LBT Projects / New (unusual) LBT Project
« on: March 01, 2008, 06:25:50 AM »
Thanks action, I certainly mean no competition either (the more LBT games the better, right? :lol ) and would love to work together, I was looking through the post about your project too. It sounds amazing; from what I understand more of a "World of Warcraft" type of appearance. Furcadia is much smaller and more 2D, however very nice for roleplaying (a fair amount of text space for posts plus you get the visuals).
If there's any way I can help with your project too, just let me know...I'm afraid, as I said, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to java and most gaming programs (I've just learned Furc since I've played for such a long time; my guess is it's probably a little less complicated than most programs like that (once you learn the basics, lol). If there's anything I can do though...

Tails has come to check the progress a couple times with me, so far my main focus is with the avatars, the 'map' I'm using at the moment is just a very small area for 'testing' the avatars as they evolve; my friend has the main map in the works. Here's a little screen from it though...and you'll see what I mean with
'recreating' some of the places from the original movie (just note that it'll look a lot nicer in the actual map^^;; http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9463/duckynspikehl4.png )

A pretty new feature on Furc is that you can make the avatars animate (blink, swing their tails, etc) while in a single pose. I have blinking animations for all of Ducky's poses now, and gave some animations to the smiles (which I'm posting here too, so feel free to use them if anywhere else too you like...I may actually have to shrink them for Furc since they're a touch too large for it's text screen).

Smiles:

(Smile, Stick Tongue Out, Wink, Frown, Scared, Grin)

Hah, I don't find this unusual at all, don't worry. :lol I'm not sure I get attracted to characters in the same way (I don't really get a...romantic attraction, per say), but I can get VERY obsessive about characters that really appeal to me for some reason or another. When it comes to LBT, I really like Chomper and Cera, but there are many...many cartoon characters I 'love' in a sense. I usually like the 'not so perfect' characters, sometimes even the 'villains' or sidekicks to the villains. Characters who're somewhere inbetween 'good' and 'evil', so to speak. Sorry if I'm not making any sense. A couple examples are Iago, from Aladdin and Meowth from Pokemon (also two characters I really love). There's something really intriguing to me about characters like that. They're not good nor are they 'evil', they're...complex. I guess that's it. Makes them interesting and gives them more persona. :P: I can't say I'm physically attracted to them (in most cases), but there certainly is something very appealing about them.^^ So, call it what you like but yes...I love my friends from the animation world and don't really care what people think.

1988 Theatrical Release / Land Before Time sighting on schedules!

I caught this! I was so glad I had the TV on! It really surprised me since they rarely ever play the original movie (at least in America ), sure was a special treat! :wow Now if they'll just play some more of the classics more often...instead of a dozen or so Tom & Jerry and Scooby Doo movies a week.

The program you create maps (and the programs for other things (avatars, items, etc) with for Furcadia comes with the download. So, if you install Furcadia (it's free) then in the Furc folder (C:\Program Files\Furcadia) you'll see an icon called "DreamEd" (looks like a little flower with the word "map" in yellow ontop). If you have another folder (say "LBT" for example) that has all your patches (avatars, items, etc) then when you open DreamEd, click Patches then Dream Settings you can make it so all your items in that folder show up in the map maker (so you can then insert your own trees, plants, etc and anything else you like). The program looks like this once it's open: http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8890/furcseo9.png To place Cera and Ducky there I made them an iteme file in the LBT folder.

It's hard to explain exactly how it works, but once you get the hang of it it's easier. ;) I'm pretty sure Furc has some "How To" guides on their site for using these programs, too. You don't have to stay online to work on the maps and patches either, as long as you have your patches (items, etc) that you're using saved to a folder on your computer you can play with the map at anytime. It's only when you're uploading the dream (so others can access it, once everything is set up) to Furcadia that you have to be online.
This page might help some: http://www.furcadia.com/beekins/guide/

Thanks, Tails! That size actually sounds perfect for Furc, here's an example of the actual game screen size: http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/25/gamescreenni5.png You can make certain things larger, the "panels" to the left have various controls for the games (smilies, icons to change your avatar, etc), it's pretty good for both visual and text roleplay since you have a large area for typing, and get the visuals at the same time.

