Music has become such a huge industry in gaming that it has become a genre unto itself. It is so big, we have professional composers working full time with it.
This topic is to talk about Video Game Music. Your favorite, your least favorite, how it's changed gaming... just about anything you can think of that relates to this.
Right now, I'm hunting down a game that was introduced to me by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h91q1cVjtjw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h91q1cVjtjw)
Since it can play whatever song you pick, and only costs $10, I'm hoping to find it. Just know, I'll probably get VERY addicted to it if I ever find it.
As for video game music I enjoy, I happen to really like the many Mario tunes. Even the first one is great. It's hard to go wrong with Mario.
I also happen to like the Zelda themes. They're really enjoyable.
I have yet to own a soundtrack for a video game. Maybe I will one day, just not now.
So, what are your thoughts on Video Game Music? Please post your thoughts.
Thank you and good day. :)

I think it is called Audiosurf. If it is the home page is at:
http://www.audio-surf.com/ (http://www.audio-surf.com/) They have a demo looks like that you can try out.
& for you to see if it is the program you mean I found 2 youtube videos.
The James Bond Theme on Audiosurf on youtube, to see if it the program you are looking for (it starts off with the visual from james bond, but does go to the audiosurf after about 28-30 seconds) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMw0QlaBQTU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMw0QlaBQTU)
Tetris theme done on audiosurf (called Super Smash Bros Brawl version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8pBRjS6gZc&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8pBRjS6gZc&feature=related)

Video game soundtracks are just as big a business as any pop star, solo artist or rapper. I've got quite a few VG soundtracks. My fav composers have to be Harry Gregson-Williams (Metal Gear Solid) and Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy).
Some of the soundtracks I have:
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 7 & 10
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
Sonic The Hedgehog (Various)
Metroid Prime
Ristar
Streets of Rage
Gitaroo Man
Yoshi's Story
Got a few others...can't think of them all off the top of my head!
:DD

I believe khinsider.com had a lot of video game music. I've grabbed some Super Smash Brothers and Kingdom Hearts stuff from them in the past, but that's about all the video game stuff I listen to. In theory, I should like video game soundtracks because I'm a big fan of movie soundtracks, but I find thematic material lacking in games so maybe that's why I'm not so interested.
-
Nobuo Uematsu! One of the greatest videogame music composers of all time in my opinion. One of my favourite soundtracks is that of Final Fantasy VIII.
Although I do not know the composer, I also love the Legacy of Kain soundtrack; they really make the games.
-
Personally, I'm a sucker for any and all songs Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts. As to what soundtracks I own...
Legend of Spyro-All three, at least in parts.
Distant Worlds Final Fantasy Compilation
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess CD
And I'm looking into the Halo Soundtrack 4-pack.
-
If I like it, I'll get it. Frank Klepacki is one of my favorite composers.
-
Nobuo Uematsu! One of the greatest videogame music composers of all time in my opinion.
Have you listened to any of Uematsu-san's "Black Mages" music? It is basically his own band but they do remixes and re-versions of Final Fantasy music. Excellently done.
There was a site I was shown where a lot of VG music was posted but I think it has since shut down due to copyright infringements.
-
Yep! That I have. And I just got another great Soundtrack!
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger!
-
I remember the original Pokemon games having some pretty cool music.
-
have you listened to the soundtrack for "Shadow Of The Colossus" for the PS2 it has some of the most epic music you'll hear in a video game.
-
Knights of the Old Republic also comes to mind.
-
and alot of the new tracks in The Force Unleashed
-
Excited Statement: So true! So true!
-
I enjoy many different music from video games. I recently heard the music from Megaman 2 & 3. It's pretty awesome.
I also love the music from the Final Fantasy games. They have some pretty cool tunes.

I happen to have a link to a website filled to the brim with all kinds of music including every anime and video game known to man! :lol How does that sound?!
FFShrine.org (http://gh.ffshrine.org/)
-
Bugger, the first game I was looking for they didn't have. :p
-
Really?! What game were you looking for? Sometimes the names of the game may be different from the ones we know...or they may not be there at all.

I've always enjoyed the music from Megaman X on SNES. It's probably some of my favorite music on the SNES. I like a lot of other music from games like Goldeneye 007, Metroid Prime, and Super Smash Bros. I think my favorite music of all time is from Golden Sun on GBA. It gets me pumped every time I hear it.
-
I like the music from Kingdom Hearts and the Zelda games(namely Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask). Right now my two most favorite pieces of game music are from Bully. Fancy a listen? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbj1yauIISo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbj1yauIISo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja49mmsx2xo&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja49mmsx2xo&feature=related)

Settlers V: Heritage of kings
Digimon world: Next order
Europa universalis III
Pokémon Gold, Sapphire, Super Mystery Dungeon
Gothic III
Age of Empires III

Kirby's Epic Yarn had a great soundtrack :ChomperImAwesome
-
^ You guys have some good taste, Comp & Mouse :D
Kirby's Epic Yarn is great in general. I dare say it's my favorite Wii game haha.
I love listening to music from the Legend of Zelda series. It has amazing tracks. The indie game Cadence of Hyrule has some great remixes of said tracks so I love listening to those.

Here's a best of the soundtrack that someone put together, but to be honest every track in the game is amazing.
One game I'll always go back to after listening to its soundtrack is FTL: Faster Than Light.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb0NESRNY-w
Here's one of many tracks that I like from that game haha.
I've got bits of the Super Metroid soundtrack stuck in my head today. Here's one:

Titanic: Adventure out of Time has such a creepy and foreboding soundtrack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7TkrhIXFdE
This is the music that plays in the 1st Class Reception area, a place where passengers would gather before and after meals and hang out. In the game it's a dimly lit, empty room and the music makes the place feel unnerving.

I’ve started to begin to appreciate soundtracks for the mini-games on StreetPass Mii Plaza for the 3DS. For a game called Mii Force, the boss themes are pretty catchy.
