I play the violin and i'm in my school orchestra. I'm also trying to learn how to play the piano and my friend is trying to teach me how to play the electric bass. What about you guys? Do you play an instrument, if so, what instrument do you play?
-
drums, I play drums, not super well, but I can play
-
I am a recent college graduate, but I played the trumpet through junior high and high school (grades 7 to 12). I was never exceptionally good; I survived with my ability to keep time and singlehandedly overpower most of my section :p
(For our big concert in grade 12, I was ALONE on 2nd trumpet because I could bring out sufficient power myself and the 3rds needed extra players to balance the trumpet section LOL. Our 1st trumpet player was crazy-good though. :p I'm still friends with him. Ahh, memories... :lol )
I have been off the trumpet for 3 years now but I have also practiced piano on my own time. I have had no training on piano aside from my own personal practice time. I'm not very good but I can handle basic stuff (I can almost play the 2-handed arrangement of If We Hold On Together on piano :)...almost. :P: )
-
Nope. My mom says that instruments are a waste of money.

I don't share her opinion though...
-
It's the music keyboard for me. Obtaining a music sheet of If we hold on together during my students exchange made me start.
-
I play the fute, and I'm learning how to play the guitar, by myself so it's taking it's time =P
Let's team up and form a band :D

good for you, but depressing your mom thinks that

In case of my family I always was the philistine. My parents would have liked to see me play the flute when I was at primary school. I was too lazy and my parents didn't want to force me to anything. So it took me till 2002 before I started playing any instrument. I have a lot to catch up with.
I consider if perhaps I should try playing some small instrument one can take along easier than a music keyboard. Does anyone here play the flute, the occarina, or the harmonica?
-

I'm game! :lol

It looks from his post that NewOrder plays the flute. :yes
I used to play the recorder (a flute-like instrument but simple to play in comparision) in elementary school; I still have one but I haven't picked it up in years.

who didn't play the recorder in elementary? XD
-
I didn't :(
I confused flute and recorder. The recorder was what my parents had hoped me to play. But I was too lazy back then.
-
I also played the recorder =P
Malte, here's my advice, choose and instrument and start practicing, forget about learning how to read tabs (sheats of music), just practise 'till your fingers bleed. If you can afford it, then take lessons, if not tune out with friends and talk to people who know how to play that instrument. You don't need to start with small insturments that you don't really care about, go straight to the one you like.
-
who didn't play the recorder in elementary? XD
I didn't, i joined my shool orchestra in grade 4, the earliest i could start.

Yep, Everyone in my area that I know played the recorder in grades 4 5 and 6, including myself. It was entertaining. :p
-

Mine did. I was the best recorder player in the class. Mostly because my fingures were big enough to cover the holes! I have always been bigger than everyone else. In fifth grade, I was 5'9".
-
I say yes, and I can play the trumpet or the french horn (and its marching band counterpart, the mellophone). Granted I haven't touched a french horn in four years, even longer for the trumpet, but you don't forget how to play. ;)
-
Yes; I play flute and I would like to go to piccalo  . Tiiny flute that'll take a lot of air!
-
Granted I haven't touched a french horn in four years, even longer for the trumpet, but you don't forget how to play.
You don't forget how to play but you do lose the killer mouth muscles after that much time! I probably couldn't play for 5 minutes now without gettin' tired, even though I still remember all of the fingering. :p
-
Time for a bad joke...
What's the hardest thing to do in a concert band?
keep going!
Keeping the picolos in tune. :lol (usually you only have one for a reason!)

