The Welcome Center / Well, well, well...
« on: September 17, 2011, 01:53:54 AM »
...If it isn't the old GoF.  I haven't been here in at least a year, and I don't think I've been a regular poster for quite a bit more then that.  I joined the GoF during one the happiest times of my life.  I was finishing high school, I was satisfied with pretty much everything, and I was in love with the nostalgia of this place, taking me back to my childhood.  Things turned bad no too long after that and I found myself too miserable to deal with any kind of fandom.

I've changed a lot about who I am since those times, and I'm a much happier person for it, just had to learn that change is a good thing.  Finally, last april, a certain group of colorful ponies (which, from lurking around the past half hour, it appears many of you are familiar with) started sucking me back into fandom in general.  I don't know why it took me so long to get back on here, but oh well.  I probably won't be terribly active, I keep myself busy these days, but I'll be sure to pop in once or twice a week.

To all my old friends from this board, I missed ya, and to the new faces that have joined in my absence, pleasure to meet ya.

 :lol
(I missed that laughing raptor, I just had to put one in)

History Section / World War One finishes...
« on: October 05, 2010, 02:08:57 AM »
Well this article pretty much sums up the odd bit of news:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...al-payment.html

I had no idea those payments were still being made, I never knew they were still being enforced after world war two, since the treaty of versailles was essentially out the window at that point.

The Fridge / Yet another earthquake
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:22:48 AM »
First Haiti, then Chile, now take a jump across the Pacific to Taiwan.  Yes, yet another earthquake, this one a 6.4.  Luckily only minor injuries have been reported and there does not seem to be any serious damage.  Perhaps the Earth is sending us a little message?  Or maybe the whole 2012 end of the world thing is kicking off early?  Odds are its simply a coincidence, but still, three large earthquakes and we're only a sixth the way through the year, its rather strange.

The Fridge / GOFiversary
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:57:12 PM »
One year ago last week was my last midterm exam week of my high school life.  Being a senior who had already been accepted into my college of choice I obviously could not care less about the midterms, so I had a lot of free time on my hands that week.  One particularly boring day I was flipping through some channels on my TV when I came across something I hadn't seen in years, the first Land Before Time movie.  I sat there absolutely captivated by it, and my love for LBT was born again.

Over the course of the next week three important things happened.  First I downloaded and started watching the sequels, enjoying the nostalgia of the movies I had loved as a child as well as looking forward to the new ones that had been released in the time since.  Secondly I started writing TEB, a fanfic that gets neglected by me.  And finally, on February 5th, 2009, I stumbled across the Gang of Five and instantly joined.

Its been an increadible year here.  I havn't been as active I would have liked, I thought I would be at 1000 posts no problem by now, this place has still meant so much me.  I consider all of you my friends, and as simply a matter of who I am, I love my friends.  I considered spending some time thanking everybody for their friendship by name, but I'm not very good at such things and I'm too afraid of forgetting someone.  So simply I know I value all your friendship and support.  GOF is a special place to me, and it shall always remain so.

The Fridge / Sick....
« on: February 01, 2010, 01:58:53 AM »
I disappeared last week because I got sick and felt too crappy to show my face, then I spent this weekend catching up on my lost work.  I'm back now and less then an hour ago I finally figured out what I had/have.  Last Monday I started feeling back, but Tuesday was the worse.  It was kinda like a really bad cold, but with a sore throat on the side.  Last Friday the cold symptoms started to disappear and by Saturday all that was left was the sore throat.  About an hour ago I finally got a good look in the back of my mouth (the lighting was just right) and saw a swollen tonsil covered in white spots.  After a quick trip to web MD I have figured out that I have the viral form of Tonsillitis.  Its no biggy and should go away in another couple days, theres no point in going to a doctor because theres nothing they can do anyway.

So, long story short, I'm back.

