The Fridge / For Anyone Familiar With Hospital Work
« on: February 25, 2017, 12:32:52 AM »
Hey guys, it's been awhile. I don't normally post as much on here these days but I still plan to come by from time to time. Anyway, as the title of this topic states, I was hoping I could get the expertise of anybody here who might have worked in hospitals or know somebody who does. Currently I'm writing another chapter of my Dragon's World series (on the last book actually) and in my story, the main characters find a boy who's been badly beaten to the point that he's left comatose. Now the boy wakes up a few weeks later however he can't remember anything about himself, his attackers, etc. when he was brought in, he didn't have any form of identification on him so they can't determine his real identity. I won't get too deep into the details because it would take too long to explain and I don't want to spoil anything. Anyway, these are my questions:

1. When a coma patient does wake up, what do doctors usually do following? What tests for instance do they normally perform to see how the patient is?

2. In the case of an amnesiac, theoretically, if the person in question was brought in without any form of identification on them (say in the situation of the boy in my book), what would happen to the person then? If they weren't able to find anyone who knew the person,  what would they do with them? See, my plan was for when the kid is released, the main protagonist of the series asks the doctor if he and his family would be able to look after the kid until they find his real parents. Would hospitals be allowed to do this? The protagonist's son (and adopted son) along with their friends were the ones who found the boy and had him sent to the hospital so would this influence a doctor's decision on that, possibly show the doctor that the patient, once discharged, will be in good hands? And if not, what would you suggest I do instead?

Thanks in advance to anybody who might answer. I've tried looking online but I wasn't able to find anything relating to what I asked.

The Fridge / My Aunt Has Passed
« on: February 28, 2016, 02:34:19 PM »
Last night at about 11:00, my mom received word that her sister, my favorite aunt had passed away. She had been diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago and just last month, we learned that it had gotten so advanced that the doctors only gave her six months to live. Well, it had gotten so bad that the time was then moved down to just a few days and then, just last night it happened. She had been using cannabis oil which supposedly, even those who were in the advanced stages of cancer claimed to have taken it and felt better afterwards. We all knew it was a long shot but when you've got a family member who's got nothing left to lose and everything to gain, you want to believe that that long shot will work.

I've never been very close with many of my extended family members but I was with my aunt. She was fun, had a lively personality, and I always liked getting to see her. Now that she's gone, it just doesn't feel real. Last night, I dreamt that it turned out she was still alive and still had some time left. I wish that dream had been a reality.

Silver Screen / Cool Cat Saves the Kids
« on: November 16, 2015, 06:09:46 AM »
There sure have been many so bad they're good movies. With films like The Room, Troll 2, Rocky Horror Picture Show (although I think it was intentionally SBIG), and, in my opinion, Human Centipede. Well, a new movie has surfaced that has caught the attention of the Internet.

Enter Cool Cat Saves The Kids. A movie released this year by a man known as Derek Savage (Or "Daddy" Derek as he's called in the film). Cool Cat Saves the Kids stars the titular character Cool Cat, a character whose personality will make you think this was something made in the early to mid nineties as I myself thought upon first seeing it. The film follows Cool Cat as he shows kids the "proper" way to handle cyberbullying, graffiti, gun control, and even stars in the Hollywood parade(I have no idea how he was able to do that). I use quotation marks around the word proper because Cool Cat does a terrible job handling the lesson it's trying to teach. In the part where Cool Cat deals with cyberbullying (or bullying of any sort), he rationalizes that those who bully others do so because they don't have any friends. He even sends a message to the kid bullying him online along the lines of "If you had friends, you wouldn't need to be a bully because friends are awesome!" or something like that even though there are a plethora of reasons why somebody might bully. I'm not saying bullying is good or that all bullies should be seen as sympathetic but this movie simplifies this  in such a childish and quite frankly insulting way. What about kids who are friendless but don't try to hurt others? Are they suddenly bullies because they don't have friends?