Don't go there Petrie, or I shall be forced to bring out my favorite band joke (yeah...that one :p) :lol
-
I played the recorder while in primary (elementary) school (dunno if it's known by any other name) but I guess every kid around the school age of year 4, their parents get them to try out the recorder coz it's one of the easiest woodwind instruments to learn. Many try but very few stick with it. I still have my old recorder from years back and even my old sheet music. Maybe if I dig it out (and give it a bloody good clean :lol ) I'll see if I can play it again and I'll let you guys hear. :^.^:
I also taught myself to play the piano/keyboard. Because I got to grips with musical score and the science behind music when I was a kid, it was relatively easy to make the transfer from recorder to piano. I'm no Beethoven but with enough practice, I can play pretty much whatever's put in front of me :)
-

Don't do it Action....for the good of the people...DON'T DO IT! (if it's the joke I'm thinking of)
There's a time and a place for things like that! :lol
-

In my case, that "enough practice" is "a Lot of practice"! :lol but I probably could as well if I had a month or more of struggling with it every day. :p
Don't do it Action....for the good of the people...DON'T DO IT! (if it's the joke I'm thinking of)
Heh heh, it probably is. Here, I'll tell a cleaner one than the one I was referring to: :p
What do you get when you drop a piano on an army base?
(scroll down)
A flat major :lol :lol :p
-
No I don't play an instrument.
-
A flat major
:lol iheard a version of that in my orchestra class :lol
What do you get when you drop a piano down a mine shaft
:lol A flat minor :lol
-

LOL Yeah, I've heard that one too! :lol :lol :wow

My favorite is the first viola joke :lol . In fact, i love all the viola jokes. lol Violas always get picked on.

Another violinist, that totals 3 if i counted correctly. I've also tried to learn how to play the keyboard but ive pretty much given up on that. I might get back into it someday...
-
I play the piano.
-
I play the keyboard and I have an ocarina too.
The quality of my playing is a different story though  :(
-

Haha, I thought this was a pretty good viola joke:
What's the difference between a seamstress and a violist?
The seamstress tucks up the frills.
:p Awful.
-
I am playing flute, keyboard and guitar. Well, I am learning guitar now, and it¥s the best instrument I ever played.^^ After that I want to play E-guitar, drums and Bass...
-
Violin, Keyboard, Saxophone, Elec. Guitar (A little)
-
I have and played a Trombone but after several years I doubt I can successfully play it anymore, but if someone asked I'd be willing to give it a try! :lol
-
besides singing, i play the clarinet. three words:
Pain
In
A**!!!!!!!
-
I play the harmonica. Just a beginner, though. I was in choir for six years and in theatre, so I also have a love for singing. I gotta practice outta earshot 'cuz a soprano I voice can bring on ringing ears :lol :lol :lol.
-
I have an acoustic guitar I hardly ever practice with :p
-
Recorder :D I can make any kind of melody without noticing :p
But no, nothing else.. I was too lazy to go to more lessons.. I hated to study and practise.. I guess.. It was really my laziness.
-
I play a wicked sweet air bagpipes.
-
I play the trombone in my schools band
-
I play...quite a few...don't feel like listing all of them again
-

I never really read this but... We didn't have lessons on our primary school, I had lessons outside of school.
-
I am currently learning how to play the piano.
However, I can play the violin and drums (but not at the same time<joke>).
-
I'll have to say no on that one, B) cool if I get a whole on an Electric Keyboard.
-
Yeah, shoot, I'm a lurker now, gone, but I still post now and then... Tonight is one of those nights, as I head off to bed...
Once in a while, when I'm in a mood, I stick a trumpet up to my lips... Inspired by Miles Davis; I would certainly like to try playing better at some point... If I ever get that kind of time again...
-

You're not really a lurker NN. You stick around all the time replying to topics, could just as well say you're active again. Don't deny it.
I'm sure you'll be able to play your trumpet some more in the future :)
-