Role Play Discussion / The Red Wake
« on: January 12, 2010, 02:09:29 AM »
Hey everybody, a couple days ago an idea suddenly hit me for an RP.  So here I am, about to try and form an RP for the first time.  It is a LBT RP and this little intro I wrote right here should give you the basic idea of what it is about:

They had heard the stories for years.  Travelers from distant lands, exhausted, famished, dehydrated and on the brink of death, spun the frighting tales of death.  They told of a group of sharpteeth, their numbers stretching into the hundreds, who killed their prey with deadly efficiency.  This group was known as Death's Claw.

Death's Claw could never stay in one place too long, it's giant appetite and incredible hunting skill would soon kill every green eater in the area.  So its members have taken on a nomadic life, exhausting an area's prey and then moving on.  In it's wake would only be silence, emptiness, and blood.  A red wake.

But this, as the dinosaur's of the Great Valley and the Mysterious Beyond knew, is only a legend.  Told only by Bullies trying to scare small children and feverish travelers drawing their last breath.  Death's Claw isn't real, right?

As you have probably guessed the main idea of this RP is that Death's Claw is real, and its headed straight for the Great Valley.  So right now I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in joining this?

Sound Off! / Grrrrr... Headphones...
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:12:05 PM »
Okay I'm really getting sick of this, yet another pair of my earbud headphones is toast.  I've decided to stop wasting money on these crappy $20 skullcandys and finally invest on a good pair that will last a while.  And I know on-ear or over-ear headphones are best, but I want earbud, I have my reasons.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Computer and Electronics / Win 7 question
« on: December 06, 2009, 01:20:41 PM »
Hey everybody, I have a quick question for those more computer savvy then I am.  Back home I have a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade disk which I had pre-ordered over the summer in order to get it real cheap, but since then I decided that doing a simple upgrade might cause problems since I've been hearing a clean install is MUCH better to do.  I know you can't just pop the Upgrade disk into a computer with a clean hardrive and expect it to work, it has to detect a previous version of Windows first.  Now I have found a very useful article that explains to me how to work around this problem but before I start dealing with that I was wondering one thing.  If I do a custom install instead of upgrade (this is designed for upgrading Windows XP which cannot upgrade like normal to Win 7, but I'm pretty sure you can do this to Win Vista) and then delete the window.old file thats left behind as the remains of the old operating system, will I be accomplishing the same thing as I would with a clean install?

General Land Before Time / Who is really the boss?
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:21:49 AM »
I don't know if this entirely belongs in this section but it could have repercussions on the future of LBT.  Universal as it existed in the beginning of LBT isn't around anymore, for a few years now it has been NBC Universal.  The controlling stake of NBC Universal is owned by GE (they seem to own everything these days) with the other large player being a company called Vivendi SA, which owns 20% of NBC Universal.  Now it seems there is going to be a change of hands.  Right now it appears as if GE is going to buy out Vivendi's stake then sell 51% of NBC Universal to Comcast, giving Comcast the controlling stake of LBT's owner.  Now this could effect LBT in no way what so ever but the fact is that NBC Universal will have a new owner with different priorities, and maybe even interests in resurrecting old franchise.

The Fridge / Mild Annoyance
« on: August 08, 2009, 05:13:22 PM »
Well this sucks.  We're spending the week (today till next Saturday) at a beach house we rented on the Jersey shore.  We thought it had wireless internet, turns out though I have to actually plug my laptop into the modem, which is unfortunately in an open area.  Now I am very private about my love for LBT and only my girlfriend actually knows about it so for the next week I don't know if I'll be on much.  I might sneak in a couple minutes here or there but thats all.  I might also try going on through my phone but thats not easy.  So in case I do disappear for a week, you now know what happened.  See you guys soon, hopefully.

The Fridge / Thats crazy!
« on: July 15, 2009, 08:48:16 PM »
I saw this list of coincidences between former president John F. Kennedy and former president Abraham Lincoln in a post on a website that does top ten lists.  It is one of the freakiest things I have ever seen.

Quote
as i was saying :: here is the e-mail a friend sent me regarding Lincoln (and Kennedy)

Have a history teacher explain thisó– if they can.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln ’s secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy’s Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both! were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named ëFord.’
Kennedy was shot in a car called ë Lincoln’ made by ëFord.’

