I've been replaying these games, and I forgot how cool they were. The gameplay, the music, even the sprites were awesome. These games kind of shaped me, and I wanted to know what everyone else thought of them. Personally, I like Yellow version the best.

Is that the one with Pickachu? Or however you spell his name?

Yeah. I just felt like that was the best game of the three.

Hehe, I bought a gameboy Pocket just so I could play Pokemon (blue) back in the day. :lol
Ah, I played that too much but never got rediculously good at it or anything.  I never had all the right people to trade with so I never got all the pokemon in that game.  I got everything I could without needing to trade (or replay through the game on another cartridge) though, and one or two that did need trades to obtain...

though I never got mew (had mewtwo, not mew), I don't understand, mew is supposedly in red/blue from what I understand now but I was totally confused at the time and..well, I still am, what's a mew, how does it exist in red/blue, is it legitimate or does it require a really obscure trick to get or..what's the deal with mew? :p

Really makes me wonder how players find out some of this stuff in the pokemon games.  Some things are so insanely hidden, you practically need an internet connection and access to a guide in order to have a chance at finding everything, especially in the newer games when certain pokemon are only X location at X time of day...geez, that's brutal.  How would one ever figure that out without some kind of guide?

I guess some of it is explained by NPCs in the game but I suspect there are some that just aren't explained anywhere in the games...oi! :p

Ahh, red and blue..when you could catch everything at any time of day.  The simpler days.  :lol

Personally I believe the first generation of Pokemon are the best hands down...and I caught and remember all 151 of them! Granted I had to use the GameShark to hack for Mew, but I did fight it fair and square and caught it on the first time! I can still remember the time I finished beating the Elite Four and went through the ending cutscene in Champion Tower...it was great! :DD

I played some red and fire red.   I used a Charmander type both times.  Never finished it, but while playing red I did manage to get it up to it's charizard form as I recall.

Yellow wasn't remade Kor, though in the upcoming games heartgold and soulsilver you'll be able to have a pokemon walk behind you again.

The first pokemon game that I played was gold, which was new back then. So I kind of missed the very first generation. I did play both red and blue, but looking at silver and gold I found them so hard to control. I enjoyed playing yellow once I got my hands on it. I kind of abused the red and blue games with my GameGenie to catch any pokemon I still needed for silver. Had all 251 pokemon on that one in the end, sadly enough the game is deleted now(battery died).

So for me.. The first two generations feel as the only ones to me, the rest is kind of meh. Though I've followed the anime series way before Johto was there, I just was not allowed to have any game console ;)

I love(d) pokemon snap!

I only had the "first generation" games. :p I had red and yellow.  Got yellow first.  They were great.  Then about 5 years ago I picked up blue from a garage sale for $3.  About a year after that I got one that was gold in color.  Don't remember the name of it.  Pokemon gold version? :p It was all different and I gotta say I liked it.  But I couldn't play it very well.  I only recognized like 5 pokemon in the entire game so yeah.......let's just say I learned everything by experimenting.  I found out each pokemon's strengths and weaknesses through experimentation instead of study.  Back in the day I was really into this stuff I studied everything.  I could win almost any battle.  I knew each pokemon's stats by heart and knew exactly what pokemon could beat another.  Ah, the good old days. :)

Let the guy who knows it all help you all! :D

First off, here's a picture of Mew: http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/ani151.gif

Mew is THE most elusive Pokemon in the whole RGBY series. (Note: RGBY stands for Red, Green, Blue, Yellow.  These were the versions that came out in Japan and the initials for this generation are concrete to what came out in Japan.  Regardless of what you say, it's not changing.) It was (And still is) given away at events, but many did not have access to those events or simply can't afford to go to them.

The fact is that you can give Mew ANY TM and HM combination you want.  This fact stands true to this day.  It can still learn EVERY TM and HM, and now it can get ANY Move Tutor Move.  So it practically knows EVERYTHING.

There was a little joke about how to get Mew, but multiple videos have proven the method to be false.  So, for the longest time, all Mew Trainers were seen as cheaters since it was SO hard to get.  That is, until one special day.

Near the end of GSC, (Gold, Silver, Crystal for those not in the know.) one person tried one of the most elusive methods ever and actually got Mew.  He immediately posted it on GameFAQs.com, but hardly anyone believed it.  I was one of the few willing to take the chance.

