Remember don't talk about pig a lot of us can't eat it.
And we must have 30 days a year where we do not eat.
At least for the malays. Its like going to hell.

You also cannot bring chewing gum or else you will be jailed!

Thanks for the info.  I'll take Singapore off my list of places I'd like to visit.  I won't go to a place where I can't eat or chew gum. I don't exactly like pork and probably wouldn't eat it anyway but I'm not gonna let some foreign government tell me what I can and cannot eat.  I'll drink boric acid if I feel like it and no one has the right to tell me I can't eat/drink what I choose to.

In singapore the government controls part of your salary, expenses, children and so on.
For example
If I have 7000 dollars I must give
25% To the bank
5% Government
40% To relatives
remaining for myself.

Boys are forced to be in the army.Girls are picked.
By 18 you must be able do 25 pull ups
62 incline pull ups
240cm standing broad jump
50 sit ups per minute
Able to sprint 20meters in 8 seconds
Run 7km
You must no how to swim
build rafts
survive in jungles
and kung fu

or else you will be killed in training in the forest.
Its wether you live or die.

Singapore is a great place but not to locals other than that our government is happy to jail tourist and to "dispose" of people who are a threat. As a tourist you face very mild restrictions.

I'm guessing that's some form of Socialist government.

Aaaand about all that stuff you have to do..yeah..I would just..flee the country..go to Canada like Bill Clinton did...

Thanks for the heads-up. Don't think I'll ever be visiting, though.

Sounds like a corrupt government to me.  I doubt people really give that much to be bank and government.  I'm sure there's a lot of under-the-table money earning going on.

And all that physical stuff is BS.  Yeah, I'm with Alex.  I'd flee the country too.  There's no way I'd ever run 7km for any reason.  I've never run any more than a few steps in my life. :p And yeah, I just told me P.E. teacher to go to hell and walked around the track.  So what I got a B- in P.E.?  They're lucky I did anything....in fact all teachers are lucky I don't just stick it to 'em.  I am SO DONE with this BS!  I'm so glad I've only got a year left.  Then I can LIVE MY LIFE and stop being a slave to the government.  And I'm sick of hearing lies of how school is for me.  It's not.  You never learn anything useful.  It's just a ploy to get money.

Sorry.  It's just all the BS just pisses me off.  I'm sorry you have to go through that man.  Seriously.....I'd consider running away with your family and going somewhere where they don't make you a slave to the government.  Don't come to America though.  This country's not much better. :anger

You're my new best friend. You put into words what I can only shout the f-word for.

Anyway, I mean, I can do all the physical stuff, I used to run like 3 miles when I was like 12 (I was like a super hero), but not only being force to do it, but being force to do it for the military..Yeah, I'd leeeave. I didn't think Singapore was democratic. It certantly (spelling?) sounds like it's some kind of socialism, if you have to give most of your paycheck up. Are your expenses (spelling?????) paid for, like your water and electricity bills?

So what do you do with all that money?  Squander it away becoming a military dog, giving all your personal earnings to the government, and being a slave in your own country?  I won't pretend to understand your country.  Never been there and from what you've told me I'll stick as far away from it as possible.  But from my perspective the country sounds like a hell hole.  Do you believe in your government and it's so called ideals?  Is the superiority of your government pushed in the schools and on the TV?  I'd question the intentions of my government and watch my back if I were in your position.

Actually if even though I would love to resist,Singapore has mind control.Somehow if you think of it.Music plays in your mind and you can't do anything.Singapore has very strict laws. You learn 10 subjects out of 100 marks some subjects have a passing mark of 95.

America tried mind control. It was called "LSD". It didn't work. Singapore doesn't have mind control. It's just an influence.

By the information you've given me, I don't see how there could be a riot or strike. Everyone is in the military, and even if they weren't, the military would shoot them for starting a riot.

No offense or anything but you turned me off going to Singapore, forever. I don't care that the biotech industry is burgeoning there. I would never be able to live in what I call a "soft dictatorship". I mean, looking at the penal code and what you give, it doesn't seem like a democracy at all.

Also, is it really true that it is illegal to fail to flush a public toilet after use?

Well that's just disgusting if you don't. :x  To make it illegal would be extreme when all the person lacked was basic common courtesy.  <_<

I don't want to close this topic, but I'm not comfortable with it either.  I don't understand the purpose (I don't believe anyone was going to Singapore anyway) and I don't like some of the comments.

To be honest we still have a lot of good stuff like subsidised healthcare a free house and cheaper education. We have a lot of restrictions but they are small ones here and there.Over thewre small communities govern an estate but everything is still the government.I don't know why people hate it so much.

I'm sorry, but for EVERY bit of my sanity, I shall NEVER visit Singapore.

You've written pretty much EVERY reason I don't want to visit it. :)

I don't think many members here are of age where they could afford to go to any worldwide trip.  Plus, I'd be a tad concerned going overseas and have to manage quite a few immunizations.  Its not practical.
