For administrators, there should be two pictures. One of Grandpa Longneck, to symbolize their administrator authority, and a member level picture, to symbolize the amount of posts they have.

I think it's better I think to leave it at one.  You can look at their post count if it's important and see what their picture could be if they were non admin.  Though I never do that myself.

I think 10,000 posts is a more realistic final stage than 5,000 posts. At my current rate, I would have reached 5,000 posts in less than a year after registering here, which is almost ridiculous. 10,000 will require for me, more or less, a two-year membership here, which is more realistic, and it also matches, by aspect ratio, the post count required to reach the final stages of other boards I'm on compared to how many posts I have there. I don't have time for complicated math right now, but I'll entertain y'all if you wish. :DD

I like the 10,000 rather then 5,000. Also saves the admin from coming up with a name and icon for 2 levels rather then just 1.    Can you entertain us all with your math tricks? Sounds like a good idea for a thread.  Some title like math tricks, or some such other title.

I think that LBTAholic should be considered 5000-9999 posts, and Ultimate LBT Fan should be considered 10000+. Also, the group hug should be highest rank, not Mo.

You asked for it. :P:

Here's some information about my life on The Gang of Five.

Registration date: July 16, 2007
Days joined: 140
Total posts: 2,800 (this is of current, but posting this will naturally make it 2,801, but for the ease of this, I'm going to use the "current" figure)
Posts per day average: 20

2,800 posts/140 days=20 posts/days

Let's try to figure out when I'm projected to reach the old top level of 5,000 posts.

5,000 posts/'X' days=20 posts/days

Let's modify the formula.

'X' days=5,000 posts/20 posts/days

'X' days=250 days

I would have reached the top level in 250 days after registering here. Let's change the formula again to see how long it will take to reach 10,000 posts (the results are predictable, but I'll do this just to make it 'official' :p )

'X' days=10,000 posts/20 posts/days

'X' days=500 days

A more reasonable goal. Let's compare real information from another board I'm on.

Registration date: May 11, 2007
Days joined: 206
Total posts: 1,804 (this is of current, but posting this will naturally make it 2,801, but for the ease of this, I'm going to use the "current" figure)
Posts per day average: 8.76 (this is because they have stricter "post restrictions," as I am as active there as I am here)

1,804 posts/206 days=8.76 posts/days

Let's figure out when I'll reach the top level of 6,000 posts at this other board.

6,000 posts/'X' days=8.76 posts/days

'X' days=6,000 posts/8.76 posts/days

'X' days=685 days

500 is much closer to 685 than 250 is. It's a more realistic goal and achievement. :p

when I do reach 5,000 posts (and I will I can assure you), I'll be even more motivated to get to 10,000 mostly because I don't much like the 5,000 post level image.  It'll be hard to find an avatar to match it.  I was seriously considering asking Action or another admin to reset my post count so I could have Cera back.  It was just so easy to match an avatar to her picture, but I eventually got used to the Littlefoot image.

Well, you're the first to actually get the Mo picture, which means that there is no one who currently holds the group hug picture. And I actually like the idea of swapping the group hug picture and title for the Mo ones, making LBTaholic the 5,000-9,000 range as lbt/cty_lover suggested. On the other hand, though, it's simpler to just keep adding groups rather than substituting them like that.

I think its fine...I never expected anyone to get to 10,000 anytime soon so I had expected the group to be the last picture.  We'll just keep adding on if necessary.

The role plays are only one section (or one piece of the forum, hence a forum mod).  He will not have the picture of Mr. Threehorn because he doesn't have mod powers on the entire board.

Not yet.  None are over 5,000 and not admin.  Some admin are at that level but being admin that icon shows instead.  Just like Nick22 is also over 10,000, but only his admin icon is shown.

As for moderators I guess there is 1 moderator, but no global across all sections moderator.

Next stop Ultimate LBT Fan!

