Once I made a pun without even realizing it. During a students exchange I stayed with a very nice host familiy, who also hosted a Japanese guest (his name was Toko). Toko frequently cooked Japanese meals. Once he made a soup with dried seaweed in it, and we all got a bowl of it. The seaweed tasted very much like fish, so unaware of the double meaning I said that it tasted "fishy". Fortunately everybody was just laughing as they understood that I hadn't known about the other meaning.

There are more puns like this possible in German, but I doubt they'd work out in English simply because either the food those puns refer to don't exist in other countries or they are called differently.

JFK's famous quote: "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I'm a Berliner (a citizen of Berlin)) is sometimes used as an advertising slogan in German backeries as there is a sort of sweet role with suggar on and jam in it which is called "Berliner".

Another sort of dicus shaped cake with a layer of sugar on it is called "Amerikaner" which is German for (you may guess already) "American".

I had hoped there was a thread for puns. I love puns.
Here's one from a video game that I thought was funny.
"I used to be addicted to soap, but I'm all clean now."
It's stupid, I know, but that's the beauty of puns, at least to me.

I was wondering why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Unfortunately I didn't make that one up myself. I read it online somewhere, but I like to tell it to other people anyway. You could say I enjoying punishing them.
