It's kind of funny to live in a generation where 71 is "young" XD

According to something I saw, he's undergone a stem cell transplant, and they seem positive that it'll help.

I also heard that. I really hope everything goes well for him now. :yes

It's sad to see this happen to the voice actor of such a beloved character in the series, but let's hope that the future looks bright for him after the stem cell transplant.

I didn't know about Michael's stem cell transplant, Ptyra. Thank you for the info. :yes I'm very happy to hear that they're positive that the transplant will help him.

Unfortunately, amyloidosis is a very deadly disease, and like cancer, there is not yet a cure for it. It happens when amyloid proteins begin to build up in the body's organs, which prevents them from functioning properly. Usually, most people don't get it unless they are very old (100+) or have some kind of genetic abnormality.

Hopefully, he can recover.

I have some new footage. :)

This is a 35 minute Q&A that Michael did on October 29th. This is the best i've heard him since his disease was discovered. He doesn't sound as weak. Also, notice that he isn't bald anymore and has hair again. :yes

They discuss swordfighting in "The Three Musketeers" at the 33:00 mark.

I'm happy that Michael sounds better, and i'm especially happy that he was able to do this 35 minute Q&A/interview. :yes

Perhaps he's on the road to recovery now.  :) It's kinda funny that there are three roles that I always think of when I hear his name; Tybalt from Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, Basil Exposition from Austin Powers, and Pterano.  ;)

I hope he had a smooth recovery... It would just be depressing if something bad happened to him. :(

Here's an update. I have some new videos and a picture.

He's doing okay and he's making a good recovery. He still travels, and he still does interviews and makes public appearances.

In this video from last year (2013) Michael discusses "Amyloidosis and Stem Cell Research" during a public appearance.

This first video is over 18 minutes long, you can hear the detail and quality in his voice throughout his speech. (I know that he sounds like a gravelly-voiced, tired, and elderly Pterano if he were a pteranodon in his 70's and had his own room in a medical clinic/care center for the elderly, talking to visitors.)

But, the good thing is that Michael is doing okay. :) Here is the video:

And more recently, here he is at a photo session on January 11, 2014. (at the time of this post, this is the newest video I could find of him on youtube)

And a picture, taken in (I believe) May 2014:

I just did a little investigation into how he's doing, and he has done a little bit recently. Just as a narrator for a televised version of Sleeping Beauty last year. In 2017 he will be in Quantum Investigations: The Quantum Heist...whatever that is. Pretty much no information on it.

Most of all, he was misdiagnosed with Multiple Mylenoma. He HAD amyloidosis: "a condition that involves the abnormal production of insoluble proteins, which clump together in different parts of the body.

The disease can have fatal consequences – if it affects vital organs it can cause them to shut down – but York, who first noticed symptoms in the form of purple rings under his eyes in 2009, has successfully battled it." (source)

He even narrated an eduational video on it

No, I'm not imagining an elderly Pterano educating the GoF about this. No I'm not snickering at it either. Really.

I will for sure be getting his book; after all, I have the autobiography he wrote in the 90's. It should be a nice refresher.

In short, he's doing just fine, even after such a nasty disease as amyloidosis :)

Oh boy, do I have an update for you. He's voice acting again all right. HE JUST **DID** THE **SIMPSONS**, GUYS!

He made a guest appearance on the episode "Lisa the Veterinarian" that first aired on March 6, 2016. He voiced a 1-shot character, Dr. Lionel Budgie, and here's a video of him in a recording session for the episode. You will like this video, guys.  Here he is now, 2016, voice acting again. I think this was his first animated role in at least 6 years. I never thought i'd see him doing animated voice roles again at first from the health scare, but i'm so glad he's doing animated roles again. He is 73 in the video, and just turned 74 last month:
