I've seen that some of the RPGs have been closed just because they've been inactive for a while. That doesn't exactly seem fair. Maybe someone(me, for starters,) will come along and want to join one, and won't be able to because it's locked.
Maybe it's just me, but that seems kind of unfair.

Well, I personally trust the admin's judgement. If they think that a topic should be closed, than it'll be closed. I think they're smart enough to make that decision for all of us.

Most of the closed RPs I've seen have been closed just because they were inactive. There was one where the creator of the RP said "Well, this RP is dead," and an admin replied "Here, I'll close it for you." I found that rather irritating.

well, If someone says that it's dead, I assume that they mean that they don't want it clogging up the board when no one's using it anymore. I'm sure the admin interpreted it in that mannner as well. There's nothing wrong with closing dead topics. If people want them to be revived, I'm sure theres a way to reopen the topic in the admin control panel. If no one really shows any interest in it, I don't see the harn in closing it.

I had a few of mine closed down cause it crashed and died. Nick asked me if he I wanted to have it closed and I said yes seeing no point in continuing it if it not going to have nothing happen on it at all.

Take it up with the RP's creator, not the admins. We usually are asked to close them. We don't just do that because they're dead. -_-

Why don't you just start a similar RP and give it your own little twist, instead of waiting for the others to do it?
