Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on January 20, 2009, 08:50:07 AM
Hey gang!

Thought, just for a giggle, we'd host our own Video Games Quiz. I'm aware there is already one in the Party Room but that has remained dormant for a while so I thought we'd start afresh. As with the other quizzes, one person asks a question, the first person to post with the correct answer gets to ask the next one. Clues can be given if after a few tries no one's got it right. Questions can be absolutely anything relative to video games.

Let's see how we fair eh?  ;)

What was the initial intended name for Nintendo's latest home console before it was officially changed to "Wii"?

Nintendo Revolution. I waited and tsarved for several months until they decided to change to "Wii".

So, next question is on me, right?

EDIT: I'm must be seeing things. Don't mind.

I must have been seeing things... don't mind it. <.<

So... For the next question...

How could the game "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest" be acquired?

You were expecting this kind of question, right? Eheh...

A Bonus disc when buying a Nintendo Gamecube with The Legend of Zelda: Th Windwaker" included. The package contained Ocarina of Time along with the Master Quest.
Atleast, that's how I got mine. :P:

By preordering a copy of Zelda Windwaker when it came out for the Gamecube. You would then receive Orcarina of Time, the original version, and Master Quest, and revised version, both for the Gamecube.

I actually have it

Oh God. What's even worse is that both answers are right! I forgot there's also the collector's disk when you buy a Gamecube with windwaker in the package. I got mine through preordering windwaker, but my friend borrowed it and never gave it back lol. I still have the original N64 cartridge so I still get to play it.

All right then. I'm sorry if Explorer was going to say otherwise, but here goes what could be a tricky one.

In 2002, which N64 game contained a line which was rated the fourth worst game line ever?

I'll give you a hint. It's a game you wouldn't expect to receive this.
Probably not a good hint, but it doesn't give anything away.

That is a bad line, but it's still not it

I'll give one more hint, and if you guys still can't get it then I'll give you a different question.

Think about popular Nintendo icons, like Mario, Link, Donkey Kong.............

Post by: Flathead770 on January 28, 2009, 02:08:44 AM
by 2002, do you mean the game was released in 2002, or the game was rated 4th worse in 2002.

Anyways, thats what was keeping me from answering, as i wasn't sure at the time, but i'm gonna guess Star Fox 64.
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: LBTFan13 on January 28, 2009, 11:18:06 AM
It was rated 4th worse, and nope :D  But Star Fox I believe had a line in that list somewhere ;)

Keep guessing!

"Do a barrel roll!"
-Peppy Hare; Star Fox 64-

Is that the right answer?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: LBTFan13 on January 28, 2009, 12:58:06 PM
Star Fox was already guessed, and sorry but it's not. :(

I can see this was too hard of a question to answer without research, so I'll ask another one.

The correct answer was Donkey Kong 64. In the opening rap, during DK's segment, the line which was rated the 4th worst line used in a game in 2002 was, "His coaconut gun can fire in spurts. If he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt!"

I realize i speled coaconut wrong but oh well. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look it up on youtube. It's pretty funny actually

Here's maybe an easier one. Might have to do research here as well, but hopefully not too much.

This famous serious from Capcom intended to release a game on the N64, but instead it was released years later for the Gamecube. This game is a prequel to all the others, and pictures of it can be found on the internet. What is the series, and which game is it?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Explorer on January 28, 2009, 01:00:12 PM
Capcom... for Nintendo...
Well, without researching, the only name that comes to mind that relates both is Resident Evil, and still not sure. ._.
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: LBTFan13 on January 28, 2009, 01:03:53 PM
You're close enough, so I'll give it to you :D

The correct answer is Resident Evil 0! It was originaly intended for the N64, but production of it stopped when the next gen of Gamecube/PS2/Xbox started, so it got transfered over to Gamecube.

Your turn Explorer!

What is called to the element of a game due to which a character can carry multiple guns, weapons, items, etc. without the latest being visible?

I suppose general game element questions are allowed...?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on January 28, 2009, 06:39:06 PM
I don't quite understand the question   Are you asking for the gaming genre maybe? If so it sounds like you're describing a first person shooter.