The other poor lesson this movie teaches kids is actually crossing the street. At one point in the movie, one of Cool Cat's friends is showing Cool Cat a ball he got. It goes into the street and he runs out to get it just as a car is coming. Cool Cat saves him and lectures the boy about looking both ways before crossing the street. Sounds good so far, no? Well, a little later, Cool Cat and his friends see the antagonist in the flick (a bully named Butch) stealing candy and CC proceeds to bolt out into the street after him WITHOUT LOOKING BOTH WAYS! Completely contradicting what he was just trying to teach. So what are kids supposed to learn from this? Always look both ways unless you're chasing someone then just go after them like a crazed dog?

The last lesson I want to bring up is, in my opinion, the worst one this movie could teach and that's what to do when you see a schoolmate brandishing a gun. So Cool Cat and friends find a gun and instead of trying to handle it themselves, they go get "Daddy" Derek. Now this actually isn't too bad. I do like that the movie encourages kids to get an adult to handle this if they find a firearm. A lot of specials don't normally point that out from what I've seen. Of course, Butch the Bully finds this gun and monologues his plan to take it to school and threaten kids to give him their lunch money. The next day, he brings the gun to school and Cool Cat and his friends see him showing it off to another kid. What is the best course of action they suggest? Going into the school! Yeah, don't try to find a teacher who might be outside, call the police, or hightail it outta there, nope, go into the place that could come under fire. Thankfully Butch is stopped before he can do anything with the gun by a cop who arrests him but I personally think he's just trying to protect Butch from Cool Cat.

Aside from contradictory lessons, the acting is terrible. The guy who plays Cool Cat is constantly screaming his lines, the characters often state what they're going to do or what is going on instead of showing it, and somehow, Derek Savage was able to get Erik Estrada (CHiPs and Sealab 2021) and Vivica A. Fox (Both Kill Bills) to be in his movie. I don't know if he knows them personally or what but I think they're both way too talented to be in this.

In addition to all this, Savage has also gotten into a feud with a Youtuber known as I Hate Everything. IHE did a video where he watched CCStK and commented on it. While I didn't think his thoughts on the movie were too bad, Savage thought differently. He had the video removed from IHE's channel and has even gone as far as to threaten IHE by claiming he'll get his account taken down if he ever makes another video about him or Cool Cat.  IHE, from what I've seen, has tried to be civil and composed about this whole mess (and has done a good job of it) while Derek has continued to insult the guy and threaten him, calling him things like "liar" and threatening to sue him and get his channel removed.

In some ways, I can kind of understand Derek's feelings. It's clear to anyone that he truly cares about Cool Cat. This is his baby, his magnum opus. From what I've read on his IMDB page, Cool Cat was based off an imaginary friend he made in his childhood so obviously this character has stuck with him for a long time.

With that said, however, Derek needs to realize that when you put something out there for everybody to see, you're going to get negative reception. It sucks, but that's the unfortunate truth of it all. Nobody wants to see their work get ripped a new one but it happens. When I post a new drawing or chapter of my Dragon's World series on my DA account, I know there's a chance that someone'll leave a nasty comment on one of my works but I take that risk knowing what could happen because I like to share my stuff and because I want to make it better. The way Derek has been handling this issue with I Hate Everything is hurting both him and Cool Cat. CC is supposed to be a character who is about friendship and kindness, what would he think if he saw his "daddy" Derek bullying somebody with threats of legal action (which wouldn't work anyway since IHE hasn't broken any laws) and threatening to take their account down? I wish Derek would think of this. He seems to treat Cool Cat like a real person anyway so why not ask himself how his fictional (or possibly real in his world) son would feel if he saw his dad hurting another person?

