Title: Halloween
Post by: Amaranthine on October 31, 2008, 12:28:13 AM
Just curious, what is everyone doing for Halloween?

I'm not doing too much. I'm volunteering at a kid's Halloween fair, just look after the kids and stuff. :p

I'm also reading some Edgar Allen Poe literature to scare the pants off me and probably watch some good horror movies. :D And TNMBC.  :)

I basically don't do anything I wouldn't do any other day on Halloween :p I don't go trick-or-treating or pass out any of the candy. But I like the day after, when we go out to the stores to stock up on the good candy after all the prices have been knocked down

Those of us in college that aren't sticks-in-the-mud go trick or treating. I'm dressing as a redshirt from Star Trek.

I dunno.. go to school, have 2 tests, go home again... Going to 'cooking with ghosts' at the scouts. I'll probably be wearing some witch costume for I don't have anything else.

No idea. I just hope no kids will come and trick or treat at my house, since I don't have any candy to offer. Maybe I'll bake something, just to make sure I don't get my walls painted with eggs.  :)

Have to deal with work, sadly. -_-

Even though they're allowing dressing up for Halloween, I'm not going to.  Yeah, nothing this year.

Maybe I'll watch/read something scary.  After all, I LOVE being scared on Halloween. :D

Hmm, I'm not doing that much.
Just staying at home, doing things I always do.  ;)

I don't know, only Birthdays and Christmas are the only days I really "celebrate". ^^

I'm going to pretend it isn't halloween but some other day.  I think I went trick or treating once, no idea why I didn't to a second time, maybe the neighborhood I moved to after my first one or something.

I had to work, but I wore a black "Happy Halloween" longsleeve shirt, black cat ears and a matching tail.  Ya would not believe how many times folks pulled my tail :lol!

Hope you had some fun though.  I guess there is something about tails that makes some folks want to pull them.

I went to a Halloween Party at a local college with my brother, and he were in costume!  I went as a medieval knight and he went as a Power Ranger.  It was outrageous to watch all the little kids pause and stare at him with wide eyes, like he was a TV icon come to life!  I'll try to get some pictures posted of our costumes.

Sounds like you had fun.  I didn't know power rangers were still popular. You can post the pictures 1 or a few at a time, and that way you can add as much info as you want about each picture.

I went to the mall dressed up. I'll post a pic of what I wore. My partner went as The Joker and a friend did'nt dress up. We pretty much trecked the mall, a pet store to get my cat some food and Wal*Mart.

Probably nothing. :p  I usually don't anyway.  If there's some movie on, maybe I'll watch it.  I remember one year I had an exam to take in college, finished it quickly so I could go back to the dorm to watch Psycho on Halloween. :p

I have kind of a tradition going of making costumes, and I think this is going to be my final year.
I'm taking on Midna from Twilight Princess, to make sure my last hurrah is a bit of a challenge :smile

^ And I'm going as a redshirt from Star Trek again!

I can't believe how many people in this thread don't go trick-or-treating. It's free candy! My dad's over 50, and I'm in college, and we still trick-or-treat! It's fun!

^Haha, I usually don't go trick or treating anymore. I'm too self conscious to do that. :p Maybe if I was going with friends or something I would be okay, but other then that I would be, :oops.

Anyhow, my fam usually goes crazy when it comes to Halloween. We have parties, fog, A LOT of scary decorations, the food is creepy, so we tend to go WAY out there. Hehe. :lol

I'm probably going to be a dark fairy this year, or some fairy. :yes I'm starting to really get into them. :D

Then you'd love my collection of Nene Thomas fairy figurines :yes.  I'll have to post a picture :smile.

On the subject of Halloween, I have to work again this year.  I may dress up in my tiger ears and tail again, along with some kind of a Halloween shirt and a pair of scrub pants (so I'm still appropriate for work).

Happy Halloween to everyone.