It's only a bit harder to get that level.  Posts really go by fast.  Now the LBT aholic level takes a lot longer....at least it will for me.  By the time they get to the "Ultimate LBT Fan" level, most members realize what topics would benefit from their input and which would not.  Of course not responding needlessly makes your post count per day go waaaaaaay down.  At my rate I'm expecting to get to LBT aholic by the time I'm 20 or so. :p

Also the quality of your posts and where you post is a large factor.  If you spend most of your time in the party room, those posts can go by like lightning.  Also, if you're making entire responses saying things like "Well that would be nice" your posts will reach high levels quickly as well.  I imagine it took Malte a long time to get where he is because he doesn't make really short responses (at least not since I've been here).  I'm in no way comparing myself to Malte or any other member, but I tend to make longer posts as well most of the time.

I reached my level because I used to be a little obsessed with the forums.  I'd post all the time.  I'd spend at least an hour a day on here.  Nowadays I don't have so much time on my hands.  In addition, I've made it a point only to post when I think I have something useful I can contribute or someone I can help.  I might also make a thread to show something to the community such as something shocking or outraging...and I might also post a warning of a new virus or a tutorial for something that I think a large portion of the community can benefit from.  In addition, I might post some form of project (LBT or otherwise) that I think might be entertaining or beneficial to the community.

Why am I on GOF?  I've asked myself this question many times.  I mean, you don't really need a forum to watch LBT.  But it's not just about LBT anymore.  LBT is why I joined initially, but I've found that I enjoy being a part of something.  I like being part of the greater whole.  I enjoy helping people and discussing different things that happen in the world (and LBT of course).  That's why I'm here.  So long as I have a solid purpose...one that isn't temporary or frail, I know I'll be able to commit myself to it and stick around.  GOF is a great place and as long as I have a computer and interenet, I plan to be a part of this community forever. :)

Yeah when we find things to do it does cut our time short.  I know when I really move out my home and making a living on my own that's when I won't be showing my face to often.  Trust me I love LBT; its apart of me that's one of the reason why I joined and I was interested in meeting others who also knew about the LBT Universe.  The only reason i posted alot lately because I missed out on plenty things so I want to make up for it.  I mean whats the sense joining something and you can't even express yourself?
So that's what I did, I express myself to the best of my ability.

But please, don't get the wrong idea.

I can answer that (consider I've created 2 invision hosted forums) other administrators can go to a section called 'Find/Edit/Suspend User' in the Admin CP (control panel) and change your user group. But from what I know, this is normally done for the most trust worthy users.

If you want to be a forum mod; admins go to 'moderators' in the admin CP and they add members by click 'Add Mod' to a certain forum; whole user groups or single members can be added as moderators.

It shows up was:

Quote
Forum Led by: Petrie, Malte279, Action9000, Littlefoot1616

Hope that answers your question. :)

EDIT:
You can't become an mod/admin by reaching a certain number of posts.

Only time your user group changes is when you reach 25+ posts, you go from 'Members' to 'Members +' which allows you to view the After Midnight forum.

EDIT 2:
Oops...Nick already answered, oh well. :smile

Thanks for all the help guys! Again I really appreiciate it. :D Being a new member here on GOF I'm curious about what goes on, rules and such so I know how to stick to the rules and be able to enjoy myself doing it. I'm not looking to become a mod or an admin, I'm just curious and asking questions sharpens the mind. (recognize that reference anywhere?) Yay! I'm up to 100 posts! Again, thanks for the help!

Since this topic has been bumped, I wanted to bring up a suggestion here.  I just noticed that there are 7 member levels and technically there are 7 members of the gang in the TV series.  Should we change the Ultimate LBT Fan and LBt-aholic images to Ruby and Chomper?  I should mention that I don't have the fonts originally used in the member level images so I'd have to remake all of them, but I can do it.  I'd like to choose some better images for the characters anyway.  I just took them from my private image collection and didn't put too much thought into them.  Now the Ultimate LBT Fan would have to be Ruby because her skinny neck will make room for the long title.  Or I suppose it could be Littlefoot.  But I chose the member level characters based on the order in the second movie (Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike) in reverse order.

EDIT:  Oh, and I have a really good font I could use on the new images.  It's a lot more readable when small than the current font.