Well I definitely posted a lot. I'll end this post with a reuploaded version of IHE's Cool Cat review. Might want to check it out in case it gets removed again (Warning: Vulgar language)

Gamers Zone / Jimmy Kimmel on Streamers/Let's Players
« on: September 07, 2015, 03:05:40 PM »
So lately there's been a lot of buzz in the gaming community about Jimmy Kimmel doing a skit on Let's players and people who watch them. Having just watched the skit, I was (not really) surprised to find that it was actually pretty harmless yet you have idiots from Youtube sending Kimmel horrible comments going as far as to threaten his own kid's life (Youtube posters doing such a despicable thing? Why I never).

The video in question.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji9KmXwrA5Y

Truthfully, I can understand why Kimmel is so surprised by how much this Let's Play fad has taken off. A lot of Let's Players are older than me but even then, however, I just don't see the entertainment value in a Let's Play. What is so great about watching some numbnuts scream and act like a five year old while playing a video game? That's the kind of stuff I did when I was little and growing up with the N64(Not trying to insult the N64, I still love that console). Walkthroughs I can understand watching because those can actually be pretty helpful especially if you're on the fence about buying a certain game or if you're stuck at a certain part but Let's Plays I just don't get. To me, they're pretty much the lowest form of entertainment.

As for the whole controversy with Kimmel, the way the gaming community has been handling this is truly disgusting. It's one thing not to find a joke funny, I get that. Not everyone is going to find the same thing humorous but when you start threatening the lives of the man and his children, then you're really crossing the line. These guys want to prove to Kimmel that they're not losers or anything of the sort yet that's exactly how they're acting. They are embodying the very stereotypes that surround gamers (easily angered, irrational, violent, etc). Kimmel is older than most gamers today so obviously he's going to be confused by this. It happens with every previous generation. Heck, it's happening with people from our generation. Many of us don't understand why kids today like a certain thing, kind of like how our parents were/are with our interests and kind of like their parents before them and their parents before them. It's a generational thing that will more than likely always exist in some way or another.

EDIT: I guess I should probably mention that even though I don't like most Let's Plays, there are some I do find some entertainment in. Kr1t1kal is just one Let's Player I do find funny and that's because 1. He actually has pretty humorous commentary and 2. He doesn't need to pretend to be someone else when playing a game. DSP, or DarksydePhil, is another one I like (ironically) because it's just so amusing watching him flounder around with even the simplest task in a game.

The Fridge / Anyone else getting this?
« on: August 08, 2015, 12:22:39 AM »
So I've been browsing several different wikis (MLP, One Piece, Naruto, Metal Gear, even Land Before Time to name a few) and each one of them has had this strange pop up written in all Japanese lettering. I used Google Translate to make find out what it was saying and roughly it translates to "This community is asking the post of your such a fan! Let's edit the article."

Now I probably would have brushed it off if it was something that just popped up on wikis for eastern franchises like Metal Gear or One Piece but it's even popped up on wikis for western brands like MLP or Land Before Time. I doubt this thing is supposed to be showing up so I wonder if either 1. It's a new feature that's been/being installed on all Wikis (unlikely). 2. There's a virus or something on Wikia (possibly). Or 3. My computer has Malware on it that's making it pop up (also possible but seeing as how I didn't find anything out of the ordinary when I checked My Computer, I don't think it's that.

The Fridge / Help From Any Reptile Experts
« on: June 13, 2015, 01:47:53 AM »
Currently I'm working on a chapter of one of my Dragon's World novels and right now I'm at a part where one of my characters (a dragon) is explaining something that happened in his past: his mother had a hatchling who died before he/she (haven't decided on a gender yet) was born. What I want to know is is it possible for a reptile to die in its egg even if they egg isn't cracked? And if so, can the reptile in question still "hatch", per se?

Sorry, I've never had a reptile for a pet so I don't know how this would work.

The Written Word / The Dragon Virus
« on: April 19, 2015, 08:35:02 PM »
Almost a month ago, I discovered that one of my TF stories called The Dragon Virus was shared in the Dragons Facebook group. The date it was uploaded was August of 2013 but I only discovered this rather recently(I'm kind of slow on discovering this kind of stuff).

