On a side note, i love the FAQ "Can you help us with... fill in randomness about other games here. (E.g. 'Can you help us to make Spore Multiplayer')"  :lol

Oh.. How convenient. *cough*

Sorry, it's a problem with Webs. I just checked the forums there and apparently more people have seen this occurring since yesterday! I guess it will be something that's fixed soon. They'll update me once they know the problem.

Then I guess you can sign up. Sorry for the trouble!

Wow.  It seems that Freewebs has become even worse since I left.  They've totally mutilated your website with ads. :p I can't tell what's the real content and what's the garbage I shouldn't click on.  I would seriously consider a different host.  I remember bravenet being pretty good except for it's lack of decent templates.....but that template isn't exactly great it itself as it is and they might have more templates now.

EDIT:
Holy crap.  Yeah.  Take a look at what I made in like 2 minutes:

http://sapphirescales.viviti.com (http://sapphirescales.viviti.com)

I'd recommend setting up a site with viviti.com (http://viviti.com)

Post by: Mumbling on August 18, 2009, 03:53:52 PM
It's not webs who did the ads, that's tim. I don't see them anyway. I honestly agree with you on needing a better template though.

I'm not very good with changes once I'm used to one certain kind of thing. (Example: I can edit with webs in the old style, not so well in the newer one). Will check it out though.

Well I'll agree with you there.  The new style is much tougher to work with than the old one, but I've gotten used to it over a long period of time.  But this viviti.com seems pretty simple.  I don't know if you can change the style sheet, but it doesn't really matter seeing as they have decent templates and don't display hideous ads all over the place.

I tried uploading an image as it went as easy with webs to change the header. The only way to do that is by using html... I don't mind html next to the fact that I only know the basic basics! Too bad... I'm not much of a website person, more a contents person.

Cool, I made special thanks  :D

Anyway, I like the site.  Its a much easier way to display information and provide the downloads then having it all scattered around different threads.

That's the main idea I had.

I wonder if you should be somewhere else next to special thanks. did you do a lot of playing or anything else for the game? We kept track of it in the beginning but kind of stopped with that later :p

is there any way you can get a link for paypal that will be in english? Cause i went to it and in was in another language. I'm planning on donating  around $5-$10 (CAD) and even though i could probably figure it out, i don't want to do any guessing when trying to send money.

Err how odd! For me it links to a dutch site but... It should just link to your own language.

Edit: Okay it links to a dutch site automatically.. ehh I'll see if I can fix that. Thanks.

Edit: nevermind... Still dutch. I've contacted people about this issue.

The only thing you can fill in is the amount of USD you want to donate, then you'll have to log in.
Once you're logged it in it will go back to your prefered language. I'm not sure why paypal always leads to the dutch one... grrr

We just received a generous $25 donation from another GoF member who I'll keep anonymous unless they want to come out and say, but I did purchase
Tree Party (http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?f=tree_party) today, thanks to both donors and I'll work on getting it into the game once we have our game map geography finalized a bit more!

Thanks again, everyone, this is getting awesome!

Just to let everyone know though, this donation system was intended to be a little more long-term.  I didn't figure on two people giving me $35 in one day's time.  It's very much appreciated but just letting everyone know they can relax, there's always lots of stuff to do and to work on. :)

Seeing as I'm unable to devote any help with this project I would donate.....but I have no way of donating online.  The only thing I could do is go buy a prepaid credit card, but I'd have to pay $15 just to get it activated and $5 a month after that.  $15 is just stolen from you and they charge you $1 every time you use it.  I'd have to pay $16 just to make a donation.

Haha, well, domain names don't have anything to do with a bank, lol.

I meant, I couldn't deposit cash into my account. I tried today after school in three different ATMs, aaaand no dice. I truly am disatisfied with my bank, now. And the new business teacher at my school is going to bring a rep. from the same bank into class. I can't wait.

And, no, I don't want the domain name 'Alex', I'm sure it's been tooken since the mid 90's.

Back on topic, I will donate! Eventually!