Lincoln w as shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here’s the kicker…

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Creepy huh?
creepy indeed

Computer and Electronics / Google announces operating system

Google has officially the creation of an operation system to be released within the next year, Google Chrome OS

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/int...-chrome-os.html

What do you guys think?  I'm a bit hesitant, the chrome browser was horrible when they first released, I used it for two hours before switching to firefox.  Now though its my primary browser, so I'm not sure what to think about Google products.

1988 Theatrical Release / An observation
« on: June 29, 2009, 12:09:05 AM »
A couple weeks ago my girlfriend wanted to watch the original LBT so I put on my laptop and we watched it together.  Now my favorite character is Cera so I was hoping she would like her too.  Unfortunately I never realized how much of a... of a... well b***h she is in the first movie.  They really do her no justice.  I'm actually more shocked at myself for never realizing how horrible she is made out to be.  Think about the movie, does she actually do a single nice thing during it?

Argentina apparently

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/24/sou...rnor/index.html

I think what he did makes perfect sense.  I often leave the country for five days skipping on work without telling a single person about my whereabouts.  Not.

Edit: Oh, wow, this suddenly took on a very different nature.  Should have seen that coming.

The Fridge / The most improbable fasion
« on: June 15, 2009, 12:11:38 AM »
The New York Yankees have seven walk-off wins so far this year, which is a very large amount for this point in the season, and their last one was the oddest, and perhaps the most embarrassing, of them all:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADs6kV2428M

Now I've been a life long Yankee fan so I was.... well lets just say happy when this happened but after a few days have past I guess I feel kinda bad for the guy.  Still, he is a major league baseball player, if he doesn't have the sense of mind to use two hands then he deserves it, plus its a good example for all the children playing the game on how not to catch a ball.

The Fridge / So sick and tired of being, sick and tired
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:37:09 PM »
good song, but thats off topic

Since the beginning of the week I've just been miserable.  For the past three days I've been experiencing the worst allergies of my life, to the point that I stayed home from school on Monday (you have to understand, I've once woken up with a 100 degree fever and still went to school, then work after, it takes ALOT to keep me home).  This comes at the same time that I have reached my "fed up" moment.  I am tired beyond the normal sleep deprivation that comes with a bad combination of school work and insomnia.  I've just had enough of High School, I just can't stand it anymore.  It has nothing to do with social situations though (which seems to be the main complaint about high school) but with the district, the school its self, and some of the teachers.  The rules and policies are ridiculous and have been growing more and more restrictive as the years have gone by.  Yesterday I had  my cell taken away because I was checking the time, in a class room with A BROKEN CLOCK!  Maybe if they just got their lazy, unorganized ***es up their and changed the battery it wouldn't happen (and that is quite literally what is wrong with it).  I'm tired, I'm sore, I'm sick, and I've just had enough of all this already.  I can't even finish the simplest task (or the more complex ones such as my secret LBT project that is sitting unfinished).

Anyway, the reason for this rant is this.  If I've seemed irritated or short tempered in the past few days (I don't think I have), I'm sorry.  And if seem that way in the next few days, I'm sorry again.  I'll be happy again eventually, it goes in cycles.

General Land Before Time / Tell a story
« on: May 04, 2009, 10:47:28 PM »
I want to hear any story you have about LBT in your life.  Something funny, or something meaningful, whichever.  This is mine:

Back in 1st or 2nd grade (can't remember when exactly) I had stayed home sick from school one day.  After waking up about an hour later than usual I went down stairs and popped the second land before time movie into VCR (it was my favorite back then) and watched it.  When it was over I rewinded it to the begining and played it again.  I did that again and again all day, the same movie, can't remember how many times I watched it that day.  That's one of my few memories from when I was that young, infact most of my memories from back then have LBT related to them in some way.  Don't know what ever possesed me to give up on it.... Oh well, I'm watching them again and I couldn't be happier!  :DD