:lol Absolutely! :yes
In fact it is a funny coincidence that you mention it for just a few minutes ago I told Iris (Mumbling) that I consider curiosity one of the greatest virtues of mankind (clarifying on second thought that I was not referring to that kind of curiosity that makes some people "spy" after their neighbors, but the general curiosity for what we don't know). If I abandoned all curiosity it probably meant that I had abandoned living ;)

Absolutely (second time in this post) ;)
I really think that it is a very good suggestion to use Ruby and Chomper instead of the Mo and assembly of characters which we have so far (which look good, but may be less in place since the gang happened to be increased to seven) :yes
We may have to determine the the order of the characters / levels though since I am not sure most people would agree for Chomper and Ruby to be the images for the Ultimate LBT Fan and the LBT-Aholic (same as Mo seems to be a somewhat odd choice). Then again people might not be too fond having to wait so long to reach Littlefoot for example (whom many might perceive as the central land before time character) as the LBT-Aholic. So this question is to everyone (and unless enough people respond we might have to check out the recent order of the characters thread for reference though that one was of course not with any reference to the characters):

Which order of the seven characters would you want to see for the seven member levels?

Also I wonder if perhaps we should change the image for the Mods (Topsy) since he is so unpopular (according to the ten character you hate thread)?

Personally I don't have a problem with the member levels as they are, but if we were to change them, these are my opinions:

ï The first five levels should be kept the same, as should the Admin and Mod iconsóI think the images of Grandpa Longneck and Mr. Threehorn are very appropriate for those levels.

ï The “Ultimate LBT Fan” level should have an icon of both Ruby and Chomper. I think a good option for the image would be from the opening sequence of the TV series, towards the end where the two of them are running together, just before Chomper kicks a rock.

ï The “LBT-aholic” icon should show the whole gang, much as “Ultimate LBT Fan” does now. Perhaps a different image should be used, however, so that Petrie can be included. (He's not in the current “Ultimate LBT Fan” icon.)

I've been wondering, considering Littlefoot is the king rank, maybe Bron could be the admin rank and the global mods could have a different icon than the forum mods? Like Shorty or Ali? Then for the forum mods, a picture of Littlefoot's mother?

Newbie: Spike (can stay the same)
Junior: Petrie (can stay the same)
Senior: Ducky (can stay the same)
Queen: Cera (can stay the same)
King: Littlefoot (can stay the same)
Ultimate LBT Fan: All 7 main characters (Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, Spike, Ruby and Chomper)
LBT-aholic: Ruby or Chomper
Moderators: Littlefoot's mother
Global Moderators: Shorty or Ali
Administrators: Bron

I'm trying to keep things matching and simple here.  The Ultimate LBT Fan image doesn't go very well with the rest of them because it has multiple characters.  And since there are 7 members of the gang and 7 levels, I think it makes more sense to make Ruby and Chomper a part of the level system.  Notice how I made all the shots full body shots?  I did this to give the images a sense of conformity.  But the Ultimate LBT Fan image just doesn't match.  Personally I'm really not fond of Ruby for my level image, but that will make me reach LBT-aholic even quicker! :lol

One could make it:

Newbie: Ruby (she IS the newbie of the gang).
Junior: Chomper (also not part of the original Gang of Five but has been around before)
Senior: Spike
Queen: Petrie
King: Ducky
Ultimate LBT Fan: Cera
LBT-aholic: Littlefoot

In case of the Mods and Admins I think the change I suggested could be done but is not a necessity unless a majority of the mods and admins is in favor of it. I'm not voting on this one because I'm happy either way, but what does every other mod or admin think, would you like your images to be changed and if so which character (or item (after all there are some of significance in LBT)) would you like to have?

You'd need to switch Ducky and Petrie for obvious reasons.    :exactly  But I think I like that list.

Admin/Mod change - to what?  :neutral  I think it needs to stay Grandpa Longneck and Mr. Threehorn (if and when we ever add mods).

You cannot set separate images for forum moderators.  The Bron character is a one-shot character and would not make a good avatar for an admin here.

I just came up with an idea that could be an improvement on your idea. If I remember correctly, the junior and senior titles were inspired by the rankings of high school or college students. But there's two more titles that can be taken from that inspiration, so here's my suggestion for the rankings from lowest to highest:

Freshman
Sophomore
Junior
Senior
Queen
King
Ultimate LBT Fan

I'll let everyone decided how the gang of seven can fit onto this set of rankings, but here's what I think would work:

Freshman: Spike
Sophomore: Petrie
Junior: Ducky
Senior: Ruby
Queen: Cera
King: Chomper
Ultimate LBT Fan: Littlefoot

Junior and Senior can mean more than high school, though that was definitely an inspiration for the titles.  I think if we focus on Malte's list with my small change, that would update the list to include Ruby and Chomper and keep just about everyone happy. :)

Bron is certainly not a character I would want to be represented by. Only if any mods or admins feel in a similar way about Topsy respectively Littlefoot's grandpa there would be any reason for change there at all.

