I see they're becoming a bit popular (myself included as I've been playing around a bit with some free time).
Avatar image sizes should be no larger than 50kb (and I allow 10kb for headroom on the animated ones). So no larger than 60kb please...they do take a while to load.
I will ask you to fix them if they're too large.

Well, every time I try to fix mine, and click on Avatar settings, it won't let me. Just this Personal note thing. I click Update and its back at the Personal note pad. Either that or a 504 error.

Can't help you since you took your old image down. Was there something wrong with it?
Usually what you can do is go to http://www.gifworks.com (http://www.gifworks.com) and use their online tools to make the animated gif smaller. Reducing your colors to 128 or less is really what makes the file size shrink and the images don't suffer too much.

I just use Photoshop. Much harder, but much more efficient. I hate to reduce colors. I usually reduce the size instead.

I haven't got $500. I kind of need that to keep my car insurance active for another six months.

neither did I. I was lucky enough to get my copy from a donated computer I got. LOL.

I'm not that lucky either. :P: You can get lucky and find good free alternatives.

Unfortunately, that free online gif editor only allows gifs up to 400k. It's pretty much useless to me cuz of the large gifs I have. Most of them are at least 5MB (around 5000k) if not more. I would not be able to have a gif as an avatar if I didn't have photoshop.
