I noticed in the scene were the gang all cuddle up and sleep together to keep warm, is when Cera cuddles up to Littlefoot she's one his left hand side. But then all of a sudden in the next shot Cera's in between Littlefoot and Spike...
I think that scene may have been trimmed a little...

I also think the silly tar monster scene (yeah I'm not a big fan of that scene but that's another story) was trimmed are and there. As a kid I used to have the LBT story book Friends in need, and one page had a screen shot that's not in the film of Cera with an angry look on her face after she slipped on some tar.
Also the tar seems to melt off Littlefoot and the other quite quickly as while their laughing their covered in it. Then when their calling for Cera to come back there's just a little bit of tar under their feet. And I noticed it's raining at the mouth of the cave....
So yeah I'd put money on that scene have a few cuts here and there....
It wasn't rain, I think it was the waterfall.

1988 Theatrical Release / Human-isms
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:49:26 AM »
So how does this make sense?
"Some things you see with your eyes. Others, you see with your heart."
So how does a dinosaur know what a heart is and coincidentally use it to represent love like humans. If they were just feeling it in their chest, wouldn't it be called a "pulsating mass" or a "chest thunder" or whatever?
Also, treestars are shaped like human drawing of stars. Wouldn't dinosaurs just see dots?
And then there's stuff like Cera->Triceratops.
These aren't major problems. It's just interesting to analyze why a heart is a heart but a volcano is a burning mountain. Obviously, it was for scriptwriting purposes.

1988 Theatrical Release / Details you've noticed?
« on: December 23, 2013, 01:54:50 AM »
A place for misc thoughts and observations on the original.
1. When Petrie falls from the twig in the tree scene, there is a very brief mistake. Watch the twig. You'll see.
2. Petrie is kind of purple in many scenes.
3. Spike's plates are much taller than in the sequels.
4. Littlefoot finds the treestar in his mother's footprint. Is this the same place she fought sharptooth in the mud?
5. Petrie pluralizes many words as a result of his speech thingy. He doesn't do this in the sequels.
6. Why are there footprints as Littlefoot separates with the group? They aren't theirs, as a scene shows them on the ground before. Maybe it's to show that many died doing what Cera did.
7. A lot of the rock formations have sponge textures.
8. Spike is implied to have a mental disability, which is supported by Cera's deleted comment. But is it exclusive to Spiketails within the first movie's canon? He is, after all, only a baby.
9. Sharptooth's sounds are based off leopard snarls.
10. Don Bluth villains always have warts.
11. The dialogue is fantastic, it sounds like the dinosaurs are really kids. The inflections are great!
12. There is a very high death count in this. Mostly bg characters.
13. Everything that goes wrong in the movies can be blamed on Cera. She constantly gets the gang into trouble. Watch again to see what I mean.

1988 Theatrical Release / Spike's Birth OST?
« on: December 17, 2013, 08:09:35 PM »
We wouldn't have to know the length. The edits would be pretty obvious (sequel budgets, remember?).
Anyway.
Step 1: Find music
Step 2: Clean audio
Step 3: Compare to original
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit!

1988 Theatrical Release / Spike's Birth OST?
« on: December 17, 2013, 01:54:23 AM »
So most of TLBT's OST is on the cd, but Spike's birth scene to Cera and Littlefoot's fight scene don't have an official recording. I noticed that some of the music during the tree scene doesn't quite seem to gel with the animation (I think we can all guess why), but here's the catch; it might be in one of the sequels. Yes, they blatantly reuse music in the sequels. Example; TLBT 2 uses Sharptooth's fight music for the lava scene. Anyway, if we can find this, it could give us clues about the orchestrations of Spike's birth, minor cut scenes during the tree sequence, and even . . .

*conthpeerathy time guyths*

The oasis scene.

So one of my bookie-poos mentions that the oasis scene took place after the footprint scene. I could maybe believe this, considering the sloppy edit after the scene, but here's my counter-argument. After the scene where the longnecks eat all the food, Littlefoot says, "Well, we'd better go down and see if there's anything left." Now, I'm no Bluth expert, but I have a hunch that that line doesn't fit the tone. I think the music was meant to linger longer. That was a weird sentence. Anyway, watch the edit after that. Not only is the audio oddly paced, but the supposed forest has grown less dense, and the surrounding area is different. At the end of the oasis scene, the gang supposedly goes looking for food.
But wait! There's more!
Remember how I mentioned short, cut scenes from the tree sequence? Well, the only reason they cut scenes is for violence or racial symbolism. Ann I dun see no vi'lence in da tree scene.
So did they probably discuss the greynoses and crownheads? Maybeeeeeeeeeeeeee . . .

1988 Theatrical Release / Reused Animation
« on: December 08, 2013, 09:29:13 PM »

I've noticed reused clips from re-watching the film these last few months.
E.G. In the scene were Cera's been chased by the dome-heads in the cave I think they re-used a shot from when she was running in the thorn bush, and they re-used that creepy close up shot of were she screamed ( and can see right down her gob) when she saw Sharptooth in the cave.
And I think in the scene were Littlefoot is running down a hill when he save Ducky and Spike from the lava pit, they re-used (and mirrored) a clip from his mum's death scene were he goes running up to his mum.
They also seemed to re-use bits of dialog too, mainly Petrie's silly grunts.
I checked the domehead one, and it's similar, but not the same. I also found one that was used X3. ._.

Why is it that most LBT sequels have a herd of wandering dinos that stop in the great valley? First of all, is race not a problem anymore? Second, why leave the valley? Isn't the outside world, you know, dying? Plot convenience. Plot convenience everywhere.

1988 Theatrical Release / I FOUND A NEW DELETED SCENE!
« on: November 18, 2013, 12:38:55 AM »
So Littlefoot finds the Great Valley by climbing over a mountain and ending up on the waterfall side, right? Then they all enter through the cave on the opposite end of the valley, right? And the final cut combines these versions, RIGHT?!
Guess what? I found a new background that wasn't shown in the movie.

In the storybook "Search for the Great Valley", there is a still that shows the cave end of the valley. You can see the waterfall on the opposite side. Furthermore, the rock in the grove of "( )"-shaped trees where they hug at the end is visible.

Why did I not post this in the cut scenes topic? Because I wanted to brag, of course!  :lol

. . . Just let me have this one accomplishment.  :cry

As the title indicates, you will most likely guess what I'm trying to do, but don't say it. I want to keep my mystique.

I need your help with the following:

1. Can somebody tally up all of the redubified gasps in the first film? You know, the ones that were origially screams. I just need a tally, not scene locations. I can work from there.
2. I need pictures. Pictures of cut scenes. I specifically need these:
Berry Scene HD pics
Pics of the cel that shows LF running to the GV with Petrie on his head
Pics from the illustrated story book that depict missing scenes
That sketch of the turtles playing
3. I need a good quality download of the track "Sharptoth and the Earthquake".
4. Transcript of the berry scene dialogue as told in the illustred storybook (and also of the FIRST valley discovery).
5. I've probably forgotten something.