One question.  Can we increase the size of the member title images a bit?  Fitting "Ultimate LBT Fan" on such a small image is difficult and if it's going to be Cera then she'll likely have to be smaller than the other characters due to the fact that the title will have to be above her (or below I suppose).  Of course I could just put the title above all the characters, but I think I tried that last time and it didn't look very good.

The icons are allowed to be any size up to at least 200x200 pixels, on my Tremors forum, these are the size I use for mine:

103x64 pixels. The images are allowed to uploaded with no trouble, but if you exceed 200x200, it won't upload, at least not on my forum.

I like the image you chose for Ruby (although her wrists and ankles look really thin), and Spike looks pretty nice. (I prefer the Spike icon we already have, but then I always have a hard time getting used to changes.) For some reason, though, I don't like the Chomper one so much. Maybe it's just that I prefer his LBT II and V designs to his TV series design? Also, maybe it's just me, but the shadows and outlines on Ruby and Chomper look pretty dark, which personally I don't think looks as good against the dark GOF wallpaper.

By the way, maybe this has been brought up before, but we currently have only three members with the “LBT-aholic” icon, and seven with the “Ultimate LBT Fan” icon. Although this number will inevitably increase, there will probably always be a vast discrepancy between the number of members with those icons and the ones with King, Queen, Senior, Junior, and Newbie icons. If we do go with this new system, does anyone have a problem with the Littlefoot icon being essentially the rarest icon on the forum? (I don't think that came out quite right, but you know what I mean.)

My apologies in advance if I'm being annoying here. :oops

What do you guys think of something like this?  I've always been a fan of the web 2.0 fade reflection effect.  I use it a lot when making websites.

The image is technically larger in size, but the character still appears relatively small.  There's plenty of room to continue the long text next to each character if we choose this.

Unfortunately that's just because they were taken from the TV series.  The Spike image was taken from LBT 8.  It's unavoidable.  I'll try to take the rest of the character images from the later movies if possible.  Though I may have a hard time with Petrie, Mr. Threehorn, and Grandpa Longneck.  Since I'm going with full body shots of them standing on the ground, they're difficult to find.  And I'm not going to take any characters with cut off tails or anything and just fade them out like I did with the previous images I made.  These are going to be really high quality web 2.0 icons.

I like the new avatars LBTLover and the reflection effect looks cool too.  ;) Also liking the ranking order suggested by Malte (with Petrie's two pence worth in there too). I agree that the mod and admin avatars should remain as Mr Threehorn and Grandpa Longneck respectfully but don't suppose there would be any harm in updating those as well would it? Unless that was the initial intention (in which case I'll shut up now!  :p  :lol) Still, all looks good! Nice job! ;)

By the way, has it been definitively decided that the member levels will be changing (and that this will be the order used), or has it yet to be voted on in the Rock Circle? I would be one of those silent Admins, Pangaea. I think it would not be a wrong decision to change the member icons simply because ruby and chomper should be part of it. However I've just been silently reading and agreeing rather than giving my own input :) I also see Malte, Petrie and LF1616 agreeing with the new titles (and nick seems to have agreed on making them too). I'd say that 5 admins would be enough voices ^^

Actually, what I'm concerned about is the amount of input from the members; the ones who will have the new level icons displayed below their screen names. Do any of them have issues with the appearance of the character images chosen, the effects on the images, and the most prominent characters being the hardest levels to attain?

I'm also feeling awkwardóeven guiltyóthat I seem to be the only one who's less than thrilled with the changes being proposed. It would be nice to have some indication of whether or not this is the case. If the majority of other members were to give their opinion before the changes were implemented, it would not only help the GOF staff to design a new level icon system that satisfies everyone, but it would probably make me feel more at ease with the changes (especially if I am indeed alone in my opinions).

