Is there a potential for a reboot?

It's something that's occasionally on my mind when I consider this franchise. Considering these days there's a lot more expected from children's TV, a reboot touching on the right points about what makes this franchise in general enjoyable and appealing to even people in their adult years, does, at least theoretically, have the potential to be a great success.

As it happens, I'm looking to be a professional writer and am studying screenwriting at university, and so if I make it big in the world of film and television (reasonably big anyway...) it would be of a personal delight to me to launch a new LBT TV series that's still kid-friendly but doesn't shy away from more complex storylines and darker themes which are healthy for children to get exposed to.

So - let's here your thoughts. What were the good things about the LBT sequels and TV series that were worth expanding upon that were unfortunately neglected.

Here are my 3 main factors:

1. Chomper. By far the most popular character outside of the original movie, he is also my favourite, and there is so much potential for a character study involving an existential crisis and struggling to put his personal commitments above his instincts. I'm not saying his isolation hasn't been covered, there's just much more to go on.

2. The arc with Red Claw. Both the TV series and fourteenth movie seriously neglected an interesting, engaging story arc concerning two young dinosaurs appealing to the Great Valley to help with essentially a dictator beyond the mountain walls. With the right tools, there's no reason this shouldn't be a story worth considering.

3. Cera's family life. The real redeeming factors for me in the movies beyond number 10 were the subplots concerning Cera dealing with new additions to her family. It's an issue that may be close to home for many children and I think it needs serious looking at. Cera being a character of emotional vulnerability and possibly abandonment issues isn't entirely unique, but definitely a healthily developed character to introduce children to - as it happens, she is my favourite of Don Bluth's original five.

What do you guys think?

If it's done right I think yes there is hope for a remake of the franchise. But it needs to be directed by the right person And now dumb it down where it's insulting to the kids intelligence level. I'm afraid they will hire someone that will take this only as a job and not put effort into all of those things you mentioned.

Honestly, I doubt it. I think the channel higher-ups would actually approve an original dinosaur series over a reboot/second season of this series, given how low-key it seems to be.

Except it's not. Tons of people grew up with Land Before Time, while dinosaurs as a theme for movies, TV series or other forms of entertainment to this date never got as popular as they did during the 90s. So it might be safer to go with a franchise that instantly has some recognition. Problem is - it's also becoming kind of a joke for those people who mostly see the Land Before Time as "that awesome movie that was milked for all its worth already". And that outlook stems from that the makers of LBT sequels always went the easy, extremely kids-friendly route and didn't do enough to freshen up the series... But it's never to late for them to learn.

Where I live sprout a kids channel does show the not so good Land Before Time tv series. Witch is good enough in my opinion.

Yeah the TV series was awful and very poorly made but if people liked it that's fine.

Ah, alright, I gotcha. Yeah, I know some people who watched some LBT movies, but never even heard about the TV series. Can't say I blame them... While there definitely were some good things about it, the TV series wasn't perfect for sure.

Exactly the series was far from perfect and not that good either. But I can say this they tried to a series and they did. Did it pan out no but I'll give them effort for trying tho.

I think a reboot could happen, it depends upon a Dinosaur Renaissance. Jurassic Park and The Land Before Time started a renaissance and return to interest in Dinosaurs. From what I have been seeing a department stores, there are dinosaurs everywhere, from birthday bags to paintings, and even a whole line of dinosaurs in the toy section. If a resurgence of dino mania happens, then it would be possible to reboot LBT. The timing has to be perfect.

True only if they do it in traditional animation not the cgi garbage they use now. I don't mind the cgi but only if it's done right. And yeah I guess Dinosaurs are getting popular again so only if it's done with care but I doubt that's gonna happen

It is a miracle that the last Land Before Time XIV: Journey of Brave even was made. I thought it was over with "The Wisdom of Friends." But I was proved wrong.

I didn't hate it fully I did like the diggers that's about it the rest went downhill after that

I didn't particularly like personalities of the diggers, but I enjoyed Petrie become Cesar for a day (well half a day). The diggers were instrumental in that.
