I have said it before and I'll say it again.  I am NOT an aritst.  Try not to laugh too hard, but here's my pathetic attempt at drawing Littlefoot freehand.

Okay.  I photoshopped the thing cuz believe it or not, I have no coloring utensils of any kind.

I could have spent a lot more time on it but I'm gonna go get some coloring utensils soon.  I just did this to get an idea of what it would look like colored. :p

actually that looks fantastic

Really?  I thought it was bad since I did it freehand.  And the fact that I only spent 10 minutes drawing the thing.  I then spent 20 minutes in photoshop. :lol

I used an old mechanical pensil that was falling apart.  I couldn't do any shading of any kind with that hunk of junk.  Not that I'm even good at shading...

Whatever else you may say your Littleofoot really doesn't look too bad at all! Especially considering the fact that you drew him freehand. Most people start out copying images from filmscenes. :yes
I also like the fact that you gave Littlefoot a distinct facial expression (he doesn't seem to be happy to put it mildly).
One point that can be improved are the feet. If you draw only the first "toe" completely (or the first two in case we assume the outer toes to be considerably shorter than the next ones) and show only parts of the toe from behind the one in front the feet will look more realistic.
But really, your drawing is better than most people's first attempts at freehand drawing.

LOL.  Yeah.  I noticed that too.  I had no idea how to fix it though.  In truth, I have never even had an art class or drawn anything in my life really.  I was just bored cuz there was no one on GOF except me and I just sat down and started drawing.  I wasn't even going to draw Littlefoot at first.  I just decided to.  There were many times where I almost tore the paper to shreds cuz it looked so stupid, but I didn't want to do that so I just finished it.  You're looking at the end result of my boredom.  That's all.  I will however go get some coloring utensils and color the thing.  I can't do it very well in photoshop. :lol

I can ususally stare at a image of the screen not that big and draw from looking at it using it just a helping stone to get going and so on :)

you did a good job with it :) and I liked it Landbeforetimelover

Really?  Thanks.  Maybe I do have some mild talent, but I could never match up with you Threehorn!  Your drawings are the best!

To be honest, I've seen worse, LBTlover. :) (*points out a cartoon series made with stick figure charcters that had terrible graphics and only lasted a number of months.*)

The sketch alone is actually good, but when color is added, it looks like Littlefoot's tail is literally attached to his legs almost completely.

Aside from that, the only ones to beat you around here are Threehorn, Malte and the animators. :^.^: As far as I know at least. :P:

In short, good, but could use improvement. :)

Yeah.  It was just a quick sketch.  I'll improve on it and really color it later.  I'm gonna fix the feet and the tail definently.  I'll post up the modified image once I get some coloring utensils and fix it up a bit. :)

Looks pretty darn good for a freehand, especially considering you haven't done this before and did it so quickly. :)  Maybe you can photoshop that tail a bit (the cream section looks like the tail is really dragging) but other than that, that's a nice start.

Try drawing some more.  B)

I know how do you feel... But don't be discouraged. I think it's good. *laughing* And I laugh 'cause you put all your effort on the drawing. Good job!

Okay.  I actually got some real colored pencils today and colored it.  Sorry.  My scanner sucks.  I also picked the wrong colors.  I saved the original and made about 10 copies I could screw around with so this is not permanent.  What do you guys think?

And I thought I was the only one to do that ;)
I frequently copy the outlines of a drawing to create a colored and a pencil version of the same picture and also to be on the save side when I screw up
The tail looks better in this version.

I haven't yet come across a colored pencil of exactly the same light purple-brown color Littlefoot sports in most scenes. I guess we may have to make compromises if it comes to some colors. Some people are very good at mixing the colors they want to have by using several layers of different colors when working with colored pencils. I tried this is some of my most recent drawings but was not totally happy with the results as the resulting effect was not a smooth color. It rather looked like Littlefoot was sporting black and blue marks (http://mitglied.lycos.de/malte2709/Drawing...ls-colored2.jpg).
One useful technique when working with colored pencils is to try being consistent in the direction of the strokes you make when coloring the picture or else try to follow the outlines of the part of the body when coloring it (e.g. vertical lines following the outlines of the legs, horizontal lines along the body etc.)

Yeah.  I just figured that one out.  I've never been in an art class so I woulnd't know about stuff like that.  Maybe I could get the colors to match more when I go get my professional pencils.  These one's were only $17.  It's all they had at the town I was in.  I have seen people use wet paper towels and crayons to make very nice pictures.  I still have 9 more copies and the original sketch so maybe I'll redo it once I get the better pencils.

I tried to draw Littlefoot again as soon as I got my professional colored pencil set.  I think this one actually turned out pretty good.  I still used that horrible broken mechanical pencil though.  It doesn't look too good on the computer but it looks great on my wall!  What do you think?

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa146/t...oot2colored.jpg

It's still a work in progress.  I have several dozen copies so I can redo this.  I need to add more detail to the neck and most noticably, add legs!

BTW, I've never taken art.  It's not a requirement at my school so I could really use some tips from those of you who have taken art and/or know the basics of drawing. ;)

Well, it's quite an improvement from your last one.  Just keep it up, and before you know it, you'll be drawing like a master. :^.^:
