I know this thread is a little old and I'm late to the party but I had to share my excitement because. I knew for a fact all the copies I have ever owned of the movie had the blue stone. Even the original cover art for the movie dating back to the vhs has a blue stone! I thought it was an interesting thing to hear about. Anyway, a couple hours later I went to IMDb tv to put Stone of Cold Fire on to watch and imagine my surprise when I realized it was the version with the orange stone!!! Might have yelled it was so funny to me to realize that not long after reading this thread. It has to be a newer version even without my glasses I could tell it was a lot crisper than the DVD copy I have.  :petrieLOL

Character Showcase / Re: Doc showcase - June 2021
« on: June 08, 2021, 10:10:05 PM »
I always liked Doc. I rewatched the tv show episode recently and both like and don't like parts of his portrayal. I agree with what was said earlier, that his anger at Chomper was a little weird, pretty out of character. But I do think him mentioning that things could change makes sense. I do like that he found someone to be with, I just think it's such a quick character progression, but since it's a tv episode it just leaves room for us to fill in what happened with them between his first and second visit to the Valley.

Not Doc related but I do at least feel like the episode was the best use of the old sequel tracks. The episodes reuse music from the sequels with new words A LOT and often the words just don't fit- they don't follow the same meter. The one worked here though, storywise and just in general. Nevermind that most of the words were the same.  :petrieLOL

General Land Before Time / Re: Most underrated sequels?
« on: June 05, 2021, 12:55:39 PM »
I agree about Secret of Saurus Rock. It may be a little bit of Nostalgia talking, since it was one of the VHS tapes I watched a lot as a kid, but it's top of the list in sequels for me. Can't count the times that Lone Dinosaur song creeps into my head when I least expect it. I always found the western gripe a little odd since the movies surrounding it also take a common movie theme (shipwreck for Mysterious Island, western for Secret of Saurus Rock, and SciFi for Stone of Cold Fire).

Also, I'm not sure if people usually lump The Big Freeze in with the lesser liked ones, but I always assumed so since I remembered disliking it as a kid. But I rewatched it for the first time not too long ago and it definitely bumped up on the list for me, I can't even remember why I didn't like it now! I also really like Great Day of the Flyers but I don't know the general consensus, I'm way out of the loop on fandom. And I'm biased because I just really like pterosaurs.  :petrieLOL

I like to imagine in part that the Great Valley just happens to be in a prime location to make it the best spot. It tends to be closed off from predators, and the weather doesn't often threaten the residents in a way that would make them need to leave for extended periods. When the Farwalkers in VII are mentioned they seem well known, as if it's like. A consistent thing that they stop in the GV on their travels. I think it was the similar case in XI but it's been quite a while since I've actually seen that one. Some valleys have harsh rainy seasons, causing land floods that they need to travel away from until the wet season is over, some have harsh summers that might dry up the food, or winters that leave all food sources bare. But the valley is just in a prime location and thats why it was in particular so sougth after. (Nevermind indications to the contrary, shhh, I just like to imagine).

Ok, to be honest it never seems they give a good indication of what really makes the Great Valley better than any other green spot but...

General Land Before Time / Re: LBT in the new 2020s decade
« on: June 16, 2020, 03:29:49 PM »
Wild enough even though the tv series is pretty old by now I could swear I remember it being advertised as new as little as five years ago possibly, my memory is super foggy so I'm probably misremembering time, the ads I saw, or both. I know the show initially ran on Cartoon Network in the US but I think whoever owns Noggin got ahold of the rights and they were advertising it as a new show (which is fair, its new the their network).

I'll admit I'm hit or miss on reboots. It depends how they go about it. A reboot on the entire series of the films I wouldn't really like the idea of. There's no reason for it and there's too much good there. A revival, get a cast of people who really enjoy the premise together we'd get some more good movies! I wouldn't be altogether opposed to either a reboot or reimagining of the show, however. It's hard to really change too much since it's just. Dinosaurs in the Great Valley. But take like. Scooby Doo. Where we've got all the movies that kind of exist in their own frame, and then different series. If they wanted that I wouldn't altogether be opposed. Though the only reason I could see for needing to do that in place of a revival is if they wanted to start from scratch with meeting new characters or ditch the redclaw thing for whatever reason. I think the shows fine as is personally (the songs can just. Stop though I'm not a big fan of the reuse of movie music with the words that don't fit the same).

General Land Before Time / Re: Youtuber Reviews all 14 sequels
« on: June 16, 2020, 03:17:50 PM »
The positive is this video is actually how I found this forum! I didn't quite agree with most of the takes though. I think some of the films deserve a little more credit where due but good points were made too. It feels more 'personal opinion and tastes' than proper review. And nostalgia might just be getting to me. (Still, seven so low? I cry). I've always wanted to do movie reviews and a series of Land Before Time sequels would be on the list should I ever get to it. Maybe when I move.

The Welcome Center / Hello
« on: June 15, 2020, 09:32:56 PM »
Hi. I'm Benny, and I'm pretty excited to find out there's an active LBT community!! Land Before Time (in particular the sequel movies I'll be honest) has been a long time interest of mine. My favorites were always V-VII, I had them on VHS. Stone of Cold Fire is one of my top three favorite movies and I still watch it all the time (but we've had to change over to DVD format).

I've been working for...a few years now on a Land Before Time fic. I haven't...actually written or posted anything yet I've spent the most of the time developing locations and characters and, since the focal point isn't on the Great Valley cast. As well as trying to get a feel for understanding the canon characters included. It's a huge passion project and I think I'll finally start writing soon. (I took my UN from one of the characters I've been developing). I'll admit I'm not well versed in forum use and I tend to dip time to time in activity but even still. I'm happy to find out there is an LBT community! I love all the little icons you have.  :)petrie