LBT13Fan: Oh yeah that was pretty bad. Horribly suggestive... :DD But we won't tread there  :lol
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Explorer on January 28, 2009, 06:45:11 PM
No, its a named feature of a game, not limited to first person shooters.

For instance, a character can bring as many bullets, machine guns, etc as you like without them being seen, showing only a character with a few pockets, for instance. Zelda comes to mind, since you only see a sword and a shield and his tunic, no bows, no quivers, nothing.

However, there is a name for this effect. Can you tell me what name is it?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: The Friendly Sharptooth on February 03, 2009, 05:28:08 PM
Yeah, just to let you know, I haven't been ignoring your question for I find it very interesting. It's just that I like a bit of reasoning before a give an answer. I cannot pass up a thread with this title, so I'm definately apart of it, since I viewed this from the start. Other people just tend to answer before me so far...

But it can be days before I respond in some threads because it frequently just means that I'm just searching for an answer. I don't randomly guess and I'm too prideful to ask for hints in a trivia section. I want to find an answer on my own, so that it can't be said that I "had help" getting it.

Now, I have looked in many sites about game mechanics and elements. I didn't find an element with a word for word match to your defination, but this one comes by far the closest to what you're asking. It could very well be incorrect, it just comes close, is all I'm saying.

Is it Graphical User Interface? This is the definition of that one, so if it's wrong, at least you can see why I thought it might be right.

Quote
A graphical user interface (GUI, IPA: /ˈgu¢?ɪ/) is a type of user interface which allows people to interact with electronic devices such as computers; hand-held devices such as MP3 Players, Portable Media Players or Gaming devices; household appliances and office equipment. A GUI offers graphical icons, and visual indicators, as opposed to text-based interfaces, typed command labels or text navigation to fully represent the information and actions available to a user. The actions are usually performed through direct manipulation of the graphical elements.

So yeah, I've been trying really hard, just nobody can actually tell until I find a lead. Anyway, if I'm wrong, as I do tend to be in trivia questions, I'll look until I or someone else can find it. Just please don't take my absense as quitting, since I really don't like doing that with questions from a theme I love that I started on with a definate answer out there somewhere. I'll await your response. Later!

Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on February 03, 2009, 08:22:13 PM
Is it something like an "unlimited sack" where basically, a character can hold an impossible amount of items, ammo, weapons etc yet the player never actually sees this feature. It is ultimately the action of the animation that keeps the submersion that tricks the player into thinking that it is plausible despite a character cannot carry a pistol, a machine gun, a shotgun, a rocket launcher, grenades AND spare ammo for all of these without feeling the strain a little  :D
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Explorer on February 04, 2009, 01:28:20 PM
Yes, and I heard a word inside those " " that sounds much like one of the name's words.

Reckon you're gonna have to give us another clue Explorer. Either that or consider us stumped and you can ask another question (or pass it on if nothing's in mind right now :DD )
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Explorer on February 10, 2009, 02:30:46 PM
I'll give the anwer and pass, then. :D

The answer was Magic Satchel, often confused with Hammerspace!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerspace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerspace)

This definition was given to the game factor that doesn't allow the player to see the multiple items a game character carries! Like the inventory. Its often used in RPGs.

So, that being said, I'll pass! :D
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz

Can't say I've ever heard it refered to that specifically but hey...I am educated a little further now! Thanks for that  :DD

I'll pick up the next question. Just to get things going again:

Everyone knows Sonic the Hedgehog to be Sega's official mascot. But he was NOT initially intended to be. The initial "intended" mascot character was redesigned and later released in a game titling his own name. Who is this character?

Nope...Crash is a character from Naughty Dog. This character is Sega's own. It was pretty much developed by the same guys that brought Sonic into the world. To put a time scale on it, it was pre-Playstation era.

I'm going to take a stab and say Alex Kidd
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on February 10, 2009, 07:50:49 PM
Good knowledge LBT13Fan but it's not right. Alex Kidd was way before this title and there was talk of Alex Kidd being a "temporary" mascot before Sonic came along but he wasn't the character that Sonic was due to become.

