Actually Montezuma II was the one who was stoned by his own people (at least that's what the Spanish said) while Montezuma I died before the landing of Columbus. You have picked the civilization I was thinking about though. Who took up the leadership after Montezuma II's death?

Actually there were even two "C guys" succeeding Moctezuma II. The first was Cuitl·huac who died of small pox about 80 days after his ascend to the throne (still ruled longer than one US president

). Cuitl·huac was succeeded by CuauhtÈmoc who was in fact the last ruler of the Aztecs and thereby the "C guy" whom I presume you have been referring to.
