I think it's funny how Independence Day started early here but not one Canadian here even mentioned Canada Day, which was on July 1st :p

To the Americans: Happy Independence Day! :birthday

Actually, my Nintendo Power calendar lists Canada Day. I just forgot to make a topic :(

Odd that it has Canada Day, though, when it doesn't even mention Christmas :/

I suppose Independence Day is just one of the most famous and most elaborately celebrated national holiday in the world and may therefore receive more attention than many other national holidays.
How is Canada Day commenced?
The British have their Guy Fawkes Night (November 5th) and the French commemorate the storming of the Bastille (July 14th).
Over here in Germany the "national holiday" passes rather unnoticed with hardly any celebrations at all. Economists even spoke up to redefine our national holiday from october 3rd (the day of the German reunification) to the first sunday in october in order to prevent any working time from being lost whenever october 3rd is a working day. Moreover a religious holiday, Penance Day, lost its status as a work free day when october 3rd was established as such... not exactly ceremonial, is it?
Another day considered for a national holiday was November 9th, a day which is important because on November 9th 1918 the revolution began which put an end to the Empire and WW1 and because on November 9th 1989 the Berlin wall was brought down :bang.
However, November 9th 1938 also saw one of the worst pogrom against jews in the time before WW2 (it has sometimes been euphemised as "Kristallnacht" because people thought that the glas shards of the many broken windows of synagoges or shops owned by Jews looked like crystal). For that reason November 9th can hardly be an occassion for celebration over here. There is no national holiday over here comparable to any of yours.

Yeah Happy 4th for us.  I'll be resting most of the day since my back has been bothering me, so I'm grateful for the day off.

Good luck with all those fireworks going off.  It's like a warzone here and it's 10am!  People here start at about 2pm on July 3rd.  It's really annoying.  What's the point?  You can't even see them in daylight.  All it is is this annoying explosion.  That's the reason I don't like indeptendance day.  I am very sensitive to loud noises and I always end up picking up some poor scared animal on the street and then having to try to find it's owner the next day. <_<

Fireworks are illegal in NY.  Only trained professionals can set them off at specified areas and events.

Its been raining off and on all day so I don't think anybody will be setting anything off this July 4th.

I wonder what turn history would have taken if it had rained so hard on that fateful april 19th 1775 as to prevent somebodies flintlock musket from going off and firing that shot that was heard around the world :lol