Thanks guys! Lettuce, the smaller threehorn is actually meant to be Trisa, when I made those icons I just got on a roll and started making some of the newer characters too. ;)

Hey Malte! Great to see you again too!^^ Well, Furc has many pre-made objects (such as trees, plants, floors (grass), rocks, etc) that you can use in making maps (you can also make your own, it's just a lot of pixel work ;) ). A friend and myself actually run a couple feral roleplaying games there, and when I mentioned this project to her she said she might help with the maps some too (she's the one who usually does the mapping in our projects, I'm not too good with it). Here's a couple pictures of some of the maps from furc, the lower pictures showing some actual players and the very bottom three are zoom out pictures showing overviews of the maps:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9226/furcmapssj5.png Just to give you a glimpse of the type of look you can get there. For the LBT map we were talking about seeing if we can actually recreate some scenes from the movie (you know, certain places that really stand out) so we'd probably use a mixture of pre-made objects and some originals.

I'm not good with java or many game programs (such as, making it look
World of Warcraft-ish, for example (although that sounds really cool!); Furcadia is more 2D, your character would look like the Ducky avatar (as an example), or like the coyotes and horses seen in the map pictures. It uses a coding system called Dragonspeak, which can range from easy to very confusing (I personally know how to make things animate (wavy grass, flowing water, rain, etc), make people/avatars teleport to various locations on the map (say you enter a cave, for example, after walking through the cave entrance you actually 'enter' inside), how to make music (midi files) play and a few other things I just can't think of at the moment.

I'm looking through the other post too, it sounds more like a WoW type game that action9000 is making; I'd love to help too if I can (I'm just no good at programs of that style  you're welcome to use any of my pixel art if they help in anyway though ;) ) Thanks again guys!  :^.^:

PS: Some progress: Got a pose for Cera colored and set, and started some rough sketch outlines for Littlefoot and Chomper (just cause I love Chomper  :lol )

Well, let me first say hello again and introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. I came here several months ago, I just have a lot of trouble keeping up with forums sometimes. Anywho, name's Autumn; I'm a huge fan of the 'animation classics', including LBT of course (it's the very first movie I saw with my mom, and has always held a special place with me). I'm more so a fan of the original movie (the singing and 'younger' appeal of the sequels and series kind of gets to me  no offense to those who enjoy it of course  ;) I love some things about the continuations (Chomper, for one).

Anyways, I recently got inspired to start working at a somewhat unusual LBT project. First, does anyone here know of "Furcadia"? (www.furcadia.com), it's a graphical chat/roleplay and my project involves it. In Furcadia, you can have 'avatars' that walkabout the screen, portraits, etc...and your own little 'dreams'/worlds (like a roleplaying "world"). Well, I started one for LBT...mind you I'm not very good with the 'maps' (layout of the world) and right now I'm focusing with making the avatars...so far I have Ducky all set, and the start of Cera (she's very much a 'rough mouse sketch' right now  :lol ). There's also a set of LBT smiles that I plan to use in the dream too (I actually posted those here a while back, not sure if anyone remembers them but you're welcome to use them). Here's a glimpse of what I have so far for this project...

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/9333/avatarsot1.png

In the 'world' your avatar/character would look like that (eventually I'll have all the main characters, at least from the original). The roleplay setting I had in mind is actually from the original movie (before they find the Great Valley, not sure why but I like the thought of playing with that specific time frame more   who knows, might change...this project is just in it's early stages right now). I thought I'd post about it here because this is the largest and nicest community of LBT fans I've ever met, and thought you guys might like it. If anyone has any suggestions or would like to get involved somehow just let me know.

I think perhaps over time some of the lands in the mysterious beyond may start to regrow, but looking at the fact that the characters don't really look any older (in fact, my opinion is that they looked an acted (not the racial issues, just in how they talked, etc) more mature in the original movie...maybe this has something to do with the singing in the sequels and tv show too though, lol), makes me wonder just how much time it's really been since the gang's original journey to the great valley.

It just seems (from what I've seen of the tv show), that they got out of far worse situations in the original movie and sometimes they act like those events didn't even happen in the series. You'd think that after all they went through they'd certainly be a little more grown up now...maybe they keep them at this 'young stage' for the kids though.

Agreed on the rock that looks like a longneck, it was pretty far from the valley as they still had a long ways to go after they found it.

LBT Fanfiction / LBT fanart by me!