Here's a few facts you need to know about the trick.  First off, in the first generation games, you can pause the game right before a trainer spots you, this means you can then use the HM Fly or use the move Teleport to get away from them.  This is what activates the first part of the glitch to pull off the trick.  This was changed for the later games, making the trick unavailable in those games.

Second, it needs to be done with a specific combination of trainers.  You must pause and then fly away from the first and then battle the second, and NOT lose.  The combination of trainers you use render a specific Pokemon.  So, in reality, you can capture ANY Pokemon with this method and get EVERY Pokemon without trading.

Third, when you go away from the first trainer, NEVER pause the game until AFTER you face the second trainer.  If you do, it will make the trick inaccessible, and could possibly ruin your game, so DON'T do it.

With that in mind, let me tell you how to get Mew.  First off, there are TWO specific trainers you must NOT have battled.  One of the two is either the kid hidden in the grass right after Nugget Bridge, (The one that says "feat".) or the guy that is right in front of the house that leads under Saffron City and goes to Celedon City. (Either one will work for this trick.) The second trainer is on the Route that leads to Bill's House.  He is the LAST trainer looking down before you reach Bill's House. (Note: If the Trainer has a Slowpoke, he's the one.)

Next, make sure you have a Pokemon on your team that knows Fly.  The rest don't matter. (And some Poke Balls/Great Balls/Ultra Balls.) Head to one of the two trainers I mentioned earlier and stop right near him.  At this point travel in the direction the trainer is facing.  Once the trainer is off the screen, move one final step and so that you are right in front of the area where the trainer would spot you. (In both cases, head left one step.) Now, pause the game and save.  This way, if you mess up, you can pick up right before you began the trick.

Okay, when you're ready, take one step towards the trainer and IMMEDIATELY pause the game. (You MUST be quick at this.) If you are successful in getting the screen up, pick Pokemon and choose the one with FLY.  Choose to go to Cerulean City. (Where you battled Misty.) If the trick worked, when you fly away, the exclamation point will appear above the trainer, but he won't battle you.

When you land in Cerulean, head up through Nugget Bridge and towards Bill's House.  Find the kid that's facing down that was mentioned earlier and battle him.  Make sure you ONLY battle him during this part of the trick.  You battle anyone else, you won't get Mew.  Note that, you must NOT talk to the trainer, the trainer must WALK to you and he must walk at least ONE step.  Otherwise, it won't work.  Beat the trainer.

After you win, Fly back to the town before the first trainer you went to. (In the case of the Nugget Bridge Kid, Cerulean City.  In the case of the guy next to the House, Lavender Town.) Now, head towards where the first trainer was.  At some point, (Most likely right when you enter the route.) the pause screen will pop-up automatically.  Press B. (Don't do anything else.  You'll ruin the trick otherwise.)

After you press B, a battle will begin and Mew will appear.  Now you just have to catch it. :D

After you catch it, you can safely Save the game.  Mew is officially yours.

Hope that helps.  Best of luck if you dare to take on the mission. :)

Wow Pokeplayer! That is some guide to getting Mew. I actually did get Mew in the Red Version, but it was from a trade, and the guy who traded it to me used Gameshark. XD

I was a fan as a kid. The Gold and Silver versions were my favorite, but the red, blue, and yellow versions were great too.

Even though I'm not a fan anymore, the games are still fun to play.

Yep, that's the one I used! You can also get other pokemon, depending on which trainer you fight. I've gotten a dragonite, a magmar, and a moltres, all at level 7.

Sounds like a pretty complicated game.  Guess I didn't play far enough or didn't discover much about it back when I played it.

Yeah, it's got a lot of crazy little codes, like this one:

If you get on the S.S. Anne, get the Cut HM straight awya, then fight until you black out, the ship will still be there. Play until you get the Surf HM, then go back to the ship and get to the dock. Then, Surf around the area and there will be a small island with a truck/

It's just a really intricate game

What was everyone's all-star team? (i.e., the team you used to battle the Elite Four and/or your friends) Mine was Pikachu, Mew, Mewtwo, Blastoise, Charizard, and Dragonite.
