I recently took a quick look at the board statistics on the bottom of the main page, and I noticed that the number of total forum posts had recently passed 92,000. If I remember correctly, it was 90,000 only about a month ago. Because of this, I actually think we could reach 100,000 in no more than a few months if we continue at our current rate.
I think this proves that GOF has become more popular these days than it may have ever been.
What are your thoughts on this?

Actually, we celebrated reaching 50,000 posts only a few months ago. I think it was like 3-4 months actually. We are certainly becoming more and more popular.

I'm sure once we do hit 100,000 Petrie will make some sort of announcement, even if someone else beats him to it. It'll be quiet a milestone I think.

I guess the program doesn't keep a log? I guess Petrie made the first post. It could have been interesting if you could tell, to have a record of the first post, 50,000, 100,000. ect. Silly idea maybe.

I would love to make the 100,000th post, however there's only one way to prove you did it. You'd have to take a screenshot and you'd have to be the only one on when it said "total posts: 100,000". Very improbable.

There are two types of honor discussed here. The honor of the entire forum to have made so many posts, and the honor of each individual, who knows that they contributed to the post count. Having actually posted the 100,000th post is a special honor because that honor can only be shared by one individual.

I am one to believe that post count doesn't matter so much as the quality of the post. I'd much rather have 100 posts that are long an meaningful than 5,000 posts that are just in the "word connection" or "word association" threads. If I wanted to, I could increase my post count to 10,000 in a matter of days by just making meaningless posts that like just contain the word "a", but that wouldn't mean anything (not to mention I'd probably get banned.) :p

It will reach 100,000 when it does and not before. I've not been paying attention to the total post counts of the site really. I'd not mind if there were no post counts for individuals either, though likely I"m in the minority.

Individual post counts helps to differentiate between senior members and newer ones. It is rather essential in my opinion.

I had the honor of posting #50000, and large percentage of the posts are divisded between four posters, Malte, myself, petrie and threehorn Combined we have posted about 35000 posts, roughly a third of the posts on the board. you can atrribute that to the fact that we all have been active members here for a long time.

The date when you joined is better since I have more posts then some members who have been here for years I bet and I've been here less then a year. I doubt the being more senior counts much here among the regular members for much.

Date joined is best for determining longetivity...NOT post count. For example, Kor has 64% of my total postcount, yet he has not been here since mid-2006. He has just been able to post much more often as of late than I have and replies in just about every single thread that receives a new post.
If you're looking at seniority, some of the most respected have less than 3,000 individual posts.

It is true that activity at the GOF is increasing. More than a third of our members joined within the last year and the number of new people joining us (people who don't just join, but post and become active as well) has never been so high. I am really delighted that many of our newest members who are around for weeks or a few months only have really done so much already and written many interesting posts. I am really happy you came and stayed and really hope that you will remain with us in the future too :yes

It's nice to be appreciated, although I have to say that however much I love LBT, it's the people here which keep me here, not the fact it's related to LBT. In return I'd just like to say thanks, to the admins and all of the great people here who are so welcoming and friendly. Thank you.

I agree with your statement, Austin. I personally would have less posts, but they were all meaningful, than a lot of posts for something completely miscellaneous. However, I love Word Connection and Word Association. They are fun.

It may well happen with all the new members we've had here recently.

I decided to do a little math. In this case, I'll assume that we are at 100,000 posts and there are 200 members. This means that the average number of posts any member on GOF makes is 500.
Now I'll compare that to another forum I'm familiar with, bzpower (the bionicle fansite). They recently hit 5,000,000 posts, and there are nearly 40,000 members. This means that the average number of posts for any member there is only 125.
Considering this, I believe that what makes GOF so great is not the number of members, but the activity of those members. We probably have a large percentage of members here who join and become active rather than join, stay for a bit, and then leave.

Actually of the more than 200 members of the GOF only a bit more than 60 have more than 100 posts. There is a considerable number of members with more than 50 but less than 100 posts, but that number was smaller than that of the ones with more than 100 posts last time I checked. There are quite a few who never posted or posted less than 10 times.
These numbers need not be interpreted as a bad message though. They go to show that it doesn't take 200 people to get a community as active as the GOF is.

Haha May 13th is my birthday. It will be nothing special though(will not be celebrated that day), I'll turn 15 then.. :) May 7th is the birthday of my favorite nephew too, but ok May is full of parties to me. My brother, mother, nephew and a lot of friends are having their birthday in this month. but lets not get offtopic.. :p

But yeah... It's all over now. I never had a plan... I just was desparate; you can find more in the After Midnight section; I posted my "sob" story there (LBT Dream post), and in the post that was asking about, what made us watch Land Before Time, under its section... (Not that I'm implying that you should; but... It's out now, and I can rest easier... Not that I was suffering much...)

EDIT: Unless I were to create an MSN Messenger account... Good thing KNOPPIX Linux has a chat program that handles all of those, plus more... Although, since I don't save any settings to my hard drive, I have to input the port stealth commands and, oh, just about anything else, every time I boot back to Linux... It's all on CD.

I can not see what you have said about christians. But I do understand some people could get offensed, I'm christian myself too but I am known to the fact people don't care too much about that. One thing mister, it probably will be ok. People will forgive everything, time will heal.

I don't know much about your past or your religion, but your dreams shouldn't die of one thing you have said. I have said something stupid and offensive many times, without noticing hurting others. I appologized but didn't want to believe they forgave me. But they did. You shouldn't feel guilty about one bad thing when many good things have been done, really.

A dial-up connection is where you use a phone to dial out. It's essentially like "calling" your ISP... Hmm...
Well... anewonline@yahoo.com should do it... That's what I tried. I hope that Linux chat thing accepts MSN, I don't know... (Took me a while to get access to the signup page, because my security is too high in Windows.)
EDIT: I forgot to mention that a dial-up connection also requires a modem connected to the phone line... It's been too long, ha ha ha! :lol

it dosen't matter if I or poke posted the actual 100000th post. what matters is that this board has reached a milestone f none of us early posters thought we would ever reach, and yet today we have.. we have over 200 members which translates to every poster posting more than 400 times.

Ah darn. I missed it, but I was watching LBT and Inuyasha at the same time when the board hit 100,000 posts. Must say I won't be doing that again. It's too hard to watch more than one different show at the same time unless they're from the same series. I've watched LBT 2, 8,12, 6, and 3 all at the same time before. It was fun. :D

Sounds like it could be fun watching those at the same time. Reminds me of the Angry Video Game Nerd Review for the Rocky video game. He had a different Rocky movie playing in a different room of his house.

At least by reading the "posted on -" heading on what I assume was the 100,000th post, I know that the approximate time the 100,000th post was made was about a little after 9:20 AM (in my time zone, EST)

No way, thos bells, and violins and everything have been there all along in the shape of an active GOF whether or not it had a 100 000 posts. This number does not change the appreciation I hold for this group, but it still is an achievement ;)