Aww, that's really cute! Just like everyone else is saying, I think it's good too! Most people (me too) notice problems in their own artwork. There's a balance, I think, because you should feel proud of your art without getting too egotisical. Everyone, including the most famous of artists, has room to improve their art in some way. It doesn't mean the art sucks at all. You really did great on this piece. Keep it up.  :)

Wow...I'm loving this one!  :wow Personally, I like how the characters are drawn and how you've given Chomper's parents, Claw and the raptors more distinctive personalities. Screech and Thudd look great...especially where Screech is 'sharpening his claws', they just look so...cute. I'm a sap for raptors, though :lol I really like how you're drawing Chomper for some reason, his expressions are fantastic, and he looks a little older too. From the looks of the story so far, it's just the kind of plot I enjoy too...can't wait to see what happens next! I haven't seen too many lbt comics either, so I applaud the creativity of the project too. :P:

Hey everyone, I'd just like to apologize for not being on the forums the last couple weeks, just got caught up in the madness of well...everything.  I'm sure you all understand how reality can get sometimes. I'll be on a little more now, just checking out the many threads I've gotta catch up on. :P:

Random Note: I watched "Walking with Dinosaurs" earlier this afternoon and the baby "longnecks" (well, Diplodocus is the proper term for this species :lol ) really made me think of Littlefoot...I just couldn't help it.

1988 Theatrical Release / Dinosaur Families
« on: April 18, 2007, 04:25:02 PM »
Maybe I'm just a little weird in that I notice these things, but here's something that keeps me pondering lately. I'm not sure if this should go here or in the sequels section, since it deals with both the original and the sequels...and the series. When watching the tv series the other day, I saw an episode that centered on Petrie and his family...(they had to move their nest) however, I noticed it only showed three siblings for him (two brothers and one sister it looked like, since I'm assuming the brown ones are male and the blue ones female, like their mother).

I clearly remember Petrie having at least three brothers and two sisters though (if these colorations are correct; nonetheless five siblings). Although we don't get introduced to Petrie and Spike until later on in the original (and thus don't get to see Petrie's birth like all the others), I've got some screenies that...to me...are quite interesting. I've not yet seen the newest LBT movie, although I wonder if all of Petrie's siblings are shown in that or not. This was a cute episode (and the siblings' reaction and fear of Chomper was a neat little addition), it just really made me wonder about the the number of brothers and sisters and if the writers are keeping track of this. :lol

Petrie's Family:

Nicest picture I could get :)

The same is said of Ducky's family, in that after they reach The Great Valley we clearly see at least three siblings, a mother and a father. Something that makes me scratch my head is when we see Ducky's hatching there are originally at least seven eggs...yet a few moments later (after her mother saves her from the snapper's jaws), they've hatched and three other baby swimmers are seen...not six and you'd think after seeing the original seven eggs. Here's a screenie showing some scenes of what I'm talking about...notice the seven eggs in the lower corner ;):

Also, there's Cera's family...who (from what I've seen of the sequels and tv series) have had major changes. Cera starts out with at least three siblings (sisters, I assume, since she says she has sisters in the original movie ;)), a father and a mother.
I'm very curious about Cera's mother, since in a screenie of after they arrive at The Great Valley you can see another adult threehorn next to Cera and her father; all signs would suggest it's her mother. Her sisters, however, are not seen.   Here's the little collage...

Also, notice that after the earthquakes that both her parents are standing there, so they're alright...and if in fact that is her mother in the valley scene then it just makes it even more confusing. :slap

Somehow I'm guessing not even the writers of the original movie gave the back characters like this so much thought...as I mentioned, I'm just weird.  :lol

Still, I wonder what everyone else thinks on this topic.

Thanks, I figured it was alright...I just tend to ramble a lot and always worry I talk, or in this case post, too much. Thanks again for the comments and the criticism; I see what you mean with Chomper's legs...I think I probably draw raptors a little too much. :lol I'm gonna keep a note of that the next time I'm drawing him though ;)

1988 Theatrical Release / what do you think makes lbt so special
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:09:44 PM »
For me, I've always loved animated movies that center around animals; so naturally LBT was one I was attracted to. It was also the second movie I ever saw, and the first that I saw with my mother (mother present, very important ). Of course, I appreciate it and other movies a lot more now than I did as a very young child; I think the same is true for most people. Yes, it makes me cry...it makes me laugh...to sum it up LBT captures all the right qualities a good story should have. The kind of story that makes you feel for the characters and pulls you into their world. That being said, it goes without saying that the sequels have a much different feel than the original...although I agree that they each have a good message about them too, although clearly made for much younger children. Perhaps the original was intended for "young children" too, but to me it was able to reach out to people of all ages. I clearly remember my parents getting into it too, and crying at the sad parts. There's few "children's movies" that can reach out to everyone like that.

I don't think LBT or TLK can really claim to have created the "circle of life" theory, since it's more or less been around for ages. I do, however, agree that disney's "Dinosaurs" movie seemed to copy from a lot of movies, LBT being one of them...but there were also scenes that made me think of TLK, Tarzan and others. It seemed to me that disney was more after showing off their new fancy computer animation techniques than focusing on an original story.