Matter of fact, I've been playing it a little lately. Hitting the upper register sometimes causes my neck to hurt, though; I really should work on structure some more, instead of trying to see how high I can go... I'll need a 10 & 1/2 C mouthpiece, though, eventually...
-
I used to play the recorder and I now play the Trumpet.
-
Began playing an Ocarina! I finally got hold of one, and I'm raring to go!
-
I can play the piano and trumpet myself. It's been quite some time since I've played either, though - at least two years, I think. Played the trumpet in school and when I was in cadets, but I don't have one anymore. Otherwise, I'd probably pick it back up and see what I could do with it. I do own an upright piano, but I can't keep it with me (at least until I get a permanent place of my own - those things are not easy to move, lol). Family's holding onto it for now.
-
i play so many things, but i manily play guitar. i taught myself how to plat but my parents are having me take lessons. everyone i have ever played for says i'm amazing. :)
-
I used to play the accordion when I was little, but I was only beginner. Then, I switched to the piano, which I wasn't very good at either.
But now, I play the alto saxophone. I'm in my school marching band. I can play both classical and jazz, and I'm second-chair in my school jazz band. In fact, I'm going to be performing If We Hold On Together on it in Henan.
Right now though, also trying to teach myself a little bit of recorder. I like how portable it is, and the fingering is fairly similar.
-
Every once in a blue moon I grab my synthesizer and play it. I used to get piano lessons, but my instructor got frustrated with me and that was that. I think I cursed in front of her or something, I don't remember.
-
I sure do! I play piano, guitar, (not very good at it though) and Alto Saxophone. I'm in my school's junior band and I'm one of the best players there! I used to take guitar lessons, but I was too busy and decided to quit. I also took piano lessons too. But I don't take lessons anymore.
-
I play the Acoustic guitar c: Very fun I also play the Recorder ( it's like a flute. lol )
-
Yep, self-taught drums. Not amazing yet, but getting pretty good. It's apparently good enough to get me invited to drum for the school's glee club.
Here's is a good example of my work (warning. Once you listen to this song, it will never leave!)

Since last time I posted in this thread I picked up the harmonica and (very recently) the tin whistle.
-
Although I replied in another thread like this...
Yeppers! I play percussion in the high school band. I'm probably the best player there, and I'm a freshman! Well, actually, there was a guy who was better than all of us (he's one of my best buddies too!), but due to certain graduation requirements, he had to depart from the band recently, and so I've taken over as the best percussion player!
As you could tell, I also play some wicked, self-taught drums.
I can occasionally play keyboards, and I'm trying to be better at them!
I'm also learning to play guitar (both acoustic and electric), although I'd probably be better at bass!
I was also one of those people who played recorder in fourth grade, and I still have that and another recorder.
Some others too, but I'll stop here before I ramble.
-
It's interesting that most of the respondents of this little poll DO in fact play an instrument. Take that poll anywhere else and I guarantee the results will be reversed. Maybe it has to do with the kind of person you are. I guess most of us have more refined tastes when compared to the rest of the world. After all, we all like LBT even though society tells us it's not "normal." I guess we're all mature enough to tell the world to stick that "normal" where the sun don't shine. :p
-
I can play recorder - few Celtic songs for choir, mostly :)
I used to play piano - started when i was five, stopped when I was thirteen or so
I actively play violin - started when I was six. I played in ensembles and orchestras, and I even filled in once for a chamber group for a funeral... I can sight-read pretty quickly.
I also sing - used to be in two choirs, I now sing with my church. I am also familiar with the types of singing known as Singing Out Loud to the Radio, and Singing In the Shower, and Singing Full Blast In the Car With Windows Rolled Down :3

Well, I wouldn't call us "unnormal" ... but yes, it's really interesting that a lot of members can play some instruments and/or sing :) Good point! :nyah
Anyway I play the piano( this one, which only works with electricity :) ) I guess I'm good, but I don't play very much so I could be even better :p
I too sing in our school choir( originally because it gives me a better grade in musics :p( this halfyear I got a 15 points grade, which would be smth. like the American A+ = the best grade existing :DD) but I have a lot of fun singing there ;))
I'd like to play the drums, but I haven't enought space for a drumming set and this would kill my parents nerves, anyway :DD. I really have the talent to do this...
-
Um....does airguitar or singing under the shower counts? :lol
-
I'm a singer. I also play guitar and piano. :smile
-
The piano. I started taking lessons in around May 2002 (when I was really starting to get into watching LBT). I recently held a concert at my house. It went well.
-
I don't play any musical instruments. No real need to learn that skill.
-
Might as well post an update.
Currently I play keyboards, drums, percussion, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, melodica, and alto saxophone, the last two of which are the most recent ones I picked up.
-
I play some piano, and I'm a newbie at guitar and bass. Would love to learn banjo, though :ChomperImAwesome
