Dear friends, thanks to all of you for your birthday wishes. They really, really mean a lot to me.
This birthday should have been a great one and for a long time it really was. But this evening my dear bird Luke died in my hands. :cry2
He had pneumonia. Of course I was at the vet with him several times. I kept him warm with a red lamp. It looked like he was going to recover. He did not stop eating and I never seriously thought that he might not survive it. But this evening he seemed to be very weak. I put him in the cage so he would be in the warming light of the red lamp and near the food.
When I was just talking to my aunt Imme who had called to congratulate me Luke, who was sitting at the bottom of the cage near a bowl of fruit and basil which he loved to much, suddenly twitched. He was panting and gave a chirp. I immediately finished the phone call and opened the cage and took Luke in my hands. And there he died :cry2
I was so fond of the little guy, still am and ever will be.
I just return from the funeral. My Dad and I went out in night and rain and dug a little grave on top of a nearby hill. And I set a stone on top of the grave, a stone which I had marked with a file.
For the moment it is just pain, but that it is supposed to be. :cry2

I am very sorry to hear about your bird dying, Malte. I can understand how you feel. I once had a couple of bunnies which I loved very much, we used to let them run around in our backyard and let them exercise. They were so cute. But then one day while they were out our neighbor's dog got loose and got into my yard and next thing I knew the dog killed one of my bunnies. I was so heart broken. :cry2

I've never had a bird before, but I've lost many other kinds of animals. It really takes it out of me when they die. I hope you're doing all right. :(

I can sympathize with you, Malte279. I once had a pet lizard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_anole) die. I wept. :cry2 Sorry to hear about that on your birthday. I hope things start looking up for you.