Hope you all have a good evening of festivities.
Switzerland doesn't really ''celebrate'' Halloween, last year we went to a small party of adults of one of my Mum's american friend's..she doesn't do it every year though, so my sister wanted a Halloween ''party'' before she left for boarding school..so once again..I'm dressed as Medusa...and my sister is dressed as Sora (from KH) from the Nighmare before christmas costume..and Mozart's a pumpkin.:D

I had to work on Halloween (work in a village pub) but it was good fun. We dressed the place up with fake cobwebs, scary trees and jack-o-lanterns and the like. All the staff dressed up too (I was a zombie). We played Michael Jackson's Thriller a countless number of times and the bar staff all did the dance to it on the stroke of midnight. Was good considering most of the punters were dosed before midnight anyway so it just added to the comedy when some of them tried to join in!  :lol  :DD Only pain was, the clean-up afterwards took ages! Didn't get home til after 2.30am this morning...the nature of the industry I guess  :D

I imagine that if Rat_lady7 were still posting, she'd have bumped this thread, but since she's not, I'm doing it for her. :angel

I don't really have any plans for this Halloween. I think we'll carve at least one jack o'lantern (we used to do four), and we'll certainly be in the Halloween spirit, but that's about it.My younger brother also suggested that we buy a bunch of candy, give out huge handfuls to any trick-or-treaters who come by our house (the usual number of visits we get per Halloween is between two and none), and eat the rest ourselves. :p :lol

EDIT: Oh, yeah; if I go to my volunteer job at the aquarium on Halloween, I might dress up a little (assuming it’s allowed). I wear a uniform vest, so it can’t be anything too elaborate; I’ll probably just wear my horned Viking helmet. :p

Okay, I'm glad this was bumped because I have something I want to bring up with this holiday.

The other day, I was helping a customer find an item.  As I was helping him find the item, we go by the Halloween Section and he says something along the lines of,

"I hate Halloween because that's when everyone worships the devil."

I can't begin to tell you how offended I felt.  My family celebrates Halloween and we do it by simply going out in costumes for candy and carving pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns.  We are also VERY LDS oriented.  You won't find us worshiping the devil anytime soon.

Anyways, you guys don't know how much I just wanted to stop right there and backtalk to him.  However, I knew that I had to keep my mouth shut or I would risk getting in trouble and such.

I just find it sad that people actually believe stuff like this. -_-

Hehe, thanks for bumping this Pangaea. :)

I'm not going to respond too much on the religion aspect of this holiday because I already have very biased and heated opinions about that particular topic. But I'll just say that people really need to research their crud before they start making assumptions like that. >_>

Anyway on a lighter note, I plan to dress like Erik in the "Phantom of the Opera", I have the fedora, mask and everything. And I'll be having a party at home with friends. :)

Well, yesterday the aquarium at which I volunteer held its annual public Halloween partyóthe “Scarium at the Aquarium”óand most all of the volunteers and staff were dressed up. I wore a makeshift Viking costume consisting of a plastic helmet (it had horns, which Vikings didn't actually wear, but I wasn't going for a historically accurate costume); a small, fluffy brown blanket that I fastened around my neck with safety pins so that it was draped over my back like a bearskin cape; an antique brooch that my mother lent me, which I affixed to the “collar” of the blanket-cape so that it looked like it was holding it together; a foam sword; and a necklace of Baltic amber beads (amber was highly prized by Vikings as jewellery). Beforehand I had attempted to learn to speak with a Swedish accent, to complete the, but I couldn't manage it, so instead I went with a Scottish accent (my reasoning being that, historically, there were Vikings in Scotland, and I myself am of both Swedish and Scottish descent). I had done some prior research on that accent as well, though my imitation of it could hardly be taken as genuine. :p

I brought with me a bucket of Swedish fish that I had originally planned to hand out to visitors, before I'd learned that, for insurance reasons, all candy that was distributed to the public had to have been purchased by the aquarium. So instead I gave the bucket to my boss so that the other volunteers and staff could have the Swedish Fish; they appreciated that. :smile

Quite a few peopleóboth aquarium workers and visitorsóliked my costume, and commented on it; a couple of them implied that I pulled off the Viking look rather well, presumably because of my bushy reddish beard. :lol

One of the visitors was my youngest brother, who stayed at the aquarium the whole time I was there (over three-and-a-half hours :!). He wore a lobster hat and a necktie designed to look like a salmon. :lol

When we got home, my brother carved a jack o' lantern that looked like a woodchuck :lol (I think that was the latest we've ever carved a jack o' lantern; :o usually we do it at least a few days before Halloween). Only one group of trick-or-treaters came to our house, but hey, that means that we get to have the rest of the candy. :p

So yep, I had a pretty fun Halloween. :smile

I dressed up as a black cat (I'll have to post a picture in the "Show Us" section), and my sister came over with my month-old niece.  My niece had a ghost costume on during the day, and when it got time to go outside and pass out candy, she was put in a brown fleece bear costume.  She looked like a little cub :smile.

Other than that, I spent the day grocery shopping and working on tiling :lol.