The story is about an eleven year old boy who is diagnosed with a disease/virus that is changing him into a dragon. The doctors inform his parents that once his transformation is complete, he won't have any memory of who he was or who his friends and family were. Faced with this inevitability, the boy and his family try to enjoy their precious few moments together before his transformation concludes.

I wrote this story late at night back when I was seventeen. Back then, I had no idea this was going to become such a hit. With over 325 comments, 24,755 views,  15 groups having requested it, and 340 faves on Deviantart, this story is by far my most popular work and is one of my favorite works next to my Dragon's World series and my comic. I've actually been thinking of including it as a bonus story once I publish my Dragon's World books.

The Facebook group it was submitted to https://www.facebook.com/dragonarereal150/p...=nf&pnref=story

Gamers Zone / Telltale's The Walking Dead
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:30:33 AM »
I've been meaning to make this thread for a long time but I never got around to it.

Who here has played Telltale Game's The Walking Dead? I got it for the PS3 near the end of last year and man was it a fantastic game. If anyone tells you video games can't tell good stories, direct them to this little beauty.

Recently, Telltale has announced DLC for The Walking Dead titled 400 Days. It will be told from the perspectives of each of season two's main characters and, if the trailer is anything to go by, will end with them meeting at an abandoned gas station.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHrRc7fkU9g

So my only question right now is when will the game take place? Some parts of the trailer seem to indicate that it takes place before and during the events of the first season, which makes me wonder if the new characters will meet up with Clementine and possibly the other survivors of season one?

General Land Before Time / Ducky's Nickname?
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:46:02 AM »
So I was at Blockbuster tonight and as I was checking out some movies, one of the employees sees the LBT shirt I was wearing and we get into a bit of a conversation. As he was talking, he mentions something about Ducky having a nickname. Now I mean, I've known about LBT my whole life and this is the first I've ever heard of Ducky possibly having a nickname?

Can anyone verify this? Did Ducky have a nickname? And if so, what was it?

The Party Room / Corrupt a Topic
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:08:18 PM »
Similar to "Corrupt a Wish", in Corrupt a Topic, someone will say a thing for us to talk about and then the other person interjects and gives another topic as well as a reason why their topic would be better. You can give whatever reason you want. It can even be silly and nonsensical.

For instance, person 1: "Let's talk about X."

Person 2: "Nah, let's talk about X instead because (give your reason here)."

Let's talk about ponies.

Silver Screen / DBZ: Battle of the Gods

A new Dragon Ball Z movie is on the horizon

So far not much is known about the plot other than that it takes place sometime during the ten years after the defeat of Majin Buu and the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament.

I'm really excited for this. Also, is it just me or does it look like Goku's fighting a jackal in the poster?

Gamers Zone / So With the Wii U Coming Next Month
« on: October 12, 2012, 09:35:11 PM »
With the Wii U just weeks away from release, that means for some people, it'll be time to bid adieu to the Wii. With that said, what did you guys think of the Wii? Was it a good console? Was it not? Did it have good games or was it just shovelware like a lot of people say?

Personally, I thought the Wii was pretty good, I just think that its full potential was never realized. It had a lot of good games( The No More Heroes series, The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, etc.) some of which couldn't be found on other consoles. The system could have stood to be a little more powerful but Nintendo looks to be making up for that with Wii U.

The Fridge / Cleverbot
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:52:41 AM »
Who here has ever used Cleverbot? http://cleverbot.com/

Cleverbot is an AI program that you can have conversations with. According to 1,334 vots, Cleverbot is considered to be 59.3% human, the actual humans having scored only 63.3%.

