Little Angels

Charlie and Sasha rested together in their chamber in the Flea Bite, watching their thirteen children, consisting of their three firstborn daughters, Annabelle the younger, Lila and Katrina, their orange-furred adopted cat son Oliver, their biological sons Romeo, Timmy and Micah, and their second set of daughters Mary, Esther and Abigail.

"It's like I am looking at little angels," he said to himself.

Sasha saw the look on his face and smiled.

"I'm so fortunate to have you as are they," she said.

Charlie rubbed heads with her. The day wore on and night fell. Before bed, Charlie sat there, looking up towards heaven, thanking Annabelle the Whippet angel for allowing him to return. Just then, he heard the voice of one of his daughters.

"Dad?" the voice asked.

Charlie looked to see Annabelle the younger standing there. He smiled.

"It's getting late. Shouldn't you be with your mother, brothers and sisters, getting ready for bed?" he asked.

Annabelle sighed.

"Dad, I have just been thinking about my name. Why did you give it to me?" she asked.

Charlie chuckled.

"It's the name of someone I knew before I was with your mother," he said.

Annabelle's curiosity got the better of her.

"Who?" she asked.

Charlie motioned to her with his paw.

"Come, honey. Get comfortable," he said.

Charlie laid perfectly still as Annabelle climbed up on him and perched herself on his head. He was happy to have her there.

"Look up at the stars, sweetie. There is a place beyond this one called heaven, and in that place, there is a female Whippet named Annabelle who I have had a history with. It was she who allowed me to come to be with your mother. You are named in her honor," he explained.

"Can we meet her?" Annabelle asked.

Charlie laughed.

"Maybe, one day," he said.

Charlie then lowered his head to the ground to let his daughter down and she got off.

"Now, come on. It's bedtime and I don't want your mother angry at me for allowing you to miss it," he said.

The two began to walk to where Sasha and the other girls were. In heaven, Annabelle the angel smiled approvingly at the sight of Charlie and his family before vanishing.
