I'm sure some of the tech-heads here might be able to help me.  Ever since my computer screwed out on me Sonic has been riddled with error messages, even when I tried reinstalling it.  And every free DVD burner I've tried burns DVDs, but they don't work on my DVD player.  If someone knows about a reliable free DVD burner for those who don't want to shell out the bucks for one at the store can you please tell me?  I'd greatly apprecciate it.

If you have a Windows XP Media Center computer, you can burn dvds in Media Center...not the best job of it, but it plays in anything.  If you don't, this solution isn't free but I'd recommend Nero.

You won't find free dvd authoring tools.  Sorry.

Although I no longer use it, DIVX will burn DVD's quite nicely.  It won't burn files onto the DVD though, just movie files such as those taken directly from a real DVD or those like DVD rips.  Other than that, there's no legal way to burn DVD's for free unless you get a really good trial of something.

PS:  vista ultimate burns DVD's the best, but any vista computer comes with free DVD burning tools.