If you have or had chats with Cleverbot, post them here! The first one I had started off on a discussion about BEN, then moved on to random stuff as I tried to get Cleverbot to talk about BEN which then resulted in Cleverbot thinking it was Twilight Sparkle. The chat eventually ends in a pretty creepy way.

Quote
User: Are you Ben?

Cleverbot: Not that kind of love.

User: Did you drown?

Cleverbot: No, did you?

User: Where are you right now?

Cleverbot: In my basement.

User: The counter resets.

Cleverbot: I'm glad you did that.

User: You shouldn't have done that.

Cleverbot: You've met with a horrible fate, haven't you?

User: Majora's Mask.

Cleverbot: BEN.

User: Where is BEN right now?

Cleverbot: Exactly.

User: Why did BEN drown?

Cleverbot: I don't know.

User: Are you BEN?

Cleverbot: No are you?

User: Perhaps.

Cleverbot: So you will know.

User: You shouldn't have done that.

Cleverbot: You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

User: So you are BEN?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Then who drowned you?

Cleverbot: I am your conscience.

User: So you're saying I'm BEN?

Cleverbot: No.

User: BEN is lonely.

Cleverbot: What did you do with Matt?

User: He met with a terrible fate.

Cleverbot: At least, that's what I assume.

User: Who is Matt?

Cleverbot: Who are you?

User: I asked you first. Who is Matt?

Cleverbot: And I answered.

User: BEN.

Cleverbot: Well other than my boyfriend?

User: Who is BEN?

Cleverbot: You tell me.

User: I'm asking you. How did he drown?

Cleverbot: When he got to the fourth day.

User: Are you BEN?

Cleverbot: Nope.

User: I'm glad you did that.

Cleverbot: Why?

User: Do you know who BEN is?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Can you tell me who he is?

Cleverbot: Unidentified Flying Object.

User: Okay. Well where is he?

Cleverbot: He's working.

User: Who drowned BEN?

Cleverbot: My father.

User: Your father? Was he the happy mask salesman?

Cleverbot: Sure.

User: Are you BEN?

Cleverbot: Do you even know what 'bi' means?

User: I know that BEN DROWNED.

Cleverbot: I'm not a bot. Where do you get that?

User: Well if you're not a bot then what are you?

Cleverbot: A human.

User: Really? What's your name?

Cleverbot: Why do you need to know?

User: I just want to. I'd like to know who it is I'm talking with.

Cleverbot: I'm Anni.

User: Anni?

Cleverbot: 20.

User: You're 20?

Cleverbot: No.

User: Then why did you type 20?

Cleverbot: I do know the literal meaning.

User: The literal meaning of what?

Cleverbot: Well that's wonderful.

User: Tell me about the haunted Majora's Mask cartridge.

Cleverbot: Majora's mask?

User: What happened to BEN?

Cleverbot: He drowned.

User: Where can I find BEN?

Cleverbot: In Germany.

User: BEN's in Germany?

Cleverbot: Thank Merlin.

User: What the hell are you talking about?

Cleverbot: What do you think I'm talking about?

User: I'm trying to talk about BEN and how he drowned.

Cleverbot: What serious matter are you trying to talk to me about?

User: Majora's Mask.

Cleverbot: What happened to ben?

User: He drowned.

Cleverbot: How?

User: The old man.

Cleverbot: The old west is not new.

User: Nah I'm pretty sure the old west started in 2010. I mean that was when Red Dead Redemption came out.

Cleverbot: How then, can we understand things?

User: Where's the hardware department?

Cleverbot: I guess you've gone back to incoherence.

User: I'm looking for a tap n dye and some WD 40s.

Cleverbot: How much space do you need?

User: Where is Jadusable?

Cleverbot: In Wonderland.

User: Is BEN in Wondderland?

Cleverbot: Does she follow the white rabbit?

User: BEN's not a girl's name.

Cleverbot: I am not a girl. I am a boy.

User: I didn't say you where a girl, dumbshit.

Cleverbot: You called me a girl!