OK think a few clues are in order:

It's a game for the Megadrive/Genesis
It was released in 1994 (if i remember rightly)
Anyone who's got a Wii, check out the Virtual Console Titles...the answer is in there! ;)
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz

Bubsy?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on February 11, 2009, 05:34:40 AM
Nice try DarkHououmon but still not right. Bubsy was made by Accolade and was a multi-format release (it was on SNES as well as MD). This title is a MD exclusive title (well, it was back then it's on other formats now). Hope this character isn't too obscure :( Lemme give a few more clues:

The character is not any being of this planet. In fact you could call him "a heavenly body" ;)
His main attack method was with his extendable arm he used to grab enemies and then headbutt them
Levels consisted of treasure hunting bonus stages, special levers used to swing around to reach high places and used sound fxs found in the later Sonic side-scrollers like Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: DarkHououmon on February 11, 2009, 10:55:33 AM
Ristar?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on February 11, 2009, 03:26:09 PM
*plays fanfare* Hooray! Someone got it!! :DD :DD :DD I was beginning to think no one had heard of it.

Ristar was the original character map planned to become Sega's mascot. He was initially going to be a rabbit that ran really fast, attacked with extendable ears and collected carrots. The designers shelved some of the design plans but continued with the speed aspect and, in 1991, Sonic (as he was later named) turned from a quick dashing rabbit into the super-speedy, gold ring grabbing hedgehog he is today. Not completely giving up on the initial idea, the rabbit concept later became Ristar who uses extendable ARMS to attack instead of stretchy ears...A bit of video game trivia for ya ;) (*I seriously need to get out more...* :lol)

OK Darkhououmon...your turn!  :smile
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: DarkHououmon on February 11, 2009, 06:56:49 PM
What video game had gameplay that emphasized earning points to evolve body parts and takes place over the course of approximately 350 million years?
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: The Friendly Sharptooth on February 11, 2009, 09:20:11 PM
Well, I have a game like that. I say "like" because it matches everything but the 350 million years thing. I'm not saying my game doesn't do that, I just never knew about the time period of it, so mine may be it.

I have a game for the Dreamcast called Seventh Cross Evolution. You start as a one celled organism and get points to mutate and evolve new body parts. You don't have to unlock them all of course, just something fun to do. It is a life simulater like the another Dreamcast I have called Caution: Seaman, but SCE has stats and fighting, similar to an RPG. Perhaps SCE could be called a life simulator with RPG elements, if you will.

Great game actually. I really connect to those unusual ones. I got my sealed copy just last year and it didn't cost very much at all, so I guess it wasn't too popular. Well anyway, perhaps I shouldn't have rambled on about a game that might be the wrong answer. Maybe I should wait to see if I'm right or wrong next time. Ah well. I'd really dislike to erase all this now...

I'll just wait and see if I got this right. If I did, then that would be very awesome- finally knowing something in this thread without needing to look it up. We shall see though... Later!
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: DarkHououmon on February 11, 2009, 09:57:02 PM
No, that's not correct. The game I'm referring to was released before the Dreamcast was ever introduced.
Title: Ultimate Gamesmaster Quiz
Post by: Littlefoot1616 on February 18, 2009, 07:50:55 AM
It's kind of an old game but I'll take a stab at it anyway. I think the game's called "Evo" or something like that. It was made by Enix (before they merged with Squaresoft) and the concept was to evolve from a single celled organism into a water bound creature and then into bigger creatures from there onwards. You consumed other creatures to gain points that you then used to build up your character (add legs, teeth etc). It was for the SNES. A friend of mine has it on emulator and I only played it once or twice...

Whad'dya think DarkHououmon? Any where close?

There are two video games that each has it's own theme song. They both have the same title, but are completely different songs.

There are two parts to this question:

1. What is the joint title of the song.

2. Which two games have their respective song?

HINT:
One game is from EA; the other is from Valve.

That wouldn't be LoZ: Link's Awakening would it? The port from GB to GBC incorporated an additional "colour" dungeon to which Link could then acquire a special tunic to wear throughout the rest of the game either beefing up attack power or boosting defense.

Howz my aim?