You have a very good point Pangea and it is about time that the Rock Circle is put in use again. Participation in administrative questions of the GOF tends to be relatively limited. Since the drafts are ready and the suggestions is made I will put up a simple choice poll in the rock circle on whether members are okay with the new member level system or would prefer to stick with the old one. Casting no vote though will be counted as the kind of "I don't care" which will leave the decision to those who did cast their votes since I'm afraid it is nearly impossible to get an input from a majority of all active GOF members on any matter.

Well, from our discussion [so far] in the Rock Circle topic about the subject, Nick and I have come up with these for the title ranks, and I've provided images for Ali and Grandma Longneck.

Quote
Members:
Newbie Ruby: 0-99
Junior Chomper: 100-499
Senior Spike: 500-999
Lady Ducky: 1,000-2,999
Lord Petrie: 3,000-6,999
Princess(?) Ali: 7,500-14,999
Queen Cera: 15,000-29,999
King Littlefoot: 30,000-49,999
Dowager Grandma Longneck- 50000+

STAFF:
Mod Mr. Threehorn
Global Mod Mr. Threehorn
Admin Grandpa Longneck

my proposal is thus. we add Ali as a Midlevel rank (say 7500 posts to reach her) and Grandma Longneck (50000 posts to reach her) so that would with the addittion as well of Ruby and Chomper, give us a total of 9 levels.
Grandma longneck would be the highest anon-mod.admin could reach.

I'm not really in favor of this. Since one of the ideas for the new level designs was to replace the one / two time appearance (Mo) to begin with I don't really think it makes too much sense to interrupt the continuous line of main characters with Ali.
Perhaps it would be an idea to raise some of the lower posting ranks (e.g. giving no visible rank to those with 0 posts and making the Ruby rank begin at 1 post instead). However, since achieving a new rank might be an inspiration for new members I think that achieving the next one ought not to require 100 posts but no more than 50 (the current level is 40).

Oh.  I guess I'd better remake the rest of the images then now that a decision has been reached.  I'll get on that as soon as I can, but it might be a while before I can get around to it.  And I think text is important in the rank images so newbies know what they are (especially in the Admin and Mod images).  So what have we decided the text should be?  Just something like "Rank: Ducky" or are we sticking with newbie, king, etc. (I should mention that I never really liked those titles)?

Right now there's nothing, except for admins/mods.. I think it's fine that way personally :)

I guess it is not really necessary to add any further title beyond the character name. In the discussion in the rock circle there had been suggestions for titles, but actually we are probably better of without titles. Not only do they become kind of forced from a certain level on (until the recent change we had the ranks "Ultimate LBT Fan" and "LBTholic". Who can tell which is more extreme?) but also titles like king and queen sound kind of odd in a board that does not strive to imitate a monarchy or any other kind of autocratic rule (plus the risk of a slightly sexist overtone if either king or queen is ranked higher than the other).
The levels are not meant to be too much of a hierarchy among the members which might be enhanced by the titles only. As for the levels, their order can not only be looked up here, but the  frequency of the different images too gives an idea about the significance. The images for the Mods and Admins still carry the inscription.

Nuts. I was *this* close to becoming an Ultimate LBT fan. Oh well, gives me something to strive for :p (plus I was the one of the motion's strongest supporters since 2009)

In all seriousness, this is a good update. Now desirable characters like Littlefoot are actually difficult to reach while Moe can rock the >50 level base.

Personally I don't feel there's any need to remake the Spike – Ultimate LBT Fan images; they look fine as is. I've always liked them, and I don't recall hearing of anyone else ever having a problem with them either.

I think the only member level images that would benefit from being changed at this point are the Ruby and Chomper ones. Their color tone at the moment is much darker than the other member images and doesn't match up with them very well. My personal opinion is that they would look better if the icons were based on higher-quality (http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss2/Pangaean/LBT%20Screenshots/Ruby%20and%20Chomper%20Screenshots/Ruby.png) screenshots (http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss2/Pangaean/LBT%20Screenshots/Ruby%20and%20Chomper%20Screenshots/Chomper.png), but if no one else agrees, then we can just leave the images as is.