Ah, what else can I say here? Y'know the "sharptooth footprint" scene still makes me smile...I have to say that's one of the best scenes in the movie. I just love the connections going on there.  :^.^:

LBT Fanart / Just a Sketch
« on: April 18, 2007, 11:50:54 AM »
Well, after seeing "The Lonely Journey" episode on the tv series, I couldn't help drawing out something that was already halfway in my mind.   This isn't yet complete, and it's just a photosnap (not scanned) so some details are harder to see at the moment (like Gitta's teeth), but I figured I'd share it. It's of my character Gitta (velociraptor) and Chomper. What if he met her while on his quest? This is how I'd see that happening.

http://one.fsphost.com/akikowolfi/gittachomper.JPG

Gitta: I'll be your friend.

...Now, c'mon...wouldn't you trust that face? :lol  ;)

Anyways, I'll color this in eventually. Gitta's posture was really hard and I'm still not really happy with it...she's suppose to be slinking around Chomper, but her legs got a little messed up. It's already sketched and inked though, so I'm probably limited as to how much I can touch it up when coloring.

I apologize for how much I'm posting lately, I just get on these sprees sometimes.

Role Play Discussion / Trust: A Roleplay Idea
« on: April 16, 2007, 09:08:05 AM »
Hrm, well if you guys are interested I guess I could go ahead and start a thread..the only problem I'm seeing as we probably need more people to rp as canon characters. So, unless we just start out with originals... And yes, Gitta is a Velociraptor; not like the ones in Jurassic Park that (realistically) are more the size of Utahraptors. I think the actual Velociraptor is around the size of a wolf, plus Gitta's still young and kind of on the tiny size as it is. :lol

1988 Theatrical Release / LBT & You!
« on: April 16, 2007, 09:01:59 AM »
Aww, those are adorable photos Malte! I think I had that Ducky plushie...might still, somewhere... it's been a long time though. :( I do have a Littlefoot plushie that I found at a thrift shop a few years ago...he only has one and a half eyes and he's kinda tattered looking...I figured no one else would get him. I did though, and as "messed up" as he looks, I'm quite glad I 'rescued' him.

That's really cool with the Spike plushie, and I ageee...I have a little connection to the character Furball from Tiny Toons because as a kid I used to carry a Furball plushie around with me everywhere for years...he became like the velveteen rabbit to me, and I still have him, of course. ;)

Oh, I probably have more too...in fact I know I have a picture somewhere of me with all my lbt puppets in a marching line along with other toys.  :P:  I'm just not sure where those are at the moment. I have multiples of some of those puppets since during the early to mid 90's they were quite a common sight at garage sales annd the likes, and I always snatched them up. :lol

Heh, I'm not sure if there's another topic quite like this one; feel free to lock this if there is or something...but I thought this was a cute little idea. :P: Have any pictures of you "with" the LBT characters (aka plushies and such ;))? Here's one of my little memories...

I think this photo was snapped shortly after my dad returned from his trip to delaware, where he got me Sharptooth from Pizza Hut (the last puppet I needed to complete the collection).

I found it while looking through photos the other day and thought you guys might like if I shared it.  :lol

LBT Fanart / Land before time sculpturing
« on: April 15, 2007, 03:11:31 PM »
Oh those are amazing! :wow I'm not sure I could even attempt to work with something like that, but then again I never knew I'd get so into working with sculpting clay either. ;) It's always fun to play around with new things. You've done a fantastic job on these; I can't wait to see the one of Cera!

I'm afraid the only figurines I have are a couple burger king type toys and the hand puppets Pizza Hut came out with in the 80's...not sure if those are of any help, but I have the whole set of them. (the hand puppets that is) :P:

Again, wonderful work...and a plus for something so creative and original!

Woa, novaflare...this is certainly the best of your work that I've seen so far. :) I'm not sure how much proper criticism I could give since I'm horrible with most everything computer-made and wouldn't know where to start. Looking great though, it's interesting to see the process thus far and I'm really curious to see how this evolves. :yes

LBT Fanfiction / Winding Trails
« on: April 10, 2007, 01:10:19 PM »
Thanks, and it takes place after the original...exact timeframe I'm not sure, but sometime after Chomper is back with them (I haven't seen all the sequels and only a few eps of the tv series keep in mind. So I can't always take all those into account.) The majority of what I have there so far (except for the first two paragraphs) are Littlefoot's memories. He's standing in front of the longneck rock and remembering these things...this concept is actually something that happens to me quite a lot, actually. Revisiting places where certain events took place, especially powerful events, can cause one to "see" a collage of memories, in a sense...at least that's how it is for me. It's messy right now, so I apologize if it's a little confusing.