I thought it had been remade from the SNES. Just to see how low my game culture is. <.<

I'm up for this one! I so am!

Albert Wesker
Joseph frost
Barry Burton
Brad Vickers

I think it was Bard Vickers and Joseph Frost that are dead.
I don't remember what happened to Barry Burton...

Then again, I haven't played trough all of the titles.

Now, is this correct?

Yep, those are the outstanding STARS Alpha Team members.

Albert Wesker - captain and betrayer of them all
Brad Vickers - Helicopter Pilot (he dies in RE3 by Nemesis)
Joesph Frost - poor bugger didn't even get to the mansion to get picked off. Dogs get him right at the start
Barry Burton - another survivor who later had a cameo in RE3

Well played Lillefot! You have the floor! ;)

Seeing as we haven't had a new question up for some time, the floor is open to anyone who wishes to pose a question. The limelight is there for anyone to steal...don't all rush at once now! ;)

There are many types of RPG's: traditional, tactics, action, and others, some of which combine other genres like sports/RPG, shooter/RPG etcetera. Now, there is a one of a kind RPG genre- meaning that currently, there is only one game in the world that has it. What is the name of this game, and what is the full name of this RPG genre?

For a few hints, the only game that has this genre right now is only for the PlayStation 2. Secondly, this genre has two parts that describe what type of RPG this is. For example, a tactics RPG has one part that describes the type- "tactics". The game is not online compatible, and its only mode of play is single player. Besides the RPG part, this game is also an Action/Adventure genre. Now, this is not an Action RPG, but the Action part is referencing to the Adventure part, as this game is turn-based. It is rated E10 for crude humor, mild fantasy violence, and mild language. The game was released in the United States in 09/18/07. That should do for hints for the time being.

Digimon World: Data Squad,  Dramatic/Innovative/RPG

Whew, I was afraid I'd frozen this game forever, heh heh heh! I do have that knack for ridiculously hard questions. I do a little better with answering than asking. Oi.

Anyway, leave it to a Digimon fan like DarkHououmon to answer it. You are correct on both counts. Maybe someday they'll be another Dramatic/Innovative/RPG, but for now, Digimon World: Data Squad is it. You are now free to provide your own question at your convinience. Later!

Throughout the years of video gaming history, controllers have gone through a lot of changes and improvements. But an upcoming device completely eliminates the need for game controllers altogether. What's the name of this device, who is designing it, and how does it work?

Wow! Haven't seen this up and running for a while. Always game for a game so here goes...

The initial release name for the Gamecube was going to be "The Dolphin". Apparently, there are references to this in some of Ninty's own made games such as Super Mario Sunshine if memory serves me right  :p

How's my aim? ;)

(Just a recap on how this works. Once a question is asked, the first person to get it right gets to ask the next question. Failing that, guesses keep coming until someone gets it right or the forum gives up, in which case the current quiz master can ask another question or can openly pass it to anyone who jumps in next. Consider the questions reset from this point onwards... Have fun peeps! ;) )

Hey, since this topic has kind of died on the vine, I'm going to get it rolling here again.
I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the last question so I'll just ask a new one here:

Name at least two SNES games that were made by Blizzard Entertainment. Bonus points if you can name three. :)

Wow! Looks like someone really had to hit the defib hard on this topic to bring this one back! Thanks action9000!

Kinda sketchy on SNES games besides the obvious since I was in "that other camp" during the 90s console war but didn't Blizzard make something akin to "Flashback" (very similar premise). Blackhawk or Blackthorn or Blackhunt or something? (it's black something I'm sure).

I do know that Blizzard made "The Lost Vikings" series but I'm not sure if that was Megadrive AND SNES or just Megadrive? (ugh... gamer's history knowledge not what it used to be :oops )

I actually didn't even THINK of Blackthorne (that one :p) but you're absolutely right; there's one!

Lost Vikings did actually see a SNES release so that's game number 2! I'll call that close enough since you managed to pull out 2 correct titles and no incorrect ones. :)

I would have also accepted Rock n Roll Racing and Justice League Task Force. :)
There are probably others but I'd have to look up a list. :p

Your go, Jay!