As for the titles, I'm with Malte on this one. The best rank indicator I think anyone came up with was your "row of tree stars" idea, LBTLover. If we use any method I think it should be that one.

Are there any posts showing all the ranks' images next to each other? I kinda want to see all the images in one place.

Thank you, but, why are there so many founders?

^ Petrie was the original founder of the Gang of Five, but he stepped down as head admin since he was too busy. Ever since, Malte has been founder (as in, head admin) of the GoF.

Ok, but why are there so many founders?  and why does it appear that the founder has multiple accounts?  Also, are Petrie and Petrie85 the same person?

As Mumbling said, Petrie (the actual founder) stepped down as the head admin when he became too busy, so Malte was then designated "founder" giving him the duties as head admin of the forum.

I don't actually know the answer to that one.  Perhaps one of the admins could explain why that is the case?

Nope.  Petrie is the founder of the forum, whereas Petrie85 is a former member who was banned a few months ago.

I remember when I was Littlefoot before the change, I had maybe 30 posts to go before "Ultimate LBT Fan" at 5,000.

Then the new updates pushed me back to Cera. I feel like I'm never gonna even reach Littlefoot again :/

littlefoot starts at 6000 LBT so you need about 500 more to get there.

God, I hope I'm not the same person as Petrie85. :rolleyes

Anyway, yes I have two accounts created within two months of each other.  Did it for security reasons long ago which really don't matter now.  Petrie and Petrie. are both mine.  I am the founder, but Malte is now the head hauncho here, so his account is on the same level as mine, that's why it says "founder" under his.

We change member title by posting until we reach a certain post count... However, that mustn't result in posting for the sake of reaching those post counts...

Yeah... pretty much EXACTLY what you're doing right now, bestariana1girl. Please stop spamming the forum, polluting RP posts with meaningless emoticons (particularly when you are NOT part of those RPs), and otherwise flooding the forum with drivel. Posts should be meaningful and well thought out to contribute to our community, not irrelevant and spammy.

It's perfectly fine so long as you've learned from your mistakes and won't let this happen again. My suggestions are to not post anything unless you have something to contribute that directly relates to the thread. Posting a smile in a roleplay you aren't even involved in is rude and disrespects the role players that are working in that thread, as well as vandalizes the role play, which can be considered the same as vandalizing someone's art work. One word posts should typically be avoided as well. Try and think of meaningful things to say that will contribute to the building on to of a thread, and not just something like "Ugh." That doesn't add anything to a thread. Something like "I think so and so works because..." and then giving your reasons is a much more beneficial way to post.

I may not be an admin, but I've got some helpful advice you should probably follow if you don't want to come across as frustratingly annoying. (no offense, so long as you actually show that you are willing to do better)

First of all, this isn't Twitter. There is no need for any @ or # symbols. There is also no limit at all on how long a post can be. I'm not saying you should write large paragraphs like in a college essay, but please try to use more than one complete sentence (except maybe for in the Party Room section, where the rules depend on each particular topic). I just spent the past 15 minutes skimming though most of your recent posts and I can't exactly say you seem to know what you are even doing.

Also, some extra advice for posting here. Please try to avoid double posting (that's posting in a topic where you made the last reply). If you wish to add something, just edit your most recent post by clicking the 'Edit' button at the top right of that post. You can also use that to fix any mistakes you made. But don't use it to completely erase the contents of your posts, because that's considered vandalism here.

But my personal advice, please take some time to seriously think about what you want to post. If had just threw all my thoughts down and posted without a second thought (like you have apparently been doing), you would probably now be reading a lot of hurtful insults directed at you, to be honest. But I know better than that, so I take things slowly with each and every post I make. This particular post, for example, I've been working on for nearly half an hour before finally hitting the 'Add Reply' button.

And one more thing: please shrink down your signature image. There is a maximum size limit to what you can put in your sig, and I'm pretty sure yours is currently over that limit. This topic (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=6246) should help you fix that.

posting posts with a little or no content ie lol,  smilies etc, is considered spamming and we frown upon that here. take time to read what previous posts have said , so that you can weigh in with an informed opinion. we dont mind you posting here, as long as you follow the rules. posting 70 posts a day is considered spamming, so dialing back on the number of posts you put up per day is advised as well.
