On the VHS cover of the Land Before Time 4: Journey Through the Mists, Ikky and Dil can be seen in the background, and Ikky was holding a little pair of binoculars! Was this a deliberate toungue-in-cheek joke, or did the producers really miss something like that?

I'd paste a picture, but I don't know how to do that. Here's a link: Amazon.com-Land Before Time 4 Click on "See larger Image." It's still kinda small, but the binocs are visible.

I am 99% sure that it was a deliberate joke by the artist. It's kinda hard to miss something like that.

Maybe one of the rainbow faces traded it for some information.

It'd be a cool thing to add in a fan fic. It's not often that one gets the opportunity to place some canon Cenozoic Era-technology in the hands of a LBT character.  B)

 Those binoculars have confused LBT fans before and triggered discussion, but of course no more information was ever found on it. I agree that it must be an artist's joke and that the presence of technological devices such as binoculars in LBT is not meant to be canon of the story :lol

Likely I'd guess it was an artist, with either a sense of humor who decided to sneak it in, or maybe one who was getting bored and decided to put it in.

Or perhaps the artist just wanted to see if anyone would notice.

Unless it's an surrealist existential metaphor for his role as Dil's lookout. But probably not.  :P:

I've never noticed that.  Of course, the covers suck so bad that I don't try to look at them.  Quite the opposite as a matter of fact.  The only good one is the original movie cover.

Strangely enough they changed to covers of the old movies (which I thought looked quite nice) to simplified newer versions. The new LBT 4 cover does not include binoculars, Ichty, or Dill. I found most of the LBT covers quite okay, but from LBT 7 on they were kind of degenerating. There were "bat versions" of Petrie on the cover and they tried to make the characters appear look younger by adding baby fat to them which I think looks really stupid. Showing just Littlefoot or just him and a few of the other maincharacters rather than the whole group on the cover was also a bad move as far as I am concerned.

Woah-hohoho!

I suppose it's a funky "easter egg" thing. That's pretty funny!

If they feel like that why not just do a screen capture of a scene and use that for the cover.  It's not like they lack the equipment to do that.

I believe that it is just a joke by the artist.

well.. Itchy was the 'eye's' of the operation... this is a kind of silly art pun to imply that

still... the worst two most generic villains I've seen in any animated film

Well, I wasn't too fond of Ichty and Dill, but I guess it was partly because of their song which I really didn't like at all. The basic concept of two villains disliking each other is somewhat common, but in this case the two villains depend on each other making matters more interesting. I think that Cera, Littlefoot, and Spike would be very capable of dealing with Ichty. What in case they grabbed Ichty when being attacked by him and Dill and made sure that he isn't giving any instructions to Dill anymore (Ducky clasping his beak shut or something along the lines). This would be a in interesting situation. They wouldn't want to take Ichty along, but they couldn't let him go either as he would direct Dill straight to them...
