General Land Before Time / Honesty
« on: December 17, 2008, 07:51:08 AM »
The only way I would vote "no" on this thread was if I was half asleep from my insomnia medication and hit the wrong button, which means that I voted "yes". I take a very different approach to this topic. The Land Before Time has been my favorite thing since I saw the first movie when I was five. I absolutely fell in love with the whole franchise. Let me say this. No one that I have ever gotten to know has ever asked me if I liked it, and I assure you that no one ever will. The reason being, is that I am so infatuated with it, that when I try to meet someone, I make it very clear from the start that I love everythng about it. In fact, I normally ask everyone I meet if they like it, and then make it clear why I love it. I got a job at a hardware store a year ago, and every employee who talks to me knows how much I'm obsessed with it. I even told one of the managers there that I got to know how much I love it and he respected that; I had nothing to feel nervous about. Yes, I know it is very painful when someone thinks it's stupid and doesn't give it chance. I get very sad, but only because I feel so sorry for the person who is completely missing out on the adventures of a lifetime. That show gave me peace growing up. It was so hard to make friends, but it was so easy to put in a VHS and imagine that I'm a part of  the greatest examples of friendship, loyalty, and growing up.

What I am about to say, I only say for myself. I'm not giving advice to or judging others in any way, I am merely saying how I personally feel about and handle these types of situations. I am sharing my resolve so my character on the subject will be made clear. My methods are not any better than anyone else's. Different things work for different people.  I have the utmost respect for how everyone else handles these things, and I hope the feeling is mutual.

I am never ashamed of liking a good thing. If I liked killing cats, no matter how much I liked it, I wouldn't go telling people, because then they'd have an actual reason to patronize me, because no matter how you look at it, killing is morally wrong. But if I like something that I know is upright and pure, what could anyone possibly say to make me feel bad about? Their words can't change the fact that what I like is really a good thing. All they can really say is why they don't prefer it themselves. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If someone says "The Land Before Time is stupid" then that is their opinion which I respect. But since I know that it isn't foolish in any way, what have I to be frustrated or embarrased about? I see the light everyday while some just can't or simply choose not to. I can hope that they come around and give this a chance, but whether my friends like something or hate it, it doesn't mean I can't still love it to the fullest for them to see. If someone's negative words bother me, it only means that I actually consider what they are saying, and I am not as devoted as I thought.

Because of this, I am not afraid to spread the good news of what I believe. Because of this, I will not be discouraged at the rejection that will surely come. Because of this, I will not be give up, since I know what is really right. And because I'm still breathing, I will let the world know that I love The Land Before Time.

General Land Before Time / which character would you ?
« on: December 17, 2008, 05:47:58 AM »
This may sound odd, cosidering that I'm a male and all, but my personality matches Ali's the closest. Growing up, I never did much with those I felt were different than me. Now don't think I was conceited. What I meant was, since I was always a little abnormal, I tried to stick with my own kind, those that thought in a similar way. Ali was the same way as a child. And although this story would fit perfectly if a said something like, "But I met someone like me and he made me realize that it's good to have all kinds of friends," I said we were similar, not I am her other worldy double. Ah well. My version is much more simple and actually typical and boring. I simply didn't want to be classified as a type anymore and started socializing with different types of people.
If you'll think back to Ali from The Brave Longneck Scheme, I still have a connection. Now I move a lot like Ali, meeting new people. Now we can see in that episode, that Ali makes a new friend, Rhett, and tries to please him by doing pretty much whatever he said. I am the same way. Not was, am. To this day, when I meet someone, I try to be a "good friend" and try to make him or her happy, completely neglected my own well being, just like Ali did. Now I'm not saying that everyone I meet takes advantage of me, but most people I meet want things a certain way, and I simply aim to please.

Now, if I could meet any character from any story about The Land Before Time, I would definately like to get to know my all time favorite character, which is definately Rita the longneck from Sharptooth Valley. Her personality is very similar to Littlefoot's: oversized heart, caring for friends absolutely, very motherly as proven with Chomper in the sense that Littlefoot was fatherly to him. She apparently is difficult to anger and she is very trusting. She leads the group at times and has yet to be mean to anyone. The main difference is that since Littlefoot is a boy, he approaches life in a masculine way, while Rita is definately feminine; to call her a tomboy would be as inaccurate as statements go. So that's it. I have always liked Littlefoots pure personality and I have always liked girls. Now I can have both wrapped up in one.

Now if this thread was specifically limited to characters from the films and/or episodes, my apologies, I wasn't sure so I just answered with complete honesty. But if an "on screen" character is what this is about, then my second choice is Chomper. He would make the perfect little brother, or perhaps "mud brother." He has the ability to make those around him laugh with out actually trying. (One random example would be from The Meadow of Jumping Waters when everyone said a cloud looked like he was eating sweet bubbles. Everyone knew he doesn't eat them, but he announces that so matter of factly as if nobody knew, that every thought it was funny and burst into laughter.) He is a bit immature, so we would actually get along perfectly, hehe. Chomper is innocent, friendly, and yet will stand up for what he believes in. That's why it'd be great to meet someone like him.

