1988 Theatrical Release / Re: So what attracted you to this movie originally?
« Last post by Dr. Rex on November 25, 2023, 11:44:17 PM »
Well, firstly, it was the fact that I had already seen LBT II and LBT III before watching this movie, so I knew that this movie would feature characters I was already familiar with. There was also the fact that I knew it would be the origin story of their friendship, so that was definitely a lure for me.

Ohh, that is interesting. I never really thought of the first movie as being the 'origin story episode' before, since I simply watched the films in order, but that would definitely be a unique way to approach it if you'd already seen the sequels.

For me, it was a movie I could remember from my childhood, but I hadn't seen it in almost two decades. After I happened to see an online article discussing the film's 30th anniversary a few years ago, that's when I was inspired to rent it from my local library and then I fell in love with it all over again. And that's what brought me to this lovely community here. :)
Sorry for the very, very, VERY late response. I just saw this.

The only reason why LBT II and III were first on my viewing list was because those were the only installments available at my local library at the time. Eventually, I spotted the original available on the library's catalog and checked it out immediately. It was all just a matter of coincidence and convenience.

Ah, the good ole days of public libraries and VHS cassette tapes...

I remember watching it as a kid, no particularly strong feelings for it but it certainly wasn't bad. I do know that it had two particular moments that probably barely registered for anyone else, but:

1. As a kid, I was traumatized by the episode where Rabbit ordered the bluebird to leave. This was so unbelievably sad that apparently I cried so hard I couldn't finish the episode, so for the longest time I had no clue that they get back together by the end. Genuinely not sure why it affected me that bad, I've rewatched it as an adult and it seems pretty tame, as does:

2. I was fucking terrified of the Horse Thief in that one western episode, and once again my adult self truly doesn't understand why. He was goofy as hell but apparently I was incredibly intimidated and once again unable to finish the episode due to fright. (Both of these would probably have been a lot easier on me if I'd actually watched to the end where their conflicts were resolved, lol)

I vaguely remember watching first, or second Rugrat movie maybe around 2002 on VHS from movie renting shop. I do not remember much of it, aside from names Chuckie and Dil.

For those of you who have not yet watched Chapter 6 of Make Your Mark, here are some preview clips that came out in the days leading up to its release:

Among the comics, a synopsis for part 2 of the Kenbucky Roller Derby miniseries has released:
https://www.equestriadaily.com/2023/11/full-synopsis-cover-writers-and-artists.html

Now here's something pretty neat. Among the items sold in a massive auction in a recent MLP convention are original scripts from every FiM episode from seasons 2-9, including handwritten notes:
https://www.equestriadaily.com/2023/11/scripts-with-notes-from-my-little-pony.html

And regardless of whatever holiday is happening, it's Thursday, which means it's time for the next new episode of Tell Your Tale:

Spoiler: ShowHide
This episode obviously follows the events of the Secrets of Starlight special at the end of Chapter 6 of Make Your Mark. An invitation to attend a fancy celebration in Starlight Ridge provides us with an opportunity to see the realm and its auroricorns in the TYT animation style. Aside from various gags, pretty much the only thing that really happens in this episode is Sunny getting paranoid over hearing what she believes might be the sound of the evil snow leopard Allura. While Sunny's friends are ultimately able to help her get over her supposedly irrational fears, we do see that Allura and her rabbit minion Twitch have indeed followed the ponies into Equestria. Overall, a rather modest episode that does little more than prepare this series for the next story arc.

Thank goodness we no longer have to be concerned with spoilers in these upcoming TYT episodes, now that Chapter 6 of MYM is finally available to watch.