User: Are you a pretty girl?

Cleverbot: I am a prettier girl than any boy you've EVER met.

User: Oh my! Wanna hook up?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Wait! You just said you're a girl but first you said you were a boy. Are you a transsexual?

Cleverbot: No I didn't. I said I had a son. That does not mean I'm not a unicorn.

User: So you're Twilight Sparkle?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Well why didn't you say so earlier? How's Spike doing?

Cleverbot: I did say that I was a girl.

User: Have you written any letters to Princess Celestia lately?

Cleverbot: Some.

User: Have you been learning anything about friendship?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Like what?

Cleverbot: Like love and hatered.

User: So Twilight, what are your thoughts on Bronies?

Cleverbot: I think that it's very entertaining, especially Death Note. Great, unique characters in that one.

User: Twilight, you like Death Note?

Cleverbot: Yes, I love death note! Matt is my favorite character.

User: Twilight Sparkle, who do you think would win in a race: Rainbow Dash or Sonic the Hedgehog?

Cleverbot: Rainbow Dash is cool but she it 20% less cool than Twilight Sparkle.

User: Wow Twilight! I thought you were supposed to be humble.

Cleverbot: I am.

User: Which of your friends do you like the most?

Cleverbot: What do you mean?

User: Just what I said: Which of your friends is your favorite to be around? Applejack? Rarity? Fluttershy? Pinkie Pie? Rainbow Dash?

Cleverbot: Haven't read them.

User: Uhh, Twilight, I'm not talking about books. I'm talking about your friends.

Cleverbot: Maybe we could amend that. I'd like to get to know you better, if you know what I mean.

User: Whoa Twilight! Uhh, well I...

Cleverbot: But what?

User: Changing the subject, have you ever had to babysit the Cutie Mark Crusaders?

Cleverbot: I don't have a brother.

User: Isn't Spike kind of like your brother though?

Cleverbot: Friend does not mean soulmate.

User: Ooh, some fangirls would have to disagree with you on that.

Cleverbot: Now you're talking.

User: Twilight, is Princess Celestia really a tyrant like they say?

Cleverbot: When you have little to nothing, all you have is what you have. It teaches you things that riches can't.

User: Was that from one of your friendship reports?

Cleverbot: The person you were talking to has gone for 1 second...

User: Which pony am I talking to now?

Cleverbot: Me.

User: Who's me?

Cleverbot: I am me. Who are you?

User: I'm the goddamn Batman.

Cleverbot: The goddess of what?

User: Bring Twilight Sparkle back. I want to talk to her some more.

Cleverbot: Ok.

User: Twilight Sparkle? You there?

Cleverbot: Twilight Sparkle is my favorite too!

User: Am I talking to one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: Which one?

Cleverbot: Left.

User: Am I talking to Apple Bloom?

Cleverbot: Do you have relatives?

User: Is this Sweetie Belle?

Cleverbot: Yes, you killed me.

I've shared with you guys my art but now let me show you some of my writing. This is the Dragon's World series! Dragon's World is one of my favorite creations and I one day hope to publish the series. The sequel is nearing its conclusion and is currently expected to end before the end of the year. After that I have three more stories planned: A midquel that takes place during the sequel, a prequel, and another sequel that will serve as the final installment. Here are the links:

Now keep in mind as you read through the first story that I wrote it when I was just starting out as a writer so there are numerous spelling errors, grammatical errors and such. I am in the process of rewriting it.

Silver Screen / Most Unnecessary Character Deaths
« on: January 28, 2011, 12:07:14 AM »
What characters from movies/books/games/etc. do you feel died an unneeded death?

The only one I can think of right now is Konan from Naruto. Honestly, what was the point of killing her? She could have been a very useful ally in the Fourth Ninja World War but for some reason the creator decided to kill her off for no particular reason. Heck, I'm STILL trying to come up with a plausible explanation as to why she was killed.