General Land Before Time / Signs of the Gang Growing Up
« on: December 17, 2008, 04:21:41 AM »
Quote
if they in fact grow up from one movie to the next, they do very slowly.
all of them constantly gain experience from every adventure.

I couldn't agree more Shinji-Lee. Everyone else had excellent points as well. I believe that they are definately maturing, as time goes on. A few things I've noticed point toward that notion very strongly. Here's three examples off the top of my head:

Ducky- In The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze, Spike's, well, ways of doing things began to get on Ducky's nerves, which is typical for all siblings eventually. She ended up losing her temper and in the process made Spike feel unwanted. I'm stopping there because I'm proving a point, not summarizing a plot. Then, in the very next movie, The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water, Spike wasn't being careful and knocks her off his back into the mud. Spike looks worried because he remembers from previously that those kind of things annoy his sister. But Ducky has matured because she doesn't get angry and even laughs to show that she really didn't mind.

Cera- In The Land Before Time, Cera has a serious problem admitting whenever she is afraid of something. I mean, she nearly gets a heart attack from seeing a sharptooth then tells the others how brave she was about it. However, in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, it shows that she has begun to look past her pride and admit that things do scare her, during the song "Always There."

Littlefoot- In The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses, he does what most kids do when caught doing something wrong: he lied to get out of trouble. Provided he does make things right in the end, but he caused a lot of trouble. But he's learning. In The Hidden Canyon, when Littlefoot and his friends (excluding Chomper) make a mistake by eating too many sweets and allowing sharpteeth in, lying doesn't even cross Littlefoot's mind. In fact, he decides to tell the grown ups what happened right away. If that isn't maturing, well, I'd really like to hear what is.

As you can see, although they are small steps, they are definately being made by the gang more and more as time passes. And whether they realize it or not, they are preparing themselves for a successful future in the process.

General Land Before Time / Odd Facts of the LBT World
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:31:22 AM »
Ah, I remember the first Land Before abnormality I ever noticed, and it might possibly be the very first one. You guys remember how odd it was how fast Spike grew up in like, I dunno, around fifteen seconds? I mean, Ducky gets flung about thirty feet away from the others, then finds an egg that is barely larger than she is. Inside we find the quiet, baby spiketail, who manages to increase in size by at least five times- in less than a day? He ends up being about Cera's size from recently hatching and the other four either didn't notice or they just didn't find that unusual. Well I did. I understand that Spike's size was for the flow of the movie. I mean, if they hadn't all stood on the now big Spike, they probably wouldn't have reached the leaves on top of that tree. And it would have been awkward for Ducky to ride on someone the same size as her. And Spike wouldn't have been able to help push that bolder on that sharptooth if he was still a little guy. So I his size was important, but that unproportionate growth was, well, a bit out of the ordinary. Since Spike was best at his final size, it might have been more realistic if perhaps Ducky had found him sleeping in the middle of nowhere quite some time after he was born. Then this oddity could have been prevented. But hey, if all Land Before Time films and episodes were perfect, there wouldn't be as much to talk about, would there?

General Land Before Time / Most Dramatic LBT Moments
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:32:01 AM »
I agree with all of you. All of those scenes were very serious and emotional, no doubt. Some of my choices you've already mentioned, but I'll add what I can. The most dramatic moments I can think of off the top of my head that haven't been specifically mentioned are:

1. Littlefoot's mother dying in front of his eyes and him having to leave her and go on his own. No child should go through that. (The Land Before Time)

2. Littlefoot's friends don't want him to leave them and live with his father, but because they care so much, they only want him to be happy, so although they don't specifically tell him to go, they make it clear that they will be fine with whatever he chooses, which takes place during the song "Bestest Friends." (The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration)

3. The look on Chomper's face when, because he feels alone and wants friends near him, he asks his friends to stay at his home, but the others know that they must be with their families, and therefore turn him down. While I know the others did the right thing, I felt so bad for Chomper I wanted to cry. He had had a taste of happiness, then it was taken away so quickly. (The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island)

4. When Ruby sees another family playing together and gets really homesick. She remembers all the good time she had with them and the song "Remembering" really adds to the sad feeling of her missing her family. She needed her friends the most right then, but they wouldn't play with her. They were preparing a surprise for her, but just being with her was the best thing they could have done. (The Star Day Celebration)

5. When Chomper nearly drowns and it takes several of the others to help him since he was tied up and couldn't move. He must have been terrified. He was underwater for so long that I was afraid he had inhaled in a bunch of water and when he surfaced he wouldn't be able to breathe. He ended up alright, but it was so close. (The Missing Fast Water Adventure)

Those are the five most dramatic scenes that I can think of on the spot. I hope that that was a little helpful.
